Time Between Us Ch. 9

"NO!" I screamed again, but it was too late. That monster already pulled the trigger, killing my mother. I helplessly watched as her head fell down to her chest, blood seeping out of the gaping gunshot wound in her head. I didn't know whether I would cry or vomit. Maybe both.

"You'll get a taste of what everyone on this planet will. I wanted you to suffer first, to feel such an unbearable pain. That no matter what you did, you couldn't save them. You'll burn just like the rest will." The machine threatened as it looked at me with his cold and lifeless eyes. It pressed the side of the gun, that was stained with my parents blood on it, against my cheek. I flinched away from it disgust and terror, and shivered in fear of what was about to happen.

'I'm so sorry, Jane. Please forgive me.' I thought to myself, even though Jane couldn't hear. This is my final moment in life, and I wanted to use it to apologize. I should've listened to her. She was right. And I failed her. I failed all of humanity.

I opened my eyes again when nothing happened, and saw Dennis had left the room. He emerged from the kitchen a moment later, with a beaten and bleeding Jane tied up. I felt my eyes widen and jaw drop at the sight as Jane was tossed to the floor like a rag doll. She was gagged, but I could still hear her muffled grunt of pain as she hit the hardened wood with a loud thud.

I looked into her eyes and saw fear as well, and I don't like to guess, but I had a feeling it wasn't about her own safety and well being.

"It's over." Dennis coldly stated with his robotic voice, and pressed the bloody and still smoking gun to the back of Jane's head.

No. Not her. Please... Take me instead. Just please don't hurt her.

None of these pleas made it out of my mouth, for I was too terrified to speak. It was when I saw Dennis slowly pull back on the trigger, did I finally get a hold of my senses.

"No! Stop this!"

But the terminator didn't listen to me. It squeezed the trigger all the way back, letting the gun fire its deadly bullet into Jane's skull.

I watched in shock and horror as blood pooled around her. Jane's eyes were still open and staring at me, except the beauty in them that I had come to know and even love, had vanished.

She was gone.

I didn't notice Dennis approaching me, too distraught over the loss of my parents and a woman I deeply cared for. When I felt cold steel being pressed against my forehead, I looked up and saw those same lifeless eyes staring at me. A glimmer of red flashed inside of them.

"You've been terminated." He told me in the same emotionless tone, and pulled back on the trigger for the fourth time in minutes.

"No!" Maura yelled loudly as she woke from her nightmare that seemed all too real. She shot right up in bed, drenched in sweat and her heart pounding.

Jane, who was at the window keeping watch through the blinds when she heard Maura's screams, rushed over to the bed and immediately pulled her into an embrace. Neither cared about their feelings at the moment. Maura needed comfort, and Jane was more than willing to give that to her.

"Are you ok?" She asked a minute later when the crying had subsided. Part of her felt is was a stupid question knowing the obvious answer would be no, but she wanted to ask anyway.

"No." Maura sniffled into Jane's chest. "Dennis... He... He won't stop, will he?"

"No." Jane replied, but was quick to assure the crying woman in her arms. "But I'll stop him before anything happens to you, I swear."

Maura leant into the soldier's body, seeking more contact and comfort, and Jane tightened her grip as she used one hand to rub Maura's arm in a calming and soothing manner. When Jane didn't hear any more cries, she was relieved to know that the touch had worked. At least enough for now.

"There's going to be 20 more years of this..." Maura suddenly said a moment later. "More of them. More death."

"I know... I have a hard time thinking about it, too." She heard Jane admit, and felt a warm hand softly touch her chin, and her head was lifted up so she could make eye contact with her. Maura felt even more relief seeing Jane's vibrant brown eyes, grateful to be able to see them again. "But I told you, we will win this. The war ends. People will start rebuilding civilization again."

"But so many people... Children and babies. So many will die, and there's nothing we can do to save any of them."

Jane wiped away Maura's few tears with both thumbs. "And you'll be the reason the Resistance can avenge them. I know it's not much now, but maybe you can take small comfort in knowing it won't last forever."

"Maybe someday, but not today."

Jane gave her a sad and understanding smile. "And that's ok."

"Look at me... Some legend, huh? I'm shaking." Maura held up a trembling hand for Jane to see. "You must be pretty disappointed."

"No, I'm not. You're everything I've heard about and more."

"I'm just some college student. I'm not a fighter or a hero..."

