Hello all! Welcome to chapter 9 of SotN! This is where it gets really intense. Glinda has finally returned from Munchkinland. You will get a glimpse of what has happened there but there won't be much else. This is where shit hits the fan now. I won't say much about it because I just want you to read it and find out for yourself. So read and enjoy!
Chapter 9
Glinda gives a big yawn as she wearily walks down the hallway to get to her nice, warm, comfy bed to sleep for the next week. To say she is exhausted is an understatement. Her body aches in places she didn't know she had. The good witch had to actually engage in combat during the hard week she had in Munchkinland. Somebody threw a fire bomb into a riot that had been incited that day. With some quick thinking Glinda used her magic to protect the innocent people but received a nice burn on her neck when she didn't protect herself as well as she should have. The thought of regular people getting caught in the frenzy and potentially getting hurt unleashed the fury inside of her. She broke the promise she made to herself to never use offensive magic on people ever again. If Nessa hadn't stepped in with her own magic and battled her, the good witch would still be lost in her anger. Thank Oz that Nessa snapped her out of it before damage was done.
"Just a few more feet," she whispers to herself. Each step towards her room feels like more lead is poured into her shoes. Maybe once she wakes up from her week-long sleep she will take a nice, long, soothing bath to revitalize her achy body. Relief sets in when the good witch finally reaches her bedroom door. She is so sore and weak that Glinda barely manages to turn the door handle to open the door. She stumbles in but regains her balance with a sharp inhale. If she falls all the way to the ground, she won't be able to get up again. Her eyes just zoom in on the made-up bed that is so tantalizingly close to her. She is almost home free.
"Didn't bother to tell your wife that you would be coming home?"
Blue eyes look to the right and her heart warms up to see Elphaba resting comfortably by a window with a book in her lap. Brown eyes regard her in a cool fashion. In her tiredness, the good witch misses the look she is receiving from the raven-haired beauty.
"I'm sorry. I was so busy," the blonde replies as she starts to walk towards Elphaba to properly greet her. The green woman sets her book on the armrest of the chair she has been sitting on before she stands up. She doesn't react at all when arms wrap around her waist along with a warm kiss being planted on her lips. Her mind is still all mixed up about finding out that Glinda and Nessa had a relationship for nearly six years. That's almost as long as hers and the good witch's relationship, give or take a few years.
'Feelings don't fade away after those many years together,'the voice in her head speaks as if reading what she is thinking. Sensing the frigidness from her wife, Glinda pulls away with a frown on her face. What is going on?
"Elphie, what's wrong?" Glinda questions with her eyes moving back and forth. She can't get a reading on Elphaba's face or eyes when she usually can read her emotions with ease. She has a feeling that she doesn't want to hear what the green woman's response is.
"I know."
The good witch swallows hard at hearing those two words. She doesn't really need to think about what that means. How could Elphaba have found out? This is really not the conversation she wants to have after having a rough week in Munchkinland. Maybe she can play dumb for a little bit longer to stave this off for a while.
"Know what? I don't know what you are talking about," Glinda tries not to stammer to show her wife she is clueless about what Elphaba is trying to imply. Brown eyes darken in intensity and her jawline tightens up in anger.
'She still won't admit it. Then she won't admit she has continued the affair.'
The once brightly shining sun is suddenly covered with ominous dark clouds. Glinda sees this out of the corner of her eyes with a shiver trailing down her spine. This is not good at all. Elphaba is seething.
"Don't play dumb with me!" Elphaba's voice goes steely as she gets closer to her fidgety wife. The blonde gives a shriek when lightning flashes followed by a big boom. Her body is trembling, her breathing heavy. She still has a fear of thunderstorms and the raven-haired beauty managed to conjure one in her anger.
"You and my sister had fucked for nearly six years."
Glinda winces slightly at the harsh language her wife used to describe the relationship the blonde had with Nessa in the past. That's…one way to put it, but she doesn't understand. Glinda just needs to explain all of this.
"It's true. I was with Nessa but you don't understand," Glinda says as she takes a step forward but stops at the fire in the brown eyes and takes a step back as Elphaba takes a step forward.
"Understand? How am I supposed to understand you sleeping with my sister?" the green woman seethes as outside gets darker by the second. The good witch stands tall because she will not be intimidated by her wife. She will stand by what she had done and she won't let Elphaba bully her into feeling otherwise.
"You know why? Because she was there, Elphaba, when you abandoned me and left me broken," the blonde counters but flinches when there is another flash of lightening followed by another clap of thunder. That clearly isn't the answer her wife wanted to hear, but it's the truth. Nessa managed to mend most of her broken heart…but she wasn't Elphaba. Nobody could fill that hole the green woman left in her.
