CHAPTER 9: A New feeling: FEAR.
I can't stop thinking about the dream I had last night. Is the next case seriously a Romeo and Juliet theme? I'm a little annoyed, but curious.
"Ai- Mai… MAI!" The teacher pulls me away from my thoughts.
"I'm sorry Kojima sensei!" I stand up and bow.
"Mai. Don't daydream in my class. Now answer the question. How do you say 'Where is the train station located?' in english?" Kojima Sensei asks. I think about it but nothing comes to mind. Crap I need to start studying before I fail this semester! I've been too wrapped up in work lately.
"Ummm…. I'm sorry Sensei, I don't know," I say, embarrassed.
"Of course you don't. Kaneko please answer the question." Kojima Sensei says. I turn red, now extremely annoyed and embarrassed. Kaneko stands.
"Where is the train located?" Kaneko says in perfect english.
"Perfect, as always Kaneko. Mai you should learn a thing or two from Kaneko. You may both sit." I roll my eyes when Kojima Sensei turns his back and continues lecturing on the English Culture. I glare at Kaneko and he smirks at me, as if he's on the top of the world and I'm just some stupid peasant. HOW ANNOYING. I now get extremely irritated that Sensei shouted me out in front of the whole class and made my arch enemy corrected me. The bell finally rings and Kojima Sensei dismisses the class. I quickly get my things and head straight for SVR, it's only a 15 minute walk from my school.
I walk into SVR, which is as plain as ever. Two black leather sofas, a black desk at the corner with a black telephone on it, a small kitchen to the left and two doors straight ahead, one with Lin's name and the other with Naru's name.
"Mai, tea." I hear Naru. I sigh and throw my school bag on the couch.
"Yeah yeah, whatever." I walk into the kitchen and make him tea. When it's finished I take it to his office.
"Mai. Next time knock. It's rude to just barge into someone's office." Naru glares, his blue eyes cold as ever.
"You were the one who asked for tea! Don't complain." I glare right back at him as I place the tea on his desk. We glare at each other for a few moments then he speaks.
"There's a potential client coming in today. He should be here in a few minutes. When he comes, just knock on both Lin's office and my office. Don't enter. Just knock and say the client's here. Understand? Or do I have to say it a little slower for you?" Naru states, a slight smirk on his lips. I glare at him, then roll my eyes and slam his office door.
"SO ANNOYING! WHAT IS WITH EVERYONE TODAY?!" I scream as I stomp to the kitchen and make myself some tea. When I walk out of the kitchen, a cup of tea in my hand, the front door opens. It's the overprotective father! Tall, curly short black hair and dark brown eyes, just like in my dream. He sees me and smiles.
"Hello, My name is Aiko Ito. I'm looking for Mr. Kayuza Shibuya." He says, his voice soft.
"HI! My name is Mai Taniyama, I'm his assistance please have a seat and Naru- I mean Mr. Shibuya will be with you shortly. " I say, smiling at him. Naru's name sounds weird coming from my mouth. I knock on both Lin and Naru's door.
"The client's here!" I say. Lin comes out with a laptop and Naru comes out of his little cave a few moments later. He introduces himself and Lin, then sits down and crosses his leg.
"Now please explain your case, be careful not to leave out any details." Naru states. Aiko nods.
"Well, I should probably start my saying this. I have a daughter named she was 10, her mother, my wife, was killed by a vampire coming home from work. Ever since then, I've been protective of who my daughter hangs out with and talks to, basically a protective father. Now she is 15 years old and she doesn't want to stop seeing this kid name Jun. He's a vampire that she claims to love. This vampire kid is nothing but trouble. He's in a vampire local gang and let's just say, he's not gonna get far in life… A few days ago, My daughter went missing. She never came home from school. I called the police and they haven't been able to find her nor Jun… I'm scared for my daughter's life. I just don't know what to do.." Aiko says.
"Sounds like your daughter ran away from home. You should let the police handle it." Naru says. He then stands up.
"No wait, You don't understand. I thought that at first too. But I got this voicemail call from her two days ago, right before she disappeared." Aiko takes out his phone and plays it.
"Dad.. Look there's something I need to tell you. I know you hate Jun, but I think we're in trouble.. not with the law, Dad I swear we didn't do anything wrong. The other day we were walking through an ally and I think we saw something we shouldn't have. There were a group of guys, Jun says they were vampires and they killed a schoolgirl, she was short, with short brown hair and brown eyes, around my age and they kept on saying something about how she isn't the vampire princess. When Jun heard that, he snapped. He was saying all weird kinds of stuff saying thank God the Princess is still alive. I think the guys heard us so we ran away. But after that I feel like I'm being followed everywhere I go. Jun says he feels like someone is following him too. Dad I'm starting to freak out. Jun's friends started researching who these guys could be and they found out they were apart of some weird rebellion group who supposedly killed the Princess when she was younger because she was half human half vampire. Dad, something's just not right. I-" there was a loud bang in the background-" Who's there?" I could hear the terror in the girl's voice. "Jun..?" She calls out, her voice barely audible. Then she screams and the sound of her being dragged is heard. "LET ME GO! GET OFF OF ME! DAD! DADDY! JUN!" She screams, then the line goes dead.
Aiko chokes up, I can see his eyes start to water. I quickly hand him a tissue. Naru has his hand on his chin, I could tell he's deep in thought.
"Please help me. I fear my daughter won't be alive much longer." Naru is quiet. Then he looks at Lin, then back at Aiko.
"We'll take the case. I need all of your daughter's friends names and the names of Jun's friends. We need to conduct interviews. Please leave the information with my assistant. We weill start the investigation as soon as possible." Naru goes back into his cave like office and Lin follows him. Aiko writes down contact info on a piece of paper, thanks me, and leaves.
