Title: In The Days Before The End
Summary: It was least stand, the desperate cry of a broken people as we watched our leader dissolve in a flurry of golden particles. This world, our world, is ending, but with the New Year will come a new beginning, a change in the war and hopefully a change in time.

Authors Note: I am so sorry about the late post. Summer break just started and they sent me to a new host family for the duration of it. I didn't have Internet for a a while.
This chapter is a filler that looks into the thoughts of JD's friends.
In The Days Before The End
Chapter Eight - My Interlude
I stared as the body fell to the ground with a sickening thud and barely held back the bile rising in my throat. JD looked perfectly unphased, as if he did this kind of thing every day. Maybe he did, I wouldn't know.
The man that JD had shot stared up at the sky with dead eyes. The wound in the center of his forehead leaking blood and grey matter. I look back to JD and took a step away.
This was not JD. At least not the one I knew. The JD standing in front of me stared with hard eyes at the dead men and asked about fingerprints as of this, killing a man, was totally normal. I felt the hairs on my arms prickle.
"I'm from the future."
Until now his story of war, aliens and time travel have been just that, a story. I had believed him but I had thought about it as something that could happen but wouldn't. Until now.
The car was full of tense, awkward silence on the way back. Neither of us seemed to know what to say.
"JD, you killed that man!"
"He would've killed us."
"But–!"
"That was a blank, killing a blank is the best thing we can do for them."
"You're a doctor!"
That was the part that terrified me, not that there was supposedly a war coming, but that JD had lost the parts of him that made him JD, that the man who shot men alleys in the light of day was all that was left.
I had to tell myself over and over 'It's still JD, it's still JD,' even though, against my will, I found myself mourning the loss of my best friend.
– From the Journal of Christopher Turk, March 3, 2006
I was having a bad day, no not just a bad day; a horrible day. Turk wouldn't meet my eyes for longer than a couple of seconds and Dr. Cox was in an especially bad mood.
"I don't care if you seem to think you know what you're doing! You run it by me before performing any procedures!" Dr. Cox looked precariously close to an aneurysm.
Even after months of this I still wasn't used to being an intern again and had to remind myself to punching face was illegal.
"Dr. Cox-!"
"Zip it Elizabeth! No excuses."
"Yes sir."
"And Newbie. Did I see you come in fifteen minutes late?"
Crap! I had overslept today and been late but I thought I hadn't been seen coming in.
"No?" My denial came out sounding like a question. Dr. Cox looked unconvinced but turned to leave.
"Practice your sutures in the ER today."
This is going to be a long day.
Carla Espinoza was suspicious. Something had been up with JD since January and now Turck was acting weird as well. She hadn't known either of them for very long but she could still tell that something was definitely up.
Turk had come to his shift looking like he hadn't been in sleep and since then he had been very depressed looking. JD had come in late and neither of the men would talk to each other. She could have sworn that she saw Turk take a detour instead of passing JD in the hallway. It was very strange.
She had asked Elliot and even Dr. Cox if they knew anything but the former hadn't noticed and the latter just glared.
Still, she knew they were up to something and swore that she would find out what.
Elliot had told Carla that she had noticed JD and Turk's strange behavior the only part of that was true. She hadn't noticed Turk's but she had noticed JD's.
At first she had dismissed it as just him being strange but after months of JD avoiding her, if she hadn't known better she would have thought that he was scared her, she had to admit that it was extremely odd. Whenever JD did run into her he often looked like he wanted to faint, or run... Or both.
Elliott was pretty sure that he wasn't mad at her, she hadn't done anything that she could think of that would make him act strange but she was also aware that she lacked some social graces so maybe she had.
She pushed her thoughts back of her head and focused on fixing the grumbling patients catheter. Such was the life of an intern.
For the first time in his life Dr. Percival Cox was torn between ringing an intern's neck and giving a compliment to said intern.
He watched from the door as Dr. Dorian (or JD for Sarah or whatever) inserted a ventilator with practice ease. It was hard to believe that this was the same intern that had to have nurses put in IVs for him on his first day. It was very strange. Too strange.
Percival new he was suspicious man and he wondered why the newbie had hit his skills for weeks. That was only thing he can come up with. It seems whenever the intern thought that no one was watching he completed procedures with practiced motions.
The fact that he used techniques that Perry thought he had come up with himself was strange. Actually to say it was strange would be an understatement of epic proportions.
Why would he hide his talents? He was a very good doctor, even Perry had to admit that, JD had no reason to hide them that Perry could think of.
In the room the intern finished his tasks, checked the patient's vitals and turned to leave, his eyes widening in surprise when they rested on Perry. Perry noticed that his had twitched as if to reach for something in his waistband.
Yes, this intern was extremely strange.
Authors Note: Again, I am very sorry about the long wait. Next week probably won't have a chapter because I am going to an AFS camp in Tokyowith other exchange students and will not have access to the Internet I will try to write so that chapter next time will be very long but I make no promises.
Updates might be few and far between for the next month. It's summer break in Japan and that basically means you go to school and study. I have a lot to do so I apologize in advance
I hope you enjoy this chapter! Please comment!
