Takes place right after the previous chapter, in which we chronicled the first morning back, and the inclusion of Chamomile into the cool girl group.
This takes place at the same day the last four chapters took place, so the news of Marcy's transformation hasn't spread. This is the chapter where this is initially discovered.
Also. Next chapter is gonna be more John and Becky.
Josh was on his way to Marcy's house, as it was his job to deliver the homework and other items she would have collected during the day. He stopped, having run into Chamomile.
"Hey thanks for coming along!" She yelled, hanging out with the popular girls still. They clamoured, but Chamomile explained her way out of any issue.
Josh scootered his way home, carrying his shoulder bag full of items he may need throughout his journey. Best to be prepared.
He soon came to the corner, turning right. He continued down this road until getting to the more residential backroads, about 6 minutes. For a trip such as this, a bicycle would be faster, but Josh liked how he could fold the scooter up and tuck it into his bag. It was still heavy, but it fit.
He knocked on the door. Josh had to wait a bit before the door was answered.
"Oh hello." Marcy's mother said.
"Afternoon Mrs. Parker." Josh said. "Came to deliver her work."
"Oh right..." Mrs. Parker said, forgetting for a second what had happened to Marcy. "You can keep a secret right?"
"Why?" Josh asked.
Mrs. Parker looked, seeing no-one else. "Come in." She said. Josh did so.
"Why are we going in?" Josh asked.
"Something happened to Marcy." Mrs. Parker said.
Josh seemed worried. "Did she?"
Mrs. Parker interrupted. "Oh she's not dead!"
Josh sighed in relief.
"Something else happened." Mrs. Parker said. "Want to go see?"
Josh nodded. The two of them walked to Marcy's room.
"Something else." Mrs. Parker said. "She got a Rockruff."
"That the thing?" Josh asked to be sure.
"No." Mrs. Parker replied. "They're getting along well though."
Meanwhile...
"I think I feel a bit better..." Marcy said.
"Yeah right." Alexandria said.
Rocky was chasing his tail.
"Least Rocky does..." Marcy replied, weaker than her last statement.
"So what should we do?" Alexandria asked.
"Well I will have work to do." Marcy replied. "You could do that."
"Wait..." Alexandria said, thinking.
"What is it?!" Rocky yelled.
"Josh was supposed to come over, wasn't he?" Alexandria asked.
Marcy whimpered a bit.
"Well chances are your mother will have explained it." Alexandria replied reassuringly.
This did not please Marcy as much as Alexandria would have hoped.
"Welp." Alexandria said. "Either way, Josh is gonna know, may as well accept it."
Marcy reluctantly agreed, though she would not like it.
The door cracked open a bit. The three Pokemon jumped.
"Marcy?" Mrs. Parker asked.
"What is it Mom?" Marcy said weakly.
Alexandria made her presence known to Josh.
"Oh hey." Josh said. "Isn't that that Sneasel that Marcy takes work home for?"
Mrs. Parker nodded.
"What's she doing out?" Josh asked.
"Part of what happened to Marcy." Mrs. Parker noted. Alexandria began penning down the interpretation of Marcy's words.
"You've got a visitor!" Mrs. Parker noted.
"Come in!" Marcy said reluctantly.
Alexandria invited the duo in.
Mrs. Parker went in, followed by Josh, Josh going quite slow in the matter.
"Where is she?" Josh asked initially. Marcy reared her head, barking. Alexandria let out a small laugh. Josh was confused.
"Yeah..." Mrs. Parker said.
Josh was silent.
"She's a Pokemon now..." Mrs. Parker noted. "I didn't believe it myself at first..."
Josh looked doubtfully at Mrs. Parker. "Really." He said, same doubt in his voice as on his face.
Alexandria seemed to back Mrs. Parker up. Rocky was distracted at the moment.
Josh looked back at the Shinx. "If you say so..." Josh was just going to play along.
"Fine enough." Mrs. Parker replied.
"Anyways, here's the papers." Josh said, handing them over to Alexandria, due to Marcy being sick. "She any better?"
Mrs. Parker shrugged. "Powers are coming in hard though."
Alexandria got to penning down something. Josh waited until she was done.
"Kid nearly fried Rocky." Alexandria had written.
"Interesting..." Josh said.
"You want to stick around a bit?" Mrs. Parker asked.
"I've got to get back." Josh said.
"I'm sure your parents won't mind." Mrs. Parker added. "It's not like you ever had any interest in Marcy anyways."
Josh conceded that point, but insisted he had to go. Mrs. Parker insisted for him to stay again.
"Fine." Josh said. "But you're taking me back."
"That's fine." Mrs. Parker said. "Alexandria can take care of a sick one and a pup, can't she?"
Alexandria nodded, she could, however reluctantly.
Josh and Mrs. Parker went to chat in the kitchen.
