He felt like he was lying on something soft. He gets confused because his bed has never been this soft before. He opens his eyes and looks around. He realizes he is in Arthur's bedroom and sleeping on Arthur's bed. He looks beside him and sees Arthur, who is deep asleep. At first, he is confused about what he is doing in Arthur's bed, and then all the memories of last night come rushing through his mind. He sits up. He still can't believe all that has happened. He still can't believe that he is a Pendragon! That Uther is his father and Arthur is his brother. He looks outside and sees it is early in the morning. He gets out of bed and goes to stand by the window. As it is so early morning, very few people are outside; most are still sleeping.

He keeps on thinking about the previous night and realizes that he needs to talk to his mother. Yes, he understands Gaius' reasoning about not telling him about his birth, but Gaius didn't know how he grew up. Gaius didn't know what kind of fear had been instilled inside him about the Pendragons, Uther, and Camelot. He needs to know why his mother instilled such beliefs in him when he, himself, is a Pendragon. He really needs to face his mother and talk to her about it. He needs to know! So he decides to ride out to Ealdor and confront his mother. He strides towards the door, ready to leave, and then stops. He looks back and sees Arthur sleeping. He knows that when the Prat wakes up and can't find him, he will send search parties, which is something he doesn't want. So he walks around the room, finds a piece of paper and writes: "Arthur, I am riding to Ealdor. I need to talk to my mother. I will be back soon." Then he leaves the note on the table and walks out of the room. The hallway is nearly empty except for a few guards, who stand up straight with respect to the moment they see him. It seems that word had gotten out already about him being a Prince. The thought of him being a Prince seems so foreign to him. He doesn't care about the guards and walks out of the castle and goes to the stable to fetch his horse. Once he reaches the stable, and is about to ride out; two guards stop him saying, "Merlin… umm I mean my Lord, where are you going at this hour?"

He stops. It feels so weird to be addressed so respectfully. He looks at the guards, smiles at them and says, "You don't need to address me like that. Just call me by my name as you used to do. And I am going out for a ride. If anyone asks, tell them I went for a ride to refresh my mind."

"How can we address you by your name? The King will have our heads if we do." one guard replies. And then another guard says, "Do you want us to go and wake some knights or other guards so they can go with you."

"No, leave it. I have been going out by myself for years. I know the forest like the back of my hand. I will be fine. Don't worry, no one will say anything to you. I need to go now." I reply and start to ride out. I realize they are about to protest but I don't have time for this, so I ride out of Camelot and to the path of Ealdor. While riding out of Camelot, one thing was going through my mind, maybe the whole truth hadn't gotten out, as the guards hadn't seemed afraid of me!

I ride for hours until I reach Ealdor. It is around 3 pm when I reach my mother's house. The villagers smile and wave at me when they see me riding. It seems like forever since the last time I have been here. So much has happened since then. I lost William. That thought makes me angrier. William didn't have to die if we had known the truth about my birth. I get off the horse and walk towards my mother's house. I knock at her door. I hear sounds coming from inside. After a minute or two, the door opens and I see my mother's curious face of who it may be. When she sees me, she smiles but that smile quickly turns into a frown when she sees my face. I don't know what my expression is like but I look at her and say, "I know!".

She looks confused for a second and then her expression changes into one of shock. I nod my head and say, "Yes, I know the truth of my birth, mother".
