"Son of a bitch!" Dakota's armor flashed with green as Ion took control and activated the failsafe. He was a little too slow, as the failsafe activated right after the hunters hammer connected with her armor a second time. Ion scrambled to protect his freelancer, even as her armor locked up in midair. The force of a two ton super soldier hitting the ground was strong enough to kill an enemies within a 5 foot radius, and stun any enemies within a 15 foot range. When Dakota hit the ground, Utah looked over at the two white Spartans. "That's going to hurt later."
Together they mad their way over to her, Cali and Cole putting their energy swords to good use. Utah's assault rifle made short work of the grunts, leaving the jackals to the energy swords. The elites advanced towards Dakota, who's armor had unlocked as she regained consciousness. The first elite to approach decided to lean over her from the side, leaving himself open for an attack.
The elite growled in her face, not realizing that Dakota was fully functional. Before it could pull away, Dakota reached up and snapped its neck. Pushing the dead body off of her, Dakota shakily stood up, retrieving her battle rifle from where it fell. Her armor was smoking slightly when Dakota's team moved up beside her, guns and swords at the ready.
Each group waited for the other to make a move, until the elites got restless and charged. With the two white Spartans upfront, Dakota and Utah made short work of the elites shields. "Frag!" Utah called out while tossing said grenade over Cali and Cole. They activated their armor enhancements just before the grenade exploded, taking out the remaining elites; letting the shards bounce off of their shields.
Out of the smoke came a fresh group of 6 elites armed with energy swords. Two of the silver elites attacked the two white freelancers while the other 4 silver and gold elites attacked Utah and Dakota. Utah moved off to give Dakota the room she needed to fight off her elites, fending off the elites while moving.
Returning her attention to the elites attacking her, Dakota dodged the silver elites sword and kicked it backwards onto Colorado's blade by accident. Flashing him a quick Spartan smile, Dakota tossed her battle and sniper rifles toward the cliff that she came down and activated her energy sword. "Sword fights… So not my thing."
The Spartan and the elite circled before Dakota charged at the elite. It deflected her attack and pressed on with an attack of its own. While Dakota kept the elites energy sword at bay, she knew that the elite was far stronger and more trained with the sword than she was. When the elite pulled away only to slash at her abdomen, Dakota cussed and jumped away before returning to her deadly brawl.
Utah had gotten herself trapped in a corner, but was holding her own until one of the elites managed to cut her from the inside of her wrist up to her elbow. Utah cried out, more from shock than from pain, then the military training kicked in. Dropping her energy sword, which was her extra weapon, Utah snagged the battle rifle off of her back and by firing a few rounds at their torso, dropped their shields. Releasing the rifle, Utah kicked her sword up and activated it before slaughtering the elites. When Utah looked up, she saw something she wished she could un-see and never see again.
Dakota was pinned to the ground by a golden elite, much like the one Utah just killed above her, forcing its energy sword closer and closer to her throat. Both of the white freelancers were occupied by their own attacking elites, and Utah knew her battle rifle wouldn't reach across the distance between them, so she sprinted for Dakota, leaving the rifle behind.
From her position, Utah noticed that Dakota wasn't struggling with her entire body, but instead using her energy to keep the energy sword away from her neck. Utah was still too car away to do anything when the energy sword finished cutting through Dakota's chest armor and started to burn and cut into her skin.
Dakota didn't have to wait much longer to be released from underneath the elites energy sword. Down from the sky landed a heavily armored purple and green male Spartan, who proceeded to yank the elite off Dakota and unleash the entire clip of his assault rifle into its open mouth.
Dakota looked up at him, completely confused from the lack of oxygen. Without warning, the Spartan turned and fired his sniper rifle at a charging suicide grunt. Returning his attention to the female beside him, he knelt down. "You need to get up, we have to retreat." Dakota reached up and grasped his hand, so the Spartan stood up and pulled Dakota up to her feet.
"Who… Who are you?" Dakota asked as soon as she caught her breath.
"There's time for that later. Get moving North!" A green and orange Spartan ordered, looking and sounding oddly familiar. There wasn't a chance to say anything to him, as 'North' basically dragged Dakota back to blue base.
Later that night, once the reds and blues dispersed, Dakota found the two unknown Freelancers who had helped her talking in the living room area with out their helmets. "… I cant tell her yet Kent. I don't even know if it's Kitiara. There are other freelancers with colors similar to hers."
"I'm telling you North, it's her. I would know, I was there the day when she got her armor. Oh.. Hey Dakota." Said female Spartan stepped in the room, then nodded to the green and orange Spartan. "What do you want to know?"
"Who the hell are you?"
The purple and green Spartan was the first one to recover from the shock of how rude Dakota was being. "Former Agent North Dakota of Project Freelancer, Generation 1. You'll meet my sister Former Agent South Dakota eventually." He offered his hand, and Dakota shook it after a few seconds. Turning to the other Spartan, she found him glancing from her to the other North, able to compare them-Dakota had left her helmet where she had woken up.
"Generation 2, Current Agent Kent-"
"Kentucky." Dakota finished for him. She smirked at his face, apparently he didn't expect her to recognize him. "Hello Kenny."
Dakota glanced over at North, then sighed. "Current Agent North Dakota, known for my skill with the sniper rifle. Generation 2." She looked at Kentucky, "Last I heard, the planet where you were stationed blew up."
Kenny cleared his throat, "That may or may not have been me." When Dakota continued to look at him, he confessed. "Okay, Okay. I blew up Eosista. That's where he found me- floating in space, thinking 'I just blew up a fucking planet!' I had no choice though."
Dakota smiled at him, she knew that type of decision. "There's someone else Id like you two to meet tonight, if you haven't already met the rest of the team. Come on out Ion." Ion appeared above Dakota's shoulder, his little hologram flickering with green. "This is Ion, my AI."
"Greeting's Agents North Dakota and Kentucky."
"Holy shit, he's actually being nice. That's a first. He's not even nice to the Director. More than once he has cussed the Director out." Dakota smirked at Ion, because everytime he got started on one of his rants, it became extremely funny.
"I can be polite Kitiara. I just choose not to be. Especially with that asshole in charge." Everybody smiled, but North's mind was reeling.
"Goodnight boys." Ignoring their replies, Dakota walked out of the room, heading back towards the room where she woke up to pick up her helmet, then she headed out to the roof. Ion was silent as she paced around the roof. 'Ion, where do I know them from? Kentucky, I remember from a mission.' She continued to pace around the roof, keeping an eye out for any approaching covvies, while Ion scanned her memories. Dakota usually kept the memories from her childhood hidden, but she let Ion have access to them. 'Anything yet?'
'Not with Kentucky. I found something with Agent North thought.'
