Theme Song
One door has closed, another swings (Owen stares into the camera and fades out along with Brooklyn, Molly, and Charizard)
You must grow accustomed to new things (Gray, Durus, Chase, Leviculus, and Fidens replace the others)
It might feel strange, there might be hate (A person in black armor looks at Cerulean Cave, followed by a split screen of them wearing a laughing mask and crying mask)
But you do not want to tempt fate (Gray stares at the sky and eight badges pass by)
Fight back(2x)! Let it go! (Durus, Leviculus, and Fidens charge towards the camera at the same time)
Be strong(2x), put on a show! (Chase and Audino sprint away from a herd of Tauros)
Keep training, you'll be put to the test (Gray has a flashback of losing to Trentavious)
Now is not the time to rest... Pokemon! (Gray, smiles at the camera with Leviculus and Fidens by her side and Durus resting on her head)
Hey there, everyone! I'm back with another chapter, and this one will be focusing on Chase. Last chapter, Gray battled and lost to Brock, who swept her team with his Geodude. Now, let's get going!
Defender31415: Defeatist will definitely make Fidens a lot worse than he should be, but he'll eventually overcome it and turn into a beast
guest: Yeah, all of the gym leaders in this story will be a lot stronger, have type variation, and be more tactical with their approaches, so Gray might lose pretty often. I'm thinking somewhere between two and four times
ShadowDragon9000: This is just the first of many difficult gym battles. The toughest one will end up being... well, I'll keep that a secret for now, but there are going to be some really tough gym battles, even when Gray's team reaches its final stages
Blaze Falcon: Leviculus' time to shine will be coming, but not for a little while, so he won't be going beastmode in any gyms just yet. And it does suck to see Gray lose so terribly, but the next time will be different
MCMXCV: Haha, hopefully Gray kicks his ass, but I doubt it'll happen. All I can say is Brock won't only use rock types ;) As for Chase, he will definitely surprise himself, but he'll kind of put it off in a nonchalant manner
Shion Rasenka: Well, it'll all happen by accident, haha. And Gray really did get beaten down, but there is a very logical explanation (aside from being a rookie... though the answer does factor that in) as to why. Just take a look at a few of Owen's early gym battles, namely from Kalos, and then read Gray's. There should be something that sticks out like a sore thumb
NodokaLover: Brock is very strong in this story, and Durus will most likely stay as a Meowth. With her remaining bipedal, it makes matches easier to write, though I do think she could end up evolving. If she did, it would be a lot later
Elodus: Yeah, with this story I'm going to be focusing on Gray's traveling companions and Pokemon a lot more than I did with Owen's adventures to the point they'll all end up getting chapters centered around them at some point or another, though that might not apply to all of the Pokemon
Gray's team
Durus, (f), level 12, Scratch, Growl, Bite - (Meowth)
Leviculus, (m), level 15, Water Gun, Hypnosis, Bubble - (Poliwag)
Fidens, (m). level 13, Quick Attack, Wing Attack, Rock Throw, Double Team - (Archen)
"Doctor, where are you going?" a nurse asked as she chased after the man that was storming out of the hospital. "You can't leave all of these Pokemon on their own! They'll die!" The man stopped and glared at his assistant before ripping his gloves off his hands and throwing them on the ground in disgust.
"To hell with all of these pests! Why don't you go find yourself a new doctor?" The man then turned and stomped all the way out of the hospital, and the nurse looked around feverishly as dozens of patients looked on in terror, sensing the safety of their Pokemon being jeopardized. The woman quickly glanced out of the automatic doors before hurrying back to the ER, where she had to do her job.

"Cheer up, guys. Remember, that was your first gym battle, and you barely trained for it!" Chase exclaimed while Gray and her Pokemon hung their heads in shame. The group was sitting outside the Pokemon Center by the practice battlefields, but Gray wasn't in the mood to train. Her Pokemon looked just as dejected, if not more so, leaving Chase and Audino as the only happy campers.
"Easy for you to say. Getting beat down in your first real battle sucks," Durus spat as she looked up at the sixteen year old. "When you're forced to stop battling because your opponent doesn't think you can win, talk to me." Leviculus and Fidens nodded in agreement before slamming their faces against the table, and Gray sighed dramatically.
"Maybe this whole trainer thing just isn't meant for me, especially if I can't beat the first gym leader." Chase shook his head in disappointment and opened his mouth to say something, but Audino's voice filled the air.
"Don't say that. Besides, only one of your Pokemon had a type advantage, and Brock has been a gym leader for a few years. You've only been a trainer for a few weeks, not even." Gray looked up at the normal type and a slight smile cracked from her stern demeanor. "You all should train, though, if you want to beat Brock." Gray looked over at her three Pokemon and they all sighed at the idea before hopping out of their chairs and occupying one of the empty battlefields.
