The Sontaran Stratagem

*EDITED*

Frost's POV:

Donna is at the controls while the Doctor and I look on nervously as we hug. "I can't believe I'm doing this!" Donna smiles amazed at what she was doing.

"No, neither can we. Whoa, careful." I say banging on the control with a mallet before lifting a lever. "Left hand down! Left hand down!" I order and the Doctor stays where he is as the ship lurches. "Getting a bit too close to the 1980s." I tell her.

"What am I gonna do, put a dent in 'em?" Donna jokes.

"Well, someone did." I say looking at the Doctor.

"That was not me that was…" The Doctor starts his argument but sees me looking back at the controls. "Rose." The Doctor finishes and kisses my cheek trying to bring comfort to me as a mobile rings.

"Hold on – that's a phone!" Donna says not believing this. The Doctor walks around her to another section of the console and pulls a mobile out of a holder. He looks at it. "You've got a mobile? Since when?" Donna asks still not believing it.

"It's not mine." The Doctor says opening it and leaning on the jump seat. "Hello?" He says answering.

"Doctor – it's Martha… and I'm bringing you and Frost to Earth." Martha tells him. We materialize the TARDIS between two buildings and behind Martha. The Doctor opens the door stepping out. He stands in front of the open door and Donna and me walk out slowly and go towards the Doctor. The Doctor looks at Martha. "Martha Jones." The Doctor states.

"Doctor." Marta says and they approach each other slowly before she holds out her arms and he picks her up into a big hug.

"Ah yeah!" The Doctor exclaims releasing her. "You haven't changed a bit!" The Doctor says.

"Neither have you!" Martha agrees.

"How's the family?" The Doctor asks her.

"You know. Not so bad. Recovering." Martha informs him. As Donna and me step out of the TARDIS behind the Doctor but Martha sees us.

"What about you?" The Doctor asks.

"Right. I should have known. Didn't take you long to replace me." Martha says.

"Now, don't start a fight. Martha, Donna. Donna, Martha. Please don't fight. I can't bear fighting." The Doctor.

"What like with Rose and Sarah Jane?" I snicker and he kisses me behind the ear stopping me and I blush red.

"You wish. I've heard all about you." Donna says shaking Martha's hand. "He talks about you all the time." Donna tells her.

"I dread to think." Martha blushes.

"No, no, no. he says nice things. Good things. Nice things. Really good things." Donna tells her.

"Oh, my God, he's told you everything." Martha realises as I nod at her.

"Didn't take you long to get over it, though. Who's the lucky man?" I ask seeing the ring on her finger and Donna sees it too.

"What man? Lucky what?" The Doctor asks confused on what I was talking about.

"She's engaged, you prawn." Donna tells him as Martha wiggles the finger on her left hand.

"Really? Who to?" The Doctor asks.

"Tom. Tom Milligan. He's in paediatrics working out in Africa right now. And yes, I know, I've got a doctor who disappears off to distant places – tell me about it." Martha tells us.

"Is he skinny?" Donna asks her.

"No, he's sort of…strong." Martha says.

"He is too skinny for words. You give him a hug, you get a paper cut." Donna says as Martha chuckles. "I don't know how Frost does it." Donna smiles looking at me still blushing.

"I'd rather you were fighting." The Doctor mutters and takes my hand in his trying to calm me down.

"Dr Jones, report to base, please…" A woman voices over the radio.

"Speaking of which…" Martha starts and talks into the radio. "This is Dr Jones Operation Blue Sky is go, go, go." Martha says walking away from us. "I repeat this is a go." Martha repeats. As we follow, soldiers, jeeps and a large lorry come down the road.

"Unified Intelligence Taskforce, raise that barrier now!" Soldier one orders and the soldiers and vehicles enter a large industrial factory. "Leave your safeties on lads, it's non-hostile!" The same Soldier orders.

"All workers lay down your tools and surrender!" Another soldier orders over a bullhorn.

"Greyhound Six to Trap One. B Section, go, go, go! Search the ground floor, grid pattern Delta." Martha orders.

