Chapter Eight:
"Nii-san...Dawn...Jack...Double D...Can anyone hear me?" Kimiko shouted in her communicator after she heard an ear splitting gun shot coming from the others communicators.
Deep within the forest; Hunter had just aimed down his shotgun in front of a nearby vampire then a blinding flash of light erupted from the end of the barrel and a loud (BANG) followed after. The vampire flew backwards straight into a tree ; the creature let out a painful moan in it's final moments of life until it disintegrated into a pile of ashes on the ground. Then two more vampires dropped in from above the treeline above Hunter. The young monster slayer quickly aimed his shotgun towards the oncoming creature and quickly pulled down the trigger.
"Shit!" Hunter said in a low whisper as a small clicking noise came from his beloved shotgun.
He quickly threw it to the side and leapt into the air while reaching for the inside of his trench coat. As he was inches away from meeting the blood sucking fiends; the young monster hunter quickly pulled out a pair of twin pistols and stretched out his arms until each of the vampires came face to face with the barrel of a pistol.
BANG...BANG...BANG..BANG
Four bullets penetrated through each of the vampires foreheads and spat out a red mist of blood from the back of the creatures skulls. As they slowly denigrated into dust; Hunter slowly spun his body forward until he was completely upside down. As he did this; he ejected the magazines from his pistols while sliding two brand new magazines from the sleeves of of his coat into the pistols. Once the new magazines were loaded in; Hunter sent our a barrage of bullets towards two more vampires that were flying towards him from the ground.
"Can we keep her sir?" One of the vampires said as a small group of them surrounded Dawn.
"It's been so long since I've enjoyed the pleasure of a female from our kind."
The young vampire's left eye began to twitch, two small fangs slowly grew in front of her mouth, her blue eyes slowly became a blood shot red, and her skin went from a light golden brown to a pale white color. The group of vampires became terrified at the sight of Dawn's transformation.
"HOW DARE YOU SPEAK OF ME LIKE THAT!" Dawn shouted in a fit of rage. "You ingrates better pray for mercy to whatever deity you foul creatures worship. BECAUSE NONE OF YOU WILL BE GETTING ANY FROM ME!"
The young vampire quickly leapt high above the group of vampires while the bright glowing light of the crescent moon shined brightly behind her. The band of of vampires were shocked as Dawn slowly disappeared behind an incoming flock of bats. The flock then quickly dove towards the horde of vampires; and slowly circled each of the blood sucking demons. The creatures cried out in pain; as each of the bats slowly tore pieces of their flesh off with just their fangs. One by one the vampire horde dropped to the ground as each of the bats devoured their skin and drained their bodies of blood.
As the vampire from earlier witnessed this horror to it's comrades; it feared for it's own being as it tried to flee the scene in a hasty retreat. The entire flock of bats gathered once again and gave chase to the frightful vampire. The blood sucking fiend ran with all it's might but to no avail; the swarm of bats caught up to the vampire and slowly entrapped it within their flock. The creature struggle to free itself from the bats grasp; but a sudden feeling of fear over came it when the vampire noticed Dawn's silhouette hovering above it.
The young vampire was sitting on top another flock of bats with her legs crisscrossed and her upper body leaning backwards with her arms supporting her. She leaned forward and gently wrapped her left hand underneath the vampire's chin and pulled it's head closer to her's.
"Do you still seek pleasure from me?" Dawn asked in a low seductive tone.
The creature was to afraid to respond; and with one gesture of her hand. The flock of bats slowly devoured the vampire .
Meanwhile as Jack and I were fighting off the remaining hive forces; we stood back to back covering each others blind spots. Jack did a barrel roll over my back as he swung his staff against the side of a vampire's face; causing some of it's teeth to fly right out of it's mouth.
I spun both my swords behind me and quickly lunged my blades as hard as I could straight through the torso of an incoming vampire from behind me.
"To your side!" Both Jack and I shouted each other.
