Chapter 9
"Will you go prepare tea for us, Domeki-kun?" Yuuko asks as Tsukishima takes a seat at the table. Domeki looked at her, puzzled. Her eyes narrowed and she spoke in a low voice. "He was a past customer; that's all I'm going to say. If you prepare the tea quickly, you'll find out the story."
"Okay." Domeki said, walking down the hall to the kitchen. As the entered, Maru and Moro followed after him with Mokona hopping behind them, giving a sideways glance to Yuuko before entering.
She turned around and closed the door, looking at Tsukishima. "Now, then." She said, walking to the chair. "How is she doing?"
"We had a small spat a couple of months ago at the beginning of the school year." Tsukishima sighed, putting a hand under his chin. He looked out the window, blowing air at his hair. "It was a nasty spat. We argued over you and your shop."
Yuuko raised an eyebrow. "Oh?"
Tsukishima nodded. "Over the wish that we had and the price we had to pay."
"It was a reasonable price." Yuuko said as Domeki walked in with the tea on a tray. She nodded at him and he walked over placing the hot tea in front of both of them. He stood near the corner, watching the two of them silently. "It's almost like an eye for an eye."
"It wasn't even me that wanted the wish. I just wanted to make her happy, but she's been thinking about it for a long while-"
"Two years?"
"A lot can happen in two years, witch. Anyways, it's consumed her mind and she doesn't think of anything else but revenge on you. She told me about her wish for revenge, but I didn't want to have any part of it. I wasn't aware that Watanuki-kun was going to be the one targeted. I didn't know that he was your student."
"Not my student; he's my servant." Yuuko stated. Tsukishima waved a hand, getting tired of Yuuko's personality.
"Do you want me to summon her?" He asked, standing up and cracking his knuckles. Yuuko nodded, also standing up.
"Outside, if you please."
Domeki quickly put the cups on the tray and walked to the kitchen, placing the cups in the sink. He quickly walked outside and saw Tsukishima holding an ofuda. He held it in a complicated way and held his hands out, closing his eyes and muttering a spell. A magic circle appeared below him and the air started to move around, circling around Tsukishima.
He opened his eyes and frowned. "That's weird," He muttered. "She isn't responding."
"Try again." Yuuko said. "Say that I'm here with you."
Watanuki stood up after he finished crying. He slowly walked around, trying to avoid spirits. He winced, feeling his jeans brush against the cut on his leg. He knelt down and rolled up his jeans, frowning when seeing a deep cut on his shin.
"Huh, it seems like Kazu-kun is trying to call me~" The voice cheered. "Hey, servant-"
"I am not a servant!" Watanuki shouted, clenching his fist. "I am a student who got pulled into a stupid position!"
"Whatever you say." The voice said, the tone becoming more distinctly like a woman's. "I wonder if I should go to Kazu-kun. I hope he apologizes." Suddenly, a woman wearing a seductive outfit appeared. "Hey, boy; what are you to Yuuko? Why is she trying so hard to save you? Why does it seem like she cares about you?"
Watanuki didn't respond at the woman's appearance. Even though she was wearing a sexy outfit, Watanuki didn't blush. He was focused on the pitch black aura that was surrounding the woman. He covered his mouth as he started to feel queasy.
"That woman doesn't care about anyone." The woman said, walking around. "She didn't care about me and Kazu-kun. She tried to help us, but what she did wasn't help; it was murder."
Watanuki looked up with squinted eyes when his ears caught the word "murder". "What do you mean by murder?" He asked her. She turned her head to him, glaring.
"That woman killed the very and only thing that I loved." She spat, quickly walking to Watanuki. He scrambled back as he felt a killing intent from the woman. "She said that she would grant my wish. But what she granted wasn't a wish, she granted death. Death is the only thing that you will get if you hang around that woman, boy."
Watanuki shook his head. "That's not true." Watanuki stood up. "Yuuko-san has never killed anybody out of hate. I don't even think she can harbor hate." He felt himself starting to shake as he wan confronting the woman. "I can tell from your speech that you were a customer of Yuuko-san's. Can you tell me what you wished for?"
The woman frowned. "Why would you ask? You don't know the story?" Watanuki shook his head. "That woman… that woman… SHE KILLED MY BABY!" Before she can say anything else, her head whipped around, looking up. "Kazu-kun? What did you just say…? …You're with her? She wants to talk to me?" Her face twisted as she spoke the last sentence. "Gladly."
She disappeared and Watanuki stood there, confused. "Yuuko-san would never kill anybody. She would never kill anybody unless it was for a good reason…" Something above his head caught his attention and he looked up, seeing a bright object fall down.
