A/N: Happy New Year's Eve from OracionMist! Sorry it took a while, but thank you all for your patience! It would've been done a lot sooner, but I simply can't come up with battle scenes at the moment and during this chapter, so please bare with it. Enjoy the chapter!

Disclaimer: I only own Ayumi not Pokémon.

Chapter 9

"Uh, can we skip Lavender Town and just go back to Saffron City? I'm sure we can win without a ghost type Pokemon." Naruto said as he was sweating as they got closer to the haunted town. The group breezed by challenging bikers and strange people, and the foreign duo had both caught a Growlithe, Murkrow, a single Houndour, and a Hoothoot with James a little sad from the sight of the Puppy Pokemon. The blond really didn't want to deal with ghost types; he'd had a bad experience with wild Duskull, Shuppet, and Misdreavus as a kid, he knew they were playing around, but that didn't make him any less scared of the type.

Ayumi, on the other hand, seemed to love ghost types, "Come on, Naruto. Ghost types are cute and Sabrina's a psychic type trainer; it'd be good to have a type advantage if it's possible." Meowth wasn't agreeing so much, but put up with it, since he knew that Meowth was the cutest to the silverette.

"Then what about us?" Jessie asked as she and James clung onto each other when they came closer to the Pokemon Tower as they glanced back at the empty town. "You two can go ahead, and we'll be at Saffron City." James nodded quickly at that.

"Sure, just try not to cause too much trouble. Ayumi, if you would?" The blond looked over to the albino Breeder, secretly wishing he could leave too, but they came for ghost types and that's what they were going to get.

Ayumi nodded as she called out her Alakazam and had him teleport the duo back to Saffron City's Pokemon Center, and Meowth staying with his trainer knowing Aerial Ace and Foul Play to be able to fight as well.

The duo were finally in front of the tower and had conveniently become dark, and brought out their dark types for battle.

"Let's find some ghost types, Houndoom." Ayumi cheered elatedly.

"Help me out with this Haru." Naruto said unenthusiastically.

Naruto was not liking the feeling the Pokemon Tower gave off; it was just too spooky that even Rhapsody didn't want to come. Not to mention that not a single ghost type had appeared since the duo had set foot inside. The blond had been checking up on information on Sabrina and found out that she only had a Kadabra. "Well it's only one psychic type, Ayumi. Haru and I will win this easily; not to mention I did catch a Murkrow and a Houndour, so we can just go back to Saffron City, right?"

"We're already here; we might as well try to catch a ghost type." The albino breeder replied before sighing, "Not even a Gastly has shown up."

"Bone!" A cry in the barely lit tower had the duo jump as Houndoom and Haru barely had time to avoid a hit and locate the source.

The blond was disliking his surroundings more and more, "What was that? Did you see it, Haru?" The Umbreon shook his head at his father figure.

"You neither, Houndoom?" The dark/fire type shook his head as well.

The Unova native gulped, "Well at least one Pokemon showed up, but we don't know what it was. The only thing we heard was it yell "bone"."

"There's only one type of Pokemon that gives that call though, and this area does fit where they would stay."

"I see, you mean a Cubone." Naruto remembered, "It must've thought we were trespassing-can't blame it-and attacked us."

"Too bad it isn't a ghost type, but it's pretty good to have snuck up on us." The silverette praised the ground type that was nowhere to be seen.

"You're right, if we see it again, I think I'll catch it." The cerulean eyed boy stated determined; he didn't want a Cubone to be in such a place on its own, it had to be in a cemetery if its mother died. He looked back down at Haru, calmed of his surroundings now, "Let's go, everyone. We have Pokemon to find."

The Umbreon nodded as well as Ayumi, and her Houndoom gave a bark, "Yeah."

"I think now would be a good time to try to attract some with Honey." Naruto said as the group was now deeper in the tower.

"Would it work on ghost types though?" The Sinnoh-native asked as she brought out a tightly sealed jar of honey as the blond took out one of his own.

"We won't know till we find out." Both had their hands on the lids as their Pokemon prepared for any combat as the pairs made a distance from each other and opened the lid at the same time to let the sweet enticing aroma fill the air as blurs went at the young trainers for the Honey.

"Haru, stop it with Shadow Ball!" Naruto called out as he closed the lid and launched at the unidentified Pokemon while it was still darting around.

