Spirals

Just saw Captain Marvel the other day. It was pretty neat! Slowly built up on its way and it was cool! I just think she arrived too late to be featured in The MCU. Like where was she during the Avengers and so forth? It gets me every time. A common thing but that's just me. I still enjoy all these movies. And we're only a month away from 'Avengers Endgame'! The trailer just dropped in and I'm very excited to see it!

Here's another chappy for ya. This one's really short compared to the other ones, but the climax approaches...

Two days... Midtown High... Classes...

Peter solemnly sighed as he was sat down at his desk, looking over a few videos of Spider-Man on his laptop. It was weird. Watching himself out there zipping by a few districts, but at the same time, cool that he was being acknowledged. Speaking of time, he looked over at the clock at the back wall and it was still going slow as ever. 'Just a few minutes...' His eagerness for school to end was something he looked forward to now ever since he wore the suit. Nowadays, seconds feel like minutes and minutes felt like hours here. Exaggerating as it is, it was pretty difficult to handle the wait. He wasn't to be rude of anyway, but he couldn't find squat of the hidden base for the past two days. He really needed to go back to those places.

"Mr. Parker?" His teacher called out.

The teen immediately picked his head up from his desk, closing his PC shut and ensured his attention to her, "What? What is it?"

The woman drew a raised eyebrow, "You still with us?"

"I... uh. Yeah."

"Good, then what do we need to do to calculate linear acceleration from Point A and Point B? Any guesses?"

Taking a brief moment to think what she said, "It's the... er... Max cancels out, which is Gravity times Sine."

"That is correct." The woman nodded, then turning her gaze to one of her students in front of Peter, "See, Flash, being the fastest isn't always the best, if you are wrong."

This drew a couple of laughs from the class. The football player scowled and turned his chair around to lock his glare over to Peter, "You are dead." He sternly said with a cold look on his face. Still the same old Flash. Wonder what's his deal? Of course, Peter wasn't all that threatened, given from his all-gifted abilities. Now that he thinks about it. He could actually beat Flash at his own game! People would be seeing him in a whole new light! But again, he didn't wanna draw a lot of attention. Nor did he needed it. It'd create a lot of weird vibes around him. What happened next surprised Peter, "Nah, I'm messing with you, Parker. It's all good man."

Peter blinked from the response, "Oh. Uh... cool?" Did he hear that right? He wasn't sure himself. Then again, who knew. Flash can be a bit mischievous at times, but he'll have to play along for now. It's weird. Was Flash being less rude than usual lately? Was it that night ago? It might've been.

The bell rang.

Without anyone even noticing, Peter opened the drawers to grab up more of the web-fluid containers that he made recently. If was he gonna be doing this, he's gonna need a lot more of web-fluid for whatever's coming next.

... Lunch...

Peter was slung up on the table with a hand propped up to his face. As said from the party, he was grouped up with the Decathlon team in the cafeteria at a small table. Liz Allen was just making another announcement. Though he paid half attention to what his team leader was saying. Something about a few weeks until National Decathlon? He shrugged.

He looked over to the empty spot beside him. It's weird. Gwen wasn't here. And she's usually here all the time. Maybe something's come up? Was she on a trip? Where was she? He still couldn't help but feel a bit of shame from having to leave her from the party. He should drop by her house. But what would she think? Would she leave him out? Would she be mad? This was too frustrating...

He also couldn't help but wonder what was he gonna be doing once he gets to the Maggia base. It's been a troubling few hours and he needed some sort of a plan. He was going into enemy territories and it's all on him to put a stop to these criminal activities.

It'd be like any other day, right? He'd find the crooks, web them up, the cops will arrest them, and his name will be cleared. Home free!

So he thinks...

"Hey, where have you been?

"I... Had a little run..."

"Yeah, obviously. Look at that wound! If Lonnie finds that we've gone off in the streets he'll have head-"

"Man, who gives a damn what he says? We joined this for the money."

"Whatever man, just keep it to yourself. Gonna get us killed these days..."

The Daily Bugle...

Peter walked over to Mr. Jameson's office and in his hands were the sets of photos that he was just turning in for the day. With all the considerate deeds he's done, surely the man's will see things through. Right? Let that sink in for a bit. He opened up the door, entering the room, "Hey, Mr. Jameson."

