New Chapter!
His day was hectic to say the least. He was woken up at 5:30 which he didn't mind that much and was given 30 minutes to shower and get changed into clothes laid out by his stylist Cinna.
It was something he didn't think he'd get used to for a while. Having someone plan every single thing you wear was weird but Cinna was the best in the business and never failed to dress Peeta in something good.
He had taken my time in the shower, knowing that this was going to be his only moment in complete solitude and have his thoughts run free, and of course they settled on Katniss. He missed her like he never thought he could miss anyone and they had only been separated for a week. He had dated his fair share of girls before and after he became famous, but he'd never felt such a deep connection with someone in such a small amount of time.
Peeta got out of the shower and wrapped a towel around his waist. He then proceeded to slip on a vertical stripped white button down shirt, paired with blue jeans, a brown belt, and brown oxfords. He didn't bother with his hair because he knew that it was just going to be restyled the moment he got to the studio, so he simply combed it and sat around waiting for Effie to knock on his door.
He was just about to turn on the TV and find out what could possibly be showing at six in the morning when his phone buzzed on the nightstand. A smile grew as he realized it was Katniss.
Good morning sunshine. Her text read
It was maybe 10 o'clock back in LA and he smiled picturing her in his apartment, walking around in pajamas and snacking on whatever she saw in his fridge.
It's pouring rain over here. I never thought I would miss LA weather so much.
He also never thought he would miss her so much and was about to tell her just that when she replied
LA weather misses you and I do too.
He was about to text something really cheesy that he knew would put a smile on her face but then there was a knock on the door and Peeta instantly knew it was Effie. Sure enough, her voice came filtering through the door.
"I hope you dressed, Peeta. Today is going to be a big, big day."
He had half the mind to ignore her and carry on texting Katniss but he had experienced the wrath of Effie before and it wasn't something he wanted to go through again.
"I'll be out in a second."
Peeta quickly sent Katniss a quick text saying I miss you too, but I've got to go. Text you later. I love you.
He smiled as he sent the text. He had decided that telling Katniss he loved her was his new favourite thing.
He was escorted by Effie and two other bodyguards into a black sedan where his co-star Glimmer was already seated. He had to hold back a groan when he saw her perfectly poised self seated on the leather couch. He hadn't worked with many people in the business, this franchise being his first big role, but Glimmer was the first person he'd encountered to be a real snob. She was rude to anyone she believed was below her which in her opinion was everyone except for the director and Peeta. Her repulsive personality made it almost impossible to act in love with her for the camera. Despite all this he still tried to act kind and gracious to her. His dad had always taught him to be kind to any woman, no matter his negative feelings towards them.
"Good morning Glimmer." He gave her a bright smile.
"Good morning Peeta." Her smile matched if not surpassed his.
One of the cons that came from being polite to Glimmer was that it seemed that she had grown fond of Peeta. He had never really minded so much because she was never too forward with her advances and he didn't plan on pursuing anything with her, but that was before Katniss. He knew she wouldn't be happy with an admittedly beautiful girl hanging on his arm, so he had to tread carefully when it came to Glimmer. He didn't want to do or say anything that could spur her on.
"We'll be arriving at our destination in thirty minutes." Effie said.
Despite it being six a.m., Effie was still dressed to the nines, but then they all were. She was wearing a navy blue dressed and had a long black coat to go with it. It was more of a muted look compared to what she normally wore but Peeta chose not to say anything.
It took 45 minutes instead of 30 much to Effie's chagrin. Effie was nothing if not punctual and the moment we had taken 31minutes and were no wear near our building, she was practically fuming. At least in an Effie way: still and silently. She had asked the driver if there were any alternate routes that could get them there faster, but he shook his head.
Despite it being so early, the rain had caused the roads to back up and they were forced to sit back and drive it out. They weren't even trying to get to anywhere formal. It was just a breakfast for all the cast and their managers and publicists, the directors and the crew. They had it every day and it was really just to give them a sense of community, which it did. Other than Glimmer, Peeta enjoyed all his other coworkers. There was Chaff who played Electro.
He was a bit of a character and reminded Peeta so much of Haymitch, only without the excessive drinking. He was still a pretty heavy drinker but refrained from doing it so much that he wouldn't be taken seriously in the business. He was also really intimidating. I mean who else wouldn't be intimidated by a six foot five black man but the moment he started talking about his wife, Seeder, and two kids and Peeta saw the way his eyes lit up just thinking about Peeta knew that there was nothing to be nervous about when it came to Chaff.
There was also Marvel, who Peeta had to admit wasn't the first person to pick to strike up a conversation with, especially after he found out that Cato Roberts was his best friend, but he soon realised that Marvel was greatly different than Cato. For one he wasn't an absolute prick and you could tell he actually worked hard to be successful in this business. He always took the feedback the director gave him and always improved himself, which kind of impressed everyone. Everyone, including Peeta, had pecked him for an arrogant meathead.