I performed a spiral jump towards the right side of us; while Jack leapt to the left side and pointed his staff towards two more vampires.
"Burning Cyclone!" Jack shouted.
A small fire ignited from the tip of his staff; it then ignited into a massive burning spiraling cyclone that engulfed the two vampires. As I spun myself through the air I swung my right blade straight through the closest vampire to me. It's upper and lower bodies were severed and the vampire had slowly disintegrated into a pile of ashes. I spun my left blade around and quickly threw it straight into the head of another vampire; as it dropped to it's knees I ran towards the remaining vampire. It raised it's fists and quickly jabbed it's left fist towards me; I swayed my upper body to the right side and avoided the vampire's punch. I then tightly clenched my right fist as tightly as I could and threw it against the blood sucking monster's jaw and sent it flying into the air. Jack quickly ran towards where I was; but raised his staff as though he was holding a pole volt. He quickly gained momentum and launched himself into the air; as he ascended into the air. He held onto his staff while spinning his entire body forward. Once he was above the creature he used the momentum he had gained and quickly slammed his staff against the vampire's torso. Even from where I was standing only a couple of feet below the two; I could here the bones inside the vampire's chest crack from the force behind Jack's attack.
As the vampire crashed into the earth; it tried with all it's might to draw in air with its broken lungs. Jack then pulled back on his staff and used all his might to throw it straight towards the vampire's chest. The creature had a horrified look on his face as it saw it's doom rapidly approaching it. One blood curdling scream; and a pile of burning ashes later; the vampire ceased to exist.
Once Jack had returned to the ground; he pulled his staff out of the ground and slowly approached me; where we both exchanged a well deserved fist bump with each other.
"Hey; we broke our record for beating a swarm of vampires." Jack said as he wrote down the time on a small note pad while Hunter and Dawn slowly rejoined us.
"Everyone alright?" I asked as I rested my left palm on top of the handle of one of my swords; while I laid the back end of my other sword on my right shoulder.
"A little offended...But otherwise alright." Dawn said as she slowly returned to her normal form.
"I can't believe I had to throw old reliable to the side like that." Hunter said as he carefully petted his shot gun.
"Hey...Is...Nyone...Mere...Mellow..." I heard coming from my communicator.
"We read ya Kimiko." I replied.
"Thank God; Do you know how much I was worried about you guys. You could've at least sent a text saying you were alright...SHEESH" Kimiko said in an annoyed yet relieved tone.
"Sorry little sister; guess we lost connection with each other during the fight."
"Are all you of alright?" Kimiko asked.
"Yeah; it took us a little longer than we expected. But we were able to take out the entire hive." Dawn replied into her communicator.
"Really!" Kimiko said in a shocking matter. "Then I guess I owe Jack five bucks."
As we all broke into a gut busting laugh; I got an unnerving feeling deep within my gut. I can't really explain it; but ever since I became a werewolf I get these feelings. Like a sixth sense; that tells me that something bad is about to happen. Suddenly I could feel small vibrations coming from below the ground.
"An earthquake?" I asked myself.
Just before I could blow it off as nothing; the vibrations became more intense as if something was rapidly approaching us.
"Guys..." I said with a nervous look on my face.
As everyone turned their attention towards me; the whole world around us began to slow down like a slow motion scene in a big summer block buster movie. The ground below us erupted as huge clumps of dirt flew in every direction. Jack and I were able to leap backwards into the air just as whatever it was bursted through the ground. We were able to safely land on a nearby tree branch; while Hunter instinctively grabbed onto Dawn by her waist and rode on the back of a huge clump of dirt into the air.
"HUNTER!" Dawn shouted as she pointed towards the incoming oak tree that they were about to crash into.
"HOLD ON!" Hunter shouted back as he quickly spun the two of them around until his back was facing the base of the oak.
