Thanks for the reviews. I really, really appreciate them.
I don't own Bones.
Oooooooooooooooooooooo
After lunch, Brennan informed Booth that they were going to their nightclub because she needed to take care of some business and she wanted him to come with her. As they walked across the lot towards their car, Brennan asked Booth if he would like to drive. The trip was short and she thought driving might relax him. He wasn't supposed to drive, but she felt it would be safe enough since the speed limit never exceeded 40 mph on their route.
Even though he loved to drive, he turned her down. He didn't know where the club was and he wasn't going to ask her wher he it was. He feigned a headache and asked her to drive instead. He was grateful for the offer, but he'd seen enought sadness on her face to last him for a while.
While Brennan drove to the club, Booth took the opportunity to watch the road and the buildings they passed by. After a few minutes, he realized that he knew the streets that Brennan was driving on since he drove on them almost every day. Eventually they came upon one of Booth's favorite eateries in the D.C. area. As they passed the Royal Diner, he quickly glanced at Brennan and then back at the diner as they went by it. He longed to stop and have a cup of coffee there, but he was afraid to mention it. He wanted to go back to the world that Brennan called a dream world. He wanted to go back and live in a world where he could understand his role in it, where he knew who he was and what he was. Not this place. He had to make himself remember that he had promised himself to stop wanting a life that wasn't real, but it was so hard to do.
Once they were at the nightclub, Booth found himself staring at the neon signs attached to the building, "The Lab". Puzzled, Booth sat in the car looking at the building. Brennan was already out of the car and had started to walk towards the back entrance when she realized that Booth hadn't exited the car yet. Not sure why he was still sitting in the car, Brennan walked back to the car, opened the passenger side door and asked Booth if he was alright. Slowly nodding his head, he tore his gaze from the sign and slid out of the car. Since he appeared to be alright, Brennan turned around and walked towards the back entrance with Booth slowly following her, still staring at the building.
After they had entered the building, Booth realized that he knew where he was. He knew the entire layout of the building he was in with one major problem. The knowledge he had didn't sync with what he was seeing. His memories of what he should be seeing inside the building didn't match up with what was actually there. "The place should be filled with science stuff. Why do I think that?" Booth wondered silently. As he continued to follow Brennan, he observed everything he passed, trying to remember what was supposed to be there instead of what he was seeing in it's place. As they were passing the platform in the building he felt someone grab his left arm. Quickly turning his head, he found himself looking at Angela Montenegro.
"Hi, Angela." Booth was certain he knew her. "How's it going?"
With a shocked look, Angela stammered. "Uh . . . uh, Mr. B . . . you . . . you remember me?"
Pleased that there was a familiar face looking at him, Booth smiled. "Sure Angela. You work here and I think you're a friend of mine . . . Aren't you?"
Still surprised that he recognized her, Angela beamed at him. "Yes . . . yes we are friends even though you're my boss." The smile still on her face, Angela turned towards Brennan who just shrugged her shoulders. Brennan couldn't explain why he knew her and she wasn't going to ask Booth.
Booth needed information and the only way he could get it was to ask questions. Determined, he kept his gaze upon Angela. "Why am I your boss? I thought you worked for Cam at least you did."
Confused, Angela glanced at Brennan saw her shake her head and then reluctantly turned back to look at Booth. "Cam? um . . . I work here, Mr. B. I work for you and Bren."
Not really understanding what she was talking about, Booth decided not say anything further. He knew he would figure it out eventually. Brennan decided to ignore Booth's question and move on to her office. Booth shrugged his shoulders, smiled at Angela and followed Brennan leaving a very confused friend behind him. Entering the office, Brennan walked over to her desk and sat down. After she made sure that Booth had followed her in to the room, she then turned on her laptop and waited for it to boot up.
"This is your office," Booth looked at Brennan with a surprised look on his face.
The look on his face told her that he remembered the room. "That's correct. This is my office. Do you remember it, Booth?"
Booth smiled. "Sure, I've been here thousands of times." Puzzled, Booth looked around at the furniture and noticed it was different. Everything about the room was wrong. "It looks different though. Your bones and science stuff are gone." Walking around her office, Booth started looking at everything on the shelves and the walls.
Shaking her head, Brennan turned to her laptop and started to work. After awhile, Booth got bored looking at her decorations and books and walked over to the couch near the door and sat down. He picked up a music magazine from the coffee table and started to read it. It was something to do.
