By the time we get there, it is nightfall and everything is damp and dark. Something just doesn't feel right. I just hope that we can get out of Moria safely, but I fear the path ahead.
As I am walking alongside Legolas I hear Gimli talking with pride lacing his voice about the doorways of the dwarfs and how they are hidden from everyone, unless you know where to find it.
Gandalf agrees with Gimli but states that even the dwarfs cannot find them either. I giggle at that and have to bite my lip to suppress more laughter when Legolas whispers in my ear "Now why doesn't that surprise me."
Gandalf finds the door and tells everyone that it only shows in the moonlight. There is an elvish riddle written above it, so Gandalf translates it to us, "Speak friend and Enter."
Pippin pipes up and asks, "Well, what do you suppose that means?"
"Simple. All you have to do is speak the password and the doors will open." Gandalf replies in exasperation.
"Annon Edhellen edro hi ammen. Fennas Nogothrim lasto beth lammen. ('Gate of the Elves open now for me. Doorway of the Dwarf-folk listen to the word of my tongue.')"
As Gandalf continues to figure out the password my attention is diverted by the sound of water splashing. At this I tense up, the feeling of unease passing through my blood and a stirring between my shoulder blades. I look over and see that Merry and Pippin are the cause of the sound. As I am about to intervene, Aragorn steps in and stops them, cautioning them to not disturb the water. The water starts to move in waves and the feeling of dread and tension from my body does not leave. Gandalf finally gives up trying to figure out the pass word and throws his staff down in annoyance. I can't but giggle at the sight of his frustration. Frodo suddenly stands up and with excitement tinging his voice states that it was a riddle.
That clever little Hobbit, he had figured it out. I cannot help but feel proud of him. As the door opens I cannot help but feel a change upon the air. My worries and fears grow stronger as we head into the entrance of the mines. The stirring in my shoulder blades gets stronger as if they are trying to warn me of the dangers ahead. Shaking my head I walk forward more but am suddenly stopped as I crash into Legolas as he abruptly comes to a standstill. A light suddenly illuminates from Gandalf's staff, reveals the dreadful vision before us. The corpses of many dwarfs are strewn across the ground. The anguished cry from Gimli strikes a chord in my chest. I rush forward to comfort him as best I can. Gimli looks to me and I try to convey with my eyes the sorrow I feel for him. I look to Legolas and find that he is pulling an arrow from one of the dwarfs. Orcs.
Boromir is exclaiming that we needed to leave and for once I couldn't agree more with him, but before any of us can more the panicked shout from Sam draws all of our attention to the scene that has begun to occur at the entrance. Frodo has been grabbed at by a creature from the lake. The tentacles are wrapping itself around Frodo while knocking everyone else back. It looks to be a kraken. A creature of the sea, thought of a smaller scale, as if it was a baby. The men rush in to save Frodo while Legolas shoots at the creature.
I look to Gandalf and find that he is staring straight at me, with pleading eyes asking me to help them.
"Gandalf please, you know why… I …. I cant. What if they turn me away. Or worse think that…" I plead to him in my mind.
"My dear only for them knowing, can the really judge you. Please Athena." Gandalf urges me to step in and help.
Sighing I take off my cloak and let them out, hoping that this is something that I will not regret later. The pain radiating from my back is excruciating, and will be for quite some time now as they have not been let out or used for so long. I look to Legolas and see that he is staring at me, with so many emotions crossing his face, but before I can distinguish any of them I shoot of into the sky with my midnight black wings that have sprung from my back.
