Chapter 9
Chapter 9
Waking up slowly, groggily he moaned as he stretched out across the bed; he opened his eyes and started to panic. Where was he? How the hell did he get here? He jumped out of bed, wearing only his boxers and ran out of the room in a half-asleep daze. Halfway down the hallway he suddenly remembered where he was, Sam and Dean's extra apartment.
"Fuck me." he said exasperated, leaning over to put his hands on his knees as he tried to calm his heartbeat.
Picking up his phone he realized it was 1:15 pm, he was supposed to be at work at 10. Fuck, fuck, fuck. He made a phone call as he threw Dean's clothes on.
"Seattle Local Library on South 1st St, how may I help you?"
"Charlie! It's Gabriel!"
"Gabriel! Where the fuck are you guys?"
"Look, it's a long story. Castiel got his ass beat last night so he was gonna call in. I had some problems and I accidentally overslept...a lot. I'm so sorry, Charlie."
"What happened to Castiel?"
"Do you remember his ex, Balthazar?"
"Of course I do. He told me about him. Did he hurt Cas?"
"I'm afraid he did, yeah. He followed me around town, too."
"Are you okay? Are you guys safe?"
"I'm fine, now. You know our regular, Sam Winchester?"
"Yeah, what about him?"
"Well, his brother and Cas are...dating, I guess. I called them and we're staying at their place for a bit, we'll both be safe, I promise. I'm gonna get ready for work and I'll be in asap. I'm so sorry."
"It's okay, don't worry about it, just take the day off for now, okay?"
"Are you sure?"
"Of course I am. I'm always sure about what I say, duh." she teased
"Uh huh, thank you Charlie."
"No problem. Hey, Gabe?"
"Yeah?"
"I love you guys, okay? Be careful."
"We love you, too Charlie. We'll be fine, I promise."
Hanging up the phone he felt immense guilt for accepting Charlie's offer of the day off. He needed to rest. He needed to call his baby brother. He called and Castiel didn't answer. He tried Dean's phone, still no answer. After a total of six calls; he decided to go make sure everything was okay.
Remembering the key Sam had given him the night before, he grabbed it and a hand gun and walked across the hallway. He said the key into the door and quietly unlocked it, slipping inside he cocked his gun as quietly as possible.
He made his way through the living room into the kitchen, holding the gun out in front of himself just like the cops on C.S.I., no one was in either room.
He slowly went down the hallway and checked the first bedroom, there were books everywhere but no one was inside, it must be Sam's room.
Next room was the bathroom, no one there, either.
Only one room left, it had to be Dean's room. His heart pounced as he quietly opened the door and stepped inside. There were two figures in the bed but he couldn't tell if they were okay; he'd just get a better look. If they're fine, he'll just go back to their other apartment.
He stepped closer to the bed, slowly and quietly, still barefoot since he couldn't find his shoes, he was completely silent. He slowly leaned over the edge of the bed to make sure the two men's heads were still intact when he felt a blinding pain to his nose.
All of a sudden he was on his back and the gun was sliding across the floor, where he'd dropped it. Having not seen a good look at the man who had struck him and still not being sure it was his brother and Dean on the bed, his instincts kicked in. The man started to jump out of the bed and Gabriel kicked him square in the gut before realizing it was Dean who had possibly broken his nose.
"DEAN! JESUS CHRIST IT'S ME, GABRIEL! I'M SO SORRY!" he shouted at the top of his lungs as Dean landed on the floor at the foot of the bed gasping for air.
"Gabriel, Dean, what's going on?!" I asked as I hopped put of the bed, the only uninjured man in the room
"I have no fucking clue!" Dean choked out "Gabriel, what the fuck man?! Why the hell do you have that gun?"
"You didn't answer your phones! I had to make sure everything was okay. I called six times, I was afraid you were hurt, that he'd found us." he explained embarrassed
"We'll, we're fine Gabriel. A bit shook up, but fine. Good morning, by the way. What time is it?" I teased him
"Hell, I don't know any more; I think it's like 1:30 or something."
"Seriously, 1:30?!" I exclaimed "Aren't you supposed to be at work?"
"No shit, Sherlock! I called Charlie and told her everything. She let me have the day off."
"You told her everything?" Dean asked warily
"Well, not everything, Dean. I'm not an idiot." he replied with an eye roll
"Well that reminds me, Dean told me everything." I piped up
"Everything?" my big brother asked protectively
"Yes, Gabriel, everything. Now, who wants breakfast? I'm starving."
"Oh man, me too. Wanna go out to eat? I know a joint that serves breakfast all day." Dean smiled
"Oh hell yeah! I want some pancakes with whipped cream and strawberry syrup!" Gabriel exclaimed excitedly
"You're such a child, Gabriel. Why not get food for breakfast instead of bread and sugar?" I said as I playfully pushed him with my foot; for some reason both men were still sitting in the floor. Gabriel had a swollen nose and Dean had a bruise forming on his loser ribs and stomach, idiots.
"Alright, let's get dressed. We can take the Impala and- oh fuck. The Impala is still at the gas station. Gabriel, we'll take your car and we'll swing by on the way and get Baby." Dean said looking like he was kicking himself for leaving his car there
"Why don't we eat and then go get your car, Dean? I'm starving!" Gabriel whined
"No, we get my baby first, top priority, got it?"
"Yes sir, mister bossy, sir!" Gabriel exclaimed sarcastically while giving Dean a salute "So how did you know I was in here? I didn't make a single sound."
"We'll, like I explained last night, I was raised into this, I was raised a light sleeper. You didn't make a sound but the air in the room shifted. The air didn't sound the same; something was off or I wouldn't have woken up, I promise you that."
"Weirdo." was all Gabriel had to say
