Chapter 9-Friends
Blaine sat in his dorm room, staring glumly at his phone for what was probably the 50th time that hour, Wes and David were supposedly doing Latin homework next to him, but to anyone who walked in it would have looked a lot more like they were having an intense pillow fight! Normally Blaine would have joined in, but he was far too preoccupied staring into space lately. He seemed to be doing a lot of that at the moment, and his friends were worried about him, they had tried being more crazy than usual (if that's even possible) but Blaine just hadn't been paying any attention. They were really worried about him, he had hardly talked or eaten for the last week, and if anyone talked to him he would just give them a kind of dazed murmur.
Wavid decided something must be done, and they must be the ones to do it. Blaine hadn't been this out of it since Jeremiah, and even then he'd talk to them about him. At the beginning of the week he had just been a happy sort of dazed, but over the last few days he had just seemed distraught about something, and he couldn't stop looking at his phone, it was like the thing was surgically attached to his hand. They couldn't bear to see their friend so crazed over, by the looks of things, some boy who said he would call.
They began planning on Sunday night, and by Monday morning had a fool proof 4 step programme.
Step 1: Get the warblers involved.
Wes banged his gavel (Which he had named mjolnir after Thor's) to get the 20 teenage boys attention. "Gentlemen, Gentlemen, please calm down- we have something very important to discuss at today's meeting" Suddenly people were shouting all sorts of suggestions, it wasn't very often an impromptu meeting was called, especially so far away from a competition.
"Are we getting a new soloist?"
"Did you get someone pregnant?"
Did you and David finally get together?"
"Did you get David pregnant?"
Wes Banged his gavel again, but this time to no avail, until finally David got up and stood on top of the councils table.
"Everybody…SHUT UP!"
This caught the warbler's attention, and suddenly David had 20 pairs of eyes staring at him blankly.
"Over the last week, one of our own has been distracted, disoriented and disheartened- our lead soloist is in trouble and he needs our help! Who's in?"
Most of the warblers had noticed Blaine's blank gaze this week as well, he hadn't really been there at all, not even in performances. Plus everybody new how fun a Wavid plan was. Soon 22 (including Wes and David's) hands were raised. Step 1 was complete.
Step 2: Talk to Blaine, or Sing to Blaine.
Later on that day Blaine was ambushed by Nick, who was the bait. He started talking very quickly about something, which Blaine kind of zoned out to until he found Nick looking at him expectantly, he just kind of murmured a dazed yes, and then found himself running after him down the corridor and hoping that whatever he had just agreed to wouldn't end in expulsion, because knowing his friends, it might.
Blaine found himself in the Dalton Academy courtyard facing Jeff who had a huge grin on his face, this was definitely going to end in expulsion! Blaine mentally face palmed as Jeff began to talk.
"We've noticed that lately you have been kinda out of it, and sad, and not really Blaine at all so we wanted to remind you that you could always talk to us, and to invite you to a Warbler sleepover tonight!"
With that a gentle humming began and Warblers appeared from every direction
Um um um um
Um um um um
Um um um um um x2
All the warblers were now stood in front of Blaine In classic formation as Jeff took the lead
Sometimes in our lives
We all have pain
We all have sorrow
But if we are wise
We know that there's always tomorrow
Lean on me!
When you're not strong
And I'll be your friend
I'll help you carry on
For it won't be long
'till I'm gonna need
Somebody to lean on
Please! (Please)
Swallow your pride (pride)
If I have things
You need to borrow

I'll be your friend (I'll be your friend)

For it won't be long (o it won't be long)

By this point the warblers had left their normal formations and where crowding around Blaine, who was stood still in shock.
(Just lean on me) you just call on me brother (hey)
When you need a hand (when you need a hand)

Lean on me
If (If)
There is a load! (There is a load)

