To be honest, out of all the chapters I'm writing for this story, this chapter and the last chapter, Chapter 11, are my 2 favorite ones because this one involves an "aha!" moment, and the other one involves sweet romance. Plus, the title for this one is so cool! You'll find out why "The Missing Link" is the name of the title within this chapter, so be prepared!

Zelda's POV

When Zelda came to the Smash Mansion with Link, she wasn't expecting for anything to happen that could potentially ruin the obvious fact that her and Link were meant to be.

In all the story books she had read as a child, Zelda knew that the princess and the hero who saved her would always end up falling in love and living happily ever after. She wished it was the case with her and Link.

But instead, because she had insistently ignored the signs of a relationship that could have lasted just so she could be with the charming Marth, Zelda was now regretting her decision of even becoming friends with the Altean prince.

Link was her hero, the guy who was always there for her, and how did she repay him? By taunting his love for her in his own face, by showing him how much she didn't care about him. But the truth of the matter was far from the false lies she had tried to get him to believe.

Zelda was in love with Link.

She knew that ever since they first met they had always held a strong connection. From the moment she laid eyes on him, she knew deep down in her heart that he was the one.

It just took her over 17 years to realize it, and by then she was too late.

Or so she thought.

But what she didn't know was that Link was a patient and cool guy. He didn't get offended very easily, and he would wait for forever if it meant that he could be her boyfriend.

That following night, Zelda tossed and turned in her bed unable to fall into a steady slumber. She tried all of the old tactics like counting sheep to get herself to doze off, but none of them worked. Instead, she got absolutely no sleep at all.

When the next morning rolled around, Zelda reluctantly got out of bed and yawned. Streching her arms, she went to the mirror to get a good look at herself.

When she saw her reflection in the mirror, Zelda nearly screamed.

Her eyes were almost bloodshot red from the lack of sleep she had, it looked like she was possessed by a demon! Even though she looked terrible, Zelda didn't care. Today, she was determined to let Link know how she truly felt about him.

But first, she had to practice her confession. It wasn't going to be easy, but Zelda knew that she could do it. She had the triforce of wisdom for crying out loud, nothing was going to stand in her way as long as she stuck with her plan.

"Alright. So um I know that this is kind of sudden, especially since all of that crazy stuff happened not too long ago, but I have a confession to make. I'm in love with you Link. I don't know how long I've loved you, and I don't know how I fell in love with you, but I can't get you off my mind and..."

No, that was too clingy. Link would probably run away if she got that carried away.

"Link, the fact of the matter is that you and I were meant to be, so what do you say? Do you want to be..."

That one was too straightforward and demanding, Link would not be pleased if she tried to force him to agree with her. Besides, Zelda would never do that anyway, she wasn't that kind of person.

"Things are not going so well in this time and age. I beg of you to reconsider any judgement you have made about me for the past month. I admit that I have been completely out of character, but I can't deny the true feelings I hold inside for you, my beloved. Won't you..."

Augh! This was hopeless! No matter what she tried, Zelda just didn't seem to find the right words.

But no words could cover the amount of love she held for her closest friend. Link was her number one, the one and only person that she could always rely on, and now that she had experienced what life was like dating another man, she knew that he was the one.

And that's when it hit her.

Zelda thought back to all that Link had done for her; from standing up for her to always being there for her, he was the loyalest person she knew. And how had she thanked him for being loyal and kind? She had given him false hopes of something that never happened, tricked him into believing that she didn't love him, and taunted her love for Marth right in his face. She had also kept him away from anyone that she saw as a threat for a potential love interest to him.

She was a jerk.

A great big jerk that didn't deserve his sympathy.

But despite all that she had done to him, and all that she had put him through, Link still stuck by her side. And that was one quality of her hero that the princess wished would never go away.

All Zelda had ever wanted to be was a happy and successful young ruler. Of course she had always envisioned Link to be by her side, but she never imagined that any of this drama would happen.

Even when she was with Marth, Zelda felt that something was missing from her life. She knew that she wasn't 100% satisfied with herself, but she didn't understand why.

Until now.

Now she knew what the missing link was to her true happiness. It took her a while to see it, but now that she had realized the truth, Zelda wasn't going to let that opportunity slip through her fingers.

It was Link.

She was a complete idiot for not realizing who had always been there for her.

And she silently cursed herself for not realizing it sooner.

Just imagine all the drama she could of had avoided! She wouldn't have to break Marth's heart, get in the way of his relationship with Cadea, and she would save many tears that were shed over her by her hero himself.