Watanuki held out his hands and a yellow bag landed on his palms. "A charm?" He held it up and took a step back as a path in front of him appeared. He lowered the bag and the path disappeared. A sudden calming feeling washed over him and here remembered this sensation.
"I-" Watanuki felt a calm feeling at the edge of his brain as a presence was felt.
"We were just heading to class, sensei." Domeki said, putting a hand on Watanuki's shoulder.
"This is…" Watanuki held up the pouch one more time and saw the path. "This is Domeki's aura…" Watanuki smiled and walked forward, following the path.
Domeki sighed in relief when he saw the yellow pouch drop though the ground right when the woman appeared. He looked at the woman and frowned when he saw that she was all over Tsukishima.
"Kazu-kunnnnn~~~!" She mewed, hugging him. "Why haven't you called me lately?! I missed you~"
"Rairen," Tsukishima grunted, patting the woman's back lightly. "I didn't exactly want to call you; especially since we had that argument."
Rairen frowned and jumped down. "I can see that you're in this disgusting shop again." She turned to Yuuko. "What the hell are you doing with someone like this, Kazu-kun?"
"You kidnapped Yuuko's… servant, didn't you?" Tsukishima asked. The woman shook her head in mock innocence.
"No wayyyy!" She whined, waving a hand around. "I don't even want to be involved with these people!"
Domeki clenched his hands, getting impatient. Yuuko takes a step forward, stopping Domeki. He stares at her as she slowly and confidently makes her way to Rairen. Tsukishima sees this and takes a step back, leaving Rairen irritated. She turns her head and sees Yuuko. Her gaze turns scared for a second, then furious and twisted the next.
"You…!" She screams, lunging at Yuuko. Her fists fly out and stops as it hits an invisible barrier. She screams in anger and violently hits the barrier.
Yuuko tilts her head and studies Rairen like a lab rat. She turns around and points at Domeki. He blinks and doesn't flinch when he suddenly sees the dark cloud of smoke surrounding Rairen. He looks at Yuuko, wondering why she made him able to see. He glances at her hands and sees the index and middle fingers together, writing something in the air. He notices that she does it so only Domeki can see and he makes his way to the witch.
She touches his shoulder and whispers something into his ear. "Go into the storage room and take the bow that rests on a holder." He glances at her, getting a slight idea of what she wants him to do. He nods and quickly walks to the storage.
He instantly sees the bow sitting gracefully on top of boxes. He takes it in his hands and jerks back a little, feeling a slight force at the spiritual power held inside the object. The jolt quickly dies down and Domeki looks over the bow, walking back to the front. He spots Yuuko and Tsukishima talking. Tsukishima nods and turns back to Rairen.
"I don't want to hurt you, Rairen. But you've taken one of my students. Why?" Tsukishima asks the woman. She snaps her head to him and growls.
"Why not? I cannot touch this woman. The best way to get back at her is to kill the person most close to her." She explains, slamming an angry hand at the barrier. "As you talked to him, touched him, interacted with the boy; I slowly broke through the stupid protective aura that was placed upon him." She spits. Domeki gets the idea that it was his aura that she was breaking through and wondered when he did that.
He waits for Yuuko to say something before taking action, he really wanted to kill the woman, but the dark aura surrounding her told him a different story. Rairen continued to talk, wildly waving her arms around.
"He had passed out a few times after I kept on making tiny cracks through the aura. I was always planning on taking him whenever he did, but there was always someone beside him." She complained. Yuuko glances at Domeki as Rairen says this. "I was lucky when you hit those two final blows, Kazu-kun."
"What "final blows"?" Tsukishima asks. Rairen looks at him her expression turning into glee.
"Why, when you bumped into him, of course! You talked to him, you touched his shoulder; and he brushed you off, thinking that you wanted to hurt him." She cackles gleefully. "I was lucky that that annoying person wasn't with him."
Domeki tightens his grip around the wood of the bow. Itching to shoot an arrow. He stops himself with all of his will and grunts in response. Yuuko holds a hand up and Rairen stops talking, glaring at her. Tsukishima opens his mouth to speak again.
"Where did you take him, Rairen?" He asks.
"Darkness." She says. "That's all I'm going to say."
"That's all the explanation I need." Yuuko intervenes. "Domeki-kun." She nods to him.
Domeki takes a step back and raises the bow, keeping his elbows taut. He aims for the space above Rairen's head and pulls the string back. Tsukishima watches Domeki closely as Domeki creates an arrow full of his aura. Domeki breathes in and out, slowly and releases the bow, straight at Rairen.
