The next morning, Quinn met Ruth in Puck's place, they had breakfast there and then took the subway to the High Line. That was one of Ruth's favorite places in New York, and she had to go there every time she visited the city.
Mrs. Puckerman walked slowly, admiring the view with a huge smile on her face, and Quinn mirrored the smile. She couldn't help it. She adored the woman and was really grateful, not only for being so welcomed in the family, but also because, if it wasn't for Ruth, she would never have met Puck. The older woman was the reason he called her in the first place.
Quinn was deep in thought, in her own world, when she felt Ruth's hand on her arm.
"Let's sit for a while, dear." Said the older woman, as she walked towards a bench.
Both of them sat in comfortable silence, admiring the view, until Mrs. Puckerman spoke:
"You know, I'm really happy Noah found you, Quinn. I was worried about him. His relationships only lasted a couple of weeks, and he never took any girl home to introduce to Sarah and I. Well, there was Rachel, but I don't think it counts, since I was the one who introduced the two of them. "
Quinn listened with a smile on her face and nodded, motioning for Ruth to continue.
"I really thought that there was a chance that he would end up alone, since he couldn't keep a girlfriend. And then he showed up with you. I knew you were special. Otherwise, he wouldn't have taken you to meet me." After a pause, she continued. "I just want to welcome you properly to his family, Quinn. I really think you'll stick around."
The blonde felt her heart swelling in her chest. It meant the world to her, that Ruth felt that way about her. Then her smile faltered. She remembered that this wasn't real. She wasn't a part of Puck's family, it was all an act. And that was all she needed to realize that she was in too deep, the lines were way too blurry.
In the afternoon, Quinn took Ruth shopping. They went to stores that were on sale and other ones with good discounts, outside Manhattan.
Ruth bought many new clothes and both women had fun. They went back to Puck's apartment and decided to order in. Ruth said she was tired, from walking around all day, and they decided they wouldn't go out.
A few hours later, Puck got home to Quinn and his mother sitting on his couch, crying their eyes out. He got desperate. Did something happen to Sarah? Maybe someone died? Are they hurt?
"What happened? Is everything alright?" He asked, concern clear on his voice.
Then he noticed the tv was on.
"Shhh. " Both woman said, in unison.
"What? Did you just shushed me? I just got back from work, you're supposed to want to spend time with me."
"We're trying to watch a movie here, son. You're welcome to join us if you want."
"It's 'P.S. I love you." Quinn said, trying to help him decide if he would watch it or not.
"No, thanks." Puck said, shaking his head.
"There's pizza in the kitchen, if you want." The blonde said, as the women turned their focus back to the movie.
Later, Puck and Ruth convinced Quinn to spend the night. They were all exhausted, especially Puck, who had a very tiring week. The three of them chatted for a few more hours and made plans for the next day, before going to sleep.
On Saturday morning, the three of them went to the Chelsea Market to buy groceries, since they would cook lunch at home. Ruth insisted that Puck was too busy lately and needed some homemade food.
"I'm sure you haven't had a proper meal in forever, Noah. You can't live off eating fast food."
"I don't, Ma. Don't worry, I eat just fine."
"No, you have to eat healthier."
"I think I'm old enough to decided what to eat. "
"I'll always know better, Noah. That's why I'll cook for you today."
Quinn smiled, remembering the exchange between mother and son earlier. Puck was such a momma's boy! She would have to tease him when she got the chance. She knew it was something he would try to deny and be embarrassed about, but she couldn't help it.
They bought all they needed and went back home.
Once they got there, the three of them walked to the kitchen, where they dropped the groceries. Puck went back to the living room, sat on his couch and turn the tv on, surfing through channels until he chose the one where Die Hard was on.
Back at the kitchen, Quinn decided to offer Ruth some help with lunch. She was relieved when the older woman said that she didn't need any help, because the blonde couldn't cook anything, she was only trying to be polite when she offered.
Quinn joined Puck on the couch. She grabbed the remote and changed the tv channel.
"Hey, I was watching that!" Protested Puck.
"Exactly, you were watching that. Now we will watch something else."
"I really like Die Hard. Put it back on."
"I don't like it. I won't put it back. What you're gonna do, tell your momma? " She said, in a teasing tone.
"What's that supposed to mean?"
"It means you're a momma's boy."
"Of course I'm not. What makes you say that?" Quinn was right, he was bothered by it.
"Well, you're sitting here watching Die Hard while your mom is in your kitchen, cooking for you, because she doesn't think you eat properly."
"That just means she cares about her son and wants what's best for him. You wouldn't know, since your mother never really cared, right? She probably doesn't even remember she has a daughter!" Puck said, trying to tease her back. He regretted it the moment he saw Quinn lower her head and cover her face with her hands. He was used to joke with things like that with his friends. He was reminded that he didn't know the blonde very well, even though he felt most of the time they spent together that he has known her for a lifetime. He felt very stupid.
