Chapter Nine "I Don't Need Your Help!"
A week after that huge fight, father had taken to ignoring Robert. Robert at first was a bit surprised. His father had never came back to give him another beating. It was strange but yet Robert would take being ignored instead of a beating any day.
So this is how it went during the week. Robert's alarm went off since father stopped getting him up for school. Robert dressed and walked to school since father also stopped driving him there. Once school was over, Robert would hang out with Evan and the guys at the hangout or spend time with Carrie at her house. He would stay out until it was late where Robert would go home do his homework and go to bed.
The next day was the same thing.
The bruises began to fade a little and Robert was still jumpy around his house but at least he got to let his guard down a little. It was like a break from the abuse, well a small one because after a week of being ignored, it soon began to feel a little depressing, especially since it was the night of the winter dance.
Robert all dressed up in a tux with a black tie went down the stairs. His father was in his office with a drink and reading some important papers. Robert knocked on the door.
"Sir I'm leaving for the winter dance I won't be back until after one," Robert informed him.
His father didn't say anything. He just cleared his throat as he turned a page.
"I'm just going to be on my way then," Robert said as he turned around and closed the door. He couldn't help being a little hurt. It's been over a week already and his father was still ignoring him. This was all just so stupid and father was acting like a stupid child. Sometimes Robert felt like the adult in this house especially when his father was wasted and Robert was left to take care of him.
He left the house just as Steven pulled up to the curve with Evan and their dates. Robert grinned at the sight of his friends. He pushed the hurt away and all depressing thoughts of his father to the back of his mind. He was going to have fun tonight. Robert was going to party with Evan and their friends, dance with Carrie and the issues going on with him and his father wasn't going to ruin that. He climbed into the car as Evan shouted
"Are you ready Chase?"
"To dance all night and maybe get lucky with Carrie? Fuck yeah!" Robert laughed as they headed to the school dance.
The high school gym was packed with teenagers all dressed up. Robert, Evan and Steven with their dates entered the gym. Robert looked around for Carrie and instantly spotted her in a black knee length dress. Her Brown hair was up in a bun. She looks so pretty Robert thought. She was in a group laughing with her friends. Robert caught her eye. She smiled excusing herself as she made her way through the crowd towards him.
"You made it" she said. "You look so handsome."
"And you look beautiful" he smiled.
Robert took her hand and pulled her close to him.
"You're the most beautiful girl I've ever met and I've had the best week of my life with you" he said.
Carrie smiled "I had the best week of my life with you too Robert,"
She pulled him towards the dance floor.
"Let's dance," She laughed as he pulled her close and they danced to the beat.
Robert didn't even notice anything going on around him. His eyes were only on Carrie. He couldn't believe how lucky he was to have her as his girlfriend. Robert was so into dancing with Carrie that he didn't notice the people behind him until he bumped into them.
"Ow you stepped on my foot," Taylor gasped as she turned and realized it was Robert.
"Oh sorry Tay!" Robert laughed. "I didn't know you were coming to the dance. I thought you changed your mind."
"I wasn't going to come but Chris asked me."
"You and Chris are here together?"
Robert didn't know why that hurt a little but he pushed the feeling away. He was here with Carrie so what did it matter that Taylor was here with Chris instead of him.
"You look nice Tay" He managed to say.
Taylor smiled and she really did look more then nice. She looked beautiful but Robert couldn't say it out loud for some reason. Taylor had on a white knee length dress with a silver slash around her waist. Her brown hair was curled and it was pushed back past her shoulders. He noticed she was wearing make-up. It was the first time she wore it and it wasn't too much. It made her features strike out more. Her blue eyes shined in the lights and Robert was suddenly reminded of the time when they were in that snow fort back when they were kids.
"Hey Robert!" Chris said as he joined Taylor and gave her a drink.
Like Robert, He was dressed in a classic tux with a black tie. Robert tore his eyes away from Taylor.
"Hi Chris I see you made it. How come you didn't tell me you were taking Taylor as your date?"
"Well sorry I didn't know I had to ask your permission to take Taylor as my date," Chris retorted. He somehow sensed the jealousy in Robert's voice. It sounded like Chris didn't like it.
"I didn't mean it like that!" Robert snapped.
Before an argument can start, Carrie grabbed his hand and pulled him away.
Once they were far away she said "Just ignore them Robert obviously they are dating behind your back and talking shit about you. Besides what do you care about Anderson? You have me now."
Robert forced his gaze away from his friends and looked at Carrie. She was right. Ever since high school started Robert had been distance from his friends but now he was just going to forget about them.
Robert tried forgetting about Taylor as he danced with Carrie but now Robert couldn't stop thinking about her. She was the only one who understood. She was the only one who knew about Robert's father. She wouldn't really date Chris without telling him would she? They were just here as friends.
Robert turned and looked at Taylor. She was dancing with Chris. They looked like they were having fun. They were laughing and doing crazy dance moves. They were having fun without him. Robert couldn't help but wonder what happened to their trio. Robert knew their friendship was changing but he didn't notice how far apart he was with them until now. That knowledge struck him in the heart. He started to move over to them wanting to reconnect with them and tell Chris sorry. He wanted dance with Taylor and hold her close but Carrie grabbed his hand tightly and pulled him closer to her.