"So that justifies using Nessa? That's my fucking sister," the raven-haired beauty snaps back as her blood pressure goes through the roof. She still can't comprehend this at all. Glinda's eyes narrow slightly because she doesn't understand why her wife is making such a big deal out of this. It's not like Elphaba remained celibate during the years they were separated.
"So? You slept with Fiyero, but you don't see me freaking out about it. Don't get all high and mighty on me. I'm not the only one who slept with somebody we know."
"Fiyero isn't your brother," the green woman hisses through her teeth. Would the good witch look at Fiyero the same way if he actually was her brother? Glinda pinches the bridge of her nose with a frustrated sigh. Now she can add a headache to the list of what is making her body ache. This is just what she needed after working hard to help Nessa with the unrest that happened in her country. She puts her hand down before looking towards the window to see a downpour of rain hitting the window. At least there is no thunder or lightening anymore.
Brown eyes bulge greatly at what Elphaba sees on Glinda's skin. She sees the quarter size burn marring the porcelain skin, but it doesn't have the red tint to show that it's a burn. In her eyes, it has morphed into a brown color with a hint of purple mixed in with it, like somebody was sucking on that area.
'She didn't even bother to cover up that hickey Nessa gave her.'
Something snaps in Elphaba's mind and she suddenly reaches out and grabs the upper arms of her wife in an iron grip. Glinda gasps at the sudden movements before looking up to see a crazed look in the soulful, brown eyes. What the hell is going on? This just seems so out of character for the green woman. Even in her most jealous state the green woman would never harm her in any way.
"What the hell is on your neck?" Elphaba demands as another flash of lightening fills the room. The good witch gives a wince of pain as the grips on her arms get even tighter with the bite of nails digging into her flesh. Confusion fills her mind at such a question. Why is her wife freaking out about a tiny burn on her neck? She still hasn't told her what happened during her time in Munchkinland. When she gets the chance to explain she hopes it will cool the extremely hot-headed, raven-haired witch.
"It's a burn. I got it in a fight. Somebody threw a fire bomb in a crowd."
'Lies! She is trying to cover up her indiscretions.'
Elphaba turns her head to the side with her teeth grinding. She will not stand for anymore secrets or lies from Glinda. Blonde eyebrows twitch slightly at this movement. Something is not sitting right with how her wife is acting. She can't expand on that thought before the green woman pushes her back against the wall.
"Don't lie to me!" she shouts. When she does that, the glass of the window shatters under the magical influence of Elphaba's intense anger. It sends shards flying into the room. Glinda screams in surprise and puts her hands over head to protect herself from the shards of glass shooting into the room from Elphaba's magical outburst. In a sudden period of sanity, the raven-haired beauty lets go of Glinda's arms. With her chest heaving, she looks to her hands before looking up to an equally heavily breathing good witch, who slowly puts her hands down to her sides. Glinda is still trying to comprehend what the hell just happened.
"Glin…"
Elphaba takes a step forward but stops when Glinda puts a hand up to tell her to stop where she is at. The blonde puts her hand down before inhaling deeply through her mouth.
"I think it's best if you leave and sleep in a different room tonight," Glinda says in a quiet voice. She is just overwhelmed with what just happened and she needs to figure this all out without her wife near her. The raven-haired beauty needs to cool down and think about what she did. Elphaba twists her fingers slightly before she just wordlessly leaves the room. She doesn't trust herself to try to plead her way out of it. She walks down the hallway with her mind buzzing but that voice speaks up the second she leaves the room.
'She is cheating on you. Just wait until it spills over. If she is lying about the hickey, she is lying about her love for you. It's all lies. Your love and your marriage are built on lies. She still loves Nessarose.'
With each step, the fury starts to build back up in Elphaba's body and her walk becomes a fast pace, her hands forming into tight fists. She will not be made a fool in the end.
Glinda fights back the tears that want to form. She is filled with such a whirlwind of emotions that she can't figure out which one is which. She also just sent away the person who could make her feel better. Her shoes make a crunching noise as the good witch walks on the broken glass and turns towards the hole, where the window used to be. Her eyes watch the swirling storm wreak its havoc on the city. She hopes that this isn't a sign of the things to come. If so, Glinda doesn't know if she can make it through, if she is going through it alone.
I actually enjoyed writing this chapter a lot cause this is where the drama is and it's only going to continue to get dramatic. This is just the tip of the iceberg of all the drama that is going to happen. Hehe…I can't wait for you to read the next chapter. Until then!