"Gray, we're going to head out for a little bit to check out the city. We'll be back in an hour or two," Chase informed the girl, who nodded before stretching. Her Pokemon also started to stretch, and Chase walked away from the Pokemon Center with Audino in tow, who looked at her trainer in confusion. As the two walked past the front of the Pokemon Center, Audino ran in front of the boy and stuck her arms out to her sides.
"Hold up one second, Chase." The boy stopped and looked down at his starter, who stared at him. "Why are you ditching Gray? We could help her train!" the normal type exclaimed, trying to help her trainer in his quest for Gray's affection. Chase, however, chuckled at the concerned Pokemon's suggestion, and he walked past her, which made Audino turn around angrily.
"I figured I'd get her a gift to cheer her up, and I need a girl's help." Audino's ears perked up at the idea, and she ran after her trainer with an excited smile. "First up, let's go to the jewelry store!" After walking a few minutes around the city, Chase found the store he had been searching for - thanks to his Pokedex, which had a GPS system installed - and he walked into the fancy building in awe. Beautiful stones and necklaces were all over the counters, and the bright red walls brought about a fiery aura.
"How may I assist you, sir?" a woman asked, grabbing Chase's attention.
"Uh, yeah. I was thinking of getting a necklace for this girl I know. She just lost her first gym battle, and she's down in the dumps about it." The young redhead smiled at Chase's thinking, and she motioned for him to follow. As he did, Audino stared at the prices on the walls and her jaw hit the ground. She attempted to tell Chase about the astronomical values, but she was in such shock she wasn't able to speak.
"Here are a few options," the woman informed Chase, who looked down at the necklaces. He quickly looked up at the woman with a confused expression, and she tilted her head in concern. "Is something wrong?"
"Yeah. This is your most expensive one, right?" the teen quizzed, pointing at the necklace to the far left of the row. The woman shook her head, and she pointed at the entire row of jewelry with a reluctant expression.
"That's the cheapest, and they only get more expensive." Upon hearing that, Chase swayed left and right before falling on his back, which made everyone in the store look at him. Audino, meanwhile, looked around in embarrassment before dragging her trainer out of the store by his ankles, and she soon helped him up once they were outside.
"They're con artists!" Chase screamed while pointing at the store before storming away. Audino rolled her eyes at Chase's frustration, but she followed the sixteen year old through the streets while he rubbed his head in pain. "Damn, that hurt."
"Well, why don't we go to the hospital? That could buy us some time to think of what your price range is, and then I can tell you if that'll work?" Audino suggested. Chase agreed with the idea and began walking towards the hospital as he continued to rub his head in pain, and Audino followed close behind, not wanting her trainer to suffer another injury.

"Where's the doctor!?"
"How is my Pokemon doing!?"
"Why are we yelling!?"
The nurse from earlier in the day looked around nervously while dozens of trainers crowded around the counter she was sitting behind, and she sweat dropped at the wave of questions.
"Please be patient, the doctor had an emergency with his family, but he'll be back soon!" the woman announced before running into a room that was for the sole use of the staff. Several other nurses, male and female, looked on in concern as they enraged crowd continued to scream, and they began devising a plot to escape the hospital incase the trainers attacked.
"How about we use the emergency exit near the ER? No one would ever suspect that," a man quizzed while looking around at his colleagues, who all nodded in agreement. They stopped, however, when the head nurse looked around and stomped on the ground.
"No way! We're not leaving all of these injured Pokemon unattended! We all have some form of medical education, so let's put it to use and try to help these Pokemon. Let's move, people!" the woman shouted while waving everyone out of the room. All of the other nurses rolled their eyes at their superior, and the woman sighed before glancing over at the angry crowd of people.
"Excuse me?" a friendly voice called, drawing the woman back towards the crowd. Audino and Chase had managed to push themselves to the front of the crowd, and they looked at the woman. "My trainer hit his head on the floor, and we need some help." The head nurse nodded at the normal type and motioned for Audino and Chase to come with her, which they did.
"Wait, why is that kid getting immediate care!?" an angry voice shouted, making the nurse think quickly.
"This is the doctor! He's going to help your Pokemon right away!" With that, the woman grabbed Chase's hand and sprinted towards the ER, where the boy looked around in confusion before seeing all of the severely injured Pokemon screaming in pain, and all of the nurses were flustered by the pressure. "Sorry about that, that was the only way I could get you back here. As you can see, we're having a bit of a problem with our doctor leaving, so no one is able to really help these Pokemon."
