Chapter 9

"Because I wanted to."

That's what he had said. He apparently had wanted to kiss Naruto and so he did it. Naruto was in a daze. School had ended and he was supposed to be on his way home but instead his legs had carried him back to the music room.

He was now sitting on the couch, his guitar in his lap as he looked outside the window.

To think that only a few hours earlier he was sitting here crying, and now he was instead sitting here with a goofy smile on his lips.

He and Sasuke hadn't spoken since the time in the room. The bell had rung after Sasuke had given an answer and he had then mostly hung out with Kiba, Gaara and Sakura while Sasuke had left to head to the library.

He looked out the window a bit more till he heard his phone ring. He pulled it out from his pocket and answered it.

"Hello?"

"Are you just gonna sit there with that stupid smile on your face or are you gonna get down here?"

Naruto was silent for a few seconds till he smiled.

"Hello to you too, Teme." he said cheerfully for a second till he went a bit confused. "Wait. Where are you?"

"Look out the window and down."

Naruto did so and there stood the raven-haired teen.

"So, are you coming down or not?" he asked and flashed a smile when Naruto gave him his answer.

"I am!" he exclaimed.

"Then hurry up and get your ass down here."

Sasuke then hung up.

Naruto stood there for a few seconds thinking till he suddenly grabbed his guitar, put it back in its case, and ran out.

"Sasuke!" Naruto exclaimed once he was outside.

Said raven turned and flashed him a smile. He didn't hesitate as he ran up and threw his arms around the raven almost knocking him over.

"What have gotten you so happy?" he heard Sasuke's voice from above him. He pulled away from him but let his hands remain on his shoulders.

"I don't know. Why don't you tell me?" he said and gave a sly smile.

He then pulled back completely when they both began to hear both girls and guys whispering to each other.

"Let's get out of here."

"Good idea."

And they left.

About thirty minutes later after going around the city they went to a café, sat down by a corner and ordered some food.

They talked for a few moments about random things till their food arrived.

As they ate Naruto wondered when he should drop the bomb but he didn't need to worry because Sasuke did that instead.

"So are you going to tell me why you've been avoiding me for the last couple of days?"

Naruto took a sip from his drink before he decided to answer.

"I…" he began and took a deep breath, calming his nerves before continuing. "I avoided you because I no longer saw you as a friend. I saw you as something more and it scared me." he looked down avoiding Sasuke's gaze. "I was really happy that you accepted that I was gay, but I wasn't sure that you were going to accept the feelings I had towards you."

Sasuke was… He couldn't explain it. Stunned? Speechless? Touched? He was at least a loss of words that much he knew.

So that's why he's been avoiding me. Could it also have been the cause of him singing and crying like that? Oh wow, then he's really not joking. Well, he shouldn't be since he kissed me.

He smiled for a brief moment.

"I see it must've been hard for you." he said and the blonde teen looked up and gave a shy smile. "But there's still something that is bugging me." Naruto went silent as he listened to what Sasuke had to say. "For how long have you been feeling like this?"

There was a small silence before Naruto answered.

"For a few days. Maybe for a week or two. I'm not really sure to be honest." he said and gave a weak chuckle that quickly died down. "Though I could maybe just have realized it then."

There was another silence that lasted for five whole minutes before Naruto felt a hand on his own. He looked up at his hand that was on the table covered by a pale hand before he looked up at his friend.

He was met with a smile that made his heart want to melt. And that thought only increased when Sasuke's thumb began to stroke circles on the back of his hand. He looked down at their hands as a smile crept on his lips.

"Naruto." he looked up at the raven.

"Hm?"

"Go out with me."

Naruto's heart stopped beating for a split second.

What did he just say? G-go out? Together? W-with me?

"A-are you asking me out?" he asked nervously as he tried to breath normally.

He can't be serious.

"Yes."

Okay I take it back.

Millions of thoughts were running around in his mind as he tried to think of an answer. An easy "yes" or "no" was simple and there was no pressure to say it. But then two thoughts hit him like a knife in the chest.

The first one, the promise he had made to himself only a few weeks after he found out he was gay. Tell his family he's gay.

And the second one, Sakura.

Sakura, his friend, and supporter. What would happen if he went out with Sasuke? Would Sakura still stay by their side? His side? Or would she end their friendship?

Just the mere thought of it made his heart ache. He couldn't bear to lose a friend like her. But if he said no to Sasuke, then would he lose him?

Argh! This is so frustrating!