"Hey... Yes you are. You may not be tough physically, yet, but you are so strong in other ways. Your life has been turned upside down and yet here you are, still fighting. After all you've gone through in such a short amount of time. You're the strongest person I've ever met, Maura."

"You really think so?"

"Absolutely."

"Thank you... And thanks for comforting me. I know after what happened tonight things might be a little awkward between us."

"What happened tonight was amazing and I'll never forget it... But you do understand why we can't ever go any further than that, right?"

Maura nodded solemnly. "Yes, I do. I just wish it weren't the case... Could you just do one thing for me though?"

"Of course."

"Just hold me until I fall asleep again. I feel so safe in your arms."

"You got it." Jane said with a big smile, and wrapped her arms around Maura again as they laid back down on the soft bed.

Dennis was still only a mile away from the motel when he reported back to dispatch.

"This is Jenkins, I'm at the motel where the Isles girl was supposedly sighted. It was a false ID, the guy must've made a mistake. Just a couple of kids on vacation." He cleverly lied, not wanting any more cops to come to his target's location.

"Roger that..." The female dispatcher responded. "Come back to the station as soon as possible, something big just happened and we're gonna need you."

"Copy that. Heading back now." But he wasn't. Dennis simply pressed the gas pedal down to the floor, and continued his fast pursuit to complete his mission. He wasn't about to let her get away so easily this time.

Within minutes, the motel soon came into view. The machine got out of the cop car and walked into the office, where the manager was sitting, quietly reading a newspaper.

"Excuse me, sir?" Dennis said with an oddly polite but urgent tone. "I'm looking for a couple of young women that are staying here. Both around 20 years old, a blonde and brunette. They should've checked in a few hours ago."

"Is there a problem, officer?"

"Oh no, not at all. I just need to ask them a few questions about something. They may have witnessed a crime, so I'd like their help if I can get it."

"There's not many people staying here tonight, so I know exactly who you're talking about. They're on the second floor, room 205. It's the second to the last room closest to the parking lot."

"Thank you very much. You have a good night."

"You too."

With that, the murdering cyborg left the office and headed up a case of stairs. Though it was starting to get dark, he could clearly see room 205 several yards away.

The two of them had just drifted off to sleep, when the sound of a dog barking loudly woke them. Jane shot right out of bed and carefully peered through the blinds, and saw a German Shepard on a leash, lunging towards a cop. After she squinted her eyes and the dark figure was a little closer, the time traveler saw his face.

"Shit... Maura, get up! Now!"

"Jane, what's wrong?!"

"He found us... I don't know how, but he did. We need to move it."

Jane grabbed the duffel bag full of explosives and slung it over her shoulder, while Maura scrambled throwing pillows under the blanket as fast as she could. They both ran to the back door that led to their private balcony and looked down.

"We have to jump."

"Are you crazy? We're on the second floor." Maura sputtered in disbelief. "We'll be severely injured."

"We'll be a lot worse off than that if we don't... Look. Right there, you see it?" Jane pointed to a brick wall down below. "That wall is at least five feet high, and just wide enough for us to land on. It might hurt a little but we don't have a choice... You go first, I'll help lower you down."

Maura quickly climbed over the short railing, holding Jane's hand. The stronger of the pair held her arms so tightly that Maura was sure have bruises. The thought was the furthest thing on either of their minds.

The smaller woman just barely felt her toes touch the top of the wall, and signaled for Jane to let go. Just as Jane herself was ready to make the jump, the front door of their room was kicked in. Dennis fired his gun in every direction, and then walked over to the lumps on the bed. When he pulled back the blankets, he discovered it was only pillows to make it look as if a body were there.

Jane knew she didn't have the time to go down as slowly as Maura did, so she jumped down and landed on the wall, but her ankle gave way and cracked.

"Fuck!" She hissed in a great deal of pain, but hopped off the wall and pushed Maura along. "We don't have time to get another car right now. We gotta get to ours and drive the hell out of here."

"You're hurt..." Maura noticed as Jane limped alongside her, though they were moving as fast as possible.

"I'm fine. It's probably just a sprain. Keep moving, we're almost there." Jane pulled out the keys from her pocket and unlocked the car. The second they got inside, Jane turned the ignition on and put it in drive.

As they started out of the lot, a bullet went through the back of the car and out of the windshield, just barely missing their heads. Maura screamed as the shattered glass flew everywhere, instinctively covering her face to protect herself.

"Stay low and keep your head down." Jane instructed as she cut the wheel to make a sharp turn. The car's tires burned rubber as it was brought back onto the main road, leaving a large cloud of smoke in its wake.

