Chapter eight: Despair

RPOV

He left.

He fucking left!

I was my bathroom floor with my knees pulled against my chest, I was crying. I have been crying since he left two days ago. Sobs shook my body and my heart was beating painfully against my ribs.

I wrapped my arms around my knees, trying to hold myself together but it wasn't working. I have been crying nonstop since I woke up, I was told that Eddie had brought me up to my room. As soon as I woke up I ran into my bathroom and have been in here for two days.

There was a knock on the bathroom door, I ignored it. The person knocked again and again I ignored it.

"Rose, please open the door." came Lissa's soft voice. I lifted my head up toward the door, Lissa have been trying to comfort me since I had collapsed outside two days ago.

Well, not just her but everyone. Mia, Adrian, Eddie, Christian, Matt and Rhonda. But, I had shut them out.

They still tried though. They also tried to get me to eat but I had no appetite. I heard Lissa walk away, but not even two minutes later there was pounding on the bathroom door.

"ROSEMARIE HATHAWAY! You open this door right now!" shouted a voice.

NO! It couldn't be! Could it? I got up shakily from the floor since my legs were asleep.

"Rosemarie...you have five seconds to open this door before I have her break it open!" said another voice, this one was a man's voice and I suddenly realized they both had accents, different ones.

One was Scottish and the other Turkish, I gasped.

It was them! They were alive!

Ignoring the tingling in my legs I ran to the door and threw it open. There stood my parents, Janine Hathaway and Abe Mazur.

"Mom! Dad!" I shouted as I pulled them into a bone-crushing hug. I started sobbing again but, at least this time it had nothing to do with Dimitri.

I haven't realized that I was worried about the wellbeing of my parents until this exact moment. I had been worried that they might have been killed in one of the battles during this war with the Strigoi. But they were alive! I was so glad.

"Kiz, I can't breathe!" said my father breathless and I felt my mother nodded in agreement into my shoulder. I let them go and apologized; they just smiled and gave me a kiss on each cheek.

That surprised me; the shock must have shown on my face because they laughed.

"What? We can't give our only daughter a kiss?" asked my dad.

"Yeah, you can...but, you never did." I said sadly, and my parents looked sad as well, they also had guilt in their eyes. NO! I am not going to let two more people feel guilty for what they had done in the past, even though they made their decision on their own about me without a charmed necklace but at least they are trying to make up for the past and that's what really matters.

I hugged them again and said, "I am so happy two of you are alive!"

"We are happy that you are alive!" said Mom hugging me with tears in her eyes. That shocked me, this was the second time I saw tears in her eyes, the first being when I returned to school after I thought I 'killed' him.

The rest of the day we talked and for a few hours, I had almost forgotten that he left.

Almost.

"Kiz, we were passing though, when we heard word from Lissa about what has happened in the last two years." said Abe looking at me with his brown eyes that mirrored mine.

We talked about what had happened and apparently they were lead to believe that their only daughter willing turned Strigoi, by my friends under the power of the necklaces.

"We also heard what Guardian Belikov did too." added Janine wrapping her arms around me and I smiled up at her sadly.

"Yeah, I just got him back and he just left me again." I said choking up at the end.

"What do you mean?" asked my dad, he and mom looked confused.

"What did you mean?" I said.

"Belikov stabbed you and left you for dead." said Mom though clenched teeth, if looks could kill HE would be dead, I thanked god that he wasn't here.

Now, I understood why they were confused. Lissa didn't tell them about the whole necklace and compulsion stuff, I took a deep breath and said "Let's go downstairs, I have a feeling this is going to take some time to explain and I want the others to help out."

We went downstairs into the living room and I saw the others there. I sat down on the love seat and my parents squeezed in beside me, it felt good to have them near me.

"Rose!" said Lissa when she saw me but a look from my father stopped her from running to me.

"Dad! Stop glaring daggers at Lissa and listen!" I snapped at my father, who surprisingly listened to me.

I took a deep breath and started to tell them everything, I mean EVERTHING. From when Lissa and I ran away to how I fall in with HIM, and how I broke out Victor so I can return HIM to a Dhampir and finally what has happened in the last few weeks to now.