"That's terrible," Audino stated, which the nurse nodded at.
"We're trying to alleviate their pain with anesthesia, but it can only do so much. And our nurses aren't trained to perform surgery, so we can't do anything." Hearing the worried tone behind the woman's voice, Chase stopped walking and looked around at the dozens of Pokemon before running over to one, which appeared to be in the most pain.
"Hey, what are you doing?" one of the nurses asked Chase as he pushed her out of the way. The boy scratched his chin while looking at the screaming Pikachu, whose tail had lacerations, most notably near the stem.
"Watch out, let me do this." The teen quickly grabbed a pair of blue gloves, and he threw a small mask over his mouth as Audino ran to his side. The Pokemon's instincts suddenly kicked in as she remembered all of the medical training she and Chase had gone through during school, and the boy looked over at his starter. "You know what to do, Audino. This Pikachu's tail is slightly ripped near the stem that's on its back."
"One second," Audino answered as she began searching for the supplies Chase needed. Within seconds, the Pokemon handed Chase all of the tools he needed, and sweat began to roll down his brow. With precision and quick hands, Chase was able to put stitches in the Pikachu's tail while rubbing it with disinfectant. The teen then ran over to the next Pokemon and pushed the nurse on duty away.
"This Pidgey's wing is shattered." Once again, Audino sprinted over to the supply cabinet, and she handed Chase all of the tools needed to help the Pidgey. While the sixteen year old blew through all of the operations, the nurses stared in awe. Within half an hour, Chase had finished his final surgery, and he threw his gloves into the garbage can, and Audino walked around while checking on the Pokemon, who looked to be in much better shape.
"H-how did you do that?" the head nurse asked in disbelief as Chase began cleaning the tools he had used. After finishing, the teen walked over to the woman and shrugged nonchalantly, completely unaware of how impressive his performance was.
"I don't know. Me and Audino studied every night for a couple of hours and always helped out any injured Pokemon we came by, so it felt natural. Now, can you check on my head? I'm starting to feel woozy." The woman continued to stare at Chase before nodding slowly, and she walked him over to the human area.

"Gray, can we please stop training?" Durus begged as she fell to her knees weakly. "I don't know how much longer I can go."
"Not until we perfect that Metal Claw!" Gray shouted back in frustration. After Chase had left to do whatever it is he said he would, Gray looked up attacks that could be useful against Brock, and Metal Claw was one of them. With Durus being the only one who had claws, she was subjected to the harshest training, while Leviculus and Fidens practiced dodging and countering.
"But I already got it! Why do I have to keep going?" the feline whined as Gray walked over to her. The teen sighed and knelt down while looking her starter in the eyes, and she called her other Pokemon over. The girl then put her arms around her Pokemon, and she looked at each of them.
"I know I've been pushing you guys really hard today, but I don't like what losing feels like, and I doubt you disagree." The three Pokemon nodded at their trainer, and she took a deep breath. "You can be done for today, but if we lose tomorrow, just know you're going to train until you drop." Leviculus and Fidens shot Durus death stares and the normal type sweat dropped nervously. Gray then broke the huddle, and she leaned back to crack her back. While she did so, she noticed Chase and Audino walking towards her and the three fatigued Pokemon.
"What took you so long?" Leviculus asked Audino as she stood next to him. The normal type quickly looked at Chase and waited for him to answer, and the boy began to laugh while rubbing his neck sheepishly.
"To make a long story short, I fell and hit my head, so we went to the hospital," Chase started.
"Are you okay?" Fidens quizzed worriedly, which made Chase laugh lightly.
"Yeah, thanks. Anyways, the doctor apparently quit an hour before we got there, so me and Audino did the operations," Chase concluded proudly. Gray's Pokemon quickly applauded for Chase and Audino, who smiled at the reaction.
"That's so brave! There's no way I could've ever done that," Gray stated, making Chase blush slightly.
"Haha, thanks. So-uh, how did the training go?"
"Great!" Leviculus answered before Gray could open her mouth. "Durus learned how to use Metal Claw, and we picked up some dodging techniques," the water type continued while glancing over at Fidens, who nodded.
"That's right, and we're going to get revenge for our last battle," Fidens proclaimed while thinking about the embarrassing defeat from a few days before. Gray giggled at the confidence her Pokemon were displaying, and she took her badge case out of her backpack before displaying it.
"Remember, guys, after tomorrow, there'll be one last spot to fill." Gray smiled and pointed at the placeholder in the top left corner of the case, and her Pokemon cheered excitedly.

"Deus, the two from Pewter City are back," a woman in shining silver armor announced as she walked into her superior's chamber. An incredibly tall chair's back was facing the woman, and she knelt down, bowing to the person behind the chair.