"What are you searching for?" I ask Martha.

"Illegal aliens." Martha answers me.

"This is a UNIT operation! All workers lay down your tools and surrender immediately!" The other soldier with the bullhorn orders. The UNIT soldiers force the workers to their knees, hands over their heads.

"B Section mobilized! E Section, F Section, on my command!" Martha orders before running off.

"Is that what you did to her, turned her into a soldier?" Donna asks the Doctor and I squeeze his hand in comfort.

- DOCTOR WHO -

Martha strides up to us. The Doctor notices her name badge. "You're qualified now? You're a proper doctor." The Doctor says.

"UNIT rushed it through, given my experience in the field. Here we go." Martha replies leading them across the grounds. "We're establishing a field base on site. They're dying to meet you." Martha informs him.

"Wish I could say the same." The Doctor mutters and I hug his side.

- DOCTOR WHO -

We enter the lorry from the rear. It is set up with computers, monitors and communications – all top of the line. Martha walks up to the senior officer. "Operation Blue Sky complete, sir. Thanks for letting me take the lead. And this…this is the Doctor. Doctor, Colonel Mace." Martha introduces them.

"Sir," Colonel Mace salutes.

"Oh, don't salute." The Doctor complains and I giggle.

"But it's an honour, sir. I've read all the files on you. Technically speaking, you're still on staff. You never resigned." Colonel Mace informs the Doctor and I hit him over the head.

"What, you used to work for them?" Donna asks shocked at this new piece of information.

"Yeah. A long time ago, back in the 70s – or was it the 80s? it was all a bit more homespun back then." The Doctor says and moves away from me but I still kick him in the shin, he grimaces in pain.

"Times have changed, sir." Colonel Mace tells him.

"That's enough of the 'sir'," The Doctor says.

"Come on though, Doctor. You've seen it. You've been on board the Valiant thanks to Miss Saxon or as you know her Frost. We've got massive funding from the United Nations, all in the name of Homeworld Security." Colonel Mace says.

"What, and that means arresting ordinary workers? In the street? In broad daylight? It's more like Guantanamo Bay out there. Donna, by the way. Donna Noble, since you didn't ask. I'll have a salute." Donna says and Colonel Mace looks at the Doctor who gives a slight nod.

"Ma'am." Colonel Mace salutes.

"Thank you." Donna thanks looking at me seeing I was not looking too happy to be here.

"Tell me what's going on in that factory." The Doctor orders.

"Yesterday, fifty-two people died in identical circumstances right across the world, in 11 different time zones. 5am in the UK, 6am in France, 8am in Moscow, 1pm in China –" Colonel Mace say.

"You mean they died simultaneously?" The Doctor asks.

"Exactly. 52 deaths at the exact same moment worldwide." Colonel Mace explains.

"How did they die?" I ask.

"They were all inside their cars." Colonel Mace informs them.

"They were poisoned. I checked the biopsies. No toxins. Whatever it is, left the system immediately." Martha informs us.

"What have the cars got in common?" The Doctor asks glad that I was back to normal.

"Completely different but all fitted with ATMOS. And that is the ATMOS factory." Martha informs.

"What's ATMOS?" The Doctor and I ask together.

"Oh come on, even I know that. Everyone's got ATMOS." Donna says.

- DOCTOR WHO -

Martha walks over to us along a catwalk above the factory floor. "Stands for 'Atmospheric Emission System'. The ATMOS in your car reduces CO2 emissions to zero." Martha tells us.

"Zero? No carbon? None at all?" The Doctor asks.

"And you get sat-nav thrown in, plus 20 quid in shopping vouchers if you introduce a friend. Bargain." Donna says and Colonel Mace joins us.

"And this is where they make it, Doctor, Frost, shipping worldwide. Seventeen factories across the globe but this is the central depot, sending ATMOS to every country on Earth." Colonel Mace informs us.

"And you think ATMOS is alien?" The Doctor asks him.