On impact, the Pokemon crashed down, but not before getting up with a hollow call that made the blond shiver, "Misdreavus."

Ayumi had done the same thing as she called her Houndoom to use Flamethrower at a level to at least stun the Pokemon in place so it could be known, and with a look, the breeder smiled, "A Duskull."

As soon as it was discovered it went into the shadows to strike as Misdreavus glared its Mean Look before using Sucker Punch.

Haru was hit and flinched but ready to retaliate as Naruto commanded, "Don't give up and use Dark Pulse!"

The Umbreon did as ordered as he launched the dark ball of energy continuously at the ghost type until it struck and went down. "Um!" Haru called out as to his father figure when he decided that Misdreavus couldn't fight anymore and was ready to be caught.

Naruto threw a dusk ball and the Misdreavus was captured without much struggle, "Good job, Haru! How about you, Ayumi?"

He turned to see the silverette's own dusk ball click to indicate that she'd caught her Pokemon, "Yeah, I got Duskull. It seems that using Honey will be a good call."

"That's right, but I'm surprised that two ghost types from a different region are here. Could they have been abandoned?" The blond wondered, hoping that he was wrong and they were never caught and released.

The Sinnoh-native thought for a moment before responding, "Well ghost types are everywhere, so I guess they wouldn't be limited to a single region. Although we might have a problem with our Poke-dex currently being limited to certain regions; I only have Kanto, Hoenn, and Sinnoh on mine."

"I have Kanto, Johto, and Unova." Naruto commented, "We can always ask Professor Oak or the other professors if we come across any Pokemon we both don't know. In any case, let's keep looking for more ghost types." He and Haru walked forward as he kept his chills under control.

Ayumi nodded as she followed with Houndoom behind her and Meowth on her shoulder.

The two had taken a while as they reached the second highest floor of the tower, along the way Naruto had managed to catch a Drifloon, Litwick and finally found the Cubone he'd been looking for; it'd taken quite some persuasion with Rhapsody's help, but it agreed eventually with the condition of becoming stronger to make it's mother proud. Ayumi caught a Shuppet, Sableye, and Litwick.

They'd both caught another Pokemon as well, but neither recognized what it was as it looked like a living sword as a blue cloth held its sheath. The two young trainers took no chances as they threw quick balls and captured the unknown Pokemon.

"What was that?" Ayumi asked as she tried to search through her caught Pokemon list, only to find no data.

"I don't know, but I'm surprised the professors aren't calling us right away since we caught an unknown Pokemon." Naruto mentioned as he looked at his X-transceiver, "Not only that, but it seems that the ghost types are more violent the higher we go. Could it be that they're trying to protect something?"

"Even so, we're only one floor below the top, so we should keep going if we can." The albino breeder said as her Houndoom barked to show that he could continue.

Haru gave his confirmation as well, "You're right. After seeing that new Pokemon, there might be others.

Reaching the top floor, there was definitely a chilling atmosphere that was tense as Naruto saw something move out of the corner of his eye, "Haru, Moonlight!"

As light was shone, a lone shadow was in front of the duo as what came up was a Gengar, but it frowned threateningly at them, "Gengar! Geng Geng Gar!" It quickly launched Shadow Balls at Naruto and Ayumi.

Their respective Pokemon took the hit as they forewent the pain and growled at the Pokemon that was attempting to harm their masters. "Meowth, what did that Gengar just say?"

The normal type was just as angry at the Shadow Pokemon, but replied, "It said to leave at once."

"But why attack us, Gengar?" Naruto asked.

The ghost/poison type fully emerged as it asked in its own name as Meowth translated, " "Aren't you here to tear down this tower?" "

"Of course not, Gengar. We only came to look for ghost types; we wouldn't hurt your home."

"Tump…"

"Boo…"

"Phan…"

"Pum…"

Ayumi turned her head to the corner of the room, "Did you hear that, Naruto?"

The Unova-native nodded, "It sounds like their injured."

The silverette didn't hesitate as she went in that direction, "I'll see if I can help them." She didn't make it very far as Gengar tripped her.

Meowth snarled, "What's the big idea?!"

"Geng Geng Gar! Gengar!" Was yelled back.

Meowth looked about ready to attack the Gengar as Naruto intervened, "Hold on, why don't we talk things out before we make a bigger misunderstanding."

