Chapter 9: Complete Chaos
The Ferret Weasel Experience- Chapter nine
The class was silent as none of the dared to speak, because it seemed as Draco was on the warpath, giving the class ice filled glares. Tentatively a shy girl, at least by Gryffindor standards, raised her hand.
"Yes, Miss…? Draco asked.
"Jerely, sir."
"Yes, Miss Jerely?"
"Sir, what will we be doing this class?"
"What will we be doing this class? Well, Miss Jerely, you and your classmates will be composing an essay. I want three full scrolls to be handed in either the end of class if you are finished or the beginning of next class. No exceptions on the due date It will be on what you have done in other years to give myself and Professor Weasley an idea of where to begin with you."
A Gryffindor who was quite similar to Hermione in personality, but different in looks being blonde haired, raised her hand and asked "Does spelling and grammar count?'
"They've always counted before Miss. Karmaen. There is no reason why they wouldn't now."
A collective groan was heard from the class. There were also perhaps a few mutterings of prat or wanker very quietly so as to not rouse the professors' attention.
"There will be none of that in my class," Ginny said while giving the class a sharp glare. This was her first class. It wouldn't do well for them to see her be too lenient.
"Now, I suggest you get to work!" Draco hollered while clapping his hands together.
After supervising the class to ensure that they took out their supplies and began to put quill to parchment, the pair went and sat at the desk to confer about their project and the mystery it held.
"Draco?"
"Yes, Ginny?" Draco asked, looking at Ginny intently.
"Do you think that we should look for the portrait tonight?"
"Well, I'd consider that'd be a good idea."
"Where should we start?"
"How about on the ground floor?"
"Sounds like a plan. We'll set off at six? We can eat supper early if we go to the Great Hall. Dumbledore will surely forgive us if we aren't at supper the whole time."
"All right. Now, Ginny I am going to tell you something. You have to promise me you will not get mad. I don't want any of that fiery temper of yours."
"Why? Draco? Is something wrong?"
"Yes… but no?" Draco said slowly. He looked uncertain, and kept glancing around to stall for time.
"Okay," Ginny said cautiously, "Just tell me already."
"Well last night, after you went to bed, I looked at the second scroll. I know I said I wouldn't, but curiosity got the better of me and—"
"Draco! Why didn't you tell me what it said? Come on! Spill!"
"I'm sorry... wait a moment, you aren't mad?"
"Nope. Not really. More curious than anything. Now, tell me, what did it say?"
"It said something along the lines of, From the tops of the towers, To the ends of the grounds, There are still many mysteries, That shall be found. This shall be puzzling until the founders are found, From their perch on the floor titled the ground."
"So that's why you suggested the ground floor."
"Yes. That would be why."
"Ok, so we are still going to look. Perhaps we could start at the East End of the floor and work our way to the West. I know a portrait on that floor. Perhaps he could help us."
"He? Does Ginny have a portrait boyfriend? One that she visits all the time?" Draco mused, making love sick faces mimicking what he thought Ginny would do.
"No," laughed Ginny, "He's just an ancestor of mine. He recognized me by my hair color one day. He was quite glad to see that we have such a strong line. He was especially surprised to hear that I had six older brothers."
"I see."
Ginny then glanced at the clock and saw that they had but five minutes left. Their short talk took longer than they thought.
"If you all could pack up now, you may leave."
The students then hurried to pack up, eager to get out of the classroom and to head to lunch.
Ginny and Draco also exited the classroom and went to lunch following the crowds of hungry students and the occasional teacher, being led by the smells of whatever goodies the elves had prepared that day.
They continued to walk but soon noticed that everyone had stopped. Ginny and Draco pushed their way to the front and were horrified by what they saw. It was a dead cat. Its' side was ripped open and its' intestines were showing. Ginny, trying to control the situation, morphed into leader mode cast a Sonorus on herself to say,
"Everyone walk back down that corridor. Turn left and then right to find yourself next the main chamber near the Great Hall. From there you can easily find your way to your lunch."
Seeing that the students were slow moving, she added, "Hurry along before I find a reason to take points off."
She cast the counter charm of Quietus and once again surveyed the mess in front of her. It was rather gruesome. Quite quickly, Dumbledore appeared to their sides, looking at the sight in front of him over his half-moon spectacles. He must have over heard the students as they were entering the hall.
"Miss Weasley?" Dumbledore asked in a mellow tone. He switched his gaze from the cat to Ginny and Draco, who were standing side by side, trying, and failing to not stare at the cat.
"Yes, Professor?"
"Were you here when this happened?" Dumbledore was gazing at them intently, as if he could glean the answer simply by watching them.
"No sir, we were walking on the way to lunch when suddenly the throng of students seemed to stop. Draco and I pushed our way to the front to see what was amiss. When we found our way to the front, this is what we saw. We didn't touch anything. No one did."
"Very well. You two head to the Great Hall while I get this mess cleaned up. Can't have this hanging about all day. I'm sure that Mr. Filch is around here somewhere."
"Ok, bye Professor. Let us know if you need us to do anything."
"Thank you Miss Weasley, but that shan't be necessary."
As soon as the pair were out of ear shot of Dumbledore, Draco whispered, "What was that all about? Who would want to eviscerate a cat?"
"I have no clue. Although I don't think I will be able to eat much, that is if I can stomach anything. Guts and blood are not really a good appetizer."
"I agree with you on that one. But, I suppose we should go into the Great Hall anyway. Perhaps we will find out what happened. You never know what we may over hear."
"Ok, come on then." Ginny said as they rounded the corner and entered the Hall.
Inside the Hall it was close to chaos. Everyone was talking loudly, no one was seated and it seemed as if all the other professors had gone after Dumbledore. Draco must have decided that enough was enough so he cast a very quick Sonorus and then yelled
"Everyone, silence! Sit at your house tables and sit there until Professor Dumbledore returns!"
"That will not be necessary Mr. Malfoy, as I am back."