"It's our job to investigate that possibility, Doctor?" Colonel Mace asks. Colonel Mace walks off and the Doctor and I follow. We pass some soldiers in the midst of gathering together factory workers.

"Come on, everyone, up the pace. We haven't got all day now." A soldier orders.

- DOCTOR WHO -

Colonel Mace, the Doctor, me, Donna and Martha arrive in a small office where the ATMOS device is on display. "And here it is, laid bare. ATMOS can be threaded through any and every make of car." Colonel Mace tells us.

"You must've checked it before it went on sale." The Doctor states knowing what goes on in UNIT or well good enough.

"We did. We found nothing. That's why I thought we needed an expert." Martha tells him glad that he hadn't forgotten her.

"Really? Who did you get?" The Doctor asks slipping on his glasses to examine the equipment. He turns to see the rest of us staring at him. "Oh, right! Me! Yes! Good." The Doctor says seeing the look in my eyes he knew that I was still getting used to being on Earth without the Master/ my brother with me after what had happened. Martha and Colonel Mace leave the room with the Doctor, me and Donna still there so we could concentrate on what this ATMOS is.

"Okay, so why would aliens be so keen on cleaning up our atmosphere?" Donna asks us not understanding what this UNIT was really getting at.

"Very good question." The Doctor praises his companion for thinking the same as him.

"Maybe they want to help – get rid of pollution and stuff." Donna guesses seeing only a slight possibility in that answer.

"Do you know many cars there are on planet Earth? 800 million. Imagine that. If you could control them, you'd have 800 million weapons." I say for the first time since we had come to the factory as I was still shy around humans after what the Master had made me do. The Doctor and I are examining the ATMOS device. "Ionising nano-membrane carbon dioxide converter - which means that ATMOS works. Filters the CO2 at a molecular level." The Doctor says.

"We know about that. What's its origin? Is it alien?" Colonel Mace asks the Doctor.

"No, but it's decades ahead of its time. Look, do you mind? Could you stand back a bit?" I answer Colonel Mace.

"Sorry, have I done something wrong?" Colonel Mace asks not understanding the female.

"You're carrying a gun. We don't like people with guns hanging around us, all right?" The Doctor answers for me agreeing with me wholeheartedly.

"If you insist." Colonel Mace says walking away.

"Tetchy." Martha says looking at us.

"Well, it's true." The Doctor says.

"He's a good man." Martha tells us.

"People with guns are usually the enemy in our books. You seem quite at home." I say observing the human. As I take the sonic from the Doctor and uses it on the device.

"If anyone got me used to fighting, it's the Doctor." Martha answers.

"Oh right, so it's my fault." The Doctor says not liking at all what she was saying.

"Well, you got me the job. Besides, look at me." Martha argues trying to get her point out. "Am I carrying a gun?" Martha asks him knowing she had him.

"Suppose not." The Doctor says defeated and I giggle as I work on the device.

"It's all right for you. You can just come and go, but some of us have got to stay behind. So I've got to work from the inside and by staying inside, maybe I stand a chance of making them better." Martha says to him.

"Yeah?" the Doctor says smiling. "That's more like Martha Jones." The Doctor says.

"I learnt from the best." Martha agrees.

"Don't you'll only boost his ego." I groan.

"Well…" The Doctor starts as Donna enters the room.

"Oi, you lot! All your storm troopers and your Sonics - rubbish! Shoulda come with me." Donna tells them.

"Where have you been?" I ask and Colonel Mace re-joins us.

"Personnel. That's where the weird stuff's happening - in the paperwork. 'Cause I spent years working as a temp, I can find my way around an office blindfolded, and the first thing I noticed is an empty file." Donna tells us.

"Why, what's inside it? Or what's not inside it?" I ask now looking up from the device as this piece of information caught my attention.

"Sick days." Donna says opening the file to show it's empty. "There aren't any. Hundreds of people working here, and no one's sick. Not one hangover, man flu, sneaky little shopping trip. Nothing. Not ever. They don't get ill." Donna says.

