Chapter 8: Escaping and Lost Memories

Rin's POV

It has been two weeks since I've ran away from home. The day I left home I somehow fell in the same well and ended up in a different era. I still do not understand what that white light was. After l was chased by coyotes and almost attacked by them, I fell into the river. Then I almost came close to drowning. I'm still not sure how I survived that but I did. I remember waking up slightly and being told I was brought to a castle called the Western Steps. After several days of being unconscious I woke up again. On that same day I met the eyes of an all powerful demon. His name is Lord Sesshomaru. He informed me that I would be killed by him if I step outside those gates. I didn't care. The only thing I cared about the most was to find my necklace. I refused to have dinner with him and it pissed him off. I didn't care that I almost hit him to where he pinned me down to the ground. The only thing I didn't approve of was him throwing me to back into the room after he let me go.

In those two weeks I still refused to eat dinner with the demon Lord Sesshomaru. I only eat what they bring me for breakfast and lunch in my sleeping quarters. I refused to wear the kimonos the maids would pick out for me. I would only wear the clothes that I had in my bag. Everyone was still calling me Rin and it was still pissing me off. I also refused to answer to everyone. I really have to figure away out of here. As I sat here coming up with a plan to escape, I began to think about my parents. I know they must be really worried really about me. I do miss them. But I can never return home to them. If something does happen to where I get sent back home I'll refuse to marry Eito. I deserve to be with someone I love. I hope to find someone that deserves my heart. Someone who loves me for just being me.

Modern Time Tokyo

Tokyo Channel 4 News:

It has been a two weeks since 20 year old Hana Amari had disappeared from her home on June 17. The family has put up an reward of 5 million yen in the hopes someone has found the young female. If you have any info on her whereabouts please call your local police station immediately.

"It's been two weeks, how has anyone not seen her by now?" Itsuki asked.

"I don't know, but I hope she's safe Itsuki," Mika said. She began to break down again.

"Me to Mika me to," Itsuki said. He grabbed Mika and embraced her.

After embracing one another Itsuki went to his office to complete some paperwork and Mika went upstairs to do some cleaning. Mika walked down the hallway to grab the cleaning supplies from the linen closet. She stopped right in front of her daughters door. Turning towards the door Mika turned the knob and walked inside. She then turned on the light. Standing in the doorway Mika looked into her daughters room and decided to clean the room first. She made her way over to the bed as it still remained unmade and stripped the bedding off. She then placed the blankets in the hallway. Mika then went over and started to hang up her daughters new wardrobe in the closet. Soon a color of white caught her attention at the top of the closet shelf. Reaching up for it she felt the material and pulled it out. Mika realized what it was. Tears started streaming down her cheeks. Mika went over to sit on the bed and looked at the bear with the little flower it held. She was remembering that day at the hospital ten years ago. All she could think of was the smile on her daughters face when she gave her that bear. She remembered the hug she received afterward.

"Oh my dear Hana where are you? Please come home. We should have never had agreed to this arrangement," she whispered softly. After looking at her daughters bear, Mika placed it in the bay window. She got back to cleaning her daughters room and washing the bedding. Once her daughter room was fully cleaned and the bed was made again, Mika placed her daughters bear in the middle against the pillows. Before Mika walked out, she looked back into the room for a few moments. Then she turned off the lights and shut the door behind her. Mika spent the next few hours cleaning when Itsuki finished his work. He came into kitchen to find his wife cooking dinner. Once dinner was done being made, they both ate in silence as it started to rain pretty heavy. After they were almost done eating Mika spoke up.

"I hope she's not out in this mess and is safe inside her tent Itsuki," Mika informed.

"I agree dear," Itsuki said.

Higashi Home

Ugo was in his office listening to the news on the television when Eito walked in. Eito spoke up when the news went to commercial.

"What are they saying now?" Eito asked. He took a seat near his fathers desk.

"The Amari's set up a reward of 5 million yen. When she's found and you two are finally married, you will make sure she's put in her place. You will make sure she does what you say. If she tries to run again, threaten her with this," Ugo said. Eito watched his father pullout a box and passed it to him.

"What is it?" Eito asked. He held and looked at the box.

"Open it, it was gonna be a wedding present. I thought it would be best now to give it to you," Ugo said. Eito looked at his father for a few seconds then proceeded to open the box which contained a caliber pistol. He pulled the gun out and held it in his hand.