Jonah turned from his computer, "Kid! Started worrying I was gonna fire you already!" He took a cigar in his mouth, "That was a joke by the way. Go on! Bring them in!"

He walked over to his desk, handing the photo's to his boss, "Wasn't easy, but I manage to get the job done."

"Hoho, yeah. These will do just fine..." He chuckled as he skimmed through pictures.

'Oh boy...' Peter having had enough, clapped his hands, "Welp! If that's all you need! I'll be heading out now!" He said, having to hurry out to through the door.

"Woah, Parker! What the heck are you doing?!"

Peter halted in his steps, turning to him in confusion,"...Leaving?"

"Without your pay?" Jonah smirked, holding out an envelope, comically waving it around.

Peter facepalmed himself for forgetting. What kind of person would forget to grab their money? This whole Maggia thing is getting to his head. He nervously chuckled, "Pft! Right! I was just making sure you'd remember! Heh."

"Hey, before you head out. I wanna show you something." He gestured his hand over to his computer. Peter nodded and went behind his desk, overlooking at a video. He watched it a couple of minutes to notice it was a crime report around the world, "Pretty neat, ay? These meatheads are always getting what's coming them. Serves them right! You know, back in my day, I use to be part of an organization team full of investigators."

"Really? Nice!"

"Ah, Those were the days. I can still remember like it was five minutes ago. Heh, we'd solve all sorts of cases... Yep. They used to call us 'The Dream Team."

The intercom clicked in, with Betty on the line "Don't listen to him, Peter. He's just making it up." The two looked over to the side of the glass window to find her waving at them.

Jonah frowned from the response, clicked again, "Am not! Betty, who gave you permission to barge in?"

"Oh yeah? You should have heard the time when he-

"Butt out of my business or I'm degrading your pay!"

"No, you won't." She replied confidently.

"..."

"..."

"Get back to work!"

"On it boss!"

Jonah fixed his tie, clearing his throat, "As I was saying, it takes a lot of brains to figure out these sorts of schemes. Basically, have to build up from all this crap. Adding two and two and whatnot."

"Hm..." Peter nodded, having to think about it. Is'nt that what he's been doing? Or was it he not looking at the right place? Strange.

"Bah, what do you care?! Get on out! Grab those pictures!"

Hours later... Off in the streets...

"-And from there forward, you'll find the grocery store!," Spider-Man said to an elderly lady, having a little trouble of where she needed to go. She simply nodded and thanked him for the directions, making her way off.

Peter looked over at his watch and noticed it was almost time for him to go back. Spider-Man whipped up a line of web and yanked himself a few buildings to his next stop. His mind was focused on one thing. Putting these people to a stop. So as he believed, he still didn't know what he was gonna do. It's not like he was gonna go head first and fend off against these guys. Well, maybe. He was having second thoughts on what he was doing. It's so ridiculous, it might get himself killed. No. It's stupid. The cops could handle, this can't they? That's right!

But where were they at now exactly? As far as he can tell from their reports, they still haven't come up with anything. Looking at where he's at now, Spider-Man was actually ahead of them. The first thing he should do was let them know of what's going on, but then what? Then it would make HIM look bad! Was he overthinking again?!

Spider-Man was nearing the sewer hole. He sighed, 'I don't know if I'm getting any closer to finding out where they are.' He landed softly and walked up to it. He popped open the sewer lid into his hands, "And here we go... Again..." He stood there for a good minute or two. His mind was still mush. He shrugged it off as he jumped into it, placing the lid back the way it was before.

Peter landed on the floor, taking in his surroundings, and well... everything was dimmed. The faint light spread over a few fillers. He flickered over his flashlight from his phone, 'I'm here now, but I still don't know where I'm getting at.' As far as he knew, the New York Sewer systems are like mazes in here. It took him two days to try to at least find something. Apparently, the trail of blood on the thug's arm gave out and now he was going in circles. No trails mean more crazy routes he had to take. He had to find something. Anything would do. He sighed, "Hope I can find this gang before the fumes overwhelm me..." He started walking over to a passage. Lots of pipes and bars around. It was pretty neat to see how much effort was put into this.