"So ya mean Team Rocket's trying to tear this place down?" Meowth stated what he'd heard Gengar, shocked. He knew that Jessie, James, and himself weren't that high up in the ladder, but he'd never heard about this once from his former boss.

"What about these Pokemon?" Naruto asked as he and Ayumi were aiding two unknown Pokemon each. Once again, neither knew what they were, but could only assume they were ghost types.

The two that were in Naruto's care looked like small ghosts with tree stumps on their heads, while the silverette was taking care of two pumpkin-like Pokemon with one being small and the other about twice the former's size.

The Gengar stared at the two before replying, "Geng Gengar Geng."

""They say they're Phantump and Pumpkaboo."" Meowth stated before questioning, "Still doesn't explain why they're here?"

The ghost/poison type shrugged, as it answered with the normal type speaking for it again. ""They got hurt when they were in the forest and came here. This is a home for all ghost types, but right now isn't too safe.""

"Even so, isn't there something that we can do?" The Sinnoh-native wondered as she gently petted the physical portions of the two Pumpkaboo with her Houndoom nuzzling her side. She didn't want a home for ghost types-or any Pokemon for that matter-to be destroyed.

Naruto just shook his head, "There's no way Team Rocket would be allowed to even touch this place. It is also a cemetery for departed Pokemon. No one would stay by to it being torn down." He paused for a moment as he thought though, "But there aren't too many people in this town though, except for a few." He tried to think of a way to possibly deter Team Rocket, but couldn't come up with too many options.

The two trainers couldn't stay there forever to defend the Pokemon Tower, and even then, Team Rocket could continue sending more of their members. By then, it would be a matter of numbers rather than strength.

Ayumi thought for a moment, "Even so, maybe they aren't using brute force to try and destroy the tower, but with a means of money? After all, Team Rocket has a tendency of using their money to their advantage." The S.S. Anne was definitely a prime example.

Meowth nodded to that, "Team Rocket's got a huge funding, so they can do just about anything they want. That's how the former boss is never caught."

"Well if that's the case, then maybe if we somehow get ownership of the Pokemon Tower, Team Rocket won't be able to use that method." The blond stated while Haru played with the Phantump with his tail. "Then let's find the person that currently owns the Pokemon Tower and see if we can do something."

"Gengar, do you know what the owner looks like?"

Gengar tilted its head, "Geng? Gengar gar Gengar. Gengar."

"Gengar says it doesn't know anything about an owner, but there's an old man that always comes by."

"Then maybe that's the owner." The silverette hummed in thought.

"Well, from what I know from my mom, she says there's an old man named Mr. Fuji that always visited and tended the graves here, so that may be him. He also runs a daycare shelter for abandoned Pokemon in a little while away from here." Naruto said before checking the time. "But we'll have to wait till morning."

Ayumi also checked the time and mentioned, "But the Pokemon Center's already past it's curfew; we won't be able to stay there."

Naruto shivered knowing this, "Gengar… Would it be okay to stay for the night?"

Gengar smiled widely, "Gengar Geng!"

Meowth's stomach growled as he translated, "Gengar said sure. Ayumi, can you bring out dinner before we sleep? I'm starving!"

"We did miss dinner, why don't we eat?" The blond mentioned as he felt a tugging at his sleeves to see the two Phantump looking up at him with puppy eyes and glanced to see the two Pumpkaboo doing the same to the silverette. He chuckled as he forewent his fear of ghosts, "You guys can have some too."

After having eaten dinner and resting for the night in the Pokemon Tower, the group headed off to Lavender Town, of course they had little hitchhikers wanting to tag along.

"You do know those four are following us, right?"

"Yes, but no one seems to mind. The people of Lavender Town must be used to ghosts." Naruto replied with a shiver as he glanced back to see that the Phantump and Pumpkaboo pairs had indeed followed them since they'd left the tower earlier in the morning.

"They're so cute. I'd love to have one of each, but those two Phantump appear to like you." The silverette gushed quietly as she tried not to make the four Pokemon's attempt at discretely following them easily discovered.

"I can say the same; those Pumpkaboo really clung to you just as much as the Phantump were. I guess they're infants." The blond stated and he knew that his travelling companion was thinking the same as he was, "We'll see what we can do after this."

"Right."