The force of the impact was so great that it shook the vary base of the of the massive oak tree; while a huge cloud of dust swallowed up Hunter and Dawn. From the patch of earth that we were all previously standing on; two massive creatures emerged from the below the ground as they slowly climbed their way on to the surface. The creatures let out one of the most bizarre screeches that I have ever heard.
"DOUBLE D...PLEASE DON'T TELL ME THOSE ARE..." Jack shouted to me.
From what I could gather; the creatures roughly stood the same size as an elephant; but they didn't have any eyes or ears what so ever. Judging from the size of their nostrils; these creatures depended their senses of smell to help them in their daily lives. Their skin color was a pale white; but the thick layers of skin above their backs, and the sides of the their legs were a dark gray color.
"Yup...Hive guardians..." I said with displeasing look.
"I should have known; this was too easy." Jack replied while he tightly clenched his right fist until his knuckles began to pop.
"HEY...YOU GUYS OKAY!" I shouted towards Hunter and Dawn.
As the cloud of dust that was circling around them slowly cleared away; both Jack and I could see Dawn wrapped tightly within Hunter's arms. As she shook the disorientation out of her head. She quickly turned her attention towards Hunter. She noticed that he was wincing in pain; he tightly gritted his teeth against each other while trying to resist the urge to scream out in agonizing pain. She couldn't understand why Hunter was in so much pain; that is until she turned her attention towards his arm.
"Hunter; your shoulder!" Dawn said with a terrified look in her eyes.
His entire right shoulder was covered in blood; while a huge lump was sticking out of the side of where his shoulder should have been.
"Dawn...I can't move it...I think...It's dislocated." Hunter said with a wince.
Dawn quickly got on her feet and rushed to his side; she quickly examined his injuries and noticed the busing and swelling surrounding his shoulder.
"Luckily your arm isn't broken; but you're right it is dislocated." Dawn said as she examined his shoulder some more. "I can put it back in place; but it's gonna hurt like crazy when I do." Dawn said as she cuffed the palms of her arms around Hunter's shoulder.
"Eh...I can handle a little pain." Hunter said as he gave a reassuring smile while giving a thumbs up with his other hand.
Dawn tightened her grip around Hunter's shoulder and with one quick motion and couple of crackling noises;. she was able to relocate Hunter's shoulder back in place.
"AAAggghh...Son'ova...Urrrrgh." Hunter cried out.
"I told you it was gonna hurt." Dawn replied.
She then wrapped Hunter's arm behind her neck and slowly got him back on his feet.
"I still got no feeling in it Dawn." Hunter said as he quickly pulled out his pistol with his other arm. "But I only need one to shoot a gun at those things." He said aimed the barrel down towards the closest hive guardian.
"Hunter wait!" Dawn shouted.
Hunter quickly pulled down on the trigger and sent a hail storm of bullets towards the hive guardian. But to his shock every single bullet was deflected against the guardian's thick layer of skin; none of his bullets hadn't even made a scratch against the surface of the guardian's armor.
"Hunter there's a reason why those guardians have a thick layer of skin on top of them. So unless you have a couple armor piercing rounds on you; those bullets won't even make a dent!" I shouted towards.
"Crap...And I was gonna bring my armor piercing rounds too. I mean there they were sitting on top of my desk; practically begging for me to take them but noooo I had to be like." "Oh we won't be going up against anything wearing armor tonight."
"HEADS UP!" Both Jack and I shouted.
Suddenly the same hive guardian that Hunter had shout at before; quickly twist itself around; while opening its massive sized mouth. Both Dawn and Hunter noticed a light green colored fluid that the guardian was gargling in the back of it's throat.
"We have to move...NOW!" Dawn shouted as she braced Hunter's arm and lifted the both of them into the air.
The massive beast then spewed a steady stream of boiling acid straight towards the base of the oak tree. Once the acid came into contact with the tree; the hot liquid ate straight through the haul and within seconds the massive oak tree came crashing down on to the forest floor.
