"Harper! Harper, wake up! We're going to be late!"
I slowly got up from bed. I was in a place with wooden walls and big windows. At first I panicked a little, but then I remembered that I was at Auradon Prep, trying to find my family and attend classes while I'm at it. "Oh man! I overslept!"
Carrie nodded. "We better get going." I quickly hopped out of bed when there was a knock at the door. "We're busy!"
"It will only take a minute!" Evelyn's voice rang out.
Carrie sighed. "Fine, come in."
Evelyn walked into the dorm carrying a dry cleaning bag. "I finished Harper's outfit."
I couldn't believe it as I hurried up to her. "Really?! It must have took you all night."
"Actually..." Evelyn said before she yawned, which then made me yawn. I really should've gotten more sleep last night.
Carrie yawned too. "Stop doing that you two! Evelyn, if you really stayed up all night to work on this, maybe you should not go to class today and just sleep in."
"I can't! Daisy and I have to make more deliveries!" Evelyn protested.
I raised an eyebrow. "Daisy?"
"Evelyn's roommate," Carrie answered.
"Ah," I said , then turned to Evelyn. "Evelyn, maybe you should just rest today. It's what Devin would want."
"No way! I have work to do!" Evelyn exclaimed. "Why don't you just get dressed into your new outfit."
"Fine," I said as I took the bag and went into the bathroom.
When I came out, Carrie and Evelyn stood up. "Harper, you look great. "
"You really think so?" I asked as I looked down at my purple and blue outfit.
"I am good, aren't I?" Evelyn bragged. "I'm going to make you a jacket too. I just wasn't settled on a design for you yet."
"Design?" I asked . Then Carrie turned around and showed me the back of the white jacket she was wearing. It had a bone and a wand, crossed to form an X. "Oh."
"We better get going now," Carrie said as she turned around. "There's probably some time to grab something before class. And Evelyn, rest."
Evelyn groaned. "Do I have too?"
"If it helps, we can deliver some of the outfits after we get back from the library," I proposed.
"Alright then," Evelyn gleefully said before yawning and walking out of the room.
"We should get going now," Carrie said.
"Alright," I said as I followed Carrie out of the room. As we walked down the hallway, I looked over at her. "Where did Evelyn get the idea for your jacket?"
"It shows my heritage," Carrie answered. "Daughter of Jane and Carlos De Vil."
I raised an eyebrow. "Who?"
Carrie looked perplexed. "Wow, you really don't know any history, do you?"
I shrugged. "One of the rules in d- Harry's house: No history books."
"Really? Why?"
"Who knows? Also no going farther than a few feet from the house, and no watching tv."
Carrie's eyes widened. "He really wanted to keep the fact that you were kidnapped, didn't he?"
"Or who my family was." Although I knew that Chad was possibly right. I might be Princess Meghan, but what would happen afterwards? I would have to learn procedures and protocal, just like Mia Thermopolis. Not to mention I would have no privacy thanks to the paparazzi.
When we got to science lab, everyone was already in their seat.
"Sorry we're late," Carrie said.
"That's alright Carrie," the teacher said while he turned around. "Just take a seat..." He dropped his chalk when he saw me. Why did I always have that effect on people? "Um, w-who did you say you were again?"
" Harper, " I answered. Strange, that was almost the same reaction as the headmistress had.
"The headmistress said I could bring her with me to my classes," Carrie said.
"Right, of course," the teacher said. "Class, we have a visitor today, so please give her a warm welcome."
As everyone clapped I felt a little self conscious. "Hi everyone, my name's Harper. I'll be attending class with you all today."
"Welcome Harper," the teacher said as he held out his hand. "I'm Mr. De Vil. You may sit next to Carrie for the period."
"Thanks dad, I mean, Mr. De Vil ," Carrie said as she lead me to our table. Her science teacher was her dad? And her mom was the headmistress? Who knew?
"So yeah, my dad's the science teacher," Carrie said as we sat down at the table. "He doesn't play favorites, and he's pretty much in teacher mode right now, but when he's not teaching, he's actually really nice. We even help at the animal shelter on the weekend."
"Really?" I asked. I was surprised that Carrie's dad seemed so nice.
"Girls," Mr. De Vil said as he turned around. "No talking right now."
"Yes Mr. De Vil," Carrie and I said simultaneously.
"Thank you." With that, he turned back to the board. "As I was saying..." As he spoke, I couldn't help but drift into my own thoughts. I was a bit envious of Carrie. Her father always seemed to be there and actually cared for her, unlike my so-called father. But then I reminded myself that it would all change as soon as I found my family.
