Ready to find out what a Niji Hime is? So am I! And I have a little announcement to make! It'll be at the end of the chapter.

Disclaimer- I don't own Inuyasha.

Chapter 9- Let's Take a Trip

"I'm a Niji... what?" Kagome asked.

"A Niji Hime." Kenta said.

"Doesn't that mean rainbow princess?" Sota asked.

"Yes and I'm not quiet sure what it all means yet."

"Didn't you say she was the last of her kind?" Inuyasha asked.

Kenta looked at him and nodded. "That's what I was told."

"So does that mean there were other people like her?" Sango asked.

"Am I apart of a species or something?" Kagome asked.

"Who told you all of this?" Nisuki asked.

Kenta was a bit overwhelmed by all of the questions being asked at once.

"Slow down everyone. I think that it does mean that were or are people like Kagome. No I don't think you're a species, at least not in the way you're thinking and I've been talking to people that know about Japanese history."

"Japanese history... hold on I think I might know someone that can help us out." Inuyasha said and stood up to grab his things.

"Where are you going?" Kagome asked.

"I'll be back soon, and I'll call once I figure everything out. Thanks for the food." He left and everyone at the table sat around looking at each other.

"So what now?" Sota asked to break the silence.

"I think you're father has some more explaining to do."

~.~

It had been about two hours since Inuyasha left and her father managed to explain a bit more and nothing at all. He told Kagome's mom about the "business" (which Kagome already knew), that her powers could have come from an ancestor (helpful), and that she was starting to draw attention to herself (absolutely horrible). He had been pretty far from home during those trips and a few of the people in the areas he was staying and passing through were talking about the crazy weather in another part of Japan. And this was bad because it could result in Kagome being found out by the government or worse, the person that was supposedly after her.

"Hey what did you find out?" Miroku asked. He was on the phone.

"Is that Inuyasha?" Sango asked.

He nodded and stood up from the living room couch to find a pen and paper. When he came back he was still talking to Inuyasha on the phone and he sat back down to write down whatever Inuyasha was saying. Kagome wanted to know what was happening and so she didn't hesitate to take the notebook away from Miroku right after they hung up.

"Hold on Kagome give me the book." He tried to take it back but Kagome jumped up and moved back so he couldn't take it from her.

"Who is this?" Kagome asked and tossed the book back to her cousin.

"She's an old friend of Inuyasha's family. He thinks that she knows something about all this and wanted to go over to her place tomorrow to ask her."

"When?" Like hell Kagome was going to wait until tomorrow to figure this out. She was going tonight right after she was sure she could get out without anyone noticing.

"Right after we explain it to your mom and dad and make sure they're okay with us talking to her."

"Why wouldn't they be okay with this?"

"Because there's someone out there out to get you and you've started drawing attention to yourself. We have to be careful."

"He's right Kagome." Sango agreed.

"I see your point. Let's call it a night and figure out what to do tomorrow." As Kagome walked them to the door she thought about the best time leave and get the answers she needed.

"Master Naraku, we have found something you may be interested in." The minion in the red robe said.

"If it's another list of potential girls I hope you're ready for punishment." The man called Naraku said and flexed his fingers.

"No sir! We have reports of strange weather behavior in a city located in Japan!" The minion in the white robe said and handed her master the paper with the information.

He took it and read what it said. Finally! This is what he had been waiting on for eighteen long years. These reports showed the odd way the weather had been acting in the city for several years. It had started on the day the girl would've been a toddler. And that just so happens to be when those creatures start coming into their powers.

"Oh for once you little screw ups did something right!" Naraku stood up from his desk and into the main room.

"Find something?" A woman with short dark green hair, a black tunic that came down to the middle of her thighs, black gloves and a bored expression asked. She didn't even look away from the TV that she had become uninterested in some time ago.

"We have some information about a city in Japan experiencing odd weather behaviors. Can you look into it?" Naraku asked and gave the woman the paper.

"I thought I told you that I couldn't find the girl unless I had a sample of her hair."

"I know you can't find her that way. That's why we're trying it this way."

"Whatever. What do I get in return?" She turned around to face Naraku and cupped his face between her hands.

"What do you want?" He gave her the sexist look she'd ever seen and she could barely stop herself from jumping him then and there.

