Author's Note: Sorry for the shorter chapter, next one will be longer!
Give me a call
Just give me a call, I miss you
You know I really do
wooh, whenever you're gone
My brain felt a little faint, and after taking a short moment to gather my bearrings, I answered.
"Uhm, not exactly. But I know someone you know." I said, not wanting to cause attention from other shoppers. He raised a noble eyebrow at that but remained quiet. Then he finished checking out my things and said without looking at me "Meet me out front in 10 minutes."
Ten minutes later, an impatient Caius came out of the sliding doors and made a beeline towards me. He kind of walked like someone who had an umbrella up their butt. He also seemed to be scowling constantly. What a fun guy.
"Who is it that you know? Speak now, mortal, for time is something I hate to waste. " He hissed, crossing his arms over his chest while glaring at me like an angry child.
"It's Aro. I got to know him about two months ago, and now we are sort of…roommates." I explained, crossing my arms over my chest too but only because I was getting cold. Caius looked confused.
"Aro. You mean to say that you and he share living space? Together?" he asked, looking mildly horrified. I started scowling back.
"Yes, together. Why, is that a difficult concept to grasp? You do know what a roommate is don't you? Hell, you guys all lived under the same roof for god know's how long." I said, knowing that maybe sarcasm wasn't the key to a safe conversation with someone who probably had no reservations against tearing me apart at the middle like fresh garlic bread. What the hell, I had never been very good at keeping my mouth shut anyway. Then something else came to mind that I had to ask.
"How is it you're here? And working at tesco?" I asked, tilting my head like a confused puppy.
At first it seemed like he was going to give me the silent treatment, but then he sighed long sufferingly and said "If you must know, I simply woke up in this…children's playground and quickly discovered that I was no longer in Italy, an older man was trying to steal my shoes and that I'm apparently a "fictional" character from a book directed at sappy young females. Then, as I had no money to get myself a proper accommodation, I took on the first job that I was offered. " He muttered disdainfully. Geez, poor guy. I stretched out my hand to give him a comforting pat on the shoulder but he gave me a withering glance that told me not to. I shrugged and put both hands in my pockets.
"So, have you met any other members from the volturi here?" I asked, it didn't seem impossible at this point. But he shook his head and replied "no, not as such, which is why I would like you to show me to Aro as soon as possible." I nodded.
"Right, of course. Do you want to tag along now or-"
"No, my shift does not end until 6 o' clock. "He said in a very matter of fact way and turned up his nose. Despite the way he spoke of his job, I think he secretly enjoyed it.
"Okay, want me to write down directions or.." I fumbled, when Caius thrust a white cell phone in front of my face and looked at me like I was stupid.
"Or we can just trade phone numbers." He finished deadpan, like he was a young teenager who thought his mother's tech savvy was not beyond the toddler stage.
"Uh, yeah! Of course, absolutely." I said, fishing for my own phone while trying not to laugh at the fact that Caius had a mobile trinket of a tiny sea lion surrounded by pink little beads.