"That can't be right." Colonel Mace says taking the folder himself to check if she was right.

"You've been checking out the buildings, should've been checking out the workforce." Donna says.

"I can see why they likes you." Martha comments and the Time Lords and the human exchange a look.

"Hmm." Donna says.

"You are good." Martha says.

"Super Temp." Donna and I say together and laugh.

"Dr Jones, set up a medical post, start examining the workers. I'll get them sent through." Colonel Mace orders her.

"Come on, Donna, give me a hand." Martha says and the Doctor and I follow Colonel Mace out of the room.

- DOCTOR WHO -

The Doctor and I walk with Colonel Mace along an open corridor parallel to the work area. "So, this, this ATMOS thing, where'd it come from?" The Doctor asks.

"Luke Rattigan himself." Colonel Mace says.

"And himself would be?" I ask.

- DOCTOR WHO -

Colonel Mace pulls up Luke's profile on a computer. "Child genius. Invented the Fountain 6 search engine when he was 12 years old. Millionaire overnight. Now runs the Rattigan Academy. A private school educating students handpicked from all over the world." Colonel Mace informs them.

"A hothouse for geniuses - wouldn't mind going there." I say. Colonel Mace looks at me puzzled. "I get lonely." I say and the Doctor looks at me and I smile. "Well not too lonely of course." I correct myself.

- DOCTOR WHO -

The Doctor, me and Colonel Mace are striding along. "Your are not coming with us. We want to talk to this Luke Rattigan, not point a gun at him." The Doctor says to Colonel Mace.

"It's ten miles outside London. How are you going to get there?" Colonel Mace asks us.

"Then get us a Jeep." I say.

"According to the records, you travel by TARDIS." Colonel Mace says.

"Yeah, but, if there is a danger of hostile aliens, I think it best to keep a super-duper time travel machine away from the front lines." The Doctor says.

"I see. Then you do have weapons but you choose to keep them hidden. Jenkins?" Colonel Mace says.

"Sir!" He answers.

"You will accompany the Doctor and Frost and take orders from them." Colonel Mace says.

"I don't do orders. Nor does Frost." The Doctor tells them.

"Any sign of trouble get Jenkins to declare a Code Red. And good luck, sir." Colonel Mace salutes.

"I said no salutes." The Doctor groans.

"Now you're giving orders." Colonel Mace tells him and leaves.

"A bit cheeky, you are." The Doctor says and I giggle.

"Well he has a point." I laugh and Donna finds us.

"Doctor. Frost." Donna calls.

"Oh, just in time. Come on!" The Doctor says grabbing my hand. "Come on, we're going to the country." The Doctor tells her and pulls her towards the jeep with me following. "Fresh air, geniuses, what more could you ask?" The Doctor says.

"I'm not coming with you. I've been thinking. I'm sorry... I'm going home." Donna tells us.

"Really?" I ask.

"I've got to." Donna tells me.

"Well, if that's what you want. I mean, it's a bit soon. We had so many places we wanted to take you. The Fifteenth Broken Moon of the Medusa Cascade, the lightening skies of Cotter Palluni's World, the diamond coral reefs of Kaata Flo Ko... Thank you. Thank you, Donna Noble. It's been brilliant. You-you've saved my life in so many ways." The Doctor rambles and Donna nods and he looks at me who is trying not to laugh. "You're... You're-you're just popping home for a visit. That's what you mean." The Doctor realises.

"You dumbo." Donna says as I laugh.

"And then you're coming back." The Doctor says.

"Do you know what you are? A great, big, outer-space dunce." Donna says to him. "Yeah." The Doctor agrees and I calm down and take his hand.

"You really are a dumbo sometimes love." I say.

"Well thanks love." The Doctor smiles kissing my cheek.

"Ready when you are, sir." Jenkins tells us.

"What's more, you can give me a lift. Come on." Donna says and they get into the jeep. "Broken moon of what?" Donna asks.

"I know. I know." The Doctor says as I giggle some more and we go driving off.

