Chapter 9
Glinda blinks her eyes as she watches Fiyero hit the ground. Out of all the people to faint he wasn't high on her list of people fainters. She swallows hard as she goes from the unconscious prince, she will wake him up soon, to the still staring Elphaba. Tears go to her eyes at finally seeing her in person instead of just reading about her.
"Elphie…"She says breathlessly as she starts to walk towards her. The green woman is breathing heavily while she watches the blonde goddess getting closer to her. She doesn't know what to feel at this moment. Joy, happiness, fear, uncertainty, confusion and anger. All those emotions are swirling around inside of her head that she can't get a grasp on just one. She inhales deeply as Glinda stops in front of her and reaches forward to touch her face.
"Elphie, I…."
Elphaba pulls away from the inviting touch, a part of her is screaming at her to just accept it, and looks down at her with confusion. If the blonde has been alive this whole time then why hasn't she contacted her, to tell her that she is alive instead of letting her wallowing in her grief and depression.
"You're alive?" Elphaba asks in a quiet voice. Glinda pauses in her reach and retracts it back to her chest with a sigh. She should have been ready for this. She should have known better that this reunion would be sunshine and butterflies or tears of joy enhanced by kisses. This is Elphaba she is talking about.
"I am." The good witch answers while rubbing her hands together. She is nervous that this will quickly turn into an argument because the green woman doesn't understand the whole situation yet.
"And you didn't bother to tell me?" Elphaba continues as her voices goes up with an inflection. Her temper is starting to show and take a hold of her. She doesn't understand why she didn't know. She has been mourning this woman in front of her for over a month and not one hint of her being alive was sent to her. Glinda stands tall as she can and flips her hair behind her with her left hand. Elphaba notices this but puts it in the back of her mind. She is starting to get too mad to bring up why she used her left hand instead of her right.
"I was busy wi-"
The good witch was cut off with a scoff as the green woman puts her hands on her hips. What was so important to her that she couldn't send one, little letter to her or better yet, show up in person. She wouldn't be so angered at this moment. Glinda breathes sharply through her nose; she will not let this get her riled up because it will get them nowhere if they start yelling at each other.
"Busy with what?! You couldn't have found one minute to tell me you're alive instead you let me mourn you while you're running off doing Oz knows what." The raven haired beauty interjects as the fire flares up in her brown eyes. The good witch opens her mouth to respond while keeping her own temper in line. Elphaba is not letting her get one word in. Ooh, this woman can get under her skin at times and she knows what buttons to push to get her going
"Ladies! Please hold the argument until later. Glinda, Calypso still needs our help." Prince interrupts as he uses his leg to help Fiyero up into a sitting position. Glinda looks towards the Horse and nods her head. He is right. They are here to do a rescue mission. She casts a glance towards the seething, green woman. Their talk will have to wait. Elphaba's eyes narrow towards Prince. He knew about Glinda being alive and didn't say anything as well. She can't believe any of this right now.
"Right, I saw the campus as I came in from the sky. It's one of the smaller Animal camps and I think the four of us can do it with some magic." The blonde shifts into strategist mode. She just hopes that Elphaba will listen to what she has to say and her feelings won't interfere with the plan. Fiyero stands up and fixes his clothing before looking to her with a smile, no betrayal in his eyes. He is just happy to know his good friend isn't truly dead.
"Glinda, what do we need to do?" He asks because he knows the two of them will catch up latter. Glinda sends him a grateful look while smiling to show her apperception. She cast a glance to her former lover but the green woman looks away with her jaw line tightening up. The good witch gives a hard swallow before looking towards Fiyero and Prince. This gets better and better with each second.
"Ok, like I said this is one of the Wizard's smaller camps. He must use it as a stopping point to one of the bigger camps. I only counted five soldiers excluding the three I just took down. So if we split up in pairs of two we can take them down with magic and brute strength." Glinda tells her plan on what they need to do to take this camp down. She just hopes Elphaba will work with her. The Winkie prince and Prince nod their heads in understanding. Fiyero motions the Horse to follow him and the two quickly run off towards the opposite side of the camp to find a good position, leaving the two witches alone.
Elphaba wants to kick him right in the ass for running off so fast. She casts to Glinda before turning her back and starts walking the opposite way. She doesn't have anything to say to her. The raven haired beauty listens to quicken footsteps following her.
"Elphie."
