A.N - Hey guys! Yes I realize I'm a terrible person for saying ASAP on my last chapter and then taking this long to update. Please forgive me. Life has just been so insane lately. The main reason I said ASAP on the last one was because I thought I was on a roll with my writing but then my school decided it hated me so I had to go and put some people back in their place (Don't worry I'm paying for their medical bills because I'm just that nice). Speaking about school, I'm almost officially finished it! Yay! I graduate in July and I have no idea what I'm doing with my life *groan*. Apparently I'm an adult now! hahahaha...No. Also Age of Ultron was amazing! I left the cinema and my friends had to drag me away before I screamed about Pietro and ruined the film for everyone who was queuing to watch it. LOL. I also noted that people have followed me which is great because I do plan on writing more stories after this one is finished (One maybe two more chapters to go)but I will make sure I complete writing them before I start publishing next time :)
Enjoy :)
It hadn't taken Bruce long to venture down into the damp dark sewer after receiving Steve's order to come down with something to deal with a laceration. The longest part had been trying to get make-shift medical equipment at the shop down the street from the man hole.
He could have gone in search for a real first aid kit but that would have taken time and Bruce didn't know if they had that. The shop didn't have much but Bruce ended up getting 5 packets of napkins, a small bottle of vodka and some tape. The shop really didn't have much.
Bruce knew he'd have to get Peter fixed properly once they were out of that sewer. They would have come up already but Steve didn't want to force Peter to exert himself. Bruce was surprised to hear the protective tone in Steve's voice but he knew he really shouldn't have been.
He trudged through the murky water as he slowly made his way to the web. He would stumble occasionally due to the darkness but he somehow managed to keep his balance.
When he reached the web he was met with a slightly bazaar sight. From the look of things Clint had managed to shot a zip line arrow into the ceiling of the area and Natasha was currently up the rope using it as a make shift harness while she cut some of the web that encased Iron Man. Tony himself was about half in his suit and half out, having taken off anything he could in an attempt to get free quicker. "Nice of you to make it, Bruce" Tony called out, being the first to notices his presences.
"Shut up, Stark" Natasha punctuated her point by giving him a slap to the back of the head.
As Tony whined, Bruce carefully made his way to the other three people present. Both Clint and Steve sat/knelt in the middle of the web with Peter between them. Steve had his hands hovering around Peter's back, scared that the kid would pass out and fall backwards. Peter however didn't seem to need it. He was keeping his balance perfectly fine. The only thing bothering him was the pain (duh!) and Captain America's constant worried glances. Personally Clint was finding it hilarious that Steve was fretting more than Peter.
"How are you holding up?" Bruce asked directing the question at Peter; coming to kneel in front of them.
"I'm fine" Peter replied almost out of habit.
Clint snorted "Yeah right!"
"No, seriously, it's not even that bad!" Peter defended leaning backwards to look at his injury.
"Yeah, well, we're not taking any chances" Steve said making Peter lean forward again.
"Is there any way you could…em let me have a look?" Bruce asked Peter, not exactly sure how he'd go about doing that with such little room to move.
Peter sighed slightly, knowing he might as well get the medical stuff over with, and nodded. Peter slowly lay down on the web, much like he had when he had first created it. Bruce moved over Peter to get to his injured side somewhat ungracefully. He couldn't imagine the amount of balance Peter must have had to move comfortable around this place.
Bruce passed the shopping bag of D.I.Y medical equipment to Clint before touching Peter's back to get him to lie more on his side then on his back. Peter took the hint and moved onto his side to face Cap. Bruce lifted Peter's t-shirt up and adjusted his glasses before examining the wound. "It looks like the bleeding is beginning to stop…" Bruce thought out loud while stretching the wound slightly with his thumbs.
Peter winced at the small stab of pain but didn't protest. Bruce reached into the shopping bag in Clint's arms and pulled out a packet of napkins and the bottle of vodka. "Open these" Bruce mumbled as he passed Clint the napkins.
Bruce pour a small amount of vodka onto his hands as he spoke "All I can do down here is clean and cover it but when we get out of here you are going to need a couple of stitches". Bruce explained sympathetically as he rubbed the alcohol around his hands.