I can hear Lin and Naru talking, but I can't make out what they're saying. I tip toe to Naru's office door and press my ear to the door.
"Naru it's too dangerous. There are hundreds maybe even thousands of vampires apart of rebellion. Do you honestly think you should get mixed up in that situation? They might come after us." Lin says.
"Not if I take down their base in Tokyo. we could kill two birds with one stone. Unless you are suggesting we let them die and lose valuable intel?" Naru states.
"I'm suggesting you to play it safe." Lin states.
"You know I'm not the type to run away when I receive a challenge, no matter how impossible it may sound. Father and I have been researching the rebellion for years. He might know where in Tokyo we can start looking."
"Naru I highly suggest you decline this case. It's too risky." Lin says. Naru sighs, I could already imagine him pinching the bridge of his nose in annoyance. I smile to myself and press closer to the door. Suddenly the door opens and I fall flat on my face. I look up to see Naru piercing blue eyes. I swear if looks could kill…
"Mai It's rude to eavesdrop, how old are you, four? Or do you just have the intellectual of a nosy four year old?" Naru says, annoyance obviously evident in his voice. I give him a nervous smile.
"I may have access to Rebellion whereabouts… My Guardian Peter has been researching the rebellion and their moves for years just like you. I can get Yasu to hack into his database." I offer. Naru is quiet for a few moments, then nods.
"Call Yasu. Get him here as soon as possible. Be useful for once. I'll write down questions and you will call and interview all of Jun and Kayo's friends." Naru states. Lin walks out of Naru's office and into his own. I roll my eyes at Naru's comment but go to my desk and do as he says. Oh God, I actually listen to him now.
After three long hours of talking to friends of Jun and Kayo, I finally end the last interview. No one knew anything, apparently they didn't blab their mouth about what they saw, I'm guessing to stay safe. I sigh, then the front door opens.
"Why the long face beautiful?" Yasu grins.
"Hey Yasu, it's just we aren't getting anywhere with this case so far. If we don't find those teenagers by tomorrow night, they're as good as dead." I say.
"Don't worry! Your one and only love will save the day!" Yasu says cheerfully as he opens his laptop. He cracks his knuckles. "Time to break into big Daddy's database." He winks at me.
"Gross. Don't call him that. It's really weird." I say. He looks at me and we both burst out into laughter. He really knows how to cheer me up. Naru comes out of his office.
"Stop messing around and get to work. Mai, tea." Naru says.
"Okay okay, slave driver." I say and make tea for Naru, Yasu and myself. After 20 minutes Yasu hacks into Peter's database.
"Yasu, you're a genius." I say. He flips his imaginary long hair.
"I know darling, I know." He says. I laugh. Naru is as serious as ever. Yasu goes through the all sorts of information. Most of the top secret files are unbreakable, not even Yasu could hack into it, however, he did find what we were looking for. The vampire rebellion Tokyo base headquarters is suspected to be in the sewers. They're keeping a super low profile. However they're completely convinced the vampire princess is alive. Are you kidding me? How far would you go just to kill me? It's not my fault I was born into royalty. I have some serious family issues. They reportedly have underground cells that they use for torture. I point at the screen.
"Look Naru! If they're still alive, they'll most likely be here." I say. Naru nods.
"We need to attack as soon as possible." Naru says. Wait what?Attack?
"I thought this was a rescue mission, not a war." I say. Crap, I'm really digging my own grave here. I hacked into Peter's database and I'm going to attack the vampire rebellion? Peter is going to murder me.
"Yasu, Mai. Contact the others. We attack tomorrow morning. I'll have all the gear set up. Call Everyone. This operation is top secret. Tell no one. Don't speak about it. The only way I can get information is to hack into their database through their network. I'll tell you the details tomorrow." Naru states getting up.
"Why do I get the feeling this isn't a rescue mission anymore? What about the teenagers?" I ask, getting irritated. Why does he want to attack the vampire rebellion so badly? Lin is right, this is really dangerous especially since there are over 400 vampires reported working there. We should just sneak in, grab the kids, and sneak out.
"Mai, remember I'm the boss. Now do as you're told." Naru glares daggers at me.
"Not until I know why you're so determined to get us all killed! Naru we should just sneak in and grab the kids without anyone noticing." I say.
"Mai, have you even thought about how stupid that sounds? They know what the kids look like, they're just going to keep on trying to kill them. The only way they're going to stay safe is if we eliminate the enemy. Plus, this is bigger and more important than the kids." Naru growls.
"So you're saying that two young innocent lives don't matter?!" I scream at him, I'm so angry that I'm shaking.
"I'm saying look at the bigger picture. How stupid are you?" He states.
"Why are you so worked up about this vampire rebellion crap? Why do you want to be so involved with them? How is information more important than innocents?!"
Naru pinches the bridge of his nose.
"It's useless arguing with you. Go do as you're told or you're fired." Naru says harshly. Before I can catch myself I let out a hurt look. Damn, I'm so angry that my eyes get watery, I grab my bag and leave the office, slamming the door shut behind me. I wipe away my angry tears and catch a taxi to my hotel. Stupid Naru. I hate him.
I finally get into the room and realize I have no idea why I started arguing with Naru. I look into my reflection, staring back is a scared girl. No way… I'm actually terrified. Tomorrow I'm going to break into an organization that murdered my parents and have been trying to kill me my whole life, so who wouldn't be? Not only, but that I'm going against Peter's warnings and we're going to be outnumbered by hundreds. All of my training is going to be put to the test tomorrow. Fuck. Tomorrow is definitely the day I die.
SO? Tell me, did you like it? Please comment! Nothing too harsh, kay? Love you guys! Until next time! XOXO