...

...Later...

...

He's been down here for about as a good two hours and still hasn't turned up anything. With all the twists and turns he's made around here, he was getting a headache from doing this. Yeesh. Why is this so hard?!

Peter rubbed the temple of his nose, "Dang it... What am I doing?" He was close onto to giving up. He didn't know if he was going to the same places and whatnot. It was ruining his train of thought on where to go and not to. He should go home. Just forget about this whole thing. But if he turned back now, it'd make him look more of a coward. That's something he doesn't want to have on his mind.

And if he were to get this done. Then all those false reports on him would clear up. People would give him a new look and see him as someone more. Someone to rely on. More importantly, if he were to stop these crimes, then he'd make New York a safer and better place to live in. This wasn't just an act.

It's a commitment. A commitment to helping those for the future for others. No one doesn't deserve to be hurt.

"This is my chance to prove myself..." Just as he was about to turn back, he spotted rays of light at the back of the corner. While there are many things to be wary of around here, this one seemed odd.

He walked over to it and laid his hand against whatever was blocking his way. A secret entrance? He knew it! Whoever tried to cover this up was... really dumb. He used some force against it and it budged a little. Heavier than it looked. Spider-Man used his shoulder and leaned his body to it, using his enhanced strength.

The object was pushed off, a splash hitting against the ground. He crawled on the other side of the wall and was in awe when he noticed that this wasn't any other type of sewer he's been in.

Below him was a huge place of massive pillars what looked to be holding up the ground. It was an extraordinary sight to see. "Woah... Look at this place! This is so cool! I'll never take freshwater for granted again!" He exclaimed in surprise, pacing himself around the area. Dozens of multiple pipes were hanging around. It was incredible and weird to be fascinated by. "The amount of work it takes this city to run is... crazy..." What is it with this place? It's like something out of a horror movie...

He cupped his hand to his mouth, "Hellllooooo! Any goonies around here?!" Odd as it may be, but how often does someone get to echo in a really cool, secret, awesome, scary, smelly, weird hiding spot? The numbers are up there somewhere. Peter didn't know long he's been walking, but he spotted another empty depth. He peered down there and saw ventilation ducts. So he dropped another few levels down landing upon a large pipe. He webbed up to a wall by a vent. He pried it open and made his way inside. It was then he saw multiple pathways. He heavily sighed, knowing this gonna take forever... He kept crawling forward, "I wonder how long it took to build all this... Like a year or three? Maybe more?"

Spider-Man continued crawling for in the vents for a half hour. He sighed again, "Geez, this is taking forever... Am I missing something? Like seriously... This is not how I hoped it-" He stopped mid-crawl when he heard thought heard something.

...

...

Peter shrugged. Must've been himself. After all those conversations he's been having with himself, he'd think he was hearing thin-. There it was again. It was faint but he could hear it. Mumbling. Peter's eye lenses furrowed and kept crawling towards the voices.

"I'm telling you. I thought I heard someone."

"You're always hearing things. Get a grip, man."

Spider-Man kept moving forward. He saw a light on the other side of the vent. This was good. He was almost there! Soon as he made it, he peered through the eye slots and gasped. He was taken by surprise from where he was at. An abandoned subway station?

"Anything from the other members?"

"No. Guess we're stuck here for now."

Spider-Man popped open the vent gently and crawled over to a railing to have a better view. Wow... To think this can't get any weirder... There were men scrounging around here doing who knows what. One of them wer3 just playing cards. Another of them was laying back. As far as he can tell they were doing nothing.

'One... Two. Three... Seven... Ten... There are eleven of them.', Spider-Man counted, raising his hand to his chin. "Woah, this is great. I can catch them all red handed!" He whispered in eagerness. He held that back though, having to realize the current state he was in. He needed a plan. He has the element of surprise. If he could take these guys out in a moments notice, he'd remain hidden. Like those spy films, he's been watching. Yes! A good knock out to them and they're unconscious. Take them out one by one. Don't hit too hard, otherwise, it'd really make him look bad. Don't want any of that nonsense going around.

He's got it!

Hell yes.