Peter had been expecting as much, he had a strange feeling this was going to be more painful than if he had gotten Gwen to do it, it was probably the smell of alcohol making him think that.
Bruce grabbed a couple of napkins that Clint had opened and poured some vodka onto them before starting to wipe Peter wound. Peter hissed as the napkins touched his cut.
"Sorry…" Bruce's sheepish voice apologized from behind him before the scientist frowned. "Was there a wound here before?" Bruce asked eyeing the snapped stitches that stuck out of his skin.
"Yeah…" Peter said trying not to let any pain enter his voice but failing miserably. "Muggers seem to think I have a bullseye on my hip" He tried to joked but it was more pitifully than humorous.
"Who stitched it up last time?" Clint asked also looking at the now useless stitches. They were neater than some stitch ups he'd had done on him.
"Gwen" Peter hissed as Bruce continued to clean the wound.
"Really? She deals with your injuries?" Steve questioned, surprised that she would have the stomach to deal with her boyfriend's wounds.
"She gives me first aid…" The pain was becoming a bit more bearable but it still stung. "My healing factor does the rest".
"Healing Factor?" Tony piped up from his spot on the wall. "How many powers do you have, kid?"
Bruce finished cleaning the wound as Peter replied "That's...not important right now. How did guys even find me?" Peter was struggling to comprehend how they could have discovered him. Like he said before He'd been careful.
"Your connection to Captain Stacy and your father is what tipped us off but we didn't know for certain until you legged it" Clint said in between biting off bits of duct tape for Bruce.
"Great..." Peter huffed getting the over whelming erge to hit his head off a wall. He took it back! He was never going to listen to his spidey senses again! They had gotten him into this mess.
Bruce finished covering Peters wound about the same time Nat finally got a completely de-armored Tony down off the wall. "Now about these powers?" Tony said from his spot by the wall. He wasn't even going to attempt to tightrope walk towards the group. Natasha had already flipped her way over to Cap but Tony knew for a fact that he'd probably take one step and fall straight into the water.
"What about them?" Peter asked, moving back into a less vulnerable sitting position.
"Well last time I checked nerdy high school kids don't just acquire powers out of nowhere." Tony said somehow keeping his carefree tone while leaning heavily on the wall and eyeing the water warily.
Peter looked down into his lap not to sure if he was comfortable enough to tell them about everything. They were the Avengers but this wasn't only incredibly personal but also, due to his involvement with Dr Connors, somewhat incriminating.
"You don't have to tell us anything if you don't want to" Steve supplied, seeing Peter's hesitation.
Peter shook his head, resigning himself to the fact that it was time he told someone other than Gwen about the insane mess that had become his life. "No, it's fine..." Pete paused to think about where to start. "I guess it all started with Oscorp..."
Peter then proceeded to explain about his father's spiders, sneaking into Oscorp and the spider chamber.
He decided to save the other parts of the story for later considering he really didn't want them to arrest him for helping the doc or pity him further when he told them about his uncle. Unfortunately Peter didn't count on the Avengers asking the right questions.
"So when you met Dr Connors he hadn't yet completed his research?" Steve asked as pieces of the mystery they had been trying to solve for two weeks started to fit into place.
Peter's palm started to sweat. "No, I don't think so..."
"Peter, when was this in relation to the Lizard incident?" Bruce asked catching on to what Steve was thinking.
"About a week or so..." He replied instinctively scratched his neck as his nerves increased.
"Just about the same time Connors notes stopped..." Clint pointed out, snapping his fingers as the realization hit him.
This got Peter's attention as his nerves were pushed to the back of his mind. Stopped? What? "That still doesn't explain why he-?" Natasha started to say but was cut off by Peter whose gaze flicked between them all as if searching for something. "Wait, what are you guys talking about?"
A.N - Wasn't quite sure about the medical stuff in this chapter so I just ended up writing what I'd first think of doing in this situation. Also apology for the little cliffhanger. I will update as soon as the next and most likely last chapter is ready. Until then I recommend almost every fanfic I have ever Favorited. Some of them are absolutely mind-blowing.
Bye :)
