The Coliseum
Percy wasn't worried. He didn't care about this stupid quest. Killing was easy so telling him to kill 500 ghouls made his day. The thing was he had to be careful on ghoul had a small red badge over its heart and it was the only one he couldn't, well wasn't supposed to kill. The only problem is that ghouls move fast and strike even faster. How would the 3 subdue a ghoul that's only purpose is to kill unlike the others that have to protect the leader and kill. Lots of killing made the beast satisfied and Percy knew he was one of the few options they had. The gods needed him. Oddly enough, this thought didn't fill him with glee. He only had 1 thing on his mind.
Annabeth Chase.
Leaving her for a couple of days hurt more than any curse of injury that was ever inflicted on him. Except you know… the death of his mother.
Every time Percy closed his eyes, he thought of her blonde hair and beautiful storm grey eyes.
Annabeth woke with a painful headache. The throbbing didn't stop and it wasn't going to. Someone was causing it searching through her memories. At every receding memory, the headache got worse and Annabeth passed out again before she could get a glimpse at the girl.
When Annabeth came back fully, she noticed the girl first. The average height girl had frosty light blue eyes and almost white bleached blonde hair. She looked like a girl from a tough background but would hurt you if you looked at her with pity. Annabeth tried to move her head but nausea clouded her and she didn't move.
"I know you're not asleep," the girl said.
Annabeth grunted. Her head hurt and she honestly couldn't remember what happened. Finally she gave up and asked the girl what happened and where she was. The girl shrugged.
"Beats me. I don't question the boss. No-one does. I've been rooting through your mind to find what the master wanted but you have nothing on that beast."
It took Annabeth a moment to realize that 'beast' the girl was talking about was Percy. Annabeth shook her head and immediately regretted it.
"Not-a-beast." Annabeth wheezed out.
The girl smirked and turned to the door. "Looks like love, Master Luke."
Luke- who Annabeth had not noticed till the girl pointed him out- sulked. Luke frowned and contemplated Annabeth's room. It was small and white, prior to other hostage holding places, it was clean and bright. There was even a window with gold burglar guards and beyond it, Annabeth could see the bright green vivid grass.
"Come on, Aria." Luke jerked his head out and walked away.
"Aria?" Annabeth said smirked. "What a…precious princess name. I'm guessing your just for show?" (A/N yep I'm making her sassy in the dire situation. please Aria's don't take offense.)
Aria snarled. "You call me Ms Taylor or you don't call me anything." Aria smiled wickedly and winked. "Let's just take this memory and let it re-surf."
Annabeth visible paled.
"Aria! Stop toying with Annabeth." Luke's voice rang in her room.
"You're lucky he loves you." Aria said grudgingly and left the room.
Annabeth's memory flooded her as soon as Aria left. She hides with my memory, Annabeth thought. Exhausted, both emotionally and physically, Annabeth fell into dreamless sleep.
The next time Annabeth woke up, the sun was beginning to rise. Noticed there was a white dress. One of the old types worn by gladiators. Annabeths mind shut off and before she knew what she was doing she changed into the chiton. Annabeth grounded her teeth. Aria's abilities are powerful. Not only can she root through minds, she can also control them.
Around 11AM guards brought Annabeth food and left. Annabeth wondered what was going on when they returned and left her with a sword and knife. Annabeth strapped the knife to her thigh and held the sword. It was a normal sword not made of any old rare materials. Annabeth guessed she would be battling a mortal-or a mortal equivalent.
Annabeth looked out the window and noticed the sun was exactly above the sundial. A bell rang and suddenly Annabeth was being escorted to a huge coliseum. The walls were made of white marble and the ground was just sand (so you know... It could be upturned to hide the blood...). It was huge and there were seats occupied by... Hellish creatures and monsters and in the middle, the main box was Luke and Rachel. They sat there with smug smiles and regarded everyone coldly. When Luke caught Annabeth watching him, he smirked. Annabeth glared. Right now she wanted to slap him.
Annabeth focused her attention on Aria. Aria stood in the middle of the arena. Her hair was blowing in the wind and her eyes were haunted and brimming with tears that threatened to fall.
"I-I'm sorry, Annabeth Chase, Daughter of Athena. On behalf of Lord Luke, you are sentenced to death by combat. If I should fail in killing you, the next commander will go forth." Aria looked away. "Death to the girl," she said.
Luke nodded solemnly. "Death to Annabeth Chase."
"I-I don't understand." Annabeth said calmly.
Rachel smirked. "You and that beast are getting in our way. So its better with you out of the picture."
"Begin." Luke's voice rang out and a gong echoed through the arena.
Aria charged at Annabeth. Annabeth smoothly side stepped and tries to disarm Aria. Aria moved and kicked Annabeths sword away and tripped Annabeth with her sword. Annabeth dodged Aria's sword and tried to move but she was pinned to the wall. Annabeth closed her eyes and decided on a last ditch effort. Annabeth ran into the wall but at the last moment she bent her knees and pushed both legs off the wall and tumbled over Aria. Aria stood and gaped at Annabeth.
Annabeth smirked. Now that she had the upper-hand Aria was going to fail. Annabeth struck out and Aria blocked getting closer to the wall. Aria aimed at Annabeth neck, a move that Annabeth hardly deflected, and punched Annabeth's side. Annabeth dazed from the immense pain wondered why it hurt so much.
Aria smiled sadly. "Poisoned ring." She held up her hand showing the ruby ring dripping with Annabeth's blood.
Annabeth lowered her hand and tried to control her breathing. Aria disarmed Annabeth but didn't move her sword away and kicked her to the ground where she was closer to her sword.
"Annabeth. I'm truly sorry."
"Aria!" Luke yelled. "Hurry up."
Aria swung her sword down just as Annabeth stabbed Aria's achilles heel with the knife. Aria fell, her head bowed in defeat.
Aria smiled. "I knew you could do it."
Annabeth's eyes burned. "I didn't want to."
Annabeth did not deliver the finishing blow. She stood there with Aria bowing to her in silence. When Luke realized she wasn't going to kill Aria, he threw a spear that killed her. Annabeth screamed and passed out because honestly when it came to death, Aria, the girl she just met and loved to argue with, did not deserve to die.
