Chapter 9

(The next day, Loren decides to go for a walk in the park. She hasn't been there lately, so she thought she would go there. She also knew she needed to call her mother. Loren knew it wasn't the best thing to continue to ignore Nora's calls. Truthfully, Loren wasn't ready to deal with the subject that's been causing friction between the two. As much as Loren didn't want to admit it, Melissa was right. Nora and Loren needed to clear the air. Or at least try to, anyway. Loren knew it would take a lot to get past her mother's betrayal)

(Loren decided to call her mom while in the park. There was no one around, so she figured she was okay. When she reaches the bench by the swings, she sits down and rests her purse by her. She takes a deep breath and briefly closes her eyes as she dials Nora's number. It rings a few times before her mother picks up on the other end)

Nora: "Hello?"

(Instead of speaking, Loren is at a loss for words. She sighs softly and a few tears form in her eyes. This was a lot harder than she thought)

Nora: "Loren? Is that you?"

(Loren opens her mouth in an attempt to speak, but it's like she's lost her voice. The woman sighs sadly)

Nora: "Loren, please talk to me. I miss you. It's been so long since we last talked."

Loren: (tearfully scoffs) "You mean when you said you believed him over me? You believed him over your own daughter."

Nora: (tearfully) "I'm sorry, honey. I should have believed you."

Loren: (angrily) "You know I would never lie to you, mom. I don't know why you'd think I'd start now."

Nora: (sighs) "Trent has never lied, either, Loren. I wanted to believe you, because you're right, you've never lied to me. But before the affair, he never did, either. I didn't know who to believe,"

Loren: (frustratedly) "Really? Trent never lied to you before you had proof he cheated on you? Are you sure about that?"

Nora: (sighs deeply) "Loren..."

Loren: (chuckles in disbelief) "Yeah, that's what I thought. If he is so 'perfect' as you sometimes said, then why he did tell you 'little white lies' as you'd call them?"

Nora: (sighs frustratedly) "No one is perfect, Loren."

Loren: (sarcastically) "No, just Trent."

Nora: "Loren, I can't go back and change things. As much as I'd like to, what's done is done. I'm sorry I hurt you. I will forever be sorry."

Loren: (sniffles) "Well, sometimes 'sorry' isn't good enough, mom. You really hurt me that day."

(Loren stops talking as she can't hold back the tears any longer. Nora can't take it anymore and softly cries, too)

Nora: "What can I do, Loren, to help us get past this?"

Loren: (tearfully) "Nothing. There's nothing you can do." (chuckles dryly) "I don't even know why I called."

Nora: "I'm glad you did. I missed hearing your voice." (hopeful tone) "I would love to see you in person."

Loren: (shakes her head) "No. I'm not ready yet. I know I should probably get over my feelings, but it's too hard right now." (sadly) "I miss you. I miss talking to you about things in my life. You're my mom. I will love you no matter what. But I...I just can't forgive you. Not right now." (whispers) "Goodbye."

(Loren ends the call and breaks down. She covers her face as she continues to be in tears)

Guy: "Loren? Loren, is that you?"

(Loren doesn't hear the guy coming towards her as she's in her own little world. The guy walks slowly to the bench and sits down. He attempts to comfort her by massaging her back with his hand. She jumps up in shock from the touch as she wasn't aware anyone was there by her. She lifts her face from her hands to see who it is, revealing Eddie. It's obvious she's still in a daze)

Loren: (puzzled) "Eddie?"

(Eddie nods as he continues to try comforting her. His heart breaks as he watches the tears fall. He looks at her bright red cheeks before meeting her eyes)

Eddie: (sighs sadly) "What happened? Do you want to talk about it?"

(Loren attempts to wipe the tears off her face. That backfires when more fall)

Loren: (sniffles) "Can you told me?" (chuckles nervously) "I'm sorry if that sounds dumb."

Eddie: (shakes his head) "It's not dumb at all." (sighs sadly) "I hate seeing you in pain."

(Eddie scoots over so he is closer to her. He wraps his arms around her. She breaks down once more with Eddie saying soothing words to her. He didn't know what made her this upset. If he ever met this person, he promised to have some choice words for them)