An hour and a half later, breakfast was finished and everyone departed to their respective locations. Peeta had to head off to The London Studios to do an interview with Graham Norton and two other celebrities and then meet with Glimmer, Marvel, and Chaff to do another interview with a local interviewer in order to promote the movie.
Five hours later, Peeta was done with everything and he had the rest of the afternoon to chill out. He felt the sudden urge to explore the city, so he did just that.
Cinna had given him a suit ensemble for his interviews so he took that off and changed back into what he was wearing earlier in the morning and paired it with his trusty baseball cap (without the sunglasses because although it had stopped raining it was still cloudy).
He had walked around a bit, entering different stores, absentmindedly looking for something to get Katniss. He was planning on getting her something from every country he went to. So far he had gotten Ireland and Wales down and he wasn't too worried about England considering it was where she grew up.
There weren't that many people on the street aside from the occasional group of workers on their work break so he was left to roam the streets without anyone stopping him.
He'd been walking around for an hour before deciding it was time to take a lunch break. He saw a little café called Climpson and Sons and decided to give it a try. The first thing he was greeted to was the smell of freshly made bread. This got him excited. He loved trying other baked goods. In a way he was sizing up the competition, even though he didn't work at the bakery anymore, and he was also making mental improvements to his recipe.
He ordered a tea with milk and no sugar and a turkey cranberry sandwich. As he bit into his sandwich, Peeta's eyes widened. He'd had his fair share of fancy but this ordinary sandwich blew it all out of the water.
Peeta was eating and browsing the messages Effie had sent to him when he heard a group of about five school girls wearing green and grey kilts and white shirts, some with cardigans overtop and some without. Peeta tilted his hat a bit lower and sunk a bit more into his seat. He was in full view of these girls and didn't want them swarming him. As much as he loved his fans, he also loved his quiet time.
They more or less ignored him until one of them started throwing curious glances in his direction. When she caught my eye, he gave her a friendly smile before going back to my phone. Something about her seemed vaguely familiar but he chose not to dwell on it.
Ten minutes later Peeta sensed someone slide into the seat across from me. He looked up cautiously and it was the same girl that was looking at him. She looked to be about sixteen or seventeen with blonde hair and blue eyes. If he didn't know any better he would say she was his long lost sister.
The girl continued to look at him like she was trying to decipher something. He glanced back at the table she was sitting at and noticed the group of girls were gone.
After minutes of this, she finally spoke. "Peeta Mellark?"
"Yes?" He didn't mean for it to come out as a question, but there was something about this girl that just slightly intimidated him. It reminded him of how he felt around Katniss.
She looked at him hard before breaking out into a huge grin and outstretched her arm. "I'm Primrose Everdeen."
The look of shock on Peeta's face was almost comical. Of course, he thought. No wonder she had looked so familiar. He realised her hand was still stretched out and quickly shook it.
"You know you look a lot different in person than on TV. Katniss always talked about how blue your eyes were but I never really saw it on TV or magazines."
Peeta continued to sit there in shock. Was he really meeting Primrose Everdeen? The Primrose Everdeen. Peeta saw the irony of how he was the one freaking out over her when he was the celebrity in this situation. It was just so surreal for him to see her here. He had thought of meeting one of her family members but he knew it wasn't likely and he was glad because he wanted to be with Katniss when he met her family. He could have been anywhere else today and missed her. Heck, she could have been anywhere else, like school or something.
Wait, school.
Peeta was fairly certain it was a school day and if the uniform wasn't a dead giveaway he wasn't sure what was.
"Shouldn't you be in school?" He asked suspiciously. It probably wasn't the best first thing to say to your girlfriend's sister but he couldn't help it.
She glanced back at her uniform then back at him. "Oh, no! I'm not skiving of school if that's what you're thinking. I'm done classes for the day so me and some of my mates wanted to come here so we hopped on the nearest tube."
Peeta nodded. He could accept that explanation.
"This is kinda weird. Seeing you here. I mean I knew you were coming because of Katniss and I wondered for a brief moment if I would get to see you but it wasn't really likely was it?"
Prim's smile was radiant and it was easy or Peeta to see why Katniss loved her so much. He'd only known her for about ten minutes and he already thought she was adorable.
"Do you want something to eat or drink?" He asked her. His sandwich was long gone so he was just drinking his tea but he still felt bad having something while she didn't.
She thought about it for a moment before nodding. "Maybe some milk and cookies."
He got up to get some and came back with a glass of milk and a plate of cookies for them to share.
"Thank you." She said while grabbing one. "So, how's your day been so far? Have you had a chance to sight see?"
"It's been good, although a bit tiring and I was considering sightseeing since I have a bit of time on my hands."
"I can show you around if you don't mind."
Peeta gave her a warm smile. "Not at all."
Peeta moved to get up but Prim stopped him. "Wait, let's call Katniss." As she said this, this look of pure mirth and innocence appeared in her eyes, making it impossible for Peeta to deny her. He was starting to understand why Katniss loved her so much. He couldn't imagine anyone having negative feelings towards the girl.