To say they were shocked when I told them that I am in love with HIM would be an understatement but they told me that they will support me whatever was going to happen between HIM and me.

"Rose?" I looked to Lissa and saw that she had tears running down her face, I immediately went to her.

"What's wrong?" I asked her as I took her hands into my mine.

"You love him with all your heart and soul, don't you?" she asked me.

My throat tightened but I managed to choke out, "Yes, I do."

Lissa grabbed a hold of me and hugged me so hard that I thought she was going to break my spine but I didn't care. I was hugging my sister and crying out for my broken heart but I couldn't help but wonder what HE was doing and where HE is.

But I was worried about him, was he okay?

DPOV

"Welcome to St. Petersburg" said the captain in Russian than in English. I sighed, I was home.

I was in Russia, I smiled but it felt forced. I knew that I had left my home behind in America.

Roza.

Wherever Roza was, that is where home was for me. However, my family is my home too, I heavily sighed as I unbuckled my seat belt. I grabbed my bag from the overhead compartment.

I walked in a daze though the airport, all I could think of was that I wanted to go back, back to my Roza but the guilt was too strong. I got my suitcase from the baggage calm and went to the car rental place.

Two hours later I was on the road heading toward Baia. It was sunset when I got to Baia four hours later and realized that the Strigoi will be coming out soon. I floored on the gas and sped toward my childhood home; once I got there I parked the car and got out.

I grabbed my stuff from the backseat, as I started to walk toward the house; I was tackled to the ground by someone that smelled like flowers.

"DIMKA!" screeched the person, I laughed joyously and hugged my little sister Viktoria.

"AHH! Viki, Little sister, don't you know that never sneak up on a fully trained Guardian?" I said in Russian, oh how I missed teasing my little sister for her impulsive nature.

"DIMKA! You are my brother! Trained Guardian or not I will sneak up on like any good sister will do!" she said in Russian with her arms crossed over her chest like a child.

I laughed out loud and said, "Okay, Viki you got me, now how are you doing?"

"How am I doing? Never mind that, how are YOU doing?" she asked in a stern voice. I started to tell her that I was hanging in there but several other voices were screeching 'DIMKA'

My older sisters were the first ones to hug me, then, it was my mother. She kissed me all over my face all the while crying and murmuring in Russian about having her baby boy back. I would be embarrassed about that but it felt so good to hear her say it.

I spied my grandma, Yeva behind mama and I smiled at her. I held out my arms for a hug and she came over but didn't step into my arms.

I slowly lowered them feeling hurt, she came closer and I thought she was going to kiss me on my cheeks like she did when I a young boy but she didn't.

She slapped me across my face. I was speechless and my right cheek stung, my grandma might be old but she could still do a hell of a mean bitch slap.

"You. Are. An. Idiot!" She said slowly in Russian to me and than stormed off, leaving mama and my sisters behind in shock.

"Mama!" called out my mother to her mother. Yeva stopped halfway to the house but turned around and marched right back up to me and looked into my eyes. She shook her head and wrapped her thin arms around my waist.

"You are an idiot grandson, but I still love you." she said to me, smiling.

She leaned in too my ear and whispered, "She loves you too."

"I hurt her...a lot, Yeva." I whispered back and grandma sighed and shook her head again.

"That is true but you are hurting her even more right now, grandson." she said wisely.

I shook my head and said "It's too late to go back right now and I missed all of you."

Yeva pulled back and smiled at me. "Yes, it is too late to go back."

My heart stopped. What did she mean by that?

"What do you mean?" I said slowly, fearing the worst.

"She will not be there." Yeva said mysteriously, my heart fell into my stomach. What did grandma mean by 'she will not be there'?

ROZA! I was fearing the worst when grandma added "The fates will bring her here. When, though? I do not know. But it is to be very soon."

I sighed in relief, my Roza was safe but then my heart stopped again. Yeva said that Roza was coming here, to Russia.

To where I was, at times like these I wish my grandmother knew when, she said soon, but that could mean in a day or a week.

"Why would she be coming?" I asked Yeva.

My grandmother smiled but didn't say anything, I watched as she walked back into the house without another word. My family and I looked at each other for a few minutes before following behind her.

While I was helping Mama make dinner I was thinking of ways to avoid Roza. I suddenly felt I sharp pain at the back of my head.