And now, now that she had finally realized the truth, Zelda was ready to confess her true feelins about him. And she knew that nothing stood in her way, because no one who knew her dared to mess with her.

And so, Zelda spent most of the morning searching for Link everywhere she believed that he would be. But as she searched the last place possible, she knew that something was wrong. It was around noon and Zelda knew that Link never missed his daily lunch with his favorite fellow smashers.

But when she went to the cafeteria, he was no where to be found. All of the friends that he usually sat with were wondering where he was too.

"Sorry Zelda, I have no idea where he is. I've been looking for him myself, actually." Pit said. "Yeah, my brother is missing! I want my brother!" Toon Link wailed.

Zelda rolled her eyes, Toon Link could be so dramatic sometimes. "Wait... is Marth still in the hospital room?" Zelda asked. "Yeah, why?" Pit replied, looking confused.

Zelda smirked and crossed her arms. "I believe he's the answer to our problem. The last person I know Link visited was him, he must of said something to Link or done something to him! We've gotta hurry!" Zelda's eyes widened in realization. She spun around and sprinted to the hospital room, not wanting to waste another second in doubt.

Zelda swung the door to the hospital room open and stormed over to Marth's bedside.

"What did you say to Link?" she demanded, crossing her arms in anger.

"Zelda! I can explain." Marth chuckled nervously, rubbing the back of his head awkwardly.

Zelda narrowed her eyes as she leaned dangerously close to the Altean prince. She roughly grabbed him by the scruff of his collar and pulled him so close that their noses were almost touching. "Listen up you disgraceful brute, I don't know who you think you are, but you have absolutely no right to go and say anything derogatory to Link's face just because he supposedly "stole your girl away from you." If I were you, I would start spilling the beans buddy, because things are only going to get worse if you try to hide the truth from me. Now, tell me the truth."

"Alright fine, you want to know the real truth? I spoke these exact words to Link, and I don't regret saying anything." Marth sneered. "Link, I hate to admit this, but Zelda just isn't interested in you. She admitted to me the other day that while you were sweet, you don't even compare to me. She said that she would never even think about liking you more than a friend. You had your chance to win her over, but you lost, and so now it's my turn. I'd appreciate it if you stand out of my way and back off, Zelda is mine."

Zelda looked at Marth with absolute disgust and horror. "HOW COULD YOU?" she screamed at the top of her lungs, unable to hold back her anger any longer. Raising her hand, she slapped Marth square across the face harder than any time that she had slapped Link.

Zelda pulled him roughly closer to her before he had any time to react. "How could you say that? Link is an amazing hero that's always been there for through thick and thin. He's always been so kind, loyal, generous, understanding, and honest, and I wouldn't trade him for the world! Anytime I was ever down or depressed, he was the one to lend me a shoulder to cry on. Anytime I needed someone to hear me out, he was there to listen to my every word. And anytime I needed someone to boost my spirit after a rough day, he was always there to make me feel a thousand times better. This kind of love is so rare, but I know that it's true, and I know that I'm the luckiest woman in the world. I know other girls would die to have an amazing man like Link, and I am so grateful that he loves me for me. If it weren't for him, I wouldn't be the person I am today. And I was stupid to believe that you and I were a better match, it's all become very clear to me now though. Link and I were meant to be, and if it weren't for you, we would be in as great relationship right now! You'd be lucky if you even became half the man and hero that Link is!" Zelda angrily retorted as she roughly pushed him away before slamming the door and running outside to frantically search for her hero.

This story is going along so swell, I'm so glad that it's running smoothly. And I love the fact that Zelda has finally realized that Link was the one! So now you have the answer to the question: which one will she choose? But there's two more chapters left, so not everything has been resolved yet! The next chapter is going to be kind of depressing, so be prepared to get out the tissues if needed!

And I know that this chapter was kind of short, but the next chapter (and definitely the chapter after that) will be longer! But we're almost to the end, and Broken Promises is so close to being published! I found the plot again (so ignore the little thing I wrote in my profile) but be prepared for an awesome plot to unfold!

And for all of you LoZ:TL fans out there, I have exciting news! I have expanded the plot a bit more, and some of the earlier parts of the prophecy have whole new meanings to themselves! So earlier, when they thought they had the first part of the prophecy deciphered, some parts may not actually be what they're destined to be. But you'll know more about that soon enough.

Cya later for now~