Dennis jumped from the second floor right after he fired the shot, and immediately hopped inside of the cop car. He flicked on the sirens so others would get out of his way, making it much easier to get Maura.

It didn't take him long to catch up, he could see the stolen vehicle swerving between others to gain distance, but they weren't able to maneuver through all of the traffic. It unfortunately made it easy for Dennis to get close enough to rear end them.

"Oh my god..." Maura cried as she was lying as low as she could in the front seat. She looked at Jane, who was in fierce concentration. Her expert driving was evenly matched with the efficient killing machine.

"Stay calm, Maura. I'll get us out of this..." Jane promised. "Hand me a pipe bomb."

"Where are-" Maura was about to ask, but was cut off when another round of shots was fired at them. One of the bullets hit the dashboard, causing the airbag to deploy but it doesn't hurt either of them. Jane pushed the now deflated bag out of the way so she could see better. "Where are they?"

"Backseat, in the duffel bag. You can reach it without having to move too far."

Maura did as requested and carefully reached an arm out into the backseat, without moving her head or body in view of Dennis. Her fingertips touch nylon, and after stretching her arm as far as she could, Maura pulled one of the bombs out of the bag.

She quickly handed it to Jane, who had a lighter ready in her hand. She lit the fuse and said "Here, take the wheel."

It was difficult keeping her head down, but Maura did her best to see the road ahead to drive. What happened next scared her more than anything.

Jane leant out of the window, her head and torso were fully exposed and without protection. The soldier waited two seconds for the fuse to go down a little more, and threw the bomb towards the cruiser that was at least 10 yards behind. The force from hitting their car caused him to fall behind slightly, but still kept up his speedy pursuit.

With expert precision, Jane threw the explosive pipe and it landed on the hood of the car, rolling back and settling between the windshield wipers.

Once everyone started hearing and seeing the flashing blue and red lights, all traffic had pulled back and were luckily out of the blast range.

Jane climbed back into the car to take back control of driving, and swerved so fast Maura almost got light headed. The soldier saw an exit and took it. Dennis was going so fast and didn't see the move coming, and slammed head on into a barrier.

As he looked up, the fuse of the pipe bomb went out and exploded.

They drove for almost a half an hour before finally stopping behind an old factory that appeared to be abandoned, Jane making absolute sure that no one was around or had followed them. Both of them heard the explosion, but weren't sure if Dennis had survived or not.

"Are you ok?" Jane asked, overlooking Maura's body for signs of injury for the fifth time.

"I'm alright... What about you?"

"I'm fine. Here, let me check your hair... There could be glass in it." Jane motioned for Maura to lean towards her, and began sifting through the perfect locks of honey blonde hair. After a minute of searching and finding no glass, Jane slipped her hands out, but rested both of them on Maura's cheeks. She looked at her with so much emotion and intensity, and leant in to kiss her.

Maura squeaked in surprise, but soon melted into the kiss. Her mind finally caught up with her and she pressed a hand against Jane's chest to push her away.

"I can't do this knowing it won't ever go anywhere."

"I know, and I'm sorry I told you it was a mistake. I was just scared. The real mistake was not kissing you sooner."

"But what about the future?"

"As far as I'm concerned, the future was changed the moment me and the terminator went back in time. I realize that now, after coming so close to losing you again." Jane said as she was cupping Maura's face, her thumb once again tenderly moving along her jaw like she did a couple of hours ago. "You had this saying in the future... No fate but what we make. I never really understood why you always said that until now. We can still be together, and you can still do all the things you're meant to."

"You really want to be with me?" Maura's hand wandered to the back of Jane's neck, ready to pull her back in for another kiss.

"Always." Jane closed the small distance between them with another kiss. It started off slow and very sensual, but when Jane gripped Maura's thigh, it very quickly grew wildly passionate.

Maura climbed over the center console and into Jane's waiting lap, the kiss not breaking until she pulled the Resistance fighter's tank top over her head. After she discarded it somewhere in the backseat, Maura couldn't help but stare at all of the wounds on Jane's upper body. Many of them were a lot older than a few days. Despite the battle scars, Maura was in awe of Jane's beauty.

"I'm sorry that you've been hurt so many times..." She murmured, running her fingertips along the faded scars.

Jane would've usually felt discomfort at someone seeing or touching her scars, but in this moment all she felt was love.

"My whole life has been combat. You get used to the pain until it becomes irrelevant. You shut it off like a switch."