"OUCH!" I shouted as I turned around and came face to face with Yeva.

"What you doing? Why did you hit me?" I asked her, while rubbing the back of my tender head.

Yeva just shook her head and put down the newspaper on the kitchen table, then walking out of the kitchen murmuring 'Idiot grandson' over and over. I just shook my head at the old bats actions and went back to helping with dinner.

As I laid in my bed later that night I thought about Roza and realized that I shouldn't avoid her when she came here. I would help her and the others; I would act civil to her. I will not show her any of my emotions, not even my love for her. I was not good for her and I never will be.

I had tears falling down my face and I immediately wiped them away but then I thought maybe I should just let them go since I would not be able to once my Roza was here.

I started crying silently into my pillow, letting out all the anguish and hate for myself for what has happen in the last two and half years. After, what seems like hours the tears stop and I felt so exhausted, my eyes were dropping and the last thought I had was of my Roza.

Roza would be here soon. My home will be here soon. I fall asleep with a smile on my face.

RPOV:

My parents had offered to take me out shopping and to a movie. I accepted as long as the others could go, they said okay. So, that's how we all ended up going to the mall and emptying our pockets.

The women in the group went to the spa while the men went to the arcade, even my father went as well. He was like a little kid.

The spa treatment was awesome; I had a deep tissue massage that made me want to kiss the woman giving it to me. After, the spa Lissa suggested for all of us to get a hair cut.

I agreed, since my hair hasn't been cut in three years, my hair was to my lower back now and I had a lot of splint ends. The hair dresser and I talked about how we wanted to cut and style my hair. I told her that I still wanted it long and she told me that even she wanted it long as well because it was pretty.

I relaxed as the hair dresser started washing my hair, it felt so good and I held my breath as she started cutting my hair but she was true to her word after she was done blow drying it. My hair was still long; it now rested against the middle of my back.

I thanked the hair dresser and give her a tip; I turned around to see how the others were doing and gasped at the sight before me.

Lissa had layers done to her hair, which made her look even more like a queen. Mia, who had short hair now, got blood red hair lights done. My mom, who had let her hair grow out and was pass her shoulders, had gotten blonde hair lights that looked great on her.

We all looked good and told each other that we liked our choices for our hairs. When we met up with the guys, I saw my father's mouth drop when he saw my mother's hair.

I smirked and whispered in his ear, "She looks hot, doesn't she?"

All my dad could do was nod; I laughed and added, "I wouldn't mind being a big sister."

The look on my dad's face was unreadable but I nodded my head at him and continued walking toward the restaurant we were headed to. The whole gang was laughing while we ate our dinner.

We all pitched in to pay the bill then we all left and got into two different cars that we came in. I was in the first car with Lissa, Christian and Eddie; the others were in the other one.

Eddie turned on the radio and we all started to sing with Katy Perry's 'Fireworks' I was having such a great time laughing and having a good time.

Until that car came out of nowhere. It was like déjà vu all over again as the car was hit on the driver's side. The car rolled over and over, all I could hear was the screaming of the others and the screech of metal against metal.

I felt pain though out my whole body as the car stopped rolling landing upright but I ignored the pain as I was more worried about the others.

"LISSA! CHRISTIAN! EDDIE!" I yelled out to my friends, hoping they were okay.

"I'm okay and so is Christian but he's knocked out!" cried Lissa from behind me. I turned around and saw that she was healing Christian but he would need more healing than she could give him.

We needed Adrian; I looked at Eddie and saw that he had a big gush in his forehead. He must have hit his head against the window when the other car crashed into us.

I unbuckled my seat belt and leaned over to Eddie to check his pulse, it was there but it was very faint. I turned back to Lissa to tell her that I was going to try and find a phone to call the others since their car had been ahead of us and they wouldn't have seen the crash.

Lissa nodded to me but then screamed out, "ROSE!"

I looked behind me where Lissa was looking and before I could defend myself an arm grabbed my newly cut hair and dragged me out of the broken window. I screamed out in pain as a piece of glass that was still embedded in the window cut deep into my skin leaving a long cut from the top of my right side to my hip.