"You know what I want. It's been a while and I'm starting to miss you." She moved her hands from his face to his chest and kissed his neck.

"Get this done and I'll give you what you want Yura. As many times as you want." He walked away from her and back into his study.

Yura sighed and looked at the paper in her hand. "How the hell am I supposed to do this?"

Kagome left her house around midnight and arrived at the house of Kaede at almost two in the morning. She lived pretty far from home and in a house so secluded she never would've known it was there if she didn't have the address. Kagome was hesitant to knock but the lights were still on so she figured it was worth a try. As she lifted her hand to the door it flew open and a little elderly woman with an eye patch was there starting at her.

"I knew that you wouldn't wait to come here." She stepped aside so that Kagome to come in.

"You knew that I was coming?" Kagome repeated and took a look around the house. It was one story and big enough for one person to live here comfortably. There was a couch and armchair to her right next to a fireplace, a table with four chairs around it, a little kitchen with a fridge, stove and sink. And two doors that she had to assume went to a bedroom and a bathroom.

"Yes, right after my conversation with Inuyasha I knew that you would be here as quickly as you could to see me." Kaede sat down in the armchair by the fireplace and Kagome decided to take a seat on the couch.

"So does that mean you know something?" Kagome asked and put her hands in her lap to keep from shaking.

"It does."

Ugh she was being difficult. "Then could you tell me please? I've been clueless about what has been going on with me for my entire life and I would really like some answers."

Kaede sat there looking at Kagome for a while though it felt like an eternity to Kagome before she spoke again. "Do you know what you are?"

"My father told me that I'm a Niji Hime or something but I don't understand what that is."

"He did? How did he find out?"

"He got this riddle or something from someone after I was born and he's been looking for the person who sent it and any other answers he could find ever since."

"I wouldn't call it a riddle. I wrote it as quickly as I was able to and had to keep it from giving away everything for your safety. I'm very impressed with your father for figuring out that much but there is so much more you need to know."

"You wrote it?"

"I did. Long ago there used to be an entire colony of your kind, the Hime. And with each group there was the Niji Hime who was the strongest and leader of them all. The Hime's job was to keep the peace in different parts of the land for the people. They controlled the climate conditions and nature to keep them in balance. It went on like this for a several years until a man that went by the name of Onigumo came and told all of the Niji Hime to surrender their power to him. Naturally they didn't listen and all of the Hime fought back and it was thought that no one survived. But there was one Niji Hime that barely made it out alive and since then they've been in hiding."

"What did he want with the power?"

"As I'm sure you already know the Niji Hime had the power to not only change the weather, but do more than the other Hime could."

"Like things that have to do with emotions?"

"Yes very good. The Niji Hime had the ability to control the emotional states of people and could also control certain elements as well."

"And what do you have to do with this?"

"I come from a long line of maidens that used to work along side the Niji Hime and her group of Hime. Our job was to aid and protect her since there were other people besides Onigumo that wanted the power of the Niji Hime and it would've been impossible for the Niji Hime to look after not only her group, but herself as well."

"How was it possible to keep doing your job if the Niji Hime went into hiding?"

"It wasn't. My family has been trying to find the Niji Hime ever since she left. Naraku knew about our research and tried forcing us to give up or help him. And when we refused we suffered the same fate of the Hime's in the past. I was the only survivor."

That explains the eye patch. "How does this Niji Hime thing work? Like I know that I wasn't one of the first Niji Hime's so was someone in my family one?"

"Yes that is how it works. The gift will skip three generations and the first female of the fourth will be the Niji Hime."

Wow if Miroku had been born a female he would've been the one dealing with this mess and not her. Kagome was becoming a little overwhelmed with all of this and needed to take a break.

"Do you mind if we continue this later? I think I may be getting a headache." Kagome said and leaned back onto the couch.

"Of course, I'll get you something for the headache and a blanket so you can rest. We can finish this conversation when the others arrive."

~.~

Kagome woke up to the smell of fresh coffee and possibly pancakes, bacon and eggs. She jumped off of the surprisingly comfortable couch to get some since it felt like an eternity since she had last eaten anything, but she regretted it instantly when she saw the angry hanyou sitting in front of her.

"Uh... good morning?" She said.