"Very clever, I'll use this well father. If she disobeys me or tries to run again. Even if we're not married when she's found, I will really put her in her place," Eito said with a smirk.

"Very well my son. Now go I've got to get this paperwork finished with the company in New York," Ugo ordered. Eito walked out with the box in his hand without another word to his father. Eito walked into his room and came up with a plan so vile and evil.

"If Hana is found and tries to run on our wedding day, that day will be her last. I'll end her right in front of her parents. After we are married and she doesn't deliver me a first born son there will be some major consequences," speaking to himself. Eito put the box away in his desk and got back to his paperwork on becoming the next management of his fathers company in Tokyo.

Rin's POV

It was the following morning when I woke up to the sound of rain outside. Getting up from the futon I went over and open the patio door. I looked outside and just seeing the weather I thought we were having a typhoon. The rain and wind were intense.

"Damn looks like I won't be escaping today," I thought. I closed the door and went back over to the futon when the front door opened. I noticed it was the maid. I didn't care for her. She had a stern attitude.

"Miss Rin, Lord Sesshomaru request that you have breakfast with him. Now let's get you changed in a proper kimono," she said. I gave her an attitude myself.

"I've told you all before I refuse to eat with him and I don't take orders from anyone. Stop calling me Rin and leave me alone," I said. I know I was being rude, but I didn't care. She just gave me a cold stare and slammed the door shut and left. I took a few deep short breaths and calmed myself down. The calmness wouldn't last long because I have no doubt he'd show up here pretty soon.

Not even five minutes he slammed the door open. I was standing in the archway of the back patio looking outside. I watched as he stormed across the room and took ahold of my forearm. He then placed me up against the wall and all I saw was coldness in his eyes. He then grabbed my free arm and held it tight so I wouldn't try and hit him again.

"I order you to come have breakfast with me Rin. Why do you refuse?" He demanded. How many times do I have to remind everyone. I gave him a stern attitude just like I did with the maid.

"I've told you like everyone else I don't take orders from anyone. My name has never been Rin so stop calling me that. Who is this girl named Rin anyway? What am I her reincarnation or something? What makes you think I'm her?" I asked. I felt his grip becoming tighter on both arms.

"You are not a reincarnation Rin. Your name has always been Rin. Not that pathetic name your calling yourself now. The reason I know you are Rin is because I know how you acquired those bite marks on your neck," he said. I froze into place when he mentioned the marks on my neck. I have no memory how I acquired them in the first place. I couldn't speak so he spoke up again. His voice calmed down but still had a stern tone to it.

"You don't remember do you? Well let me remind you. When you were eight years old, you were attacked and killed by a wolf demons pack. I found your body dead in the woods. I brought you back to life using this sword here," he said. He finally let go of me. I watched as he stepped back and pulled out a long sword.

"How does a sword bring people back to life?" I thought. I watched as he put the sword away. He went to looking at me but he kept his hands to himself.

"Now are you going to come eat with me or are you choosing to starve?" He asked. I lowered my head and spoke softly.

"I'm not that hungry," I said. He wasn't happy with my answer.

"Fine then, but I expect you to eat with me tonight. You cannot refuse that request. Do not leave this room till that time comes. I will be out for the duration of the day. Remember what will happen if you leave the castle Rin," he said. I kept my head down and didn't respond. I listened as he left the room and shutting the door behind him. I lifted my head up and I knew right then I would leave the castle grounds today. I looked back outside and the rain had finally stopped. I noticed the wind died down. Walking over to my bag I pulled out a pair of black capris and a white short sleeve shirt. I went into my personal washroom and changed. I then put my hair in a braid. Walking back into my room I re-packed my bag and had it ready to go. I also put on my socks and sneakers. Looking at my bag I realized my sleeping bag and tent were gone. I guess they came off when I fell into the river.

I sat in the room thinking were I should try find to my necklace first. I might go over to the well and look around. If it's not there, I'll go to the riverbed where I was found unconscious. I noticed the sun was out in the middle of the sky when I decided that I needed to leave now. I grabbed my bag and strapped it to my back. I then walked over across the patio to see if any guards were around. There wasn't, thank god. There wasn't anyone in the gardens either. I quietly walked across the grass to the back gate. I opened up the gate and peaked outside it and there were no guards. Strange for a castle this size you would think a guard would be standing here. I walked out and closed the gate. I took a deep breath and walk in the general direction of the well. It took a bit to get there cause all the weight I was caring in my backpack. I walked over next to the well and started to search with no luck. It wasn't on the edge or down in it. I decided to take the same path as before and check that part. Then I'll head through the trees towards the river. I'll check every where I walked and ran to.