After I was fiercely taken out of the ruin car, my attacker threw me violently in the air, I crashed down several feet from the car screaming out as I landed back first in a pile of broken glass. I sat up and saw who my attacker was and I gasped out, trying to back away from him.

"Hello, Rose!" said Victor Dashkov as slowly walked toward me, his red eyes gleaming murderously. Yeah, you heard me right, RED EYES.

Victor Dashkov was a Strigoi.

"Stay away from me!" I shouted as he came toward me but all he did was laugh at me and before I could react he ran full speed at me and grabbed me by my throat and started squeezing. My head felt heavy, I tried kicking and scratching him but nothing worked.

"Oh, how I dreamed of this moment." Victor said as he tightens his hold around my neck. The world was fading fast around me but then suddenly it came back. I turned on my side and coughed my lungs out and tried to breathe oxygen in at the same time.

I looked up to see why Victor stopped choking me and gasped as I saw Lissa with a baseball bat in her hand, holding it threateningly at Victor.

"Keep dreaming!" she said as swung the bat toward Victor, who was holding his head, Lissa must have hit him already. Victor saw what she was going to do and reached out at lighting speed to grab the bat.

He smirked at her as he stood to his full height and said, "Ah, Vasilisa, weak as always."

I screamed at Lissa to run but she didn't, what she did surprised me and Victor as well. She kicked out with her right leg catching Victor where it hurts; he gasped and bent over holding his private area.

"Hey, Victor?" I called to him and he looked up at me suddenly realizing that he was closer to me than he probably would have wanted to be.

I kicked out with my left foot catching him in the face, braking his nose. He yelled out and ran away from Lissa and me but not before bursting into flames. Lissa and I looked over to the car seeing Christian looking very pale as he held out the hand that wasn't holding his ribs toward Victor.

The flames only lasted a few minutes and Victor was sadly still running away, instead of being a pile of ashes. I laid my head down on the ground and I started moaning out in pain.

There was not one part of my body that didn't have pain going though it. I looked up as I saw headlights in front of me and sighed in relief when I saw that it was the others.

"Rose!" shouted my mom as she ran to me and knelt down to me.

"Mom, I'm fine." I told her.

"No, you are not Rosemarie. You are pale and you have a deep cut on your side and, oh god!" my mother broke off sobbing; I looked at her then down to where she was looking at and gasped.

I had a piece of glass sticking out of the lower part of my abdomen. How the hell could I have not felt that going into me?

I looked up at my mom and said, "I don't want to die, mommy!"

That was the last thing I remember before fainting.

I don't know how long I floated before I came to but when I did I felt pain, unbearable pain. I let out a cry as I moved my arms and screamed when I felt hands on them.

I opened my eyes to see Jade green eyes looking at me with concern.

"Lissa." I croaked out before coughing wildly, I felt a straw against my lips and I greedily drank the cold water.

"Thank you!" I whispered to Lissa, who smiled at me.

"How long was I out?" I asked her and saw that she stiffened; she looked behind her to someone. I slowly sat up and leaned my body weight on my elbows. I saw the whole gang there, suddenly I felt like I had missed something.

"Lissa, how long was I out for?" I asked again getting worried that it might have been a long time.

I waited for her to tell me but it wasn't Lissa who told me, it was Rhonda.

"You have been asleep for two weeks, Miss Hathaway." she said as she walked up to my bed and seat down.

"Two weeks! Oh my god!" I said, I looked at Lissa and the others.

I opened my mouth to ask what has happened in the last two weeks but Rhonda cut me off by saying, "No time Miss Hathaway! The queen will heal you enough so you can travel. We are already behind according to the fates!"

We were all staring at Rhonda shocked but Lissa listened to her and healed me enough so that I could at least stand up. Lissa asked me if I felt better after her healing, I wasn't but I knew she would heal me again and I didn't want that since she already looked so pale.

I turned to Rhonda and asked, "What do the fates tell us to do now?"

"Oh, Rosemarie. Our warrior," said Rhonda smiling at me

"You and the others have to go somewhere, it is important to go to this place. You will save a lot there and each of you will gain something in return." she added as she got up from my bed.

I had no idea what she meant by that last part but asked, "Where is this place?"

Rhonda paused by the door and turned her head to me, smiling she said, "Russia."