- DOCTOR WHO -

The jeep pulls up to the corner of Donna's road. The Doctor steps out first, followed by Donna and I. "I'll walk the rest of the way. I'll see you two back at the factory, yeah?" Donna says.

"Bye!" The Doctor and I say getting back into the jeep.

"And you two be careful!" Donna orders us because we were her friends and she enjoyed our company.

- DOCTOR WHO -

The Doctor, me and Ross are driving to the school. "UNIT's been watching the Rattigan Academy for ages. It's all a bit Hitler Youth. Exercise at dawn and classes and special diets." Ross tells us.

"Turn left." The ATMOS system instructs.

"Ross, one question. If UNIT think that ATMOS dodgy—" I begin to ask the young soldier.

"How come we've got it in the Jeeps?" Ross asks me getting the point of my question.

"Yeah." I answer.

"Ha, tell me about it. They're fitted as standard on all government vehicles. We can't get rid of them until we can prove there's something wrong." Ross says as the ATMOS instructs him again. "Drives me around the bend." Ross says as he turns into the school drive.

"Oh, nice one." The Doctor comments.

"Timed that perfectly." Ross agrees.

"Ha. Yeah. You did." The Doctor says as the ATMOS speaks.

"Better than most of your jokes." I joke and rush out of the jeep as the Doctor chases after me.

- DOCTOR WHO -

Students in red sweat suits are running past while Luke stands and looks out over the grounds. The Doctor, me and Ross walk up the pavement as the Doctor had caught me and he wasn't letting me go. "Is it PE? I wouldn't mind a kick-around. Got me daps on." The Doctor says as I giggle.

"I suppose you're the Doctor." Luke states.

"Hello." The Doctor greets.

"And I suppose you're Frost." Luke states again and I wave as the Doctor was covering my mouth with his hand. I lick his hand and giggle at his reaction.

"That's me." I confirm.

"Your commanding officer phoned ahead." Luke tells us.

"Oh, I haven't got a commanding officer. Well if you call my Wife one. Have you? Oh, this is Ross. Say hello, Ross." The Doctor blabs.

"Afternoon, sir." Ross greets and the Doctor drags me in rushing to the main doors.

"Let's have a look, then! I can smell genius... in a good way." The Doctor says smiling.

- DOCTOR WHO -

Many of the students are working on an advanced projects. The Doctor and I enter the room and wander about as different things catch the Doctor's the eye and he drags me with him. "Oh, now... that's clever! Look!" The Doctor says as he slips on his glasses.

"Single-molecule fabric. How thin is that?! You could pack a tent in a thimble. Oh! Gravity simulators! Terraforming, biospheres, nano-tech steel construction! Ha-ha, this is brilliant! But y'know with equipment like this, you could, oh, I dunno... move to another planet or something." I say fascinated with this and I couldn't believe the technology in the room. The Doctor was looking at me glad he had the excited me back who loved science and fixing things.

"If only that was possible." Luke says.

"If only that were possible." The Doctor agrees taking off his glasses. "Conditional clause." The Doctor says.

"I think you'd better come with me." Luke says.

- DOCTOR WHO -

"You're both smarter than the usual UNIT grunts. I'll give you that." Luke says.

"He called you a grunt. Don't call Ross a grunt, he's nice. We like Ross. Look at this place..." the Doctor says.

"What exactly do you want?" Luke asks them aggravated.

"We were just thinking, what a responsible 18 year old. Inventing zero-carbon cars, saving the world..." The Doctor says.

"It takes a man with vision." Luke answers the Doctor.

"Mm, blinkered vision. 'Cause ATMOS means more people driving, more cars, more petrol, end result: the oil's gonna run out faster than ever. The ATMOS system could make things worse." I say to him.

"Yeah, well, that's a tautology. You can't say ATMOS "system" 'cause it stands for Atmospheric Emission System. So you're saying "Atmospheric Emission System System". Do you see, Mr Conditional Clause?" Luke says quickly.

"It's been a long time since anyone's said no to you, isn't it?" The Doctor says remembering the time he would be talked to like that by his children back on Gallifrey.

