A/N : I know I haven't posted to this story for a long time but I knew it needed to be finished. I won't give any lame excuses because you deserve better than that. So, without further delay the epilogue.
Chapter 9: Epilogue, a Prelude to the FutureThe blight is now a part of Ferelden history. Even though the battle for Denerim, the capital city, ravaged the streets, the rebuilding began immediately and was ready for the royal wedding six months after Alistair's coronation. There was a total of six months of holding court and making wedding arrangements. Now it was Denerium's turn to take a breath. The wedding ceremony was beautiful. Amiee was in her Cousland blue wedding gown and Alistair was in his royal armor. King Alistair was waiting in the study for his queen and wife Amiee Cousland-Theirin. He is usually happy to see her but there is a decision that he must make. The First Warden has requested that he or Amiee assume the role of Warden Commander. This wasn't a choice he was going to make without her counsel but with him knowing her so well he was pretty sure he knew that advice was going to be. Amiee entered the room with the confident stride of a warrior but also with the poise and grace of a royal.
"Maker, it is I am happy to see you love." Alistair said getting up and taking her hand. He kissed her knuckles as they sat down on the sofa. She could feel how nervous he was and it set her on edge.
"You've heard something that is bothering you. What's going on?" Amiee said curiously.
"I received a request from the First Warden at Weisshaupt." He said pulling out the missive and handing it to her. She started reading it.
"So it's not enough that we stopped the Blight." She said as a frown formed on her face.
"I know love. That is the first thing I thought to but being a warden is usually a lifetime commitment." Alistair said trying to gauge his wife's reaction.
"I understand that. What they have to understand is how hard we had to fight to get here. Not to mention the sacrifices we both made. Didn't we earn the right to be left alone until our trip to the Deep Roads?" Amiee said standing up and throwing the missive on the coffee table. Alistair understood her reaction because he felt the same way.
"I understand how you feel but as you know they just know that they need someone to fill the position." He said standing up walking over to her. He knew how upset she was because he felt her taint churning. She turned around to face.
"Alistair, it's not like we were going to totally give up our warden duties. We would have been supportive from here. I guess that doesn't matter now. This means the obvious choice would be me right?" Amiee said with a sigh. She knew Alistair couldn't give up his throne after they fought so hard at the Landsmeet to secure it for him.
"Maker, we have to sacrifices some of our future for this. Well, at least you will be the Arlessa of Amaranthine." He said with a small smile as he looked at her.
"Great, like I needed yet another title. The only title I like having is Alistair's wife." She said wrapping her hands around his waist laying her head on his chest. Alistair put his arms around her. They stayed that way for a short while. Amiee knew she had to move before she talked herself out of what needed to be done. She picked up the missive to see when she would have to report to Amaranthine. The missive stated that she had be there as soon as she could due to the roving war band of darkspawn on the Ferval Plains.
"When should we leave, my dear?" Alistair asked nonchalantly.
"Why do you need to go, love?" Amiee asked curiously. She would love to have him fighting at her side again but knew he really couldn't risk his life foolishly.
"I need to check on the bannorn so I will start there." Alistair explained.
"I will agree if you let we arrive before you to make sure it is safe." Amiee said as a counter offer.
"I will accept that if you take Mhari with you as a new recruit. Her skills are quite impressive." He said arching his eyebrow at her.
"Done. We should leave in about a week then." Amiee said putting the missive back on the desk. She started to get that weight of the world feeling back on her shoulders as she walked out of the study. Alistair saw this and knew he wasn't going to like this either but he also knew they could face whatever lay ahead as long as they did it together.
A/N: Hoped you liked it. I am thinking about doing a multi chapter post blight post awakenings story. Let me know what you think. I have got a whole bunch written already.
