Trixie discovers Turnadette. AU ficlet. Sister Mannion working as a midwife after the sanatorium.

"Doctor Turner."

"Nurse Franklin."

"Are you finished for today?"

"Not quite." He smiled embarrassed. "Do you know where…Nurse Mannion went?"

"Shelagh? I think she went to the garden."

"Thank you. Thank you, Trixie." He flashed a smile at her and hurried out of the room.

Trixie stood there staring after him. What had bitten that man? Trixie. First names weren't totally out of use, but Doctor Turner had usually kept up the professional standards even with this. During work hours, no undue familiarity. It unnerved the patients.

She thought it might be a bit cold outside for Shelagh who was still a convalescent. Wouldn't it be better for them to take care of whatever business she had with Doctor Turner inside? She put the kettle on and when the tea was ready she went to the door to invite them to tea.

At the threshold, she was frozen. She heard Shelagh's laughter. Doctor Turner's voice had a gruff quality and he seemed not to talk of the doses of erythromycin. They were….having an intimate conversation.

Trixie withdrew to the kitchen in silence. Who would have thought? Even she, the Queen of Matchmakers wouldn't have thought this. She felt she had been beaten in her own game. Yet she felt…good. Odd.
