When Harry awoke, pain engulfed him completely. He had no idea where he was.
"Remus?" he hoarsely croaked.
"Hey buddy. I'm right here. Open your eyes."
Harry did so, and had to blink a few times to get used to the brightness of the room.
"Where am I?"
"You've just come out of surgery, bud. They'll take you back to your room once the Healer checks you over."
Almost as if on cue, a Healer entered, holding a clipboard.
"Mr Potter?" He sat down at Harry's nod. "I'm Healer McAndrews. What do you know about your illness so far?"
"I know that the cancer spread to my lungs and you just did surgery to drain fluid from them."
"Correct. Can you pull up your shirt for me?"
Harry obliged, and to his shock, saw a massive tube sprouting from the bottom left side of his chest.
"That's the tube we used to drain your lungs. See that button? That's going to stay in your chest when we remove the tube. It'll give us an easy access if our lungs start filling again. Now, do you want me to go over treatment plans now or when I do my evening rounds later tonight?"
"I'd like to know now if that's alright?"
"Certainly. Right now, there are two tumours in your lungs, one in each. We're planning on treating them with a combination of Chemotherapy, Immunotherapy and Radiation. You'll have one of each treatment per week for the next six months. Our goal with this treatment is to eliminate the tumours completely, or at least shrink them down so we can surgically remove them. Does that make sense, Harry?"
"Yeah," said Harry, nodding. "Would I be able to go to sleep now? I'm really tired."
"Of course. Any questions? No? All right. Rest up and I'll see you later."
Five minutes later, Harry was in a wheelchair and being wheeled towards his room. He was a little surprised to see that everyone had stayed and waited for him. He was even more surprised to see Ron talking to Linnéa.
"You're such a ladies man, Ron."
"HARRY!"
Harry braced himself as he received hug after hug. After he had been settled into bed and explained everything the doctor had told him, he let himself fall asleep.
"So what is Harry going to do about school?" asked Hermione, ignoring the eye-roll she gained from Ron.
"Well, they need to keep him in hospital over the course of his treatment, so he'll be out for at least six months. I spoke to Dumbledore while Harry was in surgery and he said that he'd be more than happy for you and Ron to floo here every day after classes. As for everyone else that wants to visit him, they'll have to come on weekends. I'll visit Hogwarts once a week to collect Harry's schoolwork and I'll tutor him myself when he feels well enough. Molly, why don't you take the kids home. It's getting late."
"Okay. But you have to promise you'll call me and let me know if anything changes."
So, after Molly and Hermione had kissed Harry's forehead and Ron had patted his hand, they all trooped out and headed home. It was only after the last redhead had left the room that Remus let himself break down into tears.
"I can't lose you too, kid."
Hey guys! Sorry for the short chapter :( don't worry, a nice long one is coming soon xx
