Less than an hour later, Emily Prentiss rang her best friend's doorbell. It took JJ a minute to get to the door and Emily immediately noticed her inebriation when she did finally answer.

"Emily," JJ whispered sadly.

Emily opened her arms to JJ and held her face against her chest for a few minutes while she cried.

"Let's go sit and talk, babe," she suggested after some time had passed.

JJ led Emily to the couch in the living room and they settled in.

"Tell me what happened with Will," Emily demanded.

JJ just slid Will's note across the coffee table in Emily's direction. Emily picked up the note and read it.

"I don't know how I missed this," Emily said softly when she finished reading.

"I didn't talk about our issues," JJ replied. "You couldn't have known."

"It's my job to know," Emily explained. "Not as a profiler, but as your best friend."

"It's okay, Em. I try my best to keep those things hidden."

"Do you love him, Jennifer?"

"What do you mean? He's my husband, Henry's father..."

"But do you love him?"

Emily took JJ's hands and looked straight into her eyes. JJ tried to look away, but Emily held her gaze. JJ knew that Emily deserved the truth, but she hadn't really thought about what that was. Now that she was thinking about it, a new thought occurred to her.

"No," she whispered. "Not anymore."

"I didn't think so."

Emily pulled JJ to her and JJ rested her head on her friend's shoulder. Emily ran her fingers through JJ's silky blonde hair, hoping to ease the pain of her realization. She felt a small spark of hope at JJ's confession. She started to ask her another question, but she realized JJ had fallen asleep. She smiled and rested her head against the couch pillows, allowing her own eyes to close.

JJ woke up to sunlight streaming in through the windows and a crick in her neck. She pushed herself off of Emily and stretched, trying not to wake her, and went to the kitchen to make some breakfast. She was feeling slightly better this morning; having admitted to Emily that she no longer loved Will had eased the pain of his leaving her just a little bit. She wondered if maybe she should get help for her anxiety. Those crazy thoughts had started to overtake her life and the last thing she wanted was to fall apart and ruin Henry for life. Will seemed to think she was already there. She shook the thoughts from her head and concentrated on mixing pancake batter and scrambling eggs. About halfway through, she grew tired and decided to just give up. Cereal and coffee would have to do. She started pouring the pancake batter down the sink until she felt a hand on her arm.

"What are you doing?" Emily asked from behind her.

"It just wasn't turning out great. We may have to eat bagels or something. I just got tired of whisking and the eggs weren't the way I wanted them and..."

"I'll finish breakfast," Emily interrupted, giving her a strange look. "Go make yourself comfortable in the living room."

While Emily finished up the pancakes and eggs and poured their coffee, she thought about what Will said in his letter. Was JJ really that different? Did she need help? The way she had given up halfway through making breakfast was strange. She took the plates of food into the living room and set them on the coffee table.

"This looks great," JJ said softly. "Thanks, Emily."

"You're welcome."

"I want to box up whatever is Will's that he didn't take. I need everything out of here."

"I'll help you," Emily said, maybe a little too quickly.

"Thanks, Em. Let's just get started now. No point in putting it off."

They headed upstairs to JJ's bedroom and JJ instructed Emily to grab anything that looked like it belonged to Will and toss it into a trash bag. Emily got to work, trying hard to conceal her desire for ridding JJ of Will. Less than an hour and three big boxes later, JJ's bedroom seemed pretty much Will-free.

"What are you thinking?" Emily asked softly.

"Will you help me take these out to the garbage?"

"Are you sure?"

Emily placed her hand on JJ's shoulder. JJ didn't hesitate.

"I'm positive. He walked out on me. He doesn't get to come back."

Emily was proud of JJ for doing something for herself. For the last few years, everything had been Henry, then Will, then the team. Emily had no doubt that her friend's recent struggles had a lot to do with not making herself a priority. She made a mental note to make sure she did just that and then picked up one of the boxes, following JJ out to the dumpster. She offered to take the third box and when she went back inside, JJ was on the phone. Not wanting to interrupt, and hoping it wasn't Will, Emily went to the kitchen to pour them some more coffee. She sat on a barstool and waited.

Ten minutes later, JJ appeared in the kitchen, gratefully taking the coffee Emily held out to her.

"Everything okay?" Emily asked.

"Oh, yeah. That was just my mom. She wants me to pick Henry up now because she has things to get done today or something."

"Does she know about Will?"

"Yeah," JJ replied, "but she always told me that our marriage was a bad idea. I mean I knew it, but I didn't want to end up alone." She laughed. "And look where that got me."

Emily squeezed her friend's hand reassuringly.

"Anyway, thank you so much for coming over last night. I don't know what I would have done," JJ told her.

"I'm always here for you, Jayje."

"Thanks."

JJ's voice was almost a whisper now, and her eyes were locked onto Emily's. They stayed like that for several seconds, Emily still holding on to her hand. Emily broke the silence and stood up quickly.

"I guess I should be going so you can go get Henry."

"Yeah, I suppose I should be taking care of my son instead of wallowing," JJ said thoughtfully.

Emily headed to the living room to get her phone and keys. She turned to go back to the kitchen and say goodbye, but was surprised to find JJ standing right in front of her.

"Come with me."

"Wh-what?" Emily stuttered, suddenly out of breath.

"To pick up Henry. Will you come with me?"