No luck in those areas either. So I headed back towards were the waterfall was. I noticed a steep hill that I took my time going down. Once I was down I walked along the rocky shore. After several minutes I saw something shine in front of me. It was my necklace. I went and picked it up and I was happy to see it was in one piece. I clipped it back into place. I stood there a few minutes and headed in the direction of the slow moving current of the river. As I was walking I started to think what would happen if he found out that I escaped. But I actually didn't care because he has no right to hold me captive. I just hope I can get far enough away that he can't track me. I pushed that vision to the back of my mind. I continued on the path to wherever it would lead me. I hope to find a hot spring to soak and relax in. Thankfully I packed a bikini with me.

After walking for several hours I found a empty hot spring that was a decent size. Taking off my bag I went and dug out my swim suit. I then went behind a bush and changed. I then went and hid my bag behind the same bush. I grabbed a towel and headed to the springs. Once I arrived I stepped into the water and sat down. The water felt so nice and made my muscles relax pretty quick.

"This feels great. It feels a lot better then the tub back at the castle," I thought. I could fall asleep in this steamy water. I looked up to the sky and noticed it was becoming dusk. Lord Sesshomaru is probably back by now. He's going to be super pissed off that I won't be showing up for dinner. I wonder who he's sending to the room to fetch me?. Probably that annoying toad. I put that thought to the back of my mind. I placed my head back against the rocks and closed my eyes and listened to the sound of the crickets.

Western Steps

Lord Sesshomaru just arrived back to his castle and called for the little green henchmen. He stood outside the dining hall

"Jaken?" Sesshomaru called. The little green imp was by his side in seconds.

"Welcome home milord. Is there anything I can do for you?" Jaken asked. Sesshomaru just looked down to him.

"Go fetch Rin and make sure she's dressed and ready. She will be having dinner with me tonight. I will not take no for a answer again," Sesshomaru said. Before Jaken spoke he bowed before his lord.

"Yes, milord. I'll go get her for you," Jaken said. With that Jaken headed to Rin's room. He arrived at her door in a matter of minutes. Instead of knocking he swung the door open and started to screeching for the girl.

"Rin, lets go. Lord Sesshomaru said it's time to join him for dinner," he shouted. Jaken walked in and he didn't see her anywhere. He then walked towards the patio door to see if she was outside.

"Rin come inside at once it's time to eat," he shouted again. He couldn't find her outside. Jaken was very frustrated that he ran back in the direction his lord would be in. He arrived shortly afterward in the dining hall. Sesshomaru looked up and was mad she was not with Jaken.

"Jaken where is Rin?" He asked. Jaken ran up to his lords side to explain.

"I don't know. I called for her several times and she's not in her room or outside in the gardens," Jaken screeched. Sesshomaru was very frustrated that he rose from his seat and headed to her sleeping quarters.

Sesshomaru's POV

I was beyond mad that she disobey me again. I arrived to her room and slammed the door open. I could sense she was not in here or in the gardens. Looking around the room to make sure nothing was out of place I noticed her bag was gone. I was even more mad that I flashed out to the gardens and picked up her scent going outside the castle gate.

"How the hell did she get passed my guards. When I find her, I'll have no choice but to kill her myself," I thought. Soon I ran in the direction of her scent. It first led me to the well. I could tell she wasn't here for very long. So I followed the same path she took that lead towards the river.

"Is she trying to throw my scent off so I can't find her? She's not very clever. When I find you Rin you would've wished you stayed in the castle," I thought again. I continued down the path towards the falls. As I walked along the shore I could sense she stopped and picked something up.

"She must of found something that belonged to her. She could of just told me and I would of brought her to find whatever it was," I said. She's still stubborn like she was when she was eight. I continued up the path she took hoping I can get to her first before someone else does.

Rin's POV

After soaking in the hot springs for almost an hour I got out. I then went to change back into my clothes. Once that was done, I decided to make myself camp and got a fire going. For dinner I found some berries not far from where I was. They were so juicy and ripe. Taking a seat against the tree I looked up to see it was a bit cloudy. At least I could see some stars. As I sit here across from the fire I started to hear the sound of the bushes shaking. It made me jump a bit because I knew a squirrel couldn't do that much shaking. Soon followed by the shaking a growled could be heard. It was the same growl from days ago. I got to my feet and started to walk backwards to face the bush. If it comes out of the bushes I'll try to break into a run. I may not be a fast runner but I'll give it my all. I was soon startled by the same male voice who had his coyotes almost attack me.