"Good morning? Good. Freaking. Morning?! Do you know how scared we all were when we couldn't find you in the morning? We thought something happened! What were you thinking?" He said and looked so mad that she knew that if he had the abilities she had his eyes would be a blazing red.

"I would apologize about it but I'm not sorry. I needed to get here as soon as possible and get these answers. I knew that someone would stop me or convince me to stay and wait if I said something so I just left instead."

Inuyasha stood up without a word and pulled Kagome into his arms. "If you ever scare me like that again, I'll be the one you need to be afraid of instead of some mystery person."

Kagome was stunned and they stayed like that for a while until Miroku and Sango walked in.

"Well, well, look at this Sango. I think we walked in on a private moment." Miroku said with a knowing grin on his face.

Kagome groaned and pushed Inuyasha away as quickly as she could. "We weren't doing anything Montai so shut up!"

"What does orange mean?" Sango asked.

"What?"

"Your eyes are orange. What does that mean?" Inuyasha said.

Orange? They've never turned orange? Kagome grabbed the backpack she brought with her and took out her mirror. Her eyes were orange... where was Kaede when she needed her? When Kagome looked at her friends to ask they all had blushes on their face and looked as embarrassed as she felt.

"What's wrong with you guys? What happened?"

"I don't know. I feel like I made a fool of myself or something and like I need to crawl under a rock to hide." Sango said.

"Yeah... I think I feel like you do when I appreciate your luscious body in public." Miroku said. Sango didn't react like she normally did because she was trying to figure out what was wrong with her.

"Where is Kaede?" Kagome knew that this had something to do with her and her orange eyes. They were feeling embarrassed like she was.

"She's outside with your mom and dad." Miroku said and tried to literally shake the weird feeling out of his head.

Kagome took off outside and saw them siting on the porch. She could tell by the looks her parents were giving her that they were grateful that she was fine and that they wanted to chew her out for leaving but there wasn't any time. Her mom noticed the problem first and stood up to look at her eyes.

"Have your eyes always been able to change to orange? Or is it just the hint of another color?"

"They actually turned orange this time and I was hoping Kaede could tell me about it." Kagome turned to Kaede for help and tried to stay calm. "Not only did they turn orange, but everyone in the house that was near me started feeling the same as me. Didn't you say something about the Niji Hime being able to control the emotions of other people?"

"I wanted to explain last night but you were tired and needed to sleep. As I said the Niji Hime had more abilities then the rest of her group. She was able to control the emotional states of humans and also had the ability to control elements as well."

"What's the purpose of being able to control all these things?" Kenta asked.

"All the Hime had different responsibilities. The group dealt with the weather to keep nature in balance and the Niji Hime dealt with the people to keep the peace with nature and also each other."

"Were the Hime like nature fairies or something?" Sango asked coming outside. She looked calmer than before.

"If that's what you would like to call them."

"And now that you've found me, what now?" Kagome asked.

"You found me."

"Come on Kaede your family didn't spend years looking for another Niji Hime for nothing. What do you need with Kagome?" Inuyasha asked and stepped out with Miroku behind him.

Kaede sighed. "Originally my family continued to search for the Niji Hime out of loyalty. But after Onigumo attacked my family I continued to look so that we could get revenge on him together. Once I found finally found her I knew that I couldn't get that small child that had just been born involved in something that happened years ago. So I left with a warning to her parents, hoping that they would keep her safe and here we are today. I never expected that you'd seek me out and I don't expect you to help me after hearing this either."

Everyone was silent after she finished talking and Kagome was confused. Would she be able to help even if she wanted to?

"Forget it. Good thing you changed your mind because there is absolutely no way Kagome is–" Kenta said.

"I'll do it."

All eyes turned to Kagome who only looked at the surprised eyes of Kaede.

"What do I have to do?"

First off let me apologize for being the worst writer in history. I know that it takes forever for me to update but I always come back eventually.

And my announcement:

First off I GRADUATED HIGH SCHOOL! YAY! Being honest I was afraid that I wasn't gonna do it but here I am! And a little side note... I've been pretty unmotivated lately and I don't think that I'm going to stop writing completely but it might just be a little bit of time before an update. So I want to apologize and thank you guys for sticking with me I appreciate it. I love you!