Lean on lean on lean on me lean on me
Lean on lean on lean on me
I'm gonna need (somebody) somebody to lean on
I'm gonna need somebody to lean on (somebody to lean on)
As the song came to an end all the warblers were leaning on one another in normal formation, with Blaine in his place at the front. He had tears running shamelessly down his face. He couldn't help but think how good his friends were to him, but also about how crappy Kurt's friends must be if he couldn't talk to them about something like Karofsky! He knew his friends would never judge him and would always have his back.
Step 3: The sleepover
Blaine made his way into the Warblers hall and found it completely cleared of all furniture but a big table at the back with food and a projector on it. He had been told all they needed to bring was themselves in pyjamas, Blaine also bought his phone- just in case SOMEBODY texted him. He was the last one there and found everybody else already in sleeping bags, ready to play ratchet screwdriver. He found his partner was Thad and quickly hurried over, grabbing a sleeping bag on his way.
Trent was in the middle and he yelled anyone without socks on, Blaine quickly began to scramble towards the centre, trying to reach Trent. But Thad had locked his arms around his waist and Blaine couldn't escape, no matter how much he squirmed! David beat him to the centre and swapped places with Trent. He and Thad also swapped places. The game continued for about an hour until someone got a bloody nose (this was normally the sign that it was time for a slightly less violent game.
Next on the agenda was never have I ever. So everybody got into a circle, and Jeff started-
"Never have I ever… gone skinny dipping"
Wes and David both removed their hoodies.
Next was Nick
"Never have I ever kissed a girl" Everybody but Trent took off a piece of clothing. This went on for a while until it was David's turn (He and Wes had already discussed his question) Blaine and Wes were left in only their boxers but everybody else had at least two items of clothing on.
"Never have I ever…. Kissed a guy"
Everybody looked at Jeff and Nick who blushed and took off their matching pyjama bottoms, they almost didn't notice Blaine slip out of his boxers, but Wes did.
"OH MY GOD….BLAINE! YOU HAD YOUR FIRST REAL KISS! WHAT WAS IT LIKE WHO WAS IT WITH!" Wes all but screamed at him, by now everyone else was staring at the very red soloist.
"I um erm he and uh um… can I put my clothes back on" Blaine just about managed to stammer out, since he had lost and the game was technically over thy let him get dressed on the promise that he would tell them everything. Blaine didn't really now whether or not to tell them the whole story, but he decided it would be easiest to explain that way so he sat down the warbler's and told them all about his weekend…
30 minutes later and everyone was staring at Blaine like he had just grown a third ear in the middle of his forehead. There was an awkward silence for a while, until David broke the ice.
"And this Kurt guy, he's hot?"
"He's not hot! He's so much more than hot he is the most stunning human being I have ever seen, his hair is perfectly coiffed and his skin is so smooth it's like a porcelain doll, and his eyes are the most breath-taking concoction of a bright sea Blue when he's happy, a clouded turquoise, like the sky on an autumn day when he's sad or a huge storm when he's angry, and the way he speaks is so eloquent, I can hardly believe that he really exists, let alone that all this awful shit is happening to him."
Blaine's friends could see a certain sparkle in his eye when he talked about Blaine, he talked about him like he was both his oldest friend and an amazing acquaintance all at once. It was like Blaine was talking about his soul mate, and they couldn't help but wonder if maybe he was…
They went to sleep for the rest of the night after that, they did all have school the next morning. So far Wavids plan had gone flawlessly, and there was only one step left.
Step 4: Contact
They all new that the only way Blaine was going to be able to concentrate even vaguely on anything else would be if they were to get him to text Kurt, they were kind of confused as to why he hadn't done so already. They decide to put this part of the plan into action on Tuesday morning, and so Blaine got woken up by a smiling Wes with two cups of coffee at 7 o clock in the morning.
Blaine knew from experience that this was never a good thing, but never the less got dressed quickly and followed Wes through the school, until he had no idea where they were going, hey finally stopped outside a small room he had never seen before.
"This" Wes began "is the trouble maker's closet, it is the most secret room in the school, and only the head master and a smattering of students even know it exists, it is the perfect place to talk. So let's talk"
He led the way into the room and sat Blaine down as he began to talk him
"All week you've been moping about how this guy-Kurt, hasn't texted you, so I have just one question? Why haven't you texted him?"
Blaine knew Wes was going to ask him this…
"Well he seems so pressured at the moment I don't want to be just another thing he has to deal with, I want him to want to have me."
"Dude, I get that. But if you were him, in his situation, if you were insecure and hated on like he is then I feel certain you would want the other person to text you first"
"I suppose I never really thought about it that way before, it must really be so much harder for him, I can't even begin to imagine how he copes."
Blaine got out his phone and typed a quick message to Kurt, just at the right time.
Courage-B
As he sent it he thought about how lonely and insecure he was before he came to Dalton, and how much his friends had changed his life, and how he now had so much courage because of his friends.
