Alright, Alfie and Amber are back! :)

Jerome's blue eyes flitted up to Mara as she walked into the dining room on a cool Saturday morning. He looked over to Alfie and he nodded with a small grin. He had planned everything, and Jerome had helped. Jerome had explained to Alfie that he wanted to do as much as he could; he wanted to make an effort for Mara, and that's exactly what he did. Alfie had given him a box of things and told him to set them up around the shed in the woods. Alfie had already decorated it. Once Jerome had finished, Alfie told him to be in the shed at six that night.

Jerome couldn't wait for that moment to come, but he was also very nervous. He didn't want to be rejected. But even if she rejected him, he'd try again. That's who he was; he didn't like losing and he was determined to win her back.

Jerome ran a hand through his dirty-blonde hair and straightened his gray blazer. Why was he so nervous?

He was about to try to get Mara Jaffray back, that's why.

This was important. He anxiously looked out the small window of the warehouse and his heart leapt into his throat when he saw Mara following Alfie through the trees a few yards away. God, she looked beautiful.

Jerome took a deep breath and forced himself to swallow his nerves. He heard the doorknob jiggle slightly and Mara stepped in a second later.

Her brown eyes landed on him and she turned around quickly. "Wait, Alfie— " she was met with a closed door. "Alfie!"

"Wait, Mara," Jerome pleaded as she went to open the door. "Just…give me a chance, please?"

"What?" she whispered, pushing a lock of her hair out of her eyes. It was curled. Jerome was beginning to miss her hair curled. It was pretty.

He licked his lips, unsure what to say.

"I'm leaving. Jerome, we're on a break."

"Jaffray, come on, please. Look, I…I don't really know what to say. I mean, I really want us to…" he sighed and Mara crossed her arms over her chest. "I never deserved you. Never mind. I'm sorry Alfie dragged you here. I thought that I could get you back, but I was wrong. You're perfect and I'm a moron. You hate me and I freaking love you more than anything. This isn't going to work out, is it? I think I always knew that. I'm such a hopeless romantic, thinking that the frog could actually be a prince. I'm too old for fairytales. And I'm a guy!" He huffed, sitting on the floor.

Mara bit her bottom lip, hugging herself. Her eyes flitted to the door and then back to him. "You love me?"

Jerome's head shot up when she spoke and saw that she hadn't moved. She wasn't leaving yet. Did he have a chance? No. He doesn't deserve one. He shrugged, suddenly a little embarrassed. What a leap; going from the guy that never showed his emotions to the guy that couldn't keep his emotions in check. Was he going to start crying? Probably. Mara Jaffray had that ability. She can bring out an entirely different person from you that you had no idea was there.

"Yeah, I do." He murmured, resting his elbows on his knees.

Mara sat down slowly and Jerome's eyes followed her movement. He stared at her, waiting, and she opened her mouth.

"Let's talk."

"Are they talking?" Amber asked, looking up at him from the computer screen.

"Yeah, I think. Mara hasn't come back yet." Alfie replied. He smiled. "I miss you, Ambs."

"I miss you too, Boo." She sighed sadly, resting her chin on the palm of her hand. "I mean, school is great! I'm learning so much and I love it. But…it's hard to be away from everyone at Anubis. They're my second family, you know? And you…you're my boyfriend. It's hard enough to be unable to see everyone else every day."

"I know what you mean." He nodded.

"Hey," she perked up a little, pulling her pink sweater's sleeves up to cover her hands. "What if you come to visit me? There's only one day of school next week right?"

"Yeah," he replied. "I'd love to visit. I have to get my parents' permission first."

"Of course," she waved that point off.

"What about Joy? She said that she wouldn't go after you, but you two seemed to really get along. I think you two make a very nice couple—"

"Mara, please stop lying." Jerome begged, taking her hand in his and entwining their fingers.

She stared at their hands and sighed. "I love you. But…I don't know if you and I are really meant to be."

"The thing is love, when two people really love each other, they might not be exactly alike but they have issues that they work through. I don't deserve you and you shouldn't take me back, but I'm willing to work for everything we had and crawl to the end of the earth for you. Please, believe me. The couples that work are the ones that'll do their best to smooth out any ripples in the relationship, even if their might still be some scars."
