Inspiration: "Sail" by Awolnation:
"SAIL!
This is how I show my love.
I made it in my mind because
I blame it on my A.D.D. baby.
This is how an angel cries
I blame it on my own sick pride
Blame it on my A.D.D. baby
SAIL!
SAIL!
SAIL!
SAIL!
SAIL!
Maybe I should cry for help
Maybe I should kill myself (Chorus: myself)
Blame it on my A.D.D. baby
Maybe I'm a different breed
Maybe I'm not listening
So blame it on my A.D.D. baby
SAIL!
SAIL!
SAIL!"
"I can see through her lies. She knows it and I know she can tell, but I say nothing about it and play it off. Every time I ask what happen between her and my father, she always used the same answer, but worded it differently each time. That it didn't work out or we didn't see things eye to eye anymore or we just drifted apart.
It was always the same damn answer! And truthfully, I am getting irritated that she wasn't answering me directly! She keeps avoiding it! I know something happen! I don't know what exactly, but I know for a damn fact that something happen between them! I have no idea why, but my gut keeps telling me that I was somehow the reason or cause that he isn't around.
I don't want to get angry with my mom, but she keeps ignoring and avoiding my question! I just want a answer so I can understand! To fill the empty spaces and mystery that swirl around me like fireflies. I just want to know why he hasn't come looking for us! Why he hasn't at least called or shown up at our front door step! I just want to know why he's fucking out of my life and not in it!
I guess my mom is too ashamed of what happen to tell me. I just have to wait...and time is not on our side anymore."
-Gaia, age 13, August 1st, 2010
I looked at the sandwich, like it was something unfamiliar to me. I couldn't tell if I was hungry anymore, there was just this uneasiness in my stomach that just made me feel full. Like I was highly nervous about something, so I knew my stomach wouldn't be able to hold down at least one bite of the sandwich. I was sitting on the stool and just stared at the plate, having no idea what to do. It was like four in the morning and I am exhausted, but awake...damn jet-lag. It's like eleven at night in Russia right now.
"You okay? You haven't touched your plate yet." I gazed up, and looked at Pierce, who took a sip from his can of soda and looked at me. I slowly pushed the plate of food away from me.
"I...just don't feel like eating at this moment. I'll just drink water for now," I replied as I placed my elbows on the table, breaking the rule of no elbows on the table, and clasp my hands together and rested my forehead against my hands and closed my eyes.
"You're not sick or anything right?" I shook my a head gently a no. Hell, I don't even now. Maybe I was, maybe I wasn't.
"No...I just feel a bit unnerved," I answered, not looking up at him once. I could feel his gaze on me, but he eventually went to the fridge and took out a bottle of water and placed it in front of me. "Thanks." I didn't make any movement to grab the bottle at all.
"Okay. Something's clearly bothering you Gaia."
"What makes you think that Pierce?" I hear him pull a stool that was on the other side of the counter to sit.
"Well, for one you haven't touched your food, two you haven't made a move to grab the bottle of water, and three you look troubled about something. So what's wrong?" he asked. I sighed. I opened my eyes and looked at him in the eye. I knew he was someone I could trust.
"Ever since I was a young child, I would sit up in my room and...imagine what my father would look like and always wonder why he never come to visit me for nearly fourteen years. I always thought it was something I did, or something my mother did but I could never figure out why. Then I would imagined him to a police office, or a doctor, hell even a damn cook. The last thing I suspected was some huge prick Pierce! My entire life I wanted to see him and all I get is...someone that I question and have doubts in."
"Well, yesterday you really didn't show all that need and want Gaia. You practical wanted to murder Nathan."
"That's because he was dragging my mother's name through the dirt like she was nothing!" I answered back, not defensively but stating something that was true.
"Touche."
"My mother...you and her would've been fast friends for sure. She was caring. Loving. Affectionate. She was someone that you can turn for help...she was always there Pierce. She was always there." I trailed off, as a memory of her smiling pop up in my head. "She was always happy...and smiling. You would've liked her Pierce. You and everybody else here would've."
"Gaia...I know that this isn't any of my business and I will apologize in advance if I cross any personal boundaries, but it sounds like something happen to her." I immediately froze on the spot, when I actually realized what I had just said. "Gaia...is she alright?"
"Y..yeah," I lied, "She's fine...for now. She...ugh...got diagnosed with an early stage of cancer...so um, she sent me here because she's going to be staying in the special treatment center for a while and since my Uncle isn't around with us anymore, she didn't want me to be by myself. So she thought this would be the best time...to meet my father, Nathan, for a few weeks, maybe a few months. Till she gets out."
"Oh. I'm sorry to hear that. Is it treatable?" he questioned. I couldn't tell if he bought my lie or not.
"Yeah. It's in it first stage, so the doctor's are trying to eliminate it with chemotherapy and such."
"And this Uncle of yours. What happen to him?" asked Pierce. I don't think I have to lie about this one.