"So um..." Josh asked. "What really happened?"
"I don't know. I came to check on her and she was like that one time." Mrs. Parker noted.
"Any ideas how it could have happened?" Josh asked, muttering an "if it did" under his breath.
Mrs. Parker shrugged. "I refer back to the first thing"
Josh had no idea how to respond, so he just shrugged. He began to play with his hair a bit, a very dark brown.
"So um." Josh said. "Can we head back now, if you have nothing else to talk about?"
"Well it's gonna be warmer Thursday." Mrs. Parker commented. "Your type like that, right?"
"You mean young people?" Josh asked confusedly. "That's kinda just opinions. Person to person stuff."
"Ah." Mrs. Parker replied.
"Also I'm not the sun and warm type, unless it's swimming or something, I burn easily." Josh noted.
"Interesting." Mrs. Parker replied, not really caring too much, but hey, her question was answered. "Want some food?"
"Well um..." Josh said, not expecting that. "Sure."
"You didn't seem too excited about that." Mrs. Parker noted.
"Just unexpected Miss." Josh replied, trying to sound more composed.
"Well what might you want?" Mrs. Parker asked. Josh elected to take a look himself. Josh walked to the kitchen, noting its small size, digging through the fridge. He had encountered various leftovers.
"How about these french fries?" Josh asked. Mrs. Parker suggested adding something else.
"Well if you want me to have more, I guess I can make myself a hot dog or something." Josh said, Mrs. Parker nodding approvingly. Josh proceed to make this early dinner.
"So.." Josh said. "What are you going to do about Marcy if she is actually a Shinx like you say?"
"Well I was going to send her and Alexandria as a pair." Mrs. Parker said. "She already does the work, so Alexandria will just have to double it. Or get Marcy a scribe, she can still talk."
"Scribes would work." Josh said. "Maybe she can make a human friend like that Oshawott and her friend."
"Could work." Mrs. Parker said. "Would have to get that set up though..."
"Ever thought about sending Alexandria for real?" Josh asked. "I mean with Marcy like that supposedly."
"Well..." Mrs. Parker replied, any doubts about sending Alexandria now being true of Marcy, minus the being able to speak human part. "She still can't talk."
"Fair point." Josh said. "But she can write."
Mrs. Parker seemed rather worried about the pair. "But what if they get squished or whatever?"
"Well that Oshawott goes there, she's fine." Josh noted.
Mrs. Parker nodded in agreement.
"And with Helen's predicament..." Josh said. "She won't be the only one made fun of for that regard."
"Made fun of?" Mrs. Parker asked.
"Well of course." Josh said. "I mean it's a bunch of people my age. Some people will look for any excuse to make fun of people for being different, ya know?"
Mrs. Parker seemed to understand.
"You're pretty adult to see that." The mother replied. Josh seemed embarrassed by this. Instead of saying anything, Josh took his stuff out of the microwave and toaster oven respectively. He put ketchup and mustard on his hot dog, and had some mustard to use as a dip for his fries. He then put the two dips away. Josh started with the hot dog.
Mrs. Parker seemed approving of the niceness of Josh.
15 minutes later...
Having finished his small meal, Josh put the plate in the sink, packing up to go.
"Thanks for coming over." Mrs. Parker replied.
Josh nodded, opening up the door as to say goodbye to Marcy and Alexandria. Alexandria waved, Marcy grinned a small bit.
Another short time later...
Deciding to go see Helen, Josh had scooted over there. It'd be best to let the other transformation victim know. Josh knocked on the door, seeing the mildly annoyed father come in.
"What'cha want kid." The father, Roland, said.
"I wanted to see Helen. I had news for her." Josh said, mildly afraid of Roland Marcais.
"What kind of news?" Roland asked.
"Pokemon news." Josh replied.
Roland squinted. "Fine. I'll tell her you're here." Josh waited for Helen to come out, which took a few minutes.
"Hi." Helen said, still using her cane. "What's this news?"
"Can we go to your room?" Josh asked.
"Well okay." Helen said. "Private news?"
Josh nodded. The two went to Helen's room, on the other end of the house from the kitchen. Once there, Josh shut the door.
"So what is it?" Helen asked.
"Marcy got transformed, supposedly." Josh told Helen quietly.
"Really?" Helen replied. "Wow..."
"Feral one too." Josh said.
"She still sick?" Helen asked. Josh nodded. "Anything else?" She asked.
"Not really." Josh replied. "Just wanted to let you know that. Just don't tell anyone okay?"
"Fine enough." Helen replied with a weak smile, tail wagging a bit from having someone come over to say hi. She didn't notice this, however. "Bye!"
Josh nodded, waving. He snuck out, not having Roland notice. He then started scooting home.
Bit of a shorter chapter, but I couldn't think of anything to extend the conversation further between Marcy's mom and Josh.
