9. If you can't beat them. . .
A/n My version of the start of season nine.
Colonel Cameron Mitchell was walking through the halls of the SGC. He was in the company of General Landry, who was coming to see the base commander. It had been clear to Cam that Landry was well respected and known amongst the people of the mountain.
Walter had greeted them with a smile, "Are you well Sir?"
The General had smiled, "I am indeed Walter. As much as General Hammond would love to visit ... He is busy so I come in his place."
Cameron Mitchell didn't quite know what to expect of the SGC. He'd gone through a basic briefing but seeing was believing. He did not expect to see a gorgeous brunette having y several marines follow her like baby ducklings. Walter, his guide, smiled seeing his expression and explained. "That is one half of SG-Slayer. The marines would erect statues in their honour but don't want their husbands' wrath."
That statement caused Landry to chuckle. He could see the truth in such a statement. "They are quite the handful and are well matched couples."
Mitchell wondered who her husband was. The brunette proclaimed she would not start any sparing matches until she had see her niece.
As they entered the CO's office a second beautiful blonde nymph walked out. She was promising the General. "I promised only bruises ... no breaking the marines. It's not like I want to make my hubby mad."
Her attention was then drawn to the arriving delegation, "Hey Hank. Is he our newbie?"
Cam sucked in a breath at the informal and casual way she spoke to the general. His shock only increased when the General chuckled. "Yep, George and the President asked me to bring some gifts for you and some for your niece."
Buffy smirked, "Perfect. I can go and tease Xan and prove that I'm not the only one Henry sends gifts to."
The night where the teams had celebrated their Trust victory was memorable. All couples had celebrated the safe return of their loved one. In the case of Xander and Carter it had produced a child. A little girl named Jaqueline Anne Carter-Harris born nine months to the day after the rescue. Carter and Xander never worried about their child having protection. Jacqui had the last chosen two slayers; a low-level goddess; a master Jaffa, and an AF general.
When Sam mentioned it to her husband. Xander had given her a goofy smile and kiss, "Then it means we won't stress when we leave Jacqui with a baby sitter."
Faith had definitely taken to her little niece and was even feeling a little broody. Daniel's face when she had let him know that had been an interesting mixture of terrified and a smirk.
O'Neill had chuckled seeing Hank walk in, "George not wanting the headache of a visit?"
Landry smiled but chose not to answer. "I'm officially here for the Slayer's paperwork. Oh and to pass on a warning that Kinsey's making grumbles about their placement. It seems he is gaining morals and believes that you and your wife should not be working together."
O'Neill had a small smile, "That's okay. Tell George me and Buffy will be happy to attend the next shindig. I believe she has a few things she'd like to say to the backer of the NID."
Cameron assumed that Buffy was the blonde that had left the office before them. He'd hazard a guess that she was the General's wife from the one picture on his dead. He was curious why the Generals had matching smirks at the mere thought of them attending a party. Weren't the Washington parties boring?
Once they got through the formalities. Their attention turned to Cam, and O'Neill gave him the low down. "Well son you're going to be in charge of the new SG1 team and you can hand pick the team."
Cam was dejected as he wanted to be part of Sg1. He wouldn't give up as that was not in his nature. "What is the old SG1 doing sir?"
O'Neill thought about it and answered. He was curious what the Colonel would do with the information. "Well Carter is currently enjoying playing with do-hickeys in her lab while Willow baby-sits. Teal'c arrived back from Dakara so I imagine my wife is currently trying to convince him to spar with her. In fact let's make our way down there now."
Cam watched as the incredibly mismatched pair went at it hammer and tongs. O'Neill made his way over to Dr Jackson and the brunette that Cam had met earlier. That solved the question of who her husband was.
Jack loved to watch Buffy fight. It didn't hurt that he knew she couldn't get hurt; otherwise he'd have a fit. When Buffy fought, it was with everything she had. You could see how much she revelled in the joy of sparring with a skilled opponent. She didn't have to hold back against Teal'c and it showed. On top of this, Jack could laugh at the one-liners that she used. When it came to quipping no one could rile an opponent better then they could.
The fight was incredible and Cam was sure that he was missing an undertone. It just seemed a little too incredible the moves she pulled off. Buffy O'Neill fought with an incredible mix of grace, poise and gymnastics. He figured it was a shame they were a team of two, he would have the slayers on his team any day of the week.
Still maybe he could convince the other members of SG1 to return?
An airman's arrival broke his musings, "General O'Neill sir, our guest has arrived."
The smirk that crossed the Generals face meant nothing good to whomever had earned it.
"Danny, time to meet everyone's favourite thief."
Faith gave her husband an amused glance. She wanted to meet the woman who had the balls to steal an airship from the Air Force all on her lonesome. Jack had asked that Buffy and Faith come to greet the guest as well. If anyone had the potential to baffle the thief and look after themselves it was the slayers. So it was with that thought in mind that they all went to greet the newest visitor to the SGC.