"All too eas-" Spider-man stepped forward when he felt the weight under him gave out, causing his body to drop to the ground, along with a few other objects. "...ow. What the heck was that?! I'm not that heavy am I?!" He groaned, pulling himself up from the floor. The amount of noise he made, surely alarmed the others. This was just great. He gave another exhale, 'Should've been a faster than that...'

"Hey, who the hell are you?" A man raised a small pistol aiming towards him.

Peter immediately raised his arms up from the sight of the weapon, "I... UH! Surprise!"

"Oh shit! It's Spider-Man!" One of them realized.

"Who?"

"How'd he get here!?"

"Guy has a dumbass outfit!"

"Don't give a shit! Take him out!"

Peter inwardly groaned from the comment, 'Jeez, I get it. No need to rub it in.' Spider-Man folded his fingers on his palm, webbing up a pistol in the thug's hands. He sprung up to his feet to avoid an incoming kick from behind, then a left hook. Just as the arm passed over his head, he grabbed it, pulling over his own body, slamming the thug to the floor. He webbed his arms and legs, unable for him to escape. He blind-fired his web-shooter at someone's eye from the side as they were running towards him.

Spider-Man leaped forward on top of a subway, "Alright, you guys! Let's make it easy! You give up and come in quietly! I don't wanna have to beat you all to a pulp." His senses tingled from the side, quickly ducking down. The shot's done the firing. Spider-Man peeked to then yank the weapon from his hands and broke it in half. "Now you're in for it!" He leaped up at the thug and kicked him off a small platform.

Another hit was coming from behind. He quickly ducked from a combat knife and swept an opponents leg, falling forward, at the same time avoiding an incoming swing at him. He spun himself around to web up both of his hands together and pushed him off to the side.

His head sprung again, "Woah! My whatever senses are tingling!" Yes, he still couldn't come up with a name. Spider-Man turned around to find more goons, heavily armed. "Oh great! Even more guns!"He pressed the trigger of his web-shooters, only to realize they were cleaned out of web fluid. "Bad timing." He somersaulted over by cover to dodge the spray of bullets. Everything is moving fast. 'Okay! New plan! New plan! Er... Don't get shot! Take their guns! And don't get shot!" He nervously chuckled, having no idea what he was saying. He dug into his pockets and held up a web fluid containers, replacing the empty ones with the new ones into his web shooters. "I got this..."

The vigilante shot a web-line and swung around to catch them by surprise, but one of the thugs caught him, turning his weapon over to him, signaling his buddies on where he was at. Great. All three of them ran out of their ammo. Spider-Man used this opportunity to attack before they can load up. He jumped forward, catching them off-guard by swinging around them, dispersing a web-line and wrapped them around. After a quick few rounds, the trio of thugs struggled through the web.

Spider-Man turned around to every side. It was silent. That's a good thing right? He heavily sighed and leaned his back from the battle. "Was that it? Huh... Guess it was." It was then he winced when he felt a stinging pain on his left arm. He to find his blue sleeve was torn, a red mark on his forearm. Thankfully the bullet grazed by it. It could be worse. "Guess I have to sew this one up..."

Spider-Man looked over at the train... "Is there like a map... Some other place they were hiding?" He travels over the area until he spotted a small rolled up poster of a sort. He grasped it and unfolded it. His eye lenses widen in surprise. "A map of the entire New York Sewer System. With the Maggia markers on it? Are these the bases? No way..."

How convenient...

At a Police Station...

Captain Stacy grumbled to himself. Another night wasted. This was getting out of hand. What happened to Jefferson a few nights ago was just plain bad luck. Had it not he'd been hurt, they would've caught the criminal. They were that close! Another thing surprised him that Jefferson was actually saved from Spider-Man. Had he lose any more blood, he would've been... Spider-Man, saved one of his men?

Confusing as this is, he was still unsure what to make of the masked vigilante. Should he be thankful?

He grabbed up his coat from a stand and made his way out of the building. He was growing impatient within the hours. Just as he about to go outside, he found a small piece of paper on the other side of the door. Curious about what it was, he was on the other side of the double doors and took it in his hands.

"COURTESY OF YOUR FRIENDLY NEIGHBOURHOOD SPIDER-MAN! YOU MIGHT NEED THIS!" Written in black marker. A small arrow pointed to a rolled piece of paper taped by the side.