"I'm still right, though." Luke says.

"Not easy, is it, being clever? You look at the world and you connect things - random things - and think, 'why can't anyone else see it? The rest of the world is so slow'." I say to the young boy genius.

"Yeah." Luke agrees with me as I uses my mother voice that always made the Doctor's hearts sing with joy.

"And you're on your own." The Doctor says.

"I know." Luke says.

"But not with this." The Doctor says reaching into his coat pocket and pulls out an ATMOS device. "'Cause there's no way you invented this single-handed. It might be Earth technology, but that's like finding a mobile phone in the Middle Ages." The Doctor says and tosses the device to Ross and walks towards the teleport. "No, no, I'll tell you what it's like! It's like finding this in someone's front room. Albeit, a very big front room." The Doctor says.

"Why? What is it?" Luke asks him.

"Yeah, just looks like a thing, doesn't it? People don't question things. They just think, 'Oh, it's a thing'." I say joining the Doctor at the teleport.

"Leave it alone!" Luke warns them.

"Us, we make these connections" The Doctor says and we walk inside it.

"And this to us looks like..." I say as the Doctor presses the buttons.

"...a teleport pod." We say together and disappear.

- DOCTOR WHO -

The Doctor and I appear in a teleport pod aboard a ship. The Sontarans are fully armoured. "Orbit now holding at 556.3, sector 270." The PA sounds.

"Oh." We freak out and the Sontarans notice us and one of them raises his staff.

"We have intruders!" He warns.

"How did he get in? In-tru-da window?" The Doctor jokes as the Sontarans advance on them. "Bye-bye!" We say and the Doctor pushes the button and we disappear on the run.

- DOCTOR WHO -

The Doctor and I reappear running out of the teleport. "Ross, get out! Luke, you'd better come with me!" The Doctor orders and Staal appears in the teleport and the Doctor uses the sonic to short out the controls. "Sontaran! That's your name, isn't it? How did I know that, eh?" The Doctor asks and puts the sonic away. "Fascinating, isn't it? Isn't that worth keeping me alive?" The Doctor asks him.

"I order you to surrender in the name of the Unified Intelligence Taskforce." Ross orders aiming his gun at him.

"That's not gonna work." I tell Ross. "Cordalaine signal, am I right?" I ask Staal already knowing the answer. "Copper excitation stopping the bullets." I tell Ross.

"How do you know so much?" He asks me.

"Well..." The Doctor answers and starts walking around the room.

"Who are they?" He asks Luke.

"They didn't give their names." Luke tells him.

"This isn't typical Sontaran behaviour, is it? Hiding? Using teenagers? Stopping bullets? A Sontaran should face bullets with dignity! Shame on you!" I say joining the Doctor by the desk standing between his legs as he leans on the desk.

"You dishonour me!" He says.

"Then show yourself." The Doctor orders him.

"I will look into my enemy's eyes." He says removing his helmet to reveal a brown dome-shaped head with no visible neck.

"Oh, my God." Ross says not expecting that at all.

"And your name?" I ask him.

"General Staal of the Tenth Sontaran Battle Fleet. Staal the Undefeated." Staal answers with pride.

"That's not a very good nickname. What if you do get defeated? 'Staal-The-Not-Quite-So- Undefeated-Anymore-But-Never-Mind'?" The Doctor asks him in a jokey kind of way.

"Looks like a potato, a baked potato. A talking baked potato." Ross says not too sure what it was.

"Now, Ross, don't be rude. You look like a pink weasel to him." I tell him and lean over picking up a tennis racket and bouncing a ball on it. "The Sontarans are the finest soldiers in the galaxy." I say leaning near Ross. "Dedicated to a life of warfare." I tell him twirling the racket in my hand. "A clone race grown in batches of millions with only one weakness—" I say.

"Sontarans have no weakness!" Staal says offended by the words coming out of my mouth.

"No, it's a good weakness." The Doctor says.

