so here's the chapter introducing Fernpaw. This chapter is all about introductions. Enjoy and review :)
The golden she cat poked her head out from the hollow used for the apprentice den, her icy blue eyes surveying the clearing with excitement flickering in the pretty she cats eyes.
"Fernpaw." A loud complaining mew came from behind her.
Fernpaw laughed lightly, jumping out of the way and watching Tigerpaw poke his head through. He flashed her an arrogant smile. Tigerpaw was an arrogant little tom who barely became an apprentice less than a moon ago. Fernpaw often had to bring Tigerpaw down to earth but she couldn't help but be friends with the little furball. As a matter of fact, she was friends with each and every one of the apprentices and kits in Snowclan. Because of her, Snowclans apprentices and kits were more united than ever. Fernpaw was a fun and outgoing she cat that was extremely loyal to her clan. She was originally from Whisperclan but had never really fit in so she ran away to Snowclan the day she was apprenticed. She had quickly shown her new clan how loyal she was to the clan that had taken her in. Fernpaw loved Snowclan and was no longer the shy, quiet she cat she had been in Whisperclan. The entire clan loved her. She was one of the leaders favorite apprentices and her mentor was Nocturnalfur, Snowclans deputy. Fernpaw secretly missed her siblings in Whisperclan but made a vow to never look back. Leapordpaw padded up to Fernpaw with a friendly mew, her eyes sparkling in mischief as usual. Fernpaw had gotten the troublemaking she cat out of many sticky situations. A white tom, leaped on top of the she cat.
"Get off Eaglepaw!" Leapordpaw complained.
Eaglepaw and Leapordoaw were siblings and often were found arguing. Eaglepaw was often up to mischief as well. A movement near the entrance of the cave caught Fernpaws eye. She sighed in irritation and bounded over to meet her friend .
"Windpaw." Fernpaw spoke sharply.
"Yes?" The handsome brown tom questioned, his ears pushed back against his head in a guilty manner, confirming Fernpaws suspicions.
"It's a day before the calling..." Fernpaw began.
"Which is why I had to see her! I had to make sure she was safe." Windpaw mewed meekly.
Windpaw was the oldest apprentice and should be made a warrior any day now. Since he became an apprentice, he had been sneaking off to see a she cat from Petalclan. Fernpaw didn't know who the she cat with but Windpaw had confided in her one day when she had caught him sneaking into camp late once again. Fernpaw knew she couldn't stop him because Windpaw was in love with the she cat from a rival clan but she did think he was being disloyal to the clan. Although she was fiercely loyal to Snowclan, she was also loyal to her friends and would never rat him out.
"Just be more careful to cover up the scent." Fernpaw curled her lip in disgust, Windpaw reeked of the sickeningly sweet flower stench of Petalclan.
"You're my little sister. I'm supposed to lecture you." Windpaw teased.
It was true. Although they weren't blood related, Windpaw was like an older brother to Fernpaw. Windpaw had taken scared, shy little Fernpaw under his protective wing when she first came to the clan. He was extremely protective of her and would jump in to defend her in a heartbeat. Windpaw have her an affectionate lick on the ear and bounded away. Fernpaw watched Windpaw join Oakpaw on the other side of camp for some fresh kill. The strong built apprentice sniffed Windpaw suspiciously but went back to eating his vole decisively. Fernpaw sighed in relief that Oakpaw didn't have as sharp of a smell as she did. Oakpaw was a very serious apprentice who was a couple moons older than her. Oakpaw had often helped Fernpaw with her fighting skills. It was no secret that he wanted to be a leader one day. Oakpaw was padding after Fernpaw although she only saw him as a friend. Fernpaw was the only cat that had ever seen the serious young tom smile.
"Hey Fernpaw!" A white tom called, skidding to a halt in front of her with a large fish in his jaws, his blue eyes twinkled eagerly.
Skypaw was also head over heels for Fernpaw which was no surprise seeming as the young tom had a constant rivalry with Oakpaw. The limber little tom was the complete opposite of Oakpaw. He was a moon younger and scrawnier. Where Oakpaw was an excellent fighter but a poor hunter, Skypaw excelled in hunting and did poorly in fighting. Skypaw also hoped to be leader one day and because of this, he and Oakpaw had a never ending rivalry since they were kits. Skypaw and Oakpaw despised each other. Skypaws father just so happened to be the leader of Snowclan, Blizzardstar. Skypaw was a fun, energetic, charming tom. Again, Fernpaw didn't like him in that way either.
"That's a great catch Skypaw." Fernpaw mewed approvingly.
"Thanks. Wanna share?" Skypaw asked hopefully.
"Give me a few minutes okay? I'm going to the nursery to make sure the queens are fed then I'll catch up with you." Fernpaw promised.
Skypaw nodded, watching the she cat walk away. Fernpaw ran into Lightpaw on her way into the nursery. The normally kind, gentle she cat looked upset.
"What's wrong?" Fernpaw questioned her friend.
"I'm stuck cleaning the elders den while my mentor is out hunting." Lightpaw complained.
Fernpaw nuzzled the she cat sympathetically before entering the nursery. Duskkit and Loudkit both leaped on top of the she cat as she entered. Fernpaw gently swatted the two oldest kits in the nursery away.
"You two leave Fernpaw alone." Splashtail, Their mother scolded.
Fernpaw smiled kindly at her two younger friends, she felt bad for not having visited them in days because of her training. She then switched her attention to Larkkit, Cherrykit and Sunkit who were sleeping in the corner. They were the youngest kits in the clan and Fernpaw had grown very affectionate of them.
"Fernpaw I hate to ask this but they are so little ..you will look after them in the calling won't you?" Hollowstream, the sleeping kits mother asked anxiously.
"Of course it will. I'll make sure nothing happens to them." Fernpaw promised .
Hollowstream let a small purr of relief, she was still worried but knowing a skilled apprentice like Fernpaw would look after her babies eased her worries a little bit. Fernpaw was known to keep her promises. Fernpaw dipped her head and exited the den, joining Skypaw as promised. The white tom purred and settled in beside her to eat the great catch. They needed to keep their strength up for the big day tomorrow. Skypaw brushed against the she cat and she leaned against the tom comfortably, wondering what tomorrow would bring.