After unrolling it and looked over the map of the entire underground station, he didn't know if he wanted to believe it or not. Was it a trick?

"How in the hell does he know?"

The radio on his waist clicked, "This is Yuri. We've got a sitch over at the Financial District. We've found multiple of the Maggia gang around here. It looks like Spider-Man has been here... Orders Captain?"

He returned the call, "I'll be right over. And Watanabe... We may have a lead..."

Back at the Streets...

"Woo! That was awesome!" Peter inwardly cheered, stirring confusion from the pedestrians. He hurriedly jogged his way home, 'This was all I needed! I'm one step closer to putting this to a stop.' He couldn't help but be a bit proud of himself. Was it really this easy? This whole investigation gig is pretty cool! AND he caught them before the cops did. Which is weird... Wonder what's going on with them. Still couldn't figure out whatever happened to those missing officers.

Another case for another time.

Just as he turned around the corner, he accidentally bumped into someone, both landing on their rears.

He rubbed his forehead, turning to the person, "Dang... I'm really sorry about that- Gwen?"

"Peter?" His friend was also surprised. By her side were a bunch of items scattered on the floor from a bag.

"Oh geez, my bad. That was my fault..." He hurriedly helps her up on her feet and grabbed returned her items.

"It's alright." She dusted off her clothes and held her bags. "So, how's it going?"

He fumbled with his hands. Dang, this was a bad habit. "Doing well! Great! I... was just taking a stroll around here. Where were you? I mean not to be a bum or anything. It's been a bit... boring ."

The blonde composed herself from the comment, "I... Called in sick. Ate something bad at the party. By the way where were you that night?" She idly crossed her arms, drawing a raised eyebrow.

"I... My, Aunt May! Her car broke down. Had to help her out and all." He stammered out another lie. He wasn't any good at this. Nor did it feel as well.

Gwen simply nodded, "Mhm. Well, It was nice seeing you, Peter. I'll be on my way. Gotta turn these in for the night. I'll see you around tomorrow. Gonna be a pain working over those missing assignments..." She walked around him and strolled forward.

The young hero recalled back to the conversation before he left. Dang it. Why is it that there was something getting in the way of his social life? He's been a jerk to her. He should tell her, "Wait, Gwen!" The blond paused in her steps, giving him a surprised look. He rubbed his neck in hesitation, "About that night. I just want to apologize for bailing out like that, again."

She dismissively waved at him, "It's fine, really. I mean, I totally understand. Sometimes these sorts of things happen at a wrong time"

He nervously chuckled, "Yeah, you'd be surprised. "He cleared his throat, "But, what I meant to tell you was... About what I said at the party before I left." He held his breath, rubbing his wrists. Gwen leered into what he was gonna say. "I, think it would neat if you want to go... on a... date...?"

...

Peter couldn't tell from the dimmed lighting but Gwen had a bright red face. She kept herself from acting weird and regained her composure, "Yeah, that would be nice!"

"Really?"

"Yes!"

He breathed in relief. The tension being left out, "Awesome! When are you- When are you free?" He stuttered, hating himself for it.

She placed a strand of hair behind her ear, "Well, I have band practice for the next three days, so... how about over the weekend?"

"I'm down for it. Cool!

"Cool."

"Cool..." He idly wandered backward, not facing away from her. Until he realized he was going the wrong direction. "I'm... actually going that way, heh." He said, making his way around her, "I'll... see you then!" He waved good-bye to her. 'Holy what!?... I just asked her out!' This may be one of the greatest days he's ever had. -Wait a minute. What was he doing? It was the middle of the night and she was alone? The best thing he should do was make sure she gets home. 'Nah. She could take care of herself.' But then again... Peter hurried around a small alley.

The blonde strolled forwards, not even realizing a small shadow watching over her. Gwen couldn't stop herself from smiling, 'Holy what?! He just asked me out!' This may be one of the greatest days she's ever had. How about that Betty! But now what? What would they do? Where are they gonna go? Are they a couple? 'Woah, slow down there. Time will tell... Soon.'

Soon...

Done! RR if you'd like!