"He came down here to America, looking for better work so he could provide for my mother and I, since he literally raised the both of us, so he was like our father and he just disappeared one day."
"Do you know where he went?"
"No. American police and Russian police worked together trying to solve his disappearance. Never came up with any leads for three, maybe four years. So my mother had no choice but to sign a death certificate that legally presumed my Uncle dead."
"Oh. I'm sorry to hear that."
"Yeah. I miss him a lot. He used to give me piggyback rides and taught me a lot of things about nature," I stated as I smiled at the memories. Pierce chuckled lightly.
"What was his name?"
"His name was Oleg Kirrlov, biggest teddy bear I've ever had," I answered, smiling slightly.
"Oleg? Sounds like he had to be a pretty huge guy by the sound of the name," stated Pierce. He had no idea!
"Well, well, well, who is this beauty?" questioned Killbane, as he looked at the screen, where Matt zoomed in on the young girl that Loren's men reported seeing when they were patrolling, sitting next to one of the lieutenants of the Saint's, talking with the security camera he hacked. "Matty! You think you can get a profile off her? While you're at it, I want to hear what they're saying," I stated.
"Yeah. Just give me a few seconds," answered Matthew. I watched as these blue and green lines appeared on the young girl's face, outlining her facial features. I tucked my hands behind my back and watched as a miniature window pop up on the screen, scanning through various female face's. "And's hear's the audio while we wait for a positive identification on the girl."
"So you actually owned wolves?"
"Yeah. My mother got a license for it, to raise wildlife, after I got interested in them."
"A Russian accent, now that's something new to my ears," muttered Killbane as he listened to the young girl and the lieutenant talk. Killbane could not help but notice that she looked like a female version of the Saint's leader.
"Why wolves though? What makes them so interesting to you? All I see are bigger dogs that would eat humans in a heart beat."
"Well, they are beautiful. Loyal. Mysterious and awesome cuddle friends. Their just big puff balls of fluff walking around! And, their like family. Once you became a member of a pack, they always have your back. No matter what. They'll be there to the very end."
"Annnnd, here's a profile," stated Matthew, as the miniature window that was scanning the various faces stop on one girl. She had long, dark-brown hair, pale-blue eyes, light to medium skin, and plump, but small rosy lips. "Her name's Gaia Kirrlov Reya. Just turned fifteen. Birthplace is Moscow, Russia. Poor girl...her mother just passed from some rare form of cancer," read Matthew of the profile. Killbane paced back and forth listening to him. "Well, this is very interesting."
"What is Matty?"
"She happens to be the daughter of the Saint's leader." Killbane stop pacing back and forth, and looked at the large screen and gazed at the young girl, an evil smirk forming on his lips.
"Very interesting indeed."
"They sound just like your father," stated Pierce, as he drank more of his soda, also forgetting his food. I tilted my head at his comparison.
"I don't if I should feel offend or confused that you just compared my wolves to Nathan. I doubt he's that loyal to anybody."
"Trust me Gaia. Nathan is."
"Well, he has a very funny way of showing it Pierce," I replied, as I finally opened my bottle of water, and took a sip, "If he was loyal, he would've came to find me. But then again, not everybody is going to be the way they imagined someone to be, like I have realized."
Pierce let out a sigh. "I understand that Nathan isn't the most, open person in the world Gaia. Neither is Shaundi."
"Really? Do I have to mention yesterdays events again? They were pretty open about everything if you ask me."
"You just have to take my word for it Gaia. Nathan is really loyal, and understanding. It's just, shit has been going down south for the past couple of days. So he's stressed about a lot of things."
"Like what? That he isn't getting his shipment of tea that he ordered?" I questioned. Pierce laughed.
"Na, nothing like that sweetie, it's just, we just suffered a great loss that's all." I nearly choked on the water, taken a back by his response. I had no idea that Nathan lost someone. Maybe that's why he was acting...bitter to me.
"Oh. I'm sorry to hear that. Who...is this person that he lost? A brother? A relative? A lover?" I questioned, straining the last word a little bit. I couldn't think of Nathan loving another woman. Yeah, I dislike and slightly hate my father and I shouldn't give a single damn about his...love life, but it still bothered me how he could love another woman, knowing he left my mother pregnant with me. I will admit, it bothered me greatly.
"He was like a brother, but he wasn't blood related to Nathan at all, neither was he his lover...that would be weird, but I would be okay if Nathan did happen to swing the other way to. But I doubt he's into his gender. His name was Johnny Gat. He was like Nathan's older brother. "
"Johnny Gat?" I repeated the name. It sounded familiar. I think my mother mention his name a few times.
"Heard his name before?"
"Sort of. My mother mentioned that similar name a few times. But I doubt this Johnny Gat and the Johnny Gat my mother mentioned would be the same person."
"Hey. You might not know." I shrugged my shoulder's, as I drank more water. Pierce might be right, they might be the same person, but that's like a slim chance though.