He brought a hand to his face as he groaned in annoyance forgetting Sasuke was even there till the raven's voice made him snap from his thoughts and look at him.

"Naruto, are you alright? What's wrong?" the concern in his eyes was obvious.

"I'm fine. It's just…" he trailed off and sighed. "I would love to go out with you, but… There are some things I need to do first."

"Okay. Care to tell me what those "things" are?"

He thought about it for a minute before he gave an answer.

"Sure." he took a deep breath before he began to explain. "A few weeks after I found out that I was gay, I made a promise to myself. I promised that when I find love that I will tell my family about my sexual orientation."

That's some promise. But…

"Why do you need to tell them?" he only asked out of curiosity but the answer the blonde gave him was not expected.

"Because they're my family." he said with a serious face on and a voice to match it with. "They have the right to know. I have my suspicious that they already know, but its best if they hear it from me."

There was no joke lying behind his voice, no tint of fear in his blue eyes. He was all calm and deadly serious which made Sasuke want to smile. This was one of the many things why he liked Naruto. He was so confident in himself when it came to certain things.

He wiped away the shock in his dark eyes and gave the blonde a small smile instead.

"That's the Naruto I know." he paused, picking his words carefully before he spoke again. "I'll wait and see how it goes. If they accept you as you are, which I'm sure they will. Will you then go out with me?"

He studied the blonde's face. The teen's eyes were shut and eyebrows were furrowed together in thought. He then opened his eyes and gave him a sly smile.

"Maybe."

Naruto has never been this nervous before.

It was around noon on a Sunday and he was in his room pacing back and forth. His guitar lying on his bed as the blonde paced back and forth trying so hard not to feel nervous, but didn't succeed.

He then finally sat down on the bed's edge, picked up his guitar and began to play. The sound of the instrument quickly calmed his nervous as he began to sing.

Two hours later he was called down for lunch.

Showtime.

He placed his guitar back on the bed as he took a deep breath calming his nervous. He then went for the door and down the stairs.

There was some chatting going on between his siblings and parents for a few moments till a silence took over. He was just about to break the silence but his sister was faster.

"So, what songs are you guys gonna play at the festival?"

Naruto cursed mentally a bit annoyed on the inside, while on the outside he was smiling.

"I'm not gonna say. It's a secret." he grinned.

His sister grinned back before she returned to her food.

There was another silence for a few minutes till Naruto broke it. He put his chopsticks down first and wiped the grin away from his face completely.

"Mom, dad, Kyuubi, Kurama." he began first catching his family's attentions. Eight eyes set on him.

"What is it sweetie?" his mother asked with the same sweet motherly tone she always spoke in towards him and his siblings. It made him want to smile but he swallowed it down.

"I have something that I need to tell you all. Something I should've told you guys right after I was certain of it."

There was another silence. This one filled with tension.

"Well, what is it son?" he heard his father ask. He could hear in his voice and the look he was giving him that he was a bit frightened.

"It's a bit… Complicated."

"Are you in trouble?"

"No."

"Have someone done something to you? Threatened you?"

"No."

"Then what is it?"

"I…" he trailed off and took a deep breath. He looked up a minute later, his eyes glowing with confident as he spoke out three words.

"I am gay."

It was in the evening on a Sunday. Sasuke was lying on his bed deep in thought. His phone was lying on the nightstand as he waited for the blonde to call him.

He told him the other day that he would tell his family about him today at around lunchtime.

And now it was soon dinnertime at his house. He was torn between feeling worried and annoyed.

Then suddenly his phone started to ring. He quickly grabbed it and answered immediately.

"Hello?"

"Hi, Sasuke." a tired voice from the other end responded.

"Naruto? Are you alright?"

"Never better." he heard a weak chuckle, then. "You were right."

"Right about what?" Sasuke asked even though he was pretty sure about what he meant.

"They accepted me." there was another weak chuckle. "They accepted me!"

"I told you so." he said and began to chuckle as well, though it didn't last for very long as the same tired voice spoke again.

"Yes, Sasuke."

"Hm?"

"Yes, Sasuke. I, Uzumaki Naruto will go out with you."

There was a silence.

It felt like there was nothing breathing on the other side anymore, that's what Naruto thought.

"Sasuke? Are you still there?"

There was a brief chuckle on the other end.

"Yes. I'm still here." there was a pause. "And I, Uchiha Sasuke thank you."

There was a short silence till Naruto started laughing and on the other side Sasuke chuckling.

This will become one interesting year.