"If you want to buy the Pokemon Tower from me, you have another thing coming!" An elderly man's voice exclaimed just as Naruto was about to knock on the door of the Volunteer Pokemon House, as the door burst open to reveal a bald old man with thick white eyebrows and an ill-tempered look on his face. He blinked when he stared at the two young trainers, "You aren't with the people trying to buy the Pokemon Tower to tear it down, are you?" He asked suspiciously.

"Not at all." Naruto waved his hands in denial. "We just wanted to know if you were Mr. Fuji?"

"That would be me, why are you here? Don't mind my rudeness, but kids don't come by too often when they're not from here. They usually pass by to look for ghost types."

"We heard that people were trying to buy off the Pokemon Tower so they could tear it down. We were wondering if we could help?" Ayumi asked kindly.

Mr Fuji rose an eyebrow, "That's kind of you young ones, but how would you be able to help me?"

"We can help you with the funding to keep the Pokemon Tower standing." The blond said as he and his silver haired companion took out their Poke-dexes to show their accounts.

"Well that's kind of you, but I… You kids are that rich?!" The old man gaped at the amount of money the two trainers had. Either they were good trainers or they came from wealthy families. Mr. Fuji shook his head before asking, "Tell me, I doubt that the locals would be mention what might happen to the Pokemon Tower, so how did you learn about it?"

Naruto sheepishly scratched the back of his head, "You see, we actually learned about it from one of the ghost Pokemon living there, and we didn't want their home to be torn down."

The elderly man only stared at the two before chuckling, "Kids these days are so strange, but thank you for helping us."

"Now everything will be alright, Gengar. You won't have to worry about the Pokemon Tower." Naruto told the Gengar as he and Ayumi were standing in front of the Pokemon Tower one more time before leaving to head back to Saffron City.

"Gengar!" The ghost/poison type thanked with a wide grin.

The Phantump and Pumpkaboo had won in the end with their determination of coming along and had been caught by the blond and silverette respectively with the more knowledgeable caretakers congratulating them for catching Pokemon from the Kalos region in Kanto. They were informed that recently there was discovered to be a new type when the faraway region of Kalos interacted with the others, the fairy type.

According to Iruka, Naruto actually already had three fairy types, his Clefairy Hoshi, Igglybuff Mao, and Togepi, and Jame's Mime Jr. also being a fairy/psychic. Kazuki told Ayumi that she had her Clefairy as a fairy type with Jessie's Wigglytuff as one.

They were also informed about Eevee having a fairy type evolution known as a Sylveon. That instantly had the albino breeder wanting to raise one. She made sure to have a male and female Eevee to evolve them so she could have them breed to have a small Eeveelution group, and according to her role model, her two Eevee's were already getting along. She also agreed with Naruto that she would give her an egg to raise after she'd trained her Eevee's; a Sylveon would be perfect for contests.

As the Unova native and Sinnoh native left, they didn't notice Gengar sinking into the shadows as it followed them.

"Ah, you must be challengers." A kind looking woman said with a gentle smile as she stood in front of the gym. "Sabrina is inside; I'll show you the way."

"Are you one of the referees, ma'am?" Naruto asked politely as she led the two inside.

"Oh no, I'm actually Sabrina's mother." The woman chuckled as she looked at the two trainer's surprised faces, "I just intend to spend time with my daughter when I can, and what better way than with her gym?"

Ayumi smiled as the actions, "That's really supportive of you."

"Thank you. Ah, I believe I should mention that recently, Sabrina is going to have new battle rules."

That had the blond and silverette concerned, the Psychic type gym leader of Kanto never really publicized her battle rule like the others, but only announced the minimum of being it being a psychic type specialized gym. They were prepared with their battle strategies, but never expected a change in rules. Sabrina's mother noticed the duo's expressions as she giggled, "Don't worry you two; she will wait a little while before settling into her new rules."

"May I ask what does rules would be?" The Unova native wondered with Sinnoh native nodding.

"She will be battling four-on-four. She used to be… a little overconfident and went one-on-one, until a boy named Ash and his friends brought along a comical Haunter." She smiled, "Sabrina laughed and smiled with her Pokemon for the first time in a long while. We're here."

The three now stood in front of the door of the gym as it glowed a familiar shade of blue as it creaked open to reveal a young teenaged looking girl with long straight greenish black hair. "You two are challengers, correct? I am Sabrina."