"How long has Johnny been in Nathan's life?"
"He's been with your dad since the beginning, he even help found the Saint's."
"The Saint's? Is that some kind of company that Nathan run's?" The thought of my father, I hate that word so much, owning his own business was sort of cool. I won't lie.
"Company? It ain't a company Gaia. It's the crew." He lost me. Saint's? Crew? How do these two words refer to one another?
"Um...you lost me Pierce. Saint's? Crew? You're making it sound like Nathan is the leader of some gang or something!" I chuckled, joking on the last part. Only to realize that Pierce had a serious face.
"Gaia...that's what I'm saying. Your father is the leader of our gang. The Saint's." I felt a bit shocked. He had to be joking. I opened my mouth to ask, when we heard the ping of the someone getting off the elevator. I turned around and saw the purple dinosaurs coming in. Giving high fives to one another. Why, I have no idea. Then I saw Nathan, my father, stroll in. He turned his head to our direction. Guess he felt like someone was staring at him. He then started heading our way. I was resisting of getting up and leaving the room, because in honest truth, I knew we were going to end up fighting about something.
"How it go Boss?" questioned Pierce, Nathan walked past him and opened the fridge and grab a bottle of water, opening it and leaned against the stove.
"Eh. Managed to drive them off for now, but there isn't a doubt that Loren's going to send more men our way." Loren? Who's this Loren?
"Bastards persist, I'll give him that much," replied Pierce.
"Have any leads yet were we can find him?"
"Ten grand says if he's in that tall ass skyscraper," answered Pierce. I watched as Nathan shook his head a slight no, as he placed the water bottle on the counter next to the stove.
"Doubt Loren would stay in a skyscraper that screams I'm a criminal master mind. I need something more concrete to go one than on your little bet Pierce."
"How about we go to powder?" suggested Pierce. I gazed between the two totally confused? I'm still trying to reason with the fact that my OWN father is a LEADER of a GANG still!
"I don't have time for a stripper Pierce," sigh Nathan. He goes to strippers? That's fucking wonderful to know! Thank you for putting vivid pictures in my head now Nathan! Pierce sighed.
"I'm talking about the Powder gun store, not the stripper Boss. Saw a couple of Loren's goon's going in there a few days back. Must be using it to get their guns." Nathan shook his head, in approval.
"Tomorrow, we're going to do a little shopping." Pierce agreed with him. I'm still confused. "Um..Pierce can you give me some...alone time with Gaia?" Pierce didn't answer. He simply got up and left the kitchen. I gazed at Nathan, as he sheepishly rub the back of his neck. "Listen...I know we didn't get off on the right start...and I'm sorry for calling you a bitch."
"Why are you apologizing all of a sudden?" I questioned.
"Honestly...I don't know. I just felt...y'know...wrong." I gazed at him and he gazed at me.
"Usually, I don't accept apologizes from cold, lashing out bastards, but I accept," I stated. I could see a slight relief appear in his eyes. My attention drifted to his right cheek that looked like someone cut him with a wire. It was smeared with blood, and was still bleeding. I don't know why, I just up and grab the roll of paper towels and rip a sheet off. I then I went to the sink and turned on the water. I let it run, till it got warm and soaked the paper towel. I turned the faucet off, and squeezed the excess water out. I then approached Nathan.
He was watching my every move. I knew he still didn't like me, but he didn't flinch or pushed me away from him when I gently dabbed at the dry and fresh blood that caked his cheek. I silently did this for a few seconds, slowly dabbing at it. I felt like my mother, who treated my every cut and bruises when I was young. He kept staring at me, and I felt the staring eyes of the others bore into my back. I was on my tippy toes, reaching his cheek. He had to be at least a good six feet, leaving me feel short because I was 5'6.
"You need to apply pressure for a few minutes," I stated quietly and softly, as I grab his right hand and placed it over the wet paper towel, "The bleeding should stop. Then clean it. The last thing you need is a nasty infection." I then walked away, and headed towards my room in a hurry. Ignoring the surprise and awe stares from the purple dinosaur's I walked by. I could see Pierce had a small smile on his face.
That cheeky bastard! He's lucky he's my friend!
I held the wet towel against my face as I heard door's close somewhere in the penthouse. I was surprise to say the most. I didn't suspect her to do what she did. Tend to my small cut. Her little hands grazed my skin as she softly and carefully cleaned the cut. I'm surprise I even let her that close to me. She's still a stranger to me none the less, but she made feel...whole.
I know, as strange as it sounds...she just did. She reminded me so much of Galina.
I just hated that I still loved that woman like she was still with me. It's true, love made me a fool. I just had to be careful with Gaia...and just get to know her. Little by little. I'm willing to try. I just need Shaundi to come to terms with Gaia.
I already have enough on my plate, the last thing I need is to break up a cat-fight between the two.
Finally! Some adorable fluff between father and daughter like you guys be demanding like madmen! So please enjoy and tell me how you feel!