"Wow you are a sight for sore eyes. For a human you sure are beautiful. I'm so thankful my pack didn't kill you. Oh how rude of me I never introduced myself. My name is Kyoya and you young lady will be come my mate soon," he said. I watched a very tall tan man step forward. He had grayish black hair and red eyes. I noticed he was a demon. Not just any demon a coyote demon. Wait what did he just say? What the hell is a mate? He's not gonna have me be his wife is he?.

"Why so shy beautiful? Aren't you the least bit excited to be married soon? I have to say I'm not to keen on having half-breed children. But with you I'll make an exception," he said. Half-breed children? What the hell?. I need to get away from this bastard. I turned to run in a different direction hoping I could get away from him. But that was a fail. He grabbed me and pinned me to the ground with my hands above my head.

"Oh you love to play tag don't you? It seems I won and my prize is you darling. Just relax as I'm gonna mark you. That way no other demon can claim you. Don't move love as it will sting for just a bit," he said. I watched as he opened his both to bare his fangs to me. Is he gonna bite me? I need to get him off of me but how? I then realized my left knee was in between his legs. With all my strength I kneed him in his crotch. I watched as he howled in pain and fell over. I got up fast just after he let me go. But the pain didn't last long for him. I felt his claw hand grip my ankle and pulled me back down to the ground. Then he flipped me till my back was to the ground.

"AHHHH" I screamed.

"YOU BITCH HOW DARE YOU DO THAT TO ME. THAT'S IT IM GONNA KILL YOU NOW," he shouted. He brought both of us to our feet as he held my forearm.

"Any last words before I end your life?" He asked. I was about to say something when I caught the sight of familiar golden eyes looking at us. I guess the demon Kyoya could sense Lord Sesshomaru's presence. Soon the wolf demon wrapped his arms around my chest area and pulled out a knife. He then placed it to my throat.

"Who's there? Come out now and show yourself," Kyoya said. Soon Lord Sesshomaru stepped through the trees. I noticed he had anger is his golden eyes.

"Let my ward go you pathetic demon," Lord Sesshomaru said. I watched him pull out a different sword and held it in front of him. Did he say I was his ward?.

"Let her go? Are you mad? No I'm not gonna let her go because I'm gonna kill her. She refused for me to mark her. You know what I won't kill her. I'll mark her now," the demon Kyoya said. He put his knife away and lifted my chin. I watched Lord Sesshomaru's eyes go red.

"If anyone is to mark her it will be me. I'm not gonna ask you again, let her go. She belongs to me," he shouted. Are all demons gonna try to claim me as theirs? I need to put my foot down and get this asshole to let go of me.

"I do not know what a mark is and I will not be bitten by either of you. I don't belong to anyone. Now let go," I said. I used all strength and hit his lower stomach area and he growled in pain. He finally let me go. I tried to make a run for it when I heard the snap of a finger. Soon a massive coyote was standing several feet in front of me.

"Hate to break it you but your about to become his dinner. I have to say this one here love to play with his meals. Enjoy my beloved pet, while I'll kill this dog demon myself," he said. I heard him snap his fingers again and the coyote in front of me got down on all fours and lunged at my left arm. The pain was so intense I let out a huge scream.

"AHHHHHHHH," I let out. I felt myself being thrown pretty far that I landed near the edge of a steep hill. I think my head may have hit something in the ground. Without realizing it I noticed Lord Sesshomaru was standing right in front of me. I felt my vision going blurry when I noticed he went after the big coyote.

"Die you pathetic beast," he shouted. I watched him slice the the coyote in half. I think I'm going to be sick. Trying to stand back up I started to get some blurry visions of the same small girl named Rin. But I couldn't figure what the vision was. I soon heard the demon Kyoya again.

"You killed my strongest pack member now I'm going to kill you. Then I'll mark that girl right afterward," he said. I hope Lord Sesshomaru is stronger and faster at killing. I really don't want to become Kyoya's mate.

"You have caused harm to my ward. Now it will be you the one that will die," Lord Sesshomaru said. I felt my vision going again as I watched them both battle it out. I somehow lost my footing and fell backwards down the steep dirt hill. Before I knew it I hit my head again and came to a stop. I was laying on my back facing the sky when it started raining. I was getting more visions of the same girl. Why am I seeing this girl in my head?. I closed my eyes. I began having a vision not long after.