"Aren't you meant to be clever? Only an idiot would provoke him." Luke tells us.

"But the Sontarans are fed by a probic vent in the back of the neck. That's their weak spot, which means they always have to face their enemy in battle. Isn't that brilliant? They can never turn their backs!" The Doctor tells them.

"We stare into the face of death!" Staal shouts.

"Yeah? Well, stare at this!" I say hitting the ball with the racket. It bounces off the teleport pod and hits Staal's probic vent making him stagger and the Doctor pushes Ross with me after them.

"Out! Out! Out!" The Doctor orders and we run out of the door and Luke goes to Staal.

- DOCTOR WHO -

We run to the jeep and drive off.

- DOCTOR WHO -

We are driving back to London. "Greyhound Forty to Trap One. Repeat: can you hear me? Over." Ross says into the radio. "Why is it not working?" Ross asks.

"Must be the Sontarans. If they can trace that, they can isolate the ATMOS." The Doctor says to Ross.

"Turn left." ATMOS instructs.

"Try going right." I tell him.

"It says left." Ross says confused on what I was saying.

"I'd do as she says she's always right. So go right." The Doctor comments.

"I've got no control. It's driving itself. It won't stop." Ross says taking his hands from the wheel and tries the door. "The doors are locked!" Ross says a little panicked.

"Argh! It's deadlocked! I can't stop it!" The Doctor says not liking this one bit as I was in danger.

"Turn left." ATMOS instructs and the jeep swerves left.

"The sat-nav's just a box, wired through the whole car." The Doctor says. The tires screech at the jeep swerving off the road. "We're heading for the river!" Ross says alarmed.

"ATMOS, are you programmed to contradict my orders?" I ask it.

"Confirmed." The ATMOS device answers me.

"Anything I say, you'll ignore it?" I ask it another question.

"Confirmed." The ATMOS device answers me again.

"Then drive into the river!" I tell it and Ross stare at me and the Doctor smiles wondering why he hadn't thought of it. "I order you to drive into the river! Do it! Drive into the river!" I tell it and the jeep's brakes squeal to a halt right at the river's edge. We jump out and run.

"Turn right. Left. Left. Right." The ATMOS device orders.

"Get down!" The Doctor shouts and him and Ross both dive to the ground but I stay standing and shake my head.

"Dummy." I mutter.

"Left. Right. Left. Right. Left. Right. Left. Right." The ATMOS device says becoming increasingly high pitched. Suddenly the panel sparks and smokes.

"Oh, is that it?" The Doctor says lifting his head sounding surprised and a bit disappointed and looks at me hearing me laugh.

- DOCTOR WHO -

The Doctor rings the front door with me and Donna answers. "You would not believe the day I'm having." Donna tells us. The Doctor examines the Nobles' car. He taps the ATMOS device underneath and then opens the bonnet. Donna is on her mobile trying to reach Martha.

"I'll requisition us a vehicle." Ross tells us.

"Anything without ATMOS. And don't point your gun at people." I tell him and he runs off.

"Is it him? Is it her? Is it the Doctor? Is it Frost?" Wilf asks Donna and sees us checking under the bonnet. "Ah, it's you two!" Wilf says.

"Who?" The Doctor asks then looks to me still looking under the bonnet and then recognizes Wilf. "Oh... it's you!" The Doctor says and he comes to stand by Donna and Wilf.

"What, have you met before?" Donna asks them.

"Yeah, Christmas Eve. They disappeared right in front of me." Wilf tells her.

"And you never said?!" Donna demands.

"Well, you never said." Wilf says and I come over to them. "Wilf, sir. Wilfred Mott. You two must be some of them aliens." Wilf says to us.

"Well, yeah, but don't shout it out." The Doctor tells him and shake Wilf's hand and so does Frost. "Nice to meet you properly, Wilf." The Doctor says.

"Ah, an alien hand." Wilf says shaking my hand.

"Donna, anything?" I ask her.

"She's not answering. What's it, 'Sontiruns'?" Donna asks me.