Dawn and Hunter landed safely on a massive boulder a couple of feet away from where the oak tree once stood; then Jack and I quickly leapt over towards them and regrouped.
"You guys okay?" Jack asked.
"No; Hunter's shoulder was dislocated in the crash ." Dawn said as she gently sat Hunter on the ground.
"Yeah; and I still don't have any feeling in it yet." Hunter added as he tightly held onto his shoulder with his other arm.
I quickly turned my attention back towards the hive guardians; I noticed that they hadn't caught our scents yet.
"Guys we're gonna need a plan; and we need one now!" I said as I pointed towards the the hive guardians.
"So standard ammunition won't be able to penetrate the guardians armor." Hunter said while everyone turned their attention towards the hive guardians.
"That could also imply any physical attacks as well." Dawn added.
"Dawn are you able to enter your vampire form again?" I asked.
"Eddward; I'm a vampire that doesn't feast as much as other vampires do. So unless I can get a drop of fresh blood into my system; I won't be able to enter my vampire form for another twenty four hours."
"What do you got planned Night Fang?" Jack asked.
I looked back towards the hive guardians; I noticed how they grew more rampant. They were only mere moments from picking up on our scents.
"We don't have a lot of time for me to explain; so Hunter take these." I said as I quickly dug into my pocket and pulled out four golden glowing bullets.
"Are those..." Hunter began to say.
"Yup; Sun Stone bullets." I replied. "Put these in the your magazine and wait for me to say." "Fire." "Before you use them; and before you bandage up those wounds let Dawn take a drop of blood from you. We're gonna need your bats for my plan Dawn."
"Why?" Dawn asked.
"Cause you and I are going to use the hive guardians acid against each other; and once we get that taken care of. We're gonna peel the hive guardians armor off of them and have Hunter use the Sun Stone Bullets on them."
"Wait I can understand how Dawn could peel the guardians armor off with her bats; but how are you gonna peel those thick heavy layers off of them?" Hunter asked.
I Slowly pulled out my amulet from underneath my shirt; everyone had a shocked look on their faces as I held onto it.
"Double D you can't be serious!" Jack shouted.
"I hate the idea as much as you do Jack; but the fact is we're going to need this power if we want to survive." I said as I slowly turned the nob on the side.
One click...Two clicks...Three clicks...Four clicks...Five clicks...
"Double D; you know what happened the last time you used that power right?" Jack asked more nervously.
Six clicks...Seven clicks...Eight clicks...Nine clicks...Ten clicks...
"Yeah I know; that's why I'm only going up to fifteen percent this time. I know I can control myself at fifteen percent." I replied.
Eleven clicks...Twelve clicks...
"Wait what the heck are you guys talking about? And what's Double D doing with the amulet?" Hunter asked.
Thirteen clicks...
"Double D is going to use his werewolf powers." Dawn replied with an unsure look on her face.
Fourteen clicks...
"You guys just get Hunter to safety; Dawn I'll need your help soon. So I'll tell you when you need to get some blood from Hunter. That way you and and I can take on the guardians." I said as I slowly pulled the nob halfway on the last click.
"One more thing you guys..." I said just as the final clicking noise came. "You might want to stand back."
Suddenly a massive build up of pressure began to gather around myself; while a black and purple colored aura was emitting from my body. The muscles in both my forearms began to spasm until they grew a couple of inches.
It didn't take long for the hive guardians to pick up on what was going on; as they both quickly turned their attention towards me. The glowing aura from before had vanished and was replaced by a cloud of steam that had engulfed my entire body. Both hive guardians wasted no time and ran towards me at full speed while aiming their heads down at the same time. I began to sprint towards the two charging hive guardians. I slowly increased my momentum until I was running faster and faster; eventually I was running at speeds that no ordinary human could reach on their own. Within moments the two rampaging hive guardians and I met head on; in an earth shaking collision. The force of the impact was so great; that it shook the entire mountain side while a massive ploom of dust and debris had erupted high above the forest.
