Chapter 9:
Kyoshi Island
It was finally dinner when she saw Zuko again. He'd been fuming in his room, thinking up strategies that could help them find the Avatar. Iroh and Misa were waiting patiently for their food while Zuko was basically bouncing on his knees trying to get out and continue his plans. "I think we're having fish for dinner," the silence was tense, thanks to the prince, and Iroh's attempt to break it was for nothing. Misa merely nodded while Zuko hardly acknowledged the fact they were there.
A servant came into the room carrying two plates placing them in front of Iroh and Misa; leaving Zuko with nothing. This did not help his mood. He grumbled under his breath. Misa decided to wait for the servant to bring Zuko's food but Iroh clearly thought differently, he began to eat animatedly, enjoying each bite of the flavorous fish and rice. "Misa, dear, please eat. Don't wait on my nephew." She smiled and was about to reply with a polite, 'don't worry about me Uncle,' when the same servant came in placing a steaming hot fish in front of Zuko.
He looked nervous, looking from side to side. Hands fumbling as he placed the plate in front of the Fire Nation prince. Misa's eyebrow went up in confusion. These people had serve them for almost 3 years, why were they nervous? He was about to leave but he turned and opened his mouth wanting to speak. He quickly bent down and whispered into Zuko's ear. His eyes widened and he shot up yelling, "The Avatar is on Kyoshi's Island!"
Leaving his food untouched he starts to walk out of the room while speaking quickly, "Uncle! Ready the rhinos! He's not getting away from me this time." Misa sat in shock, excited with the discoverment of the Avatar's she began to stuff all the food in her mouth. She faintly heard Iroh speak but didn't pay much attention until Zuko stomped in to grab his fish. Struggling to hide a giggle from the back of her throat she ran out of the room to get ready for what she knew was going to be a battle.
Finally ready for battle she went down to the prow, waiting for Zuko with the rest of the soldiers. "Everyone on the rhinos!" Misa jumped on one quickly as she heard Zuko's yell. She felt a pressure behind her. She turned and saw Zuko there. "We're going to have to share." Misa gave a slight nod and grabbed the reins.
The prow opened revealing the island before them, they descended and Misa was ready for whatever was to come. "I want the Avatar alive," Zuko said as they went towards the small town. She lead the way for the rest of the soldiers. "Ready?" she breathed, only loud enough for the both of them. She felt his breathing which seemed to pound out of his chest with excitement. "Of course, why wouldn't I be?" She smiled slightly and said, "Me too Zuki, me too."
They arrived at the entrance of the deserted town. "Come out, Avatar!" Zuko yelled, Misa's eyes went everywhere looking for the little boy, "You can't hide from me forever!" Zuko's eyes also trailing around the village, "Find him." He said in a deadpanned voice toward his soldiers.
The rest of the fleet continue on searching for the Avatar, leaving Zuko and Misa behind watching them. A flash of green went past Misa's eyes causing her to lean against Zuko. Out of nowhere female warriors dressed in heavy green armor attacked the fire nation soldiers. One of them came towards them, using her fan to hit one of them. Misa blocked her strike while Zuko quickly grabbed hold of the reins and let the animal's tail hit the green armored girl.
The girl flew backwards and Zuko took the opportunity to blast fire towards her, sadly this did not work as planned. A manly looking girl came out to block Zuko's blast. Misa tried to strike again not before she heard a grunt behind her. She turned to find out Zuko had been thrown off the rhino by yet another green-armored girl. 'Where in all Agni are these girls coming from!' Misa thought to herself as yet another girl came running towards her.
Misa rolled her eyes and jumped of the rhino preparing herself for a fight which she hoped, and knew, would take less than a minute for her to defeat. She kicked fire towards the girl which she surprisingly dodged. The green-armored girl came at her with a little huff flinging her fans at the firebender. She quickly grabbed one spinning the girl's arm around and managing to push her with ease. The girl fell with a small whimper making Misa smirk just a little bit.
She turned her head in look for the prince finding her at the porch of a house currently surrounding by more armored girls looking ready to pounce. Before Misa had time to head over and help the fallen prince he gave a roar and spun on his hands releasing fire from his feet knocking all of the warriors down. He quickly ran to the middle of the deserted street next to Misa.