He dialed her number and noticed Prim trying to contain her giggles.
It took Katniss a while to pick up but when she did, she answered with a groggy, "Hello?"
Peeta couldn't help but laugh at this. "Hey," he replied, "I think I'm in the middle of having lunch with Prim."
Her end of the line was silent for a bit, as if trying to judge whether he was joking or not. Prim realised this and yelled, "Hello!" into the phone.
"Prim? Was that you?" Katniss was so confused in her tired haze.
Prim giggled and said, "Yes Katniss, it's me."
"Why are you with Peeta? Shouldn't you be in school?"
Prim proceeded to explain everything to Katniss, successfully easing her concerns.
"Prim was actually going to take me sightseeing." Peeta said to Katniss.
"Sounds fun. You seem to have a lot of downtime."
"Yeah," Peeta said, "today at least, but tomorrow's going to be a whirlwind with the premier and all."
Katniss could practically see the smile on his face as he said this. "But you love it."
"Yeah I do."
There was a small pause and finally Katniss filled the silence. "Well, I'll leave you guys to it. Prim, try not to grill Peeta too much okay?"
Peeta had almost forgotten Prim was with them. Every time he talked to Katniss, it was like the rest of the world melted away.
"And don't forget our Skype date, Mellark."
"Katniss?"
"Yeah?"
"I love you."
She let out an un-Katniss like giggle and sighed in content. "I love you too, Peeta."
They hung up and Peeta turned to Prim to ask her if she was ready to go but was stopped by the look she was giving him.
"What?" He asked her.
"You've changed her. Before she met you she was just trying to survive and keep her head above the water. She always tried to put up a brave front for me but I'm her sister and sometimes I know her better than she knows herself. She never really took the time to enjoy her life, mostly because she thought there was nothing about it worth enjoying and then you came along. It was the first time I heard her so happy and hopeful about something. You became the thing that was worth enjoying in her life."
Peeta was at a loss for words. He knew Katniss wouldn't appreciate Prim telling him this but he was glad he heard it. Pee managed a choked thank you and wrapped his around Prim.
"We should start going before it gets too late." He said once they pulled away.
Prim's tour was great. As he spent more time with her he started to see the similarities between her and Katniss and more importantly, the differences. He saw how much easier it was for Prim to keep conversations going and how she was always smiling.
He wanted to spend more time with her but she had to get home and he had to meet Effie and Haymitch back at the hotel.
Spending the day with Prim, even being in this country, made Peeta feel so much closer to Katniss when she was miles away.
Their stay here somehow managed to fall on London Fashion Week and while Peeta couldn't really care less, Effie was beside herself. She was forcing him to go to one of the parties being held and Peeta couldn't say no. Not after the look of excitement Effie gave him.
He would much rather be sitting in his hotel waiting for his and Katniss's Skype date than pretending to have fun with a bunch of self centered models and actors.
He rode there with Marvel and Glimmer. It mainly consisted of Marvel unsuccessfully trying to flirt with Glimmer and Glimmer not giving him the time of day. Soon enough he realised he wasn't getting anywhere with her and offered everyone pre party shots.
Peeta declined the first time but then after deliberating, decided a couple shots couldn't hurt.
Apparently they could because as we entered the party he was already more than a bit buzzed and was open to more drinks.
The rest of the night was a blur of dancing, music, and more drinking, and before he knew it, Peeta was in his hotel room, throwing up his guts while Katniss listened through the computer screen.
When he got to his room, the first thing he did in his drunken haze was Skype Katniss. She was more than a bit upset to see him so drunk and didn't hold back on voicing her anger.
"You stood me up Peeta. I left a spa day early just for you only to wait two hours for your stupid Skype call."
Peeta flushed the toilet and rinsed his mouth before entering the bedroom. "I don't know how many times you want me to say I'm sorry. It was just one stupid call. You don't have to make me feel like a complete asshole when we've already talked two other times today. I was just out having fun."
He wished he could take it back the moment he said it and the feeling amplified when he saw the crushed look on her face.
"I'm sorry if you feel like I'm holding you down in some way, Peeta. I'll just let you go to sleep. You can call me in the morning if you want. Goodnight Peeta."
"Wait Katniss-" But it was too late. She had already hung up. Peeta felt like calling her but he knew there was nothing he could say at the moment that could fix anything. It would probably be best for him to sober up before talking to her again.
Katniss was hurt by his words. She knew she shouldn't really take it to heart because he was drunk, but she couldn't help it. The last thing she wanted was to tie Peeta down and have him resent her for it. He was part of this world that she would never truly belong in and she was terrified of the day he decided he wanted someone who was used to his lifestyle.
Knowing that she would spend the rest of the day dwelling on it and whether he would call her when he woke up, she crashed on his couch and drifted off to sleep.
So that's that. I hope you enjoyed it and there weren't too many errors.
Please review. They give really motivate me to write and I also just want to know if you actually liked this chapter or if it was just meh.
