Chapter 09: Unknown Attack

"What the hell are they doing here?" growled Renji, his eyes set on the targets ahead.

"Who knows," answered Rukia, narrowing her focus, "but standing here won't give us the answers."

The demon slayer came closer to the window, observing the two pale looking beings on top of the hollow. She felt the monk walk beside her and whispered: "Are…they human?"

"Hmm, good question," he whispered back his answer.

Kagome quickly noticed the slight tug on Grimmjow's lips, forming a smirk. A shiver ran up and down her spine upon making eye contact with his aqua orbs.

"You think they are here for Inoue again?" Renji came to straighten his position, seeing that the earthquake had finally subsided.

"I don't think so," answered Ichigo, glaring at his opponents. "They both know very well she is not here."

In a blink of an eye, they all took a step back as Grimmjow flash stepped in front of them on the other side of the window. Only with the thin layer of glass dividing their distance, Inuyasha's eyes widened: "H-How the hell-!?"

The glass shattered without anyone making a movement, only having everyone take cover with their arms from pieces of glass getting into their eyes.

Peeking out from his arms, the monk watched Grimmjow stepped on the shattered glass and walked inside the classroom. "Who…are you?"

Scoffing at his question, he caught Kagome's eyes with his and smirked at seeing the fear expanded within her orbs. With the mission he was given, his only priority was to look into her eyes.

Kagome's eyes widened as she felt a short yet sharp pain in her chest that made her fall to her knees. Sango looked over her shoulder, seeing her dear friend fall: "K-Kagome-chan!?" She knelt down to her side, watching as the miko clutched her chest.

"Kagome!" shouted Inuyasha. He turned his attention with a growl to his unknown enemies, only to find the place free of danger. Both Inuyasha and Ichigo looked around to see nothing but shattered glass. "Dammit! Where the hell did they go!?"

Sango placed her arm around her friend's shoulders, shaking her to get a response: "Kagome-chan! Kagome-chan!"

The miko's vision began to blur before slowly losing focus and control of her conscious. Sango quickly grabbed her in her arms: "K-Kagome-chan!"

Inuyasha turned around: "W-What is wrong!?"

Ichigo stood silent with wide eyes of worry to see the miko collapsed on the demon slayer's arms. Rukia took a step forward towards the female: "W-What happened?"

Growling under his breath, Inuyasha's eyes hid behind his bangs. The hanyou curled his fingers inside to a fist: "Who is he?"

Ichigo turned his head towards him; no answer.

"Who the hell is he, bastard!?" Inuyasha caught Ichigo by his collar and brought him closer.

Ichigo glared back: "Let me go."

The petite Shinigami came in between and pushed them away. Her gaze tightened: "Both of you stop acting like children! We don't have time for this!"

Renji knelt down to observe Kagome's condition: "She was clutching at her chest."

Looking over her shoulder, Rukia's eyes watched the unconscious miko in the demon slayer's arms. "I think it is best to take her to Soul Society."

"Are you crazy?!" exclaimed Ichigo as he turned to face the female Shinigami. "Do you even know how furious they will get!?"

"We have no choice!" she shouted back, knowing time was of the essence.

"They are alive…," whispered Renji as he stood and looked at the shattered glass. "What does Aizen have planned now?"

"I don't know," answered Rukia, her eyes set outside the window. "But warning Soul Society is the best choice right now."

The hanyou walked over to the unconscious miko and picked her up bridal style, watching as the demon slayer checked Kagome's facial features.

"She is looking pale," she whispered. "Her breathing is becoming uneven as well…"

"Then let us go before the students return from lunch," Rukia sighed and looked at the mess around. "We would not have a proper answer to this destruction."

"Right," nodded Ichigo. "Then let's go."

Carefully laying Kagome onto her bed, Inuyasha's eyebrows furrowed to see the discomfort pain on her expression. Although they had escaped from explanations to her family since no one was around, they were still empty with reasons as to why she had fainted. The hanyou slowly made his way downstairs, watching as everyone circled around the living room silently.

"Is…okaa-san going to be okay?" blinked Shippou worriedly towards the sitting monk.

With a small nod, the monk gave him a reassuring smile: "I am sure Kagome-sama will be up soon."

Ichigo's eyes were caught towards the hanyou as he took the last step down the stairs. His brown orbs met the hanyou's golden gaze.

"How is she?" questioned the orange head.

"She is still unconscious," he replied, walking past him.

"The true question is what those two Espada are doing here," Renji crossed his legs, leaning back against the couch. "Those two were supposed to be dead after the war against Aizen."

"Aizen was able to escape after that last battle," Rukia placed her hand on her chin, thinking to herself. "I am very curious how he was able to revive the Espada."

"Who are they?" Miroku turned his attention to the two Shinigami.

Sighing under her breath, Rukia closed her eyes: "I guess the best way to explain it is simply 'followers' of one of our enemies – Aizen. They are called Espadas, a higher form of Arrancars. Although we only witnessed two of them…I am afraid to know if Aizen revived all ten of them."

"You mentioned them…being revived," Sango's eyes blinked.

"We were sure they were all killed," whispered Rukia, grabbing Renji's attention.

"No doubt it is Naraku's doing," Inuyasha cut in, catching everyone's eyes onto his person.

Miroku turned his attention to the hanyou in disguise: "Naraku…?"

