[Kaito Shion]: Fairytale
My eye throbbed with pain as Meiko hugged me back, which made my face grow increasingly red. I probably looked absolutely ridiculous, but what should I care? Meiko was here, hugging me tight. When she pulled back to look at me, I couldn't tear myself away from looking at her beautiful brown eyes. They were unique because they had a sort of sharp edge to them. Like a fire that burned with passion.
"Here, here," Meiko whispers, setting the cold ice on my face once more. I feel myself tense up at the coldness, then I relax a bit. It was cold, but it was a lovely relief as well. "Kaito..." Tears were in her eyes as she spoke to me. "You're hurt..."
"Don't worry about it, Meiko," I tell her gently, giving her a third hug. It wasn't like I could ever grow tired of hugging her. Knowing she's real, and knowing she's right here in front of me, was a wonderful, wonderful thing. It was a presence I never wanted to lose. "While you're here, maybe we could work on our science project?"
"Good idea," Meiko answers, turning away to recover from her tears. I take her hand, leading her gently to my bedroom. When we were inside, I shut the door tightly. Meiko eyeballs the place, probably shocked about how much cleaner it was than everything else in this house. This God-Forsaken jail that I am forced to live in...
I awkwardly stand in my room. "Y-you could sit down, if you'd like," I tell Meiko. She carefully sits on my bed, hands in her lap. She was eyeballing a picture on my desk. It was of a blue haired woman that wore a simple white dress, a somber smile on her pale features. My mother. The woman I wished was still here for me, now more than ever.
"That's my mom," I tell her, willing myself not to start crying. "She left a while ago. Couldn't handle my father and his cold ways."
"I'm sorry," Meiko apologizes, as if this could remotely be her fault. "Both of my parents are gone. They couldn't care less about their only child. That's why I live alone in that god-forsaken apartment..." She trails off, then something snaps in her eyes. "So I brought some CDs I mixed," she automatically changes the subject. "Do you wanna use those?"
"Lets," I tell her.
About two hours later, we had listened to about twenty songs, and recorded the results of how fast our hearts beat to each song. We were getting a nice list going on, which made me pretty confident that we would get good grades on this.
"It's getting late. I think I'm gonna go home," Meiko sighs, pushing a few strands of her chocolate colored hair behind her ears. "Thanks for letting me work here. I sort of feel bad for intruding your home..."
"No!" I say hastily. "I mean... I like it when you come to visit me. I get really lonely here, and... It helps me know you care..."
I felt like a blubbering idiot, spilling out my feelings like that, but Meiko blushes with a pleasant smile on her face. She came close to me, and I to her, and we were slowly inching towards each other. Our noses were touching, and I could catch Meiko's sweet scent. Suddenly, she pulls away from me, and I wake up from my fairy tale. I was dissapointed, but I wasn't surprised.
Because with every dream comes a time where you have to wake up.