"Please send them in," a powerful, yet kind voice ordered. The woman nodded and scurried out of the room before Tara and Rory walked in, the younger of the two trembling in fear. After walking down a long, red carpet, the duo knelt before the chair, which was on the top of a platform with a few steps. Suddenly, the enormous chair spun around. A person wearing black armor was revealed, though their face was covered by a laughing mask. "I was told about your failure at the museum. Do you have any valid reasoning for not completing your mission?" the person asked softly.
"Yes, Deus," Rory answered as he rose to his feet after receiving permission. The person behind the masked narrowed their eyes, albeit unnoticeably, at the man, and waited for him to explain. "We were outnumbered, in terms of Pokemon, 4-2." Silence fell upon the enormous room, which was completely white with no windows, and the masked stranger rose to their feet before walking down the few steps that separated them from Rory and Tara. The person then took their mask and flipped it around, and a crying mask covered their face.
"Quite the excuse from such a failure," a much more aggressive voice hissed. Rory flinched at the demonic tone while Tara kept her head down, and the boss began circling around Rory, who continued to stare straight forward. The voice sounded as if it belonged to a completely different person, which made the boss all the more terrifying. "Tell me, Rory, how many times have you made an excuse after a failed mission?"
"We-"
"Thirteen, but who's counting? Haha," the voice behind the mask replied before laughing like a crazed puppet, which added to Rory's fear as he closed his eyes. They soon opened in shock as he felt a powerful hand rest on his shoulder, and he stared at the crying mask in silence. Before he could react, Rory was stabbed in the stomach by an enormous dagger, and the armored person began twisting the blade around as it shot out of Rory's back.
Rory, meanwhile, began coughing up blood, and he started to lose consciousness while hearing a puppet-like laugh as his attacker switched their mask once again. The laughing face returned, and the boss stood over the dying man before kneeling down. His mask was only a few inches away from Rory's face, and the wounded man continued to cough up blood while the person called Deus continued to stare at the victim.
"You have been cleansed of your impurities, my child." Rory's eyes slowly closed after the attacker's words, and Deus' attention shifted to Tara, who was trembling in fear. "You, what's your name?" Deus inquired with a much nicer tone. Despite the person's attempted friendliness, Tara stammered, not wanting to make the person kill her.
"Tara, my lord," the teen replied, her voice trembling as each word escaped her lips. The masked person slowly walked over to the kneeling girl and grabbed her hand before pulling her onto her feet, shocking the teen.
"Please, call me Deus." The girl stared into the laughing mask's eye holes and nodded, but she flinched harshly when Deus' voice rang in her ears. "Please, just say it. I don't like being called by anything else."
"Forgive me, Deus. My name is T-Tara."
"Hmm... Tara. I like that name. Tara..." the masked person slowly turned their back to Tara before glancing over their shoulder to see face her. "You're a new recruit, right?" The girl nodded as tears began to swell in her eyes, and the boss put their dagger away before placing a hand on Tara's shoulder in an attempt to calm her. "As I expected. Tara, there is no need to be worried about meeting your Fate. Rory had been working with us for five years, so he ran out of chances. You, however..." Deus paused and turned around to face the teen. "Will be brought along slowly. I have high expectations for you, though."
"...Thank you, Deus." The girl bowed frightfully before looking back up at the masked loon, and she waited for the leader to speak.
"Are you willing to do anything to help the world become pure?"
"Yes, Deus," Tara answered in fear.
"Wonderful. I will let you know about your next assignment tomorrow morning at seven. Don't be late." Tara nodded at her boss before bowing and walking out of the room, leaving the masked person to themselves. "We will free this world at any cost," the demonic voice hissed as the person switched their masks once again, with the crying face now visible. "The mighty legendaries of Kanto can't hide forever. And when we find them, we will put an end to their threat."
Well, Chase managed to save the day with his knowledge of surgery (unrealistic, I know. But having him want to be a doctor and suck at it doesn't make sense, in my opinion), and he impressed everyone with his skills. I doubt there will be another chapter like this for a really long time, but Chase will continue to show his medical expertise. Also, Team Purity's leader was introduced. Anyways, next chapter will be the conclusion of the Pewter City Arc, and Gray's rematch with Brock. Till next time, peace out.
1) Predictions for next arc's chapters?
2) How do you feel about Deus (the leader of Team Purity)? Is he/she too similar to Frank? I'm going to make sure their differences are highlighted, but they will share some evil qualities. I just wanted to see how you guys feel :)
Next Chapter: "Rocking Brock": Now armed with a much more competent and experienced team, Gray challenges Brock to a rematch. Will she finally be able to claim her first gym badge?