"Come on Robert just dance and forget about them!" Carrie sighed in exasperation.
Robert's eyes however were still on Taylor she was spinning around with Chris. Her dress twirled around her legs and her long hair flew around her shoulders. Taylor suddenly looked up at Robert her blue eyes filled with laughter.
Robert smiled at her. He was about to go over to him but suddenly Carrie's lips were on Robert's. Her tongue was pleading for entry and he opened his mouth. They were full on kissing in the middle of the dance floor and Robert melted into the kiss. He held Carrie closer to him. All thoughts of Taylor left his mind.
Once the kiss was over Carrie was pulled away from her best friend. Robert looked back and realized Taylor and Chris were gone.
Where they did go?
He made his way out of the dance floor. It suddenly felt hot in here with so many teenagers pressing in on him. With no sight of Taylor or Chris, Robert decided that he needed to get some air. He stepped out of the gym and walked down the path.
To Robert's surprise Chris was sitting outside on one of the benches.
"Hey I was looking for you and Tay. Where did she go?" Robert asked as he sat down next to him.
"What do you care?" Chris asked. The hostility in his voice took Robert again by surprise.
What is up with him? Robert thought.
"Please Just tell me where Tay went," Robert said impatiently. He had no energy to deal with Chris's issues. Robert was starting to feel tired and he just wanted to go home to find Taylor.
Chris sighed and said "She saw you and your girlfriend sucking face and left."
"Why? I thought she liked Carrie."
Chris snorted "Are you blind Chase or are you just that stupid?"
"What are you talking about?"
"The reason Taylor came today was for you. The reason why she didn't say yes to the guys who asked her to the dance was because she was waiting for you to ask!"
"Wait, what are you talking about? She knew I was taking Carrie."
"Yeah but you know Tay! She is a hopeless romantic. She likes you Robert. You're her best friend and she just saw you sucking face with that bitch! And all you can ask is where she went? You don't even feel bad for hurting her!"
"Don't call Carrie a bitch!" Robert stood up and glared at Chris.
"Is that all you got out of that?" Chris stood up and shouted "Jesus Robert! Look around you! You're hanging around Cooper and his hoodlums! You're playing around with Carrie who is rumored to have the worst reputation. My dad is a police officer. He knows why she was transferred to our school. She was caught doing drugs and having sex in the girl's bathroom!"
"Yeah I know about that. She told me what happened but it doesn't mean I shouldn't date her!
"Yeah but that isn't you! What happen to my friend who always talked about going to medical school and getting out of here? Now I'm realizing why you're always hanging around Cooper!" He stepped closer to Robert and said in a low calm voice "You better not be messing with drugs because if you are, you're ruining your life Robert. You won't get out of here if you get caught into that life."
"And what do you care!" Robert shouted. "You don't know anything! You don't know my life or what I go through everyday! I'm not that kid anymore that you met in kindergarten. It's time you grow up Chris and realize that I'm not going anywhere. I'm not going to medical school because that is only for the lucky kids, the one with normal lives. That future isn't for me!"
"Well I would know about what you're going through if you would just tell me! Even Tay knows what's going on and every time I ask her she says you made her promise not to tell anyone. Robert, just tell me what's going on!"
Robert ignored him as he continued his rant "I'm stuck here and if you don't like it then that's it. I'm not your friend anymore. It's time we go our own way!"
"You don't mean that Robert. I'm only trying to look out for you. If you are doing drugs, just tell me I can help you!"
"I don't need your help!" Robert shouted and pushed Chris to the ground. "And I don't need you! We are done!"
Robert turned around and kicked the trash can in anger. He ignored Chris's angry shouts. Robert had enough. He was walking home. He was too angry to see anyone and he just wanted to go home so he can shut himself in his room.
Once Robert was home, he ran upstairs. The lights were all out. Robert can hear his father snoring in his room. He must have gone to bed wasted due to the sound of his snore.
Robert rummaged through his drawer, looking for anything that was sharp but he couldn't find anything. He needed to cut so badly. Robert felt so angry at Chris, at his father, at everyone. His body was shaking and he didn't know what to do with the anger.
Robert kicked his closet door hard and yelled out in pain and frustration. He didn't care if he woke his father up. He kicked his closet door over and over again as he yelled out in a loud anger filled scream.
Once he stopped screaming and his throat felt so sore, Robert realized the doors of his closet were opened. His school bag was hanging inside.
Robert remembered what was inside. He opened it and pulled out a bottle of whiskey that he stole from Evan's mother's liquor cabinet. If his father drunk away all his problems every night then why couldn't Robert do it?
It was a good substitute from cutting and if he couldn't cut then he was going to drink until he forgot about his anger and his problems. He was going to drink until he forgot about Chris and the stinging words he said. He was going to drink until he forgot about Taylor and how beautiful she looked tonight.
So I figured that If you want an example of how Taylor looks like just think of Marley from Glee but if you don't like Glee its fine just know that she has that hair color. I hoped you like this chapter. Please tell me what you think! =)