A cool breeze blew across small village. Families were returning home from working in the fields after hards days work. At the very last house lived a family of five, my family. My mother worked in the house by doing the laundry, tidying up, and cooking. While my father and older brothers worked in the fields. They hunted for meat of weak demons. Then there was me five year old Rin who was very adventurous and like to wonder off every so often.

"Rin, please go wash up for dinner. Your father and brothers have already done so," my mother said.

"Okay, mommy," I replied back. As I made my way to the small river by my house I started to smell the sign of smoke near by. As I turned around, all I could see was fire shooting up from the roofs of the villagers homes. Fear was running through me. I ran as fast as I could to my home. But I stopped in my tracks and saw three man I didn't know walk out with my family. I hid behind a tree and watched as each man was killing my brothers and father first and leaving my mother last. They sent a blade through her several times, and left her to die a slow and painful death. Trying not to scream, I watched as the three men get on their horses and left. Not waiting another second I ran to my mothers side to see that she was still alive.

"Mommy, mommy don't leave me," I said. I cried on her shoulder. She placed her hand on my small cheeks and whispered softly to me.

"Rin, sweetie you need to get out of here and run to the nearest village. Don't let those men see you or they will kill you as well. Run and don't look back. Always remember me, your father and brothers. I love you my little Rin," she said. I watched her close her eyes and take her last breath. Doing as she told me, I kissed her goodbye.

"I'll never forget you," I said. Those were the last words I said.

I made it to the nearest village that knew my family's village. It seems that they already heard about the massacre that took place. But they didn't want to take responsibility of me. That's when I realized I was on my own. I wondered around the village till I found an abandoned hunt. It wasn't the best, but it would become my home for next three years.

Not soon after I started to have another vision:

A young silent happy eight year old orphan girl named Rin had just came back to the village. She helped bring food and water to an injured demon. She found him a few days ago in the forest. As young Rin made it back to her little shaft of home, is when she noticed a strange man in it. The man turned around and noticed the young child.

"This your home?" he asked her. The very silent Rin just nodded her head. Just then screaming could be heard coming from the villagers. The man that was in the hunt went running out to see wolfs attacking the villagers. Young Rin ran out as well and was beyond scared that she took off into the forest. She soon was being chased by wolfs. She started heading to the injured yokai for protection. As she was nearing the area where the demon was. Rin tripped over a root that stuck out of the ground and was attacked by several wolfs. Soon her world went dark and silent. Next thing she remembered was waking up in the arm of the same demon that she met and saved a few days ago. He was her guardian, he was her protector, he was...

I opened my eyes and faced the same golden eyes from my past memories. I could tell he was really angry with me. Before he could kill me with his poison claws I needed him to hear me to say his name. I slowly lifted my hand and softly spoke to him.

"Lord Sesshomaru please...," I said. I felt my world go dark.

Sesshomaru's POV

I looked to Rin's sleeping form as she passed out in my arms. I was getting ready to end her life with my poison claws until she said my name. After hearing Rin say my name I couldn't bare to kill her now. I very carefully picked her up and teleported to the top of the hill. Jaken had already burnt the bodies of the wolf demon and his pack member after I ordered him to. Thankfully he brought Au Un with him and I went and placed Rin on their back. I could tell Jaken eyed me when I had placed Rin on top of Au Un. He knew better not to make a treat towards her. Before we left I found her bag hidden in a tree. Not sure why she put it there but I didn't care. I grabbed the reins and walked back to my castle.

Once we arrived I brought Rin back to her room. I would have the medic take care of her in there. I placed Rin on top of the futon and watched her sleeping form again. As I watched her sleep my mind kept picturing myself kissing her. I was about to lean into her lips again when I saw shine on her. Looking down I saw something that was in the shape of her favorite flower. I picked it up to get a better look at.

"So was this what she was looking for along the rocky shore?" I thought. I guess this piece of jewelry means a lot to her. I let go of the necklace and returned to look at her face. I started to examine Rin's face more. I noticed her nose still held the same shape. I carefully traced it and it was soft to the touch. Rin has really matured into her new facial features. I began to lower my lips till they hovered over hers again when I noticed she was starting to stir in her sleep. I had to leave Rin's room because I would of kissed her sleeping form again. When she wakes up I hope she'll come forward and tell me where she's been these last ten years.