"I'm sorry, Quinn, I didn't mean it. I was joking, I'm sure your mother loves you and misses you every day." He said softly, as he reached for her hand.
He really felt terrible about what he said. "I'm really sorry." He repeated, getting closer to her, trying to hug her.
Quinn couldn't hold it any longer and burst out laughing. "Sucker! I can't believe you fell for that."
Puck didn't know how to react for a moment. "You little liar! I can't believe you just did that."
She continued laughing, as he took the remote from here. He pretended to be pissed for a while, but the true was that, in that moment, he fell for her a little bit more.
After lunch, they went to Madame Tussauds' Wax Museum. It was something Ruth wanted to do every time she went to New York, but never really got the chance.
Mrs. Puckerman loved every minute of it, and said she would go again with Sarah, whenever her daughter had the time to visit.
They had planned to go out for dinner, but Ruth said she wasn't up for it. She insisted that the two of them went out anyway. They felt bad about it, but she said that she would just go over to Mrs. Beiste's, Puck's neighbour, and they would play cards, watch a movie or something. Ruth first met Mrs. Beiste when Puck moved to the apartment he currently lives, a couple of years ago. They hit it off immediately, and she always paid her friend a visit when she was in town.
Reluctantly, Puck and Quinn agreed to go out without Ruth. They decided to go to a small, cozy restaurant with live music. Halfway through their meal, they decided to dance to the slow song that the band was playing, just like other couples were doing.
"You know, I'm still hurt about what you did to me this afternoon. Pretending to be upset over what I said was cruel." Puck said, in a teasing tone.
Quinn giggled, taking the opportunity to flirt with him. "Yeah? And how can I make it up to you?" Flirt with Puck became one of her favorite things to do. It was fun and exciting.
He smirked, flirting back. "Well, you tell me."
She leaned into him, pulling lightly at his shirt, so he would lean into her too, making it possible for her to whisper in his ear.
"I'll ride your face all night long." She rasped, he breath tickling his ear.
He was speechless for a moment, but soon whisper back.
"That's more fun for you than it is for me. What do I get?"
She smirked. "If you're good enough, I'll let you fuck me from behind."
That's all he needed to hear.
"Ok, we're out of here."
He threw some money on the table and they left in a hurry.
They got home earlier than they thought they would, and Ruth wasn't there. The pair rushed to Puck's bedroom. They needed to get naked ASAP.
Afterwards, Puck and Quinn were idly chatting.
Puck was sprawled on his bed and Quinn sat close to him.
"Tell me something I don't know about you." He asked, with a hand caressing her hair and a soft smile on her face.
Quinn smirked and looked at him, biting her lower lip.
"I was president of the Celibacy Club in high school."
Puck looked at her in disbelief, like she was joking. Quinn shook her head.
"No, it's true. I lost my virginity when I was 19."
The boy started laughing. "You sure made up for all the time you lost."
"Hey!" Protested the blonde, as she hit him with a pillow before joining in the laughter.
"Well, you're probably right." Continued the blonde, after the laughs died down. "Now it's your turn, tell me something about you."
He looked at her with a straight face. "I faked it. The orgasm. I told you I came, but I lied."
She bursted out laughing, and he joined in. The blonde slapped him playfully.
"Asshole. I was telling the truth!"
"So was I", he said, in a playful tone.
"We can't have that, can we?"
He shook his head, pulling her on top of him. "We can't."
And round 2 started.
The next day, they agreed to have a picnic in Central Park. It would be a lovely way to spend their Sunday.
As Quinn sat there, between Puck and Ruth, sipping on her drink and watching people go by, she felt in complete bliss. Noah was fun and caring, and really respected her. Mrs. Puckerman adored her and treated her like a daughter. She fit in with the Puckerman's. There's nothing more she could've want, right? But then she remembered that this wasn't her life. And the fact that she had to keep reminding herself of that was reason enough to be very concerned. Her fairy tale ended today and she would go back to real life. To clients that didn't care about her and didn't make her laugh. She was dreading it, and that made her realize that she could never see Puck again. Because then, she wouldn't want things she couldn't have. She can't be around a guy that makes her life style seem boring and uneventful. Not when it was actually exciting and unconventional.
She felt a nudge on her shoulder. Puck had a concerned look on his face.
"Are you ok, Quinn?"
She force a smile and nodded.
It was settle then. This was the last time she was going to see Puck. She can't change her whole life because she enjoys the company of a guy. And that's all that is, she enjoys his company. She refuses to even think that she could possibly be falling for him, because there's no such a thing in her line of work.
So, she would enjoy the rest of the day with Puck and Ruth and then move on with her life, as if nothing ever happened with Noah. He was just another client.