Elphaba stops on a dime at hearing her nickname spoken by the good witch. She leans her head back slightly to keep her tears from falling. Her heart is hurting so much right now that she can't handle this.
"Don't…not now." She says with her voice thick with emotions. Glinda stands behind her with her left hand just hovering over a shoulder before she silently withdraws it. Her eyes move back and forth before she walks ahead with her eyes trained forward. She might start crying if she looks at the green woman when she walked past her. She must keep herself focused on saving Calypso. Elphaba wrings her hands before inhaling deeply then starts walking after her former lover. She hopes she can get through this without breaking down.
Glinda comes up to a big, white tent and quiets her footsteps as she follows it to the edge. She holds her hand up to tell the woman behind her to stop while she takes a peek to get a better scope of the layout. Elphaba notices that the blonde used her left hand again but she knows that Glinda is right handed. What happened to her? The good witch doesn't pay attention to what is happening behind her as her eyes scan the area before her. She sees Calypso in a metal cage with one guard standing beside her. Two guards are chatting casually by the fire and the other two are cleaning their guns. She sees Fiyero and Prince silently sneaking up on those two. She prays that two will not be seen.
"You still know magic?" Glinda asks in a hush tone as she pulls back, getting ready to fight. She just hopes her right arm will hold out. Elphaba gets up behind the blonde and cautiously looks out. Glinda inhales deeply at the close proximity the green woman is to her. Oh, how she misses the scent of sandalwood that comes off of the green woman's body and the warmness of her body pressed against hers even though she thinks that it is unintentional. Glinda just hopes their relationship is salvageable. She frowns slightly when the green woman pulls away from her and starts to walk out.
"Of course, I still do. Now let's do this." Elphaba answers with a huff. She has never been patient. Glinda rolls her eyes as she walks out with her. There is the Elphaba she knows. The guards by the fire notice them and they quickly pull out their guns before pointing at the two witches. They hesitate to fire when they notice who is standing before them.
"Lady Glinda?" One of the guards asks in shock. The good witch swallows hard and lifts her right arm to use magic, out of instinct, but the sharp pain forces her to stop mid movement with a wince. Glinda holds her right arm to her chest with a huff of pain. Elphaba gives her a weird look.
"Glinda?"
The blonde breathes sharply through her nose and moves her left arm instead, ignoring the concern in the green woman's voice. She can't let them fire off their rounds. The two guards go flying backwards just as Fiyero jump on the next two guards. Prince uses his hoof and hits one of the guards on top of the head as Fiyero gives a nice punch to other guard. In the slight chaos Elphaba notices the last guard has left his post and she can't find him.
"Elphaba, look out!"
There is a loud bang and searing pain hits the green woman right across her right shoulder. She gives a hiss of her pain while she clutches her shoulder as she goes to her knees in pain. Glinda's eyes darken in anger and she twirls towards where she head the gun go off. The guard's eyes go wide in fear when he sees fire streaming out of the good witch's hand and it is head right towards him. Glinda promised herself that Elphaba would not get hurt. The screams of pain fall deaf on her ears as the guard burns. She turns towards Fiyero and Prince; both are wide eye in shock at Glinda harming another person. That is not like her at all.
"Get Calypso." She commands. The two get out of their stupor and run towards the cage where the female Horse is held in. She closes her eyes only to inhale deeply to get control of herself. She knows she lost it when she saw Elphaba go to her knees. She was just scared that she lost the green woman before the two of them could reconcile. The good witch opens her eyes and looks towards her former lover and sees blood staying her hand as Elphaba keeps pressure on the wound. The raven haired beauty is just thankful the bullet grazed her arm instead of penetrating her flesh. Maybe seeing Glinda alive made his aim unreliable.
The blonde kneels beside her and touches her non injured shoulder for comfort but Elphaba turns her head away while pulling her shoulder away from the touch. She is still hurting emotionally from finding out that Glinda is alive. The good witch pulls her hand away with a sigh. She looks up to the sky with one tear rolling down her face. She just hopes that time will heal all their wounds.
Annnnddd….there is part one of the reunion for the two women. Did you see what Glinda has done? It is defiantly something that the old Glinda wouldn't have done but she looks like she has changed a bit from all of her experiences. What will happen between Glinda and Elphaba in the next chapter? Well, you have to wait until next week Saturday to find out. Cue evil laughter. Lol. Until then!