"It's nice to meet you, Sabrina. I'm Naruto and she's Ayumi."

"I see. The rule will be a one-on-one battle. Which of you shall be going first?" Sabrina asked stoically.

Naruto stepped forward, "I am."

The gym leader nodded as she and the blond walked over to the arena while Sabrina's mom and Ayumi stayed at the sidelines. Sabrina didn't hesitate to begin the match as she let out her Kadabra.

"Let's go, Haru!" Naruto released his Umbreon as he did a mid-air flip as he appeared out of his Poke-ball. As much as he wanted to let his other Pokemon have a chance at their first battles, Sabrina had to be strong to only now consider changing rules; he wasn't going to take chances.

The gym leader's eyebrow rose for a moment as she couldn't recognize her opponent's Pokemon, but she wasn't going to be bothered. "You may have the first move."

"Thanks. Haru, use Shadow Ball and give it a boost with Dark Pulse!" Haru quickly followed the command as he launched the shadowy orb as dark energy surrounded it.

"Send it back with Psychic." The Kadabra tried but was as shocked as its owner when it didn't work and was painfully struck as it exploded on impact. "What?"

Naruto gave a smirk, "Sorry Sabrina, but psychic type attacks can't do anything to dark type attacks. That's why I had Shadow Ball covered."

Sabrina widened her eyes, "Then… Kadabra!" She called out as the smoke cleared to see that her Pokemon had fainted.

She sighed, this was why she had to change the rules. She could be beaten easily if she only relied on one Pokemon, and if Naruto went for an advantage, his friend must've went for it as well. Research of this dark type was also needed. "Well done, Naruto. Ayumi." Sabrina said as she called back her Kadabra and gave it to one of her assistants standing by to send to the Pokemon Center.

Said breeder stepped forward as the blond recalled his Umbreon and wished her luck as she congratulated him. "Alright, let's go Houndoom!"

"Another dark type, I assume?" Sabrina asked as she eyed the canine Pokemon.

"Yes, a fire/dark type from the Johto region."

"I see. Go, Mr. Mime."

When the Barrier Pokemon appeared, Ayumi frowned as she shivered, "A Mr. Mime? Why?"

"Something wrong, Ayumi?" Naruto asked.

"I just don't like Mr. Mime. I don't like clowns." The albino shivered much like the blond would with ghost types. "Houndoom, one hit. Dark Pulse!"

The Dark Pokemon didn't hesitate to follow his trainer's orders as he sent the wave of dark energy at the pantomime Pokemon with as much strength as needed and knocked Mr. Mime unconscious.

Sabrina mentally sighed, she had expected that, but at least her challengers were powerful enough to defeat her that easily and show her that she also needed training herself. "Congratulations, you two."

"Thanks, Sabrina. We trained hard for your battle." Naruto thanked as he and his travelling companion watched in awe as Sabrina used her telekinesis to give them their badges.

After a short while, the two met up with Jessie and James, even went to Silph Co. to meet the CEO who happened to be Ayumi's grandfather for a little bit. They then went to a dojo whose master stated two the two young trainers that they could have one of their prized fighting types if they managed to beat the students as well as himself.

Naruto and Ayumi naturally won and received a Hitmonchan and Hitmonlee respectively, and decided it was time to head to the next town.

"So where will we be going?" Jessie asked as they sailed in their Meowth balloon, a change of pace couldn't hurt.

Ayumi checked her Poke-navi for the closest town with a gym, "Next would be Fuchsia City, with the gym being poison type specialized, ninja-based, and the leader would Koga."

At the words, Naruto's eyes lit up, "Ninja-based? Awesome, I just love ninjas! You'll be able to shine too, Rhapsody!"

"Yay! I finally get a turn!" The Meloetta cheered.

"Alakazam, Empoleon, and Skarmory will do great in this." The albino breeder commented as she contemplated her battle strategy.

The blond and his Melody Pokemon cheered, "Fuchsia City, here we come!"

A/N: And that's chapter 9. Naruto and Ayumi caught a lot of new Pokémon and learned of the Pokémon in Kalos region and fairy types, in a way to commemorate Pokémon X and Y. Lavender Town is one weird town to write about; my computer kept shutting down before I finished writing that part. Probably a coincidence. Anyway next will be Fuchsia City with Naruto tuning into his inner ninja. This'll be interesting.
