Author's note: *ducks flying food and debris* I know I've taken forever, but give me a break. I work, I go to school, I have a busy schedule *cough*and I'm lazy *cough* Anywho, enjoy!
"Where is Evelyn?" Greta asked, covering her eyes. "Where did she go?"
The baby cooed and slapped the floor with her hands, drool seeping between her smiling lips. When her mother removed her hands, little Evelyn howled with laughter. Greta laughed too and picked her up, kissing her several times all over her face. She held her close and breathed deeply, inhaling her innocent scent, and stroked her soft blonde hair.
"Oh my God!" She cried, clutching the sheets on either side of her. "No, God! No!"
The medical personnel surrounded her, speaking in quiet tones, and the head doctor lowered his head to get a better look. "One more push ought to do it," he told her. "Push."
"Where is Slade?" She panted, raising her head slightly. "I need to talk to him-OW! I need to speak with him now!"
"He's out," the doctor replied curtly. "Push now. Push."
"Please find him," she begged. "I need to speak with him." She pushed once more and could literally feel her body changing. "I want to keep the baby."
The next sound that filled the cold metal room was a series of coughs and gags followed by loud wailing. The doctors moved quickly, and she watched through blurred vision as they carried a bundle away.
"Wait," she said faintly as a nurse stuck her in the arm with a needle. "My baby."
As her eyes began to close, she saw a dark figure looming in the doorway. His single exposed eye glinted and his gaze shifted from the workers to the bundle. "My apprentice."
"Greta?" She snapped out of her daydream and looked up to see Clark holding Evelyn. "Ready to go?"
"Go?" His wife repeated. "Go where?"
Clark laughed a little as he helped her up. "Go eat." He kissed her cheek. "Remember? We're meeting my parents for dinner?"
"Oh, yes." She smiled. "Sounds great." She took the baby from him and tickled her nose. "Doesn't that sound great?"
Raven suppressed a growl as she flipped through another page in the apartment guide. Bo rolled across the bed, taking the comforter with him, whining pathetically. "Waven, put the book down! Waven!"
"Zip it," Raven ordered. "I'll be done in just a minute."
"You said that a long time ago!" Bo argued, sitting up. "Put it down!"
"You do not tell me what to do," Raven informed him, throwing a finger in his face. "Now I mean it, Bo, stop it!"
Bo was silent for a moment, and then he grabbed the magazine out of her hands and began tearing the pages apart. Raven dove for him, but he scrambled off the bed and began throwing shreds of paper everywhere, staring at her the whole time.
"Bo!" She snarled, her eyes glowing white. He floated into the air, surrounded by her powers, and was brought back to the bed, struggling. Raven lowered him down and grabbed him by the arms. "Why did you do that?"
"Lemme go!" Bo ordered, wriggling around in her grasp.
"Why did you do that?" Raven repeated, more demanding this time. The shredded magazine floated over to them. "Look at this-" she took it in her hand. "This is important. This is how we will find somewhere to live. Somewhere safe."
"I want to go to my house!" Bo screamed. "I want to see my fwiends!"
"You can't right now," Raven told him, letting him go. "It's not safe there."
Bo's bottom lip trembled and he burst into tears, throwing himself down and began to thrash around, burying his face in the rumpled blankets. Raven inhaled deeply, and the alarm clock on the night stand began to tremble. They turned around just in time to see it explode. Bo sniffled and quickly held onto her. Raven held onto him as well, and fear filled her heart. Was she actually losing control of her powers? Right now?
"It's scary," Bo sniffed.
"I'm sorry, Baby." Raven kissed his head. "I'm sorry…" she held him tightly. "You hungry?"
The toddler looked up at her. "Yah."
Greta sipped at her tea and half-listened to what her parents and husband were saying. Evelyn babbled to herself, seated contently in her grandmother's lap. The restaurant was nearly empty, only a few families dining, and one particular pair of customers kept catching Greta's gaze. A teenage girl and a toddler. She knew she'd seen them somewhere before, but where?
"Beep beep!" She watched as the toddler shoved a small red car off of the tabletop and it rolled across the floor, touching the toe of her shoe.
"Oh!" she picked it up and smiled. The girl met her at the table, holding the little boy's hand. "I knew I recognized you somewhere," she told them. "This red car just won't leave me alone."
"That's my red car," the little boy smiled.
Greta handed it back to him. "You have to take care of this red car or you'll lose it, Honey." She smiled at Raven. "They're a handful aren't they?"
"An armful is more like it," Raven replied. She looked down at Bo. "Can you tell her thank you?"
"Tink you," Bo replied absent-mindedly, fiddling with the tiny wheels.
Greta smiled at them again and had just started to make her way back to her own table when several screams rang out. She looked up to see a rain of glitter, and it only took her a moment to realize it was falling glass. Part of the opening of the ceiling had been busted. She watched as the teen girl's eyes glowed red and she literally flew backwards, the toddler in her arm. Customers and employees alike panicked and scrambled for the door.
Greta's eyes widened when she saw heavy boots land softly amongst the glass dust. The boots became muscular legs beneath heavy armor, the legs became an even more toned and covered torso, and finally a masked face.
"Greta!" Clark raced over to her and jerked her away from the scene. "Oh my God,! You're bleeding!"
She ignored him and watched pale-faced as the familiar stranger approached the girl and ordered darkly, "Give him to me, Raven."
"What are you going to do? Chase me around the entire universe?" The girl growled back.
"I won't have to," Slade sneered. "You're going to give him to me within the next ten minutes."
"Really?" Raven's eyes glowed.
"Really." Slade snapped his fingers and another explosion sounded, causing fire and debris to shoot from a far corner of the restaurant. More screaming and more ducking.
"Waven!" The toddler held onto the front of Titan's shirt.
The pieces of the puzzle slowly began coming together in Greta's mind and she stared at the little boy. "He's alive," she whispered.
Raven used her powers to raise a table and hurled it at the man. It hit him and he stumbled back a few feet. Greta felt her heart beginning to raise. "He's alive," she breathed quickly and suddenly felt her breathing was too fast. "He's alive, he's alive, he's alive…"
"Greta-" Clark shook her shoulder lightly.
"That little boy is my son," she said, pointing to Bo, tears streaming down her face. "He's alive."
