These kids were good, Misa thought as she observed a group of children posing, they were trained by someone great, to be the best and they weren't going to take a loss lying down.

And as she watched a girl spin on her heel and execute a perfect hair flip and a boy give the most charming grin she had ever seen, the young blonde could admit that she was impressed. These snot nosed little brats meant business and had the opinions of hired professionals, and not the mirror that hung in their bathrooms.

Unlike her, she noted casually as she twirled a piece of her hair around a dainty finger.

Misa didn't have much training other than what she knew, thought, and had been told looked good. She could also act, very well might she add, but would acting equate to modeling?

She didn't exactly know but as she heard her name being called, she decided now was as good as any time to find out.

Pulling her easy confidence around her like a cape, the young blonde stood and fiddled with the shirt she had been given in dress rehearsal.

It was a white dress, ruffled, and long sleeved with a soft pink ribbon knotted in a bow around her neck like a tie would be. She wore like colored shorts underneath and knee high socks that matched the color of the bow, and babydoll shoes.

Misa looked cute, as always.

Following behind a fashionably dressed woman, the young girl resisted the urge to frown as she was led into a room with a table. Eyes instantly jumping over to the red haired woman seated at the head, Misa smiled and waved.

"Hello, Evans-san!" She chirped as she was led deeper into the room. "It's nice to see you again!"

Her words earned her a smile and for a second Misa internally faltered because it was not a smile that was given when indulging children or one given when someone does something particularly cute. It was a smile that someone - particularly an adult - would give when they knew something someone - particularly a child - thought they didn't.

And now Misa was suspicious.

Herded into her seat, she kept her expression of delight up and was absolutely prepared to weasel her way through this when Mrs. Lily Evans threw a wrench into her plan with four simple words.

"You're a child genius."

For a second the young girl's smile froze and she blinked.

"Misa's smart yeah!" Misa thrilled, her mind thinking fast to counteract this situation. "But that doesn't make her a genius."

The red haired woman hummed before she leaned back in her chair and cocked her head to the side.

"No it doesn't," She conceded before she flashed a prim and proper smile and despite it being devoid of teeth, Misa thought the American woman looked like a shark. "but the scores from the official test you took sure do."

Abruptly Misa lost her smile and crossed her arms over her chest, it appears her parents had gone on an innocent bragging spree and let something leak. She had just recently taken that test too.

"So what did you want?" The young blonde girl asked as she narrowed her eyes. "A test doesn't make me a genius, smart for my age sure. But I'm no Light Yagami."

"Who?"

She waved her hand through the air.

"It's just some super smart kid I heard of." She answered bluntly. "Now that's a child genius."

Lily shrugged.

"Maybe you don't think you qualify as one but the world certainly does."

Leaning forward the red head gave Misa another shark like smile.

"And honestly, if you're intelligent enough to build a persona to lure people in at this age, I can't wait to see what you'll do once you've been in the business long enough." The older woman practically purred as she pulled a card out of her pocket. "Which is why I wanted to skip past the BS technicalities of an audition and offer you my services as an agent right away."

This time Misa was given a smile with teeth and suddenly she was reminded of a wolf.

"Wouldn't want you to get snapped up by anyone else now would we?"

Taking a moment Misa met her green eyes before she gave a slow grin in return.

"No," Misa drawled as she reached out and took the offered slip of paper. "I suppose not."

Their eyes flashed as they connected and Misa felt a shiver go up her spine.

"Welcome to the business world Amane-san." Lily said. "I look forward to working with you."

Naturally the two people to know of her success were her parents, and the first thing that was done was to schedule a date for the contract to be assembled and looked over.

The second thing that was done was a celebratory dinner in which her favorite foods were cooked, and it was there in the middle of eating her dessert that Misa realized that yes, success suited her nicely.

Very nicely.

Lazing around the house with nothing more to do than wait, Misa decided to go out and explore the beach front. She lived near a bay almost all of her new life and had never been to see the water.

Rolling off the couch Misa went in search of her mother when she remembered that the woman was going to a yoga retreat that day and she reversed her path until she was heading down the hallways and up the stairs.

Entering her parents room, she spied the blond hair of her father peeking out from underneath the covers. Stealing closer she reached out a hand and shoved lightly at his shoulder.

"Tou-san," She called as the sleeping man who was sprawled out on his bed, stirred under her touch. "Can I go to the beach? I'll be careful."

Grumbling out what Misa instantly computed to a 'yes' despite the fact that it might not, she smiled and went to slip on some more sand appropriate clothes.

Exiting the house in a pair of green shorts, a camisole, and flip flops - which she would kick off to go pursue the coast line - she ventured down her back steps and over the sand to the cresting waves.

Watching the water leap and dance she moved along with it, laughing and shrieking when the coldness licked at her heels. Running through the sand attempting moves learned from her sensei and failing, Misa took her time being the child she was pretending to be.

This was a time where she didn't have to constantly analyze actions and events to ensure the people close to her remained safe and she would enjoy it.

Spending a few hours exhausting herself with many clandestine activities, she fell back into the sand and began to hum.

Distantly she realized what song she was reenacting and with an inelegant snort rolled her eyes.

"What a depressing song to kill yourself to." Misa said as she carded her fingers through the fine grains below her.

"I mean really 'Be careful what you do, cause God is watching your every move?" She mock sung with a scoff. "I'm pretty sure the Lord has better things to do than watch me sin."

"And besides once I knew everything that someone taught me, I'd find a new teacher." Misa snarked, still thinking back on the lyrics as she stared up at the sky. "I wouldn't kill myself, like my other self had. That's just stupid and wasteful, no man is worth my life."

Left grumbling and irritated due to where that damn song led her thoughts, Misa rolled over and gouged her fingers through the sand.

Smirking at the sight of something that resembled claw marks deep in the ground, the young blonde dug her nails into the groves.

"In fact my life is worth ten of his," She said as she narrowed her eyes. "If anyone was going to die for anyone, it's gonna be him for me."

Striking quickly, she tightened her grip on the sand beneath her palm and yanked it up until she could see water pooling inside the hole she had dug with her hand.

Imagining it to be blood welling out of Kira's eviscerated throat, Misa gave a satisfied nod.

"Even if I have to kill him myself."

There was a small silence after her words before a contemplative hum sounded and Misa froze because it wasn't coming from her.

"It's really strange." Someone said from behind her and Misa resisted the urge to jump in fear. "I haven't really heard of a human as young as you, talk about death so easily."

Pushing herself up and onto her knees, Misa turned and prepared herself to run when she was suddenly faced with something not human.

He was a small, doll-like thing who looked like he was poorly sewn together from mismatched fabric. He had only one eye, despite having two eye sockets and that sole gaze was staring straight at her.

"Hello, I am called Gelus," He introduced with with slight smile. "And what's your name, strange human?"

Edit: 7/21/16

I love Gelus. So much and just because he's so cute I'm not gonna kill him. That's right, Gelus lives.

This chapter was a bit harder to rewrite but I hope it's good enough. Please review. Also who do you guys want Misa to end up with? L or Light?
