Pen stiffened next to Derek. She stepped away from him but he held onto her hand, forcing her back to his side. Tamara looked at Pen then dismissed her and then looked at Derek with hunger in her eyes.
"Tamara."
"It's good to see you. I've been waiting for your call."
"I'm not trying to be rude but if I haven't called you in two months then that most likely means I won't."
"I thought you hadn't worked out your problems yet."
"I have and everything is fine now." He said. "If you will excuse us."
He pulled Pen behind him and walked in. he went to their usual table but instead of sitting across from her he sat beside her. They looked at the menu but nothing appealed to Pen. She kept thinking about what Tamara had said. The waitress came and he ordered some vegetable soup with half a turkey sandwich and a sandwich with fries for him. Pen put her head on his shoulder.
"You haven't talked to her in two months?"
"No. I haven't since that day I realized what happen between us. I had to fix things between us before I did anything else. She's called me but I haven't answered. I don't want a relationship with her. I thought I did but then I realized I didn't."
Their food came and she ate what she could and took the rest home. They went back to Derek's and she went to his room to take a nap. An hour later she was in the bathroom hugging the toilet. Derek heard her from downstairs and rushed up to her. He held her hair and then got a glass of water ready for her. He had asked his mom to pick up her meds on her way home. Pen cleaned up and Derek led her back to the bed. After she laid down he crawled into bed with her and pulled her back against him. He kissed the top of her head and she sighed. They both soon fell asleep.
Fran came into the house and everything was quiet. She went up to Derek's room and found both asleep wrapped in each other's. She smiled and then closed the door. She had prayed that they would get back on track but she also knew that they had a long way to go. She went down to make her plans to go back home. They needed time together without her there. She booked her flight for Sunday and called Sarah with her plans. Sarah was full of questions but she didn't answer any. She said it was Derek's place to answer them. She was cooking dinner when Derek came down.
"Hey mom, what are you cooking?"
"Oh something that Pen might be able to eat. Her medicine is on the counter. So how are things between you two?"
"We talked about something's but we still have a lot to talk about. I just need her back to the way we were. I've come to realize how much I love her and want her to be with me. She thinks I'm only saying these things because she's pregnant. I know how her mind works. But I would want to be with her whether she was pregnant or not. That night we slept together I thought she was still with Lynch. I didn't know that she had broken up with him. I still don't know why but I am glad she did."
"He asked me to marry him and I couldn't. I couldn't marry him when my heart belong to someone else." He turned to see her standing in the doorway to the kitchen. He walked toward her and wiped the tear on her cheek. "That's why I was drinking because I knew you would never feel that way about me."
"Oh baby girl." He whispered. "When I told you I loved you after you got shot I meant it. I don't think you understood. Then Kevin came along and everything changed."
"I'm sorry."
"No baby girl, don't be sorry."
He pulled her into his arms and Fran looked at them and smiled. She knew her job her was done. She turned to the stove and took out the chicken and rolls. She went to set the table while they held onto each other. They pulled away when Fran told them that dinner was ready. They ate making small talk and then Fran brought up news.
"I've book a flight for Sunday. I've already called Sarah and told her to pick me up."
Pen stop at eating and looked at Derek. He stared back and then looked at his mom.
"It's time I go but I will be back. Pen you're getting better and you have Derek and everyone else from the team here."
"Well then mom let me tell you the news." He said. "Pen and I are expecting twins January 1st."
"What? Twins."
They both nodded and then she was up hugging Pen and then Derek. She was so happy. She was finally getting her grandbabies she wanted from Derek. She sat back down.
"Now I expect you take good care of my daughter and grandbabies Derek Morgan or you will regret it."
"I will, you can count on that."
After dinner Pen fell asleep on the sofa so Derek carried her to bed. She slept with wrapped around Derek and he was content. He woke up hearing her in the bathroom. He ran downstairs for ginger ale and her medicine. She was sitting on the bed when he came back in. he handed her the tablets and then the drink. He squatted down in front of her.
"Feel better."
"A little. The nausea is still there. I'm sorry, I didn't meant to stay here."
"Shhh baby girl, I want you here. Now how about we try to get some sleep but do you want to change first into one of my shirts."
She nodded and then went to his dresser and grabbed one of his FBI shirts and changed. Then crawled into bed but instead of sleeping he started talking.
"P we need to discuss some things." She nodded so he continued. "When do you want to tell the team?"
"Hotch and Rossi already know about the babies. I don't want to tell anyone else until I pass the first trimester. Which isn't that long anyway."
"That's fine but what are you going to do about your morning sickness."
"When I feel nauseated I can take the pills and hope they work."
"Ok and what about us?"
"Is there an us or are just best friends having babies together?"
"P stop. There is an us and we're best friends having babies. There is no one or the other. We are both. Don't you ever forget it?"
She smiled in the dark and kissed his bare chest. "What else do you want to talk about?"
"Where were you for those two weeks?"
She swallowed before she answered. "In Chicago."
She felt him tense then relax. "You went home to momma."
"Yes, I didn't know where else to go. I asked her not to tell you anything. Don't be mad at her. She knew something was wrong when I showed up at her door crying. I told her it was because I broke up with Kevin. She didn't know anything until you told her what was going on."
"I'm not mad at either of you. How did you keep it a secret from Sarah and Des?"
"I hid when they came around. I didn't want anyone to know. So she helped me."
"I'm glad she was there for you but promise no matter what happens between us that you will never run away again. Please. I couldn't take it."
"I promise. I'm sorry that I did that."
"I understand why you did it but please never again." He said. "I want you to move in with me."
"What?"
"I want you to move in with me. I mean I know there are something's not right between us but I want you with me all the time. You might think this is rushed but please I need to know you are ok and safe, that all three of you are safe and ok."
"Are you sure? I don't want you to regret anything. I'm not pushing you for any commitment."
"I know you haven't asked for anything. I'm sure and I'm making a commitment to you and our babies."
"Can I think about it?"
"Sure, take all the time you need."
She wanted to say yes so bad but she need to think about what moving in meant. She fell asleep with Derek rubbing her back and her hand on her chest.