"Nice try Avatar! But these little girls can't save you." He said looking around for the boy they were desperate to find. After a second of silence, Misa was about to say something before she was interrupted by the voice a young boy, "Hey! Over here!" They both turned to find the Avatar standing there holding what appeared to be a staff, the exact same staff that he had used to defeat them at the South Pole. Misa's eyes widen as she grinned, finally ready for a real fight.
Apparently Zuko was thinking the same thing as he yelled "finally" and began to shoot fire towards the airbender. Misa followed in suit throwing in a couple of her own kicks of fire only to have the boy dodge them with his staff. He suddenly propelled himself in the air landing in front of the two firebenders. Misa kicked a fireball towards the Avatar's feet making him lose balance as Zuko used this to blast the staff out of his hands. They both looked at each other for less than a second, giving each other a clear look that wanted to mean 'good teamwork.'
This didn't stop the airbender as he picked up a couple of fans that were left behind by the warrior girls. Zuko ran towards the Avatar with a yell, his fist out ready for the hit; the Avatar gave his own yell before shooting a gust of air that knocked Zuko through the wall of a house. Misa made a noise that came weirdly out as a growl. "I guess it's just you and me, little boy." She smiled at him, he didn't bother to return it. She spun letting out two gulfs of fire towards him, his eyes widen, seemingly having forgotten about the firebender girl and used the fans to divert them. He clearly didn't know any other elements and Misa was gonna use that to her advantage.
She somersaulted towards him as fast as she could and apparently she did them faster than he expected as he let out a little yell and used the fans to try to send air blasts toward her. She grabbed a hold of one of the fans and engulfed it in flames. Throwing it to the side she tried to throw a fireblast towards the boy. The boy went under her arm and pulled it to the side, Misa stumbled slightly and as she was about to kick fire at the Avatar she felt herself being pushed by a strong force.
The airbender had used the other fan to push her back similarly as he had done to Zuko. She fell back, she tried to stand but she was clearly having a hard time to. She groaned and let her head fall, wanting to give herself a pat on the back for A+ effort. She could hear ruffling and a gush a wind as she looked up to see the Avatar flying around on his staff to another part of the town.
She groaned again and went on her side. She saw Zuko clambering out of the wood holding his head with his hand clearly feeling worse than Misa. He was scowling and muttering under his breath, if it were that he didn't trip on Misa he would have walked right passed the fallen girl. His eyes widen quickly falling into a fighting stance, letting it only fall after he squinted his eyes and made sure that the girl on the floor was none other than Misa. Not that it was hard to tell, since she was wearing red and maroon clothing.
"Stop staring Zuki and help me up," she said letting her hand extend to him. He helped her up without a word, still fuming that he yet again failed to capture the airbender. He just continued to walk not waiting for her to follow. She rolled her eyes and walked towards the main part of the town with the very angry firebender, knowing that if she dared to comment he would explode and look himself in his room like the pouty and temperamental teenager he was. Though he'd never admit to it.
As soon as they reached where the rest of the soldiers were still fighting the green-armored girls a beastly grunt was heard above. Everyone lifted their heads to see the bison flying above them carrying the Avatar and his friends. "Back to the ship! Don't lose sight of them!" Zuko yelled running back to where they came from. 'Oh so he still has a voice,' Misa thought to herself rolling her eyes running behind the prince towards the only rhino they had left.
Everyone managed to sit on it, Misa in front as she was the only lady and Zuko behind her to separate her from the rest of the soldiers. They began to head towards the ship; once they were only seconds away from getting into the ship something cold engulfed them. Misa gasped as cold water soaked her, her wet hair covering her eyes. She could feel Zuko stiff behind her, his hands, that were on her hips, dug into her skin clearly annoyed at their current predicament.
Misa couldn't help but chuckle as they all climbed onto the ship shivering and wet. Uncle Iroh stood there waiting with a confused look on his face to see them like they were. "What happened Prince Zuko?" He asked innocently only to receive a groan from the firebender and have him stomp all the way to his room. Iroh turned to Misa with an even more confused look, she shrugged and gave him a small smile before going to her own room.