"You don't feel pain anymore?"

"I do... But I have to ignore it. Like earlier when I hurt my ankle. Your safety was more important than my pain. It's not just about the mission anymore... I care about you."

It was those words that initiated the next intense kiss, and removal of their clothing. Maura took Jane's bra off and whispered "Let me take your pain away."

Jane simply smirked, and pulled back on the lever beside the driver's seat and pushed the seat as far back as it would go.

"That was pretty smooth, Rizzoli." Maura laughed against her lips, now lying completely on top of her.

The brunette popped open the button of Maura's jeans to zip down the fly, and slid her hand inside.

"Jane..." She gasped when Jane's hand made contact with her wet folds, stroking the length of her slit with a single finger. Not wanting to forget about her lover, Maura palmed Jane's breast, feeling her nipple instantly harden underneath, while her other hand easily slipped under the elastic waistband of her sweatpants.

Jane moaned against Maura's mouth, giving the future doctor the perfect chance to slide her tongue in. Two fingers found their way up inside of Jane's warm heat, not needing to be teased since Jane was more than ready every since they started kissing.

It was then that Jane finally entered Maura, almost lost within her own pleasure. She rubbed a thumb against her clit as she slid the other digits inside. With her other hand, Jane grabbed Maura's ass and roughly squeezed it, making her break from the kiss and groan into her neck.

She moved her sloppy kisses along Jane's collarbone, sucking and biting the olive toned skin.

The car rocked side to side as they grind against their hands, the windows already fogging up from their steamy love making.

"Oh god, Maura... Don't ever stop..." Jane begged in long moans. The sweet and satisfying sound was such a turn on for Maura, that was all it took to make her come undone.

"Jane... I'm..." She couldn't get the rest of her words out, but Jane knew what she was going to say. She could feel her orgasm building when Maura's walls tightened around her long fingers.

She writhed against the Italian's body as she came, looking into her eyes the entire time, and increased the speed of her fingers that were already pumping relentlessly in and out of Jane.

With one last buck of her hips, Jane threw her head back as she came, yelling in ecstasy.

"Fuck... Fuck... Maura!"

Maura collapsed on top of her, resting her head in the crook of Jane's neck that had several noticeable hickies. The panting slowed down a full minute later, both of their breathing finally returning to normal.

Maura lifted her head up with all the strength she could manage to look at Jane, and the two grinned like idiots at one another.

"Wow..." Was all Jane was able to say.

"I know..." Maura responded with a chaste kiss. "I've never been with a woman before. I have to say it's better than I imagined, especially since it's with you."

"I've never been with one either..." Jane admitted, surprising her.

"Really? You were amazing."

"So you were you." Jane smiled, then said "As much as I would love to stay like this, we should probably go somewhere else."

"Right." Maura agreed, and started to move off of Jane's lap when she hit the car horn.

"Maura, I'm shocked!" Jane gasped as she unsuccessfully tried to stifle a snicker.

"About what?"

"I thought you were too proper to pass gas in front of someone, especially the girl you just had sex with."

Maura slapped Jane's shoulder, but laughed. "Shut up."

Jane made sure to kiss Maura one last time before she got back into the passenger seat, and put her clothes back on while Maura zipped and buttoned up her jeans.

"I gotta crack a window, it's really hot in here..." Jane turned on the car and lowered the window down, loving the soft breeze that hit her sweaty face.

"Well, we could just keep all of our clothes off." Maura seductively suggested as she ran the palm of her hand along Jane's pant leg, making Jane grip the steering wheel until her knuckles turned white. She just had the best orgasm of her life and couldn't believe after such a short amount of time she was ready to go again. But now wasn't the time.

"Oh you'd like that, wouldn't you? Well, we've got a lot of time in that shelter." She wiggled her eyebrows and added "Just the two of us. And next time, we'll take all of our clothes off."

Maura rolled her eyes but smirked, and then changed the subject. If they kept up that kind of talk, she would be jumping her again and they definitely wouldn't be leaving for quite some time.

"We're going to need another car, aren't we?"

"Yeah. Luckily we have all of our supplies with us when we make the switch."

"Can I do it this time?"

"What?"

"Steal a car."

Jane grinned deviously. "I'm such a bad influence on you."

"Good, I like it." Maura winked.

Woohoo! They finally got together!

I put three lines from the first movie in here, can any of you terminator fans figure out which ones?

Let me know your thoughts and predictions in the reviews! :D
