Sabella McCann
I feel so embarrassed for both John Cena and Jessa Bolt.
Even to the worst of my exes, I wouldn't dare say the kind of shit Callie said about John. By all accounts, she played John like a sucker. He treated her like a princess. I can't imagine that Jessa appreciates hearing Callie announce to the world that she has never known the touch of a man and never will. Callie hit below the belt on every single level. I'd never say that kind of shit to friends in jest, let alone to enemies. If Callie felt an ounce of shame or even grasped the concept of it, she would be ashamed of herself for the way she's acted. But she's not. Callie is the type who thinks she's owed the world.
It's no secret back here that Jessa is one of my best friends. Standing around ringside with the camera tonight, I can hear the whispers. People are worried about my safety. I heard that Dawn Marie attacked Adriana backstage tonight. There's worry that Natalie and I could be next. Adriana assures me she's okay, but the side of her face is pretty swollen. Rene is staying with her, thank God. It cuts down on my worry a little bit to know that she's not alone tonight.
In the ring, Dawn Marie is mashing Sable's face into the canvas. It's the Divas Championship Tournament, and the fight has been brutal, with Dawn Marie dominating Sable at every turn. Before the match started, we found out that Callie has already rigged it so she is in the finals. Now, whoever wins this tournament is earning a chance to face Callie for the Divas title. I'm pretty sure Callie blew Vince to get an opportunity like that, but I can't prove it.
Dawn Marie won the match with a neck breaker. With her music blaring in the loud speakers, she slid out of the ring. I felt the camera yanked from my hand and thrown to the floor. I winced when I heard it hit the padding; the cameras are expensive. Dawn grabbed me by the shoulders and turned me, slapping the hat off my head. Her other hand caught me in the cheek. I was shocked momentarily, but I pushed her. She fell to her ass and the crowd went up. Dawn came at me again, grabbing me by the hair and slamming my head into the apron. The other camera guys parted like the Red Sea.
The crowd went up again. All I saw was a flash of blonde before Dawn was on the ground. Torrie smashed her head into the floor over and over and over again. I felt a little bit of blood from underneath one of the scratches. I picked up my hat and put it back on, careful to put my hair back underneath it. Then I picked up my camera. Thankfully it wasn't damaged. I readjusted the camera on my shoulder and turned back to the ring.
Torrie approached when Dawn escaped through the crowd. "Jessa sent me out. Are you okay?" she asked. I nodded.
\ "Yeah, Torrie. I'm okay. Thank you. I really appreciate you saving my ass."
"How bad are you hurt?" she asked.
"I'm a little banged up, but I'm okay. I can keep going," I assured her. Torrie nodded.
"Jessa's already got security on Natalie. She had a feeling this was going to happen." I nodded. Torrie disappeared. The sound of missiles landing and colliding hit the speakers and the Dudley Boys came out.
During the commercial break, someone came out and told me that Kurt wanted to see me in the back. Knowing better than to argue with my boss, I went backstage, making a beeline to his office. I was surprised to learn that he hasn't had his meeting with Jessa yet. Nobody knows where she is.
Kurt's not a bad-looking guy. He's not my type, though. The guy really has it hard for Jessa. When she first got here, he took her under his wing, showing her the ropes and teaching her how to adapt to the WWE style. Jessa doesn't see him as anything more than a friend, and I know it irritates the hell out of him. She's put him in the Friend Zone, and there's no way he's coming out of it.
"Hi, Kurt. You wanted to see me?" I asked, peeking my head through the door.
"Yeah. I saw what happened out there. Are you okay?"
"I'm fine. A little scratched up, but I'll live." He nodded.
"Well, in light of what's been going on tonight, I'm giving you, Natalie and Adriana the night off. I want you guys to get out of here as soon as you possibly can. It's not safe for you guys here tonight," he told me. I nodded; I wasn't about to argue with a night off. "I'm seeing what I can do to get some ground rules in place with Evolution, but until then, you guys got to get out of here."
"All right. Thank you, Mr. Angle."
"Please. Mr. Angle was my father. It's Kurt."
"Thank you, Kurt." I flashed him a smile.
"Any friend of Jessa's is a friend of mine." I nodded and shut the door behind me. My game plan now was to round up the girls and get out before Callie and Evolution got their hands on anyone else.
I spotted Natalie down the hallway. Callie was standing in front of her. Dave Batista was behind her. Natalie looked a little panicked, despite the security guards acting as a makeshift barrier between them. I rushed over, coming to a stop behind Natalie and grabbing her arm. She cocked her head back. "Kurt gave the three of us the night off. We're getting the hell out of here," I whispered. Natalie nodded. We began to move away, but Callie started shouting at Natalie.
"You're so pathetic, you know that, Natalie? Do you really think he wants you? Do you think he's just going to sweep you off your feet and make your dreams come true?" She laughed. "I had him first, Natalie, don't you ever forget that. And no matter what he does moving forward, he's always going to be thinking of this. And he'll never get it back. He'll never get anyone anywhere as good as me because anyone with an ounce of self-respect will realize he's not worth anyone's time."
"He is worth someone's time," Natalie shot back. "As for you...you're worthless."
My eyes widened at Natalie's outburst. Callie tried to lunge, but Dave and security grabbed her. I grabbed Natalie by the arm and yanked her, the two of us making a beeline down the hallway towards the seamstress area. "Look at you, growing a backbone all of a sudden," I teased. Natalie didn't respond, but she blushed.
We found Adriana sitting with Rene at her station. She looked up as we came to a stop in front of her. "Come on, Adriana – Kurt just gave us the night off and we're getting the hell out of here."
"Are you kidding?"
"No. We're leaving." I turned to Rene. "Thanks for keeping an eye out on Ade."
"It was no problem," he replied.
"Are you going to stand up to Evolution?" Natalie asked. Rene nodded.
"I do not see eye-to-eye with John Cena on many things, but this is not one of them. We can't let Evolution take over this brand. They can't do what they want." I nodded in agreement. We all got up. He accompanied us to the parking lot. Rene turned to Natalie. "Mademoiselle Landry, I am tasking you with taking care of these two tonight." Natalie nodded.
"I planned on it."
We came to a stop at my rental car, a red Honda Civic. I handed Natalie the keys and she got into the driver's side. I watched Rene put his hands on Adriana's shoulders. He looked so worried about her. I cocked an eyebrow. He spoke hushed; I couldn't hear what he said, but Adriana nodded. Then he surprised me by giving her a hug. He watched as we got into the car. In the rear-view mirror, I could see him watching us until we disappeared.
"What was that?" I asked.
"Don't start, Sabella."
"I'm not starting anything. Are you and Rene a thing or something?"
"No. He's just been looking out for me tonight."
"Sure..." My tone was teasing. Like me, the other girls looked exhausted. I know Adriana's in a bad mood; the lump under her eye is starting to bruise. I can already see hints of purple and blue starting to form.
"Sabella, stop." I rested my head against the window. The three of us were silent on the ride back to the hotel.