Oooooooooooooooooooooooo
Eventually Booth got bored sitting on Brennan's couch and stood up again. Since Brennan was still busy, he knew she wouldn't be able to talk to him for a while. "I'm going to walk around." When she waved her hand at him, he knew that she didn't really care so he left the office and strolled out into the hallway and around the platform. He stared at everything and wondered why it all seemed so wrong. He had just walked by another office, when a man walked out of the room and stopped to stare at him
"What's the matter Sweets? You look like you've seen a ghost." Booth spoke with a smile on his lips. It was good to see another familiar face.
Glad to see Booth, Sweets grinned. "Hi, Mr. B. I heard you were out of the hospital . . . Isn't it too early for you to come back to work? You shouldn't want to come back before you can."
Booth shook his head. "Bones . . . I mean, Bren had some stuff to do. I'm just looking around. Do you work here too?"
Puzzled, Sweets smile faded from his face. "Yes . . . I'm the bartender. Remember?"
He really didn't remember, but it was starting to bother him less. At least the faces were familiar. "Sure, why not?" Pointing at the office Sweets had just left, Booth asked him, "Whose office is this? Is it yours?"
Glancing back at the office and then at Booth, Sweets shook his head. "Um . . . no, It's your office."
Grateful for the information, Booth patted the younger man's shoulder. "Okay, thanks." Walking around Sweets, Booth entered the room and looked around. A large oak desk and matching chair was set towards the right side of the room with a file cabinet nearby. Booth walked over to the desk and sat down. Seeing a pile of paper on top of his desk, Booth picked up the some of the papers and read them. After a few minutes, Booth realized that someone was standing in the doorway. Looking up, he found Sweets staring at him. "Is there a problem, Sweets?"
"Uh, no. I have work to do." Quickly turning around, Sweets left the doorway to go back to work. He didn't know what was wrong with Booth and it worried him.
Booth looked back down at his desk and continued to read the papers he had found there. If he worked here, he thought he should at least try to figure out what he did for a living. He hoped the job wasn't too strange. He had only had two real jobs in his life. He had been an FBI Agent and before that he had been a sniper in the Army. He doubted that his knowledge from those two jobs would help him in his new job. "If I had to live in a new world, why couldn't I have been a cop in it too? That, I would have understood."
Oooooooooooooooo
After she had finished doing payroll and had finished paying bills that were coming due, Brennan decided to see if she could find Booth and see what he was doing with his time. Moving out of her office and around the platform, she headed towards the bar and asked Sweets if he had seen Booth.
"Sure, he's in his office." Sweets leaned against the bar. "Shouldn't he still be at home? It's only been a week since he was operated on. He . . . he knew me, but . . . but he didn't know I work here. He didn't recognize his office either . . . Is Mr. B okay?"
She didn't want to explain what was going on, becuase she wasn't really sure herself. "Booth is fine Sweets. I just couldn't leave Booth home alone. He needs to be with people while he recovers from his surgery . . . He can't be home by himself." Turning away from the bar, she walked across the platform, down the stairs and around the platform until she came to Booth's office. The door to the office was open, so she walked in to find Booth looking at a paper he was holding in his hand. glad the he was alright, Brennan walked across the office and sat on the chair across from Booth's desk.
Her presence worked into his mind and caused him to look up. "Hi Bones . .. er, I mean . . . Bren. Are you done?Do you want to go home?"
Sad that Booth was still calling her Bones, Brennan chose to ignore it like she had been doing and smiled. "Yes, I'm done. What are you doing?"
Booth held up some of the papers and shook them. "I'm trying to read this stuff I found on my desk. Some of them seem to be contracts and some of them seem to be schedules. I'm trying to figure out what I'm supposed to do with this stuff." He placed them down and shook his head.
"Would you like me to help you?" Brennan wanted him to feel useful and once he started working again, she hoped his memory would improve.
Grateful for the offer, Booth grinned. "Sure, thanks Bones . . . I mean, Bren. I think I understand most of it, I just need to make sure that I do."
Brennan moved around to Booth's side of the desk and started to explain what each paper represented and what he should do with them. She never thought she would be happy again, after the last few days worrying about Booth, but hearing him making an effort to say her name made her think that maybe he really was going to be alright.
Ooooooooooooooooooooo
Hope you like it so far. Thanks for any and all reviews.
