The Blood Of Olympus

Rating: K+

Summary: (don't read if you haven't read HOH yet)

After rescuing Percy and Annabeth from Tartarus, the seven demigods must set out to finish their quest; their only chance to beat Gaea. The Doors are closed, so at least that's one less thing to worry about. But ahead of them comes a bunch of new challenges.

Percy Jackson Quote: "The meeting was like a war council with donuts. Then again, back at Camp Half-Blood they used to have their most serious discussions around the Ping-Pong table in the rec room with crackers and Cheez Whiz, so Percy felt right at home."
― Rick Riordan, The Mark of Athena

Percy VIII

Percy's arm hurt.

After his arm had been hit, Hazel had given him ambrosia and wrapped his arm up to keep it from being jostled.

Even though that had been a day or two ago, it still hurt.

But at the moment, he was trying to ignore that facet. Because there was a demigod who had heard what he and Leo were talking about.

He had grabbed Riptide without thinking, grimacing while he held his sword in his currently broken arm.

Heading towards the shadow in the corner, Percy raised Riptide, despite the pain.

Hands held out in front of them, the demigod came out of the shadows. Blonde hair. Grey eyes.

"Percy."

Percy was startled. He expected the demigod to be one of the even, but he was wrong. The demigod staring at him had blonde hair and grey eyes that matched his sisters'.

"Malcolm." Lowering his sword, Percy continued. "What are you doing here? And what do you want? Not that I'm not... glad... to see you, but we're kind of an a dangerous quest and Annabeth wouldn't forgive me if I got you killed."

Malcolm smiled. "Don't worry about me. I've survived many battles. And as for how I got here... I'm not sure. I was at camp, by Thalia's tree. Everything went black, then I was here. I heard you and Leo, talking to Rachel, though."

"Yeah... about that..." Percy mumbled. "Can you please NOT tell Annabeth? I should be the one to tell her. And I will. I swore it- swore it on the River Styx.

Malcolm nodded. "Fine. I won't tell her or the rest of the seven. That's for you and Leo to tel when you're ready. Now, are you going to keep me out here, or can we go inside?" He finished as it began to rain.

"Hey guys... Look who I found outisde," Percy announced to the group as Malcolm walked in behind him.

"Mal?" Annabeth asked her second-in-command. "What are you doing here?"

Turning around to face his girlfriend's brother, Percy echoed her question. "I know you don't know how you got here, but do you have any idea why? Shouldn't you be at camp preparing for battle?"

"Yeah, I should be. But Chiron wanted me to go see if I could recruit new half-bloods. I was at Thalia's tree with five new half-bloods- I'll tell you who their parents are later- preparing them for the sight of camp. I felt a pulling sensation and just managed to tell them to go to the Big House before I disappeared. I ended up here on the Argo II. Not sure why though. And I'm not the first to disappear. Will, Connor, Katie, Drew, Jake, and Lacy have disappeared as well. At this rate, we may not stand a chance against Camp Jupiter."

Percy, who had been calm minutes ago, now began to panic. Some of his closest, if not the closest (1) friends are who-know-where? His eyes flashed dangerously. "Why do the gods and titan's keep messing with me, my friends, and my home? Why me?" His hand gripped Riptide so tightly that his knuckles turned white.

Everyone took a step back as a wave rose behind the Sea Prince.

Tentatively, Annabeth took a step forward. "Percy," she whispered. "Look at me."

His sea green eyes met her grey eyes.

The wave began to sink. His eyes softened and he took a deep breath.

He capped Riptide and put his sword back in his pocket. He blinked, and the other demigods saw someone completely different. Not the proud, strong, brave hero that they all knew and loved. Not the calm, collected teengage boy they all knew and loved. Not the easy going, fun loving, prank pulling counselor. Not one of the leaders of both demigod camps.

He looked broken. It was like they could see into his soul. They could see the loss and pain and betrayal he had ever felt in his life. (2)

His eyes grew wet and he held his arms out towards Annabeth, looking like a little boy in need of his mother again.

Annabeth wrapped her arms around her boyfriend, pulling him close, just holding him.

The other demigods looked down sadly at their broken hero. Percy and Annabeth were, and always would be, the bravest people they knew.

The two broken demigods had always been there for them, even while apart, and now it was their turn to be there for them.

A few minutes later, Percy pulled away slightly. "Thanks for being here."

Annabeth smiled softly. "I'll always be here for you."

"I know. I just- I just hate that my emotions go out of control sometimes. I hate the way people look at me when it happens. I can't take their pity."

"I know," Annabeth spoke quietly. "I know."

Percy and Annabeth emerged from the rec room, hands clasped tightly together.

The other demigods looked up.

The girls' eyes looked worried, while they guys tried to look like nothing hand happened- failing.

The rest of the day, no one spoke about Percy's meltdown.

Days passes and no one looked at Percy with pity. Percy had a feeling Annabeth had said something.

He was glad.

He knew the girls would be worried. They all would. But he knew they guys would truly understand.

Leo and Frank had gone through the same thing with their mothers' deaths. Jason wen through it when he was at Camp Half-Blood and had no idea who he was.

They didn't appreciate the pity.

And they knew Percy wouldn't either.