"He has the jewel in his possession," added Inuyasha as he crossed his arms. "Although it isn't complete, that jewel definitely still has power to revive people. If these Shinigami say those stupid Espada or whatever were dead…Naraku must have something to do with their revival."

"Makes sense," whispered Miroku, his eyes blinking back down to the floor in thought.

Rukia sighed, looking out the living room's window: "So Aizen has teamed up with Naraku. This is not good…"

Ichigo's eyes glided over to the dark passage up the stairs where the miko laid. 'A new war has begun…'

Numb; completely numb. Her body ached and all she could do was open her eyes slowly. Her sights glued onto the familiar ceiling of her room. With the little strength she had, the miko slowly sat up on her bed and held her head in her palm.

'Ugh…what happened to me?'

She returned on her task to observe her familiar surroundings. Had she fallen asleep after school? She couldn't remember everything clearly. As carefully as she could, she stood from her bed and opened the door for her exit.

Her ears picked up…nothing. No sound. Closing the door behind her, she made her way downstairs. The area was completely submerged in darkness.

'Is everyone asleep?' she questioned herself and made her way to the kitchen. 'Did I really just sleep through the whole day?' She blinked as she noticed the entire house being completely empty. 'Huh…weird,' Kagome slowly turned around and screamed at the horror before her.

Covering her lips, she continued to stare at the still body on the ground under a puddle of blood. Death had consumed the body. Upon taking a closer look at the person, Kagome gasped.

'T-That's me…!' Kagome quickly turned around to make a run only to be faced with a mirror with her reflection. Her eyes darted to inspect the reflective glass and realized that it was only a regular mirror. She took notice of the tattoo number on her neck. "W-What is this…?"

The miko froze watching a hang lightly come to graze her tattoo lightly under the hand's fingertips. Gliding her eyes upwards in the reflection, she watched a golden eyes appeared behind her along with sleek brown hair. The smirk on the male's face inched closer to her ear. She couldn't move. She couldn't push the man away. All she could do was listen to his words.

"Mine…,"

Kagome quickly snapped her eyes open, feeling the cold sweat slowly run down her forehead. The miko turned her face side to side and realized her current position. She was in bed in her room. In the process of making her breathing even, she slowly sat up under her covers and placed her forehead onto her palm.

"Are you alright?"

The questioned miko looked up and blinked at the substitute Shinigami coming in.

"I-Ichigo-kun…," she caught notice of the glass of water in his hand. Shaking her head, she rested her back onto the back board of her bed. "What time is it?"

"If your next question is how long you have been sleeping, the answer is five."

"Five minutes?" blinked Kagome.

"Hours."

"N-Nani!?" exclaimed Kagome, quickly regretting her scream as she held her held.

Chuckling at her behavior, Ichigo set the cup of water on her night stand and pulled her desk chair to sit by her. He noticed her silence while staring at her lap. His elbows came to rest on his knees: "Are you feeling okay?"

"Huh?" Kagome's head snapped slightly to face him. "Oh yeah…just thinking."

"About?"

"The dream…I just had," she whispered. The dream was still so vivid and frightening. Slowly her hand raised to touch her neck where she had seen the tattoo.

"What's wrong?" he questioned, seeing her abnormal behavior.

"Nothing, really…nothing," she sent him a smile.

"Hm," he raised an eyebrow, "do you mind me asking what happened to you back there?"

"Huh?" she blinked, having no idea what he was asking.

"Back at school before you fainted, Grimmjow made eye contact with you, right? What did he do?" he asked again.

"Grimmjow?" she repeated the foreign name. All the events that had occurred came rushing into her, making her realize what he was questioning. "Oh right…the guy with the blue hair…"

"Do you remember what he did?"

She shook her head slowly, returning her gaze to her lap. "No. All I remember is…pain."

"Pain?" Ichigo whispered. "Where?"

In response, Kagome's hand came to touch her chest.

He sighed: "Does it still hurt?"

She shook her head again. Ichigo noticed the worry and fright coming into her eyes only making his own eyebrows furrow. Instinct took over him as his hand was placed over hers on her lap, catching her attention with a slight blush.

"I-Ichigo-kun…?"

"All I can do right now is…apologize…"

Walking into the dark alley, the sixth Espada's lips stretched into a grin: "Can't believe that actually worked with the girl."

His eyes watched from the corner as the fourth Espada made his way deeper into the alley – silently. Grimmjow scoffed, resting his hands behinds his head: "Not sure what is so special about that girl."

"Oh, she is very special."

Both Espadas halted in their steps and watched as a male emerged from the shadows cloaked in white fur and a baboon mask covering his face.

"That girl is a special kind to this earth and not many are left. We are to treat her with delicacy," the mysterious male removed his mask, smirking with his red orbs shining with corruption. "I am hoping the plan worked?"

Ulquiorra bowed slightly: "She fell unconscious at the sight of us."

The smirk on the dark hanyou grew: "Good to hear that the shard behind your necks reacted to her miko-ki. Quite a tragedy that she only she can become affected by it when the shard glows."

"So this girl, Kagome, will be useful to us?"

All eyes were set on the male coming cloaked in white garments, his golden orbs set on the hanyou.

"I assure you that having her on our side will become a great benefit, Aizen. Imagine the despair and sorrow her friends will go through when she is set to kill them."