"Sontarans. But there's got to be more to it. They can't be just remote-controlling cars. That's not enough. Is anyone answering?" I ask her.

"Hold on." Donna says. "Martha, hold on, he's here." Donna says giving the Doctor the phone.

"Martha, tell Col Mace it's the Sontarans. They're in the file, Code Red Sontarans. But if they're inside the factory, tell him not to start shooting, UNIT will get massacred. I'll get back as soon as I can. You got that?" The Doctor tells her.

"Code Red Sontarans. Gotcha." Martha says before hanging up. The Doctor has the sonic out and is looking under the bonnet with me as Donna and Wilf look on.

"You've tried sonicking it before. You didn't find anything." Donna tells us.

"Yeah, but now I know it's Sontaran, I know what I'm looking for." The Doctor tells her.

"The thing is, Doctor and Frost, that Donna is my only grandchild. You gotta promise me you're gonna take care of her." Wilf tells us.

"She takes care of us." I answer.

"Oh, yeah, that's my Donna. She was always bossing us around even when she was tiny. "The Little General" we used to call her." Wilf tells us.

"Yeah. Don't start." Donna tells him and the Doctor concentrating on a specific part with holes in a grid pattern.

"And some of the boys she used to turn up with - a different one every week. Yeah, who was that one with the nail varnish?" Wilf asks her.

"Matthew Richards. He lives in Kilburn now - with a man." Donna tells him. Spikes shoot out of the holes in the device.

"Whoa! It's a temporal pocket! I knew there was something else in there. It's hidden just a second out of sync with real time." I say.

"But what's it hiding?" Donna asks and a woman walks up to see us with our heads together under the bonnet.

"I dunno, men and their cars! Sometimes I think if I was a car..." The woman says then sees the Doctor. "Oh, it's you! Doctor-what was it?" She asks.

"Yeah, that's me." The Doctor says waving at her without looking.

"Have you met him as well?" Wilf asks her.

"Dad, it's the man from the wedding! When you were laid up with Spanish flu. I'm warning you, last time that man turned up, it was a disaster!" She tells him and gas shoots out from the device.

"Get back!" I order them. The Doctor uses the sonic on the car.

"That'll stop it." The Doctor says but the car sparks and the gas stops.

"I told you! He's blown up the car! Who is he anyway? What sort of doctor blows up cars? And who is this woman here?" She keeps asking.

"Oh, not now, Mum!" Donna tells her.

"Oh, should I make an appointment?" She asks and stalks off.

"That wasn't just exhaust fumes. Some sort of gas. Artificial gas." I tell them.

"And it's aliens, is it? Aliens?" Wilf asks us.

"But if it's poisonous... Then they've got poisonous gas in every car on Earth." Donna says and the Doctor looks around at the cars parked on the street and sees ATMOS stickers in the window of all of them.

"It's not safe. I'm gonna get it off the street." Wilf says and he gets into the car and the door shuts behind him and automatically locks.

"No, don't!" Donna shouts and the car starts and a thick exhaust comes out the tailpipe. "Turn it off!" Donna orders him but he shake his head. "Granddad, get out of there!" Donna orders and she tries to open the door.

"I can't! It's locked!" Wilf tells her holding up the keys. "It's the aliens again!" Wilf tells her banging on the window.

"What's he doing? What's he done?" She asks by the front door.

"I've isolated it!" The Doctor tells us.

"There's gas inside the car! He's gonna choke! Doctor! Frost!" Donna shouts and the Doctor joins her at the door leaving me at the bonnet working on it and he tries to open it with the sonic.

"It won't open!" The Doctor says hearing car alarms and sees all the other cars emitting the gas. "It's the whole world." The Doctor says.

"Help me!" Wilf shouts weakly. The Doctor runs to check on the engine with me. Wilf coughs and Donna looks helplessly through the window. The Doctor yanks out some wires but it doesn't help. He move to the middle of the road. The Doctor stands in the middle of the road powerless as the smoke billows around him. "Doctor!" Donna and I shout.
