A/N: Day 2 is Ruby Rose and Professor Ozpin. After this the duos start to get a little odd. Sorry this one is so short but I'm trying to juggle RWBY Relationship Week with some other stuff so more of the fics will probably be closer to this size than the last one. Again, sorry but I hope you enjoy!
RWBY and the characters are owned by Monty Oum and RoosterTeeth. Comments and criticism is welcomed and encouraged.
It was a beautiful summer evening, as Ruby found herself walking around Beacon by herself. The rest of the girls had made plans and that was fine with her; sometimes she just needed a bit of space to herself. That wasn't to say she didn't like having her friends around, it was just—
Her mental rambling was stopped when she spotted Professor Ozpin standing and watching the sunset behind the glowing green crystal which gave the academy its name. He was leaning heavily on his cane and sipping his coffee from his usual Beacon mug. Ruby had been wondering about something from a previous chat with the headmaster but she had never mustered the courage to ask. With no one else around, she figured this would be her chance.
"Good evening, Professor Ozpin!" she cheerily greeted him as she walked up next to him. He turned around, surprised at first but settling into a small smile.
"Ah, Ruby. What brings you out onto the terrace this evening?" His voice was, as always, soft yet firm.
"Well, you see," she began, as Ozpin swore he could hear the sound of a motor starting. "Yang said she had to go out and meet an old friend to talk to them about something – I think she said it was about someone she was looking for – while Weiss and Blake are going out on a date. Well, I mean, they said it wasn't a date but I saw Weiss looking up restaurants on her Scroll and Blake was talking about a fish place but Weiss wanted to go somewhere fancier and…" Ruby noticed Ozpin's quiet chuckling. "I'm rambling again. Sorry."
The silent laughter became audible after Ozpin took a sip of coffee. "That is not a problem. Although you seem to have come here with a question, yes?"
Ruby quietly began to push her fingers together as she considered dropping the line of questioning before it even began. But no, she decided, as she took a deep breath.
"Why did you mention my silver eyes when we first met?"
Ozpin blinked in surprise. The puppy dog gaze the student was giving him made him feel rather on the spot. But was she ready to hear the truth?
"Well, you see," the headmaster began, after ruminating over a mouthful of coffee. "Silver eyes are a sign in some old texts. They herald a prodigy of untold potential." The thin brown eyes watched the nervous reaction of the young girl. "However, there is a deeper, far more important meaning to me."
"…Yes?" asked Ruby, timidly.
"They are the same colour as my hair!" grinned the headmaster, laughing while Ruby merely watched him in confusion.
"Nuh uh, you have grey hair!"
"I'm afraid you are mistaken, young lady; I am not old, merely refined."
"Oh yeah?" Ruby crossed her arms and scrunched up her face as she watched the headmaster. "How old are you?"
"42."
"OLD!" squeaked Ruby, giggling herself now, as well.
Ozpin merely grinned as he finished off his mug of coffee. He was just glad he could put a smile on that face again. That face that reminded him of his biggest mistake all those years ago. That smile that had always warmed his heart. The soft pale skin that flushed whenever humour struck.
Those silver eyes that had burrowed deep into his soul.
