CHAPTER 9
Hey guys! I just couldn't help ending the last chapter as a major cliff hanger. As I was writing, it ended up being a perfect way to set up this next chapter. As always I hope you enjoy this chapter! Please read & review! :)
**Disclaimer: I don't own Divergent!**
Four's POV
Christina's words play on a loop in my head. It makes perfect sense that Eric is the one who not only created the toxin, but has the antidote as well. "Christina you are a genius!" I yell and grab her into a hug. "Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!"
"Don't thank me yet. We still have to figure out how to get the antidote from him," Christina points out.
"True, but how are we going to do that. We can't just go and ask him for it because he will deny that he's the one that made it and everything,"
"True," She pauses a few moments so we can both think about what we are going to do.
"I've got it!" I say enthusiastically. "Eric thinks I'm mad, angry, and sad. What if I were to go and see him again, but this time I try to make peace with what he did and show him that I have given up hope on helping Tris," Christina gives me a look, completely clueless as to where I'm going with this. "If I show him that I've given up hope on her, he won't think anything of me going and seeing him. When I go and see him, he's still gonna be tied up, so I'm going to bring him some food. I'll grab the bottle from my room and fill it half way with water. After he'd drinks some of it, I'll show him the bottle, making him think we were able to replicate the toxins. Then since he's the only one with the antidote he will have no choice but to use it on himself. When he gets it out, I'll take it from him and go give it to Tris," I finish with a huge smile on my face.
"Four you are a genius!" Christina says with such excitement that I think she might jump up and down.
I laugh while answering, "I know I'm a genius,"
"What are you guys laughing for?" Will says walking over over to us. "Tris is still in the hospital and she's not getting any better. Her time is running out,"
"I know, which is why I have to go and Christina is going to fill you in on what we are going to do," I say before saying goodbye and to wish me luck.
Eric's POV
Four walks into my room with a tray of food because I'm still tied to this stupid chair. I tried to get one of the nurses to come and release me, but they were all given strict orders to ignore me unless it was time for me to eat or I had to use the restroom and even then my hands were tied together and there was someone guarding me outside the door making sure I couldn't leave.
"What do you want Four?" I ask. "I'm not telling you anything, so you might as well turn around and leave me alone,"
"I know you won't tell me anything which is why I came to tell you that you won," Four pauses for a moment and when I don't answer, he continues on. "I had so much hope and faith that Tris would get better, but I can see that isn't going to happen. She was a great part of my life and I will be forever grateful for my time with her. All I ask now is that we try to be friends or at least acquaintances,"
I'm shocked to say the least, so I answer with. "Let me get this straight. You couldn't find an antidote for Tris, so you've given up, and now you want to be friends with me?"
"Yup, that's exactly what I want," Four answers.
"Alright then, sounds good with me. And for the record I'm not sorry,"
"I know, but if we are going to continue working here we have to be civil with one another,"
"True,"
"Glad we got that covered," Four says as he stands up. "I was told on my way in here that it was time for your lunch. Do you mind if I bring your food and eat with you?"
"Sure, why not. Make sure it's actually warm this time," I joke.
"As you wish," Four says.
Four's POV
I walk away from Eric and think it's like taking candy from a baby. He completely believes I've given up. I honestly didn't think he'd agree so fast, but I don't care because it makes my life easier.
"Here you go Eric. Warm just like you requested, and I brought you some water to drink as well since I forgot to ask what you wanted to drink," I say as I enter Eric's room.
"Thanks," He answers before going on about something that I don't care about. I pretend to be interested and engage in the conversation every so often.
Once we are both done eating, I bring the trays back to the kitchen and spot Christina. "How's everything going?" She asks.
"Great actually. I just had lunch with him and I'm about to go back in to see him. Can you go see Tris? I'll be there shortly, if you know what I mean," I say lowering my voice.
"Sure, and good luck," She says giving me a nod before turning to go.
I walk back in to see Eric, and see he's now watching television. I go and sit beside him. "Hey Four?" He asks me.
"Yes?"
"Do you know when they will let me go from here? You've forgiven me, or well tolerate me know. Shouldn't they let me go then,"
"Honestly I'm not sure. When everything went down, they said they were gonna keep you until who knows when. I'll find out for you, but on the mean time I want to show you something,"
"It better be good," Eric jokes.
I smile and pull out the bottle that contained Tris' toxins. Eric's face falters a little confused at what I'm doing. "This bottle was what Tris drank from. I want you to have it,"
"Alright," he says still confused. "Thanks,"
"I want you to have the bottle and the remainder of the liquid because I have to tell you another thing,"
Still not getting where I'm going Eric tells me to continue.
"You see, I went to doctors across all of the Factions, and none of them were able to find an antidote. However, I found one that was able to replicate the liquid. I had actually multiple doctors tell me they could replicate it," Eric's smile starts to fade when I pause. I look him in the eye and continue. "I agreed to have a copy made, in case I would ever need it. Talking with Peter I realized that none of the doctors could find a remedy because some tampered with the original toxin adding something of their own. Being that Peter was working for you, it meant that you would have made the toxins," I put my finger up to stop Eric who is about to interrupt. "I figured that anyone who made a dangerous and unique toxin would of course have an antidote for them self just in case. So, that food and water I gave you contained some of the liquid in the bottle. I sprinkled it on your food and poured some in your water. Eric, in fifteen to twenty minutes you will be unconscious and be like Tris. I suggest you either pull out the remedy or tell me where to find it, because your time is running out," I finish smiling.
"You suck and are crazy! Do you know how dangerous that toxin was?" Eric says fuming.
"Yes I do know how dangerous it is. My girlfriend is still sick because of it. Now tell me where the remedy is this instant!" I demand raising my voice.
Eric gets up and walks the little bit he can while still being tied up. He's extremely pissed at me and I can see the inner mind debate he is having. He doesn't want to help me, but if he doesn't, he will be just like Tris, so he thinks.
"Fine, it's in my room in my nightstand inside a wood compartment if you lift up the fabric," He finally says after what feels like several minutes. "Just so we are clear, this was a very dirty trick you pulled. Thinking I would give you the remedy if I had the same toxin in my body. You know me well. I value my life more than anything. Just know you will pay," He says with pure hate lacing his voice.
"Sure Eric," I say walking away.
Inside his room I find the bottle exactly where he said it would be. Without a second look back, I rush to the medic ignoring everything in my path.
I go and see Eric first. "I want you to drink some of this first, to make sure you aren't lying," I say as I pour some of the liquid into a plastic cup before handing it to him.
"Why would I be lying?! I'm about to go unconscious any moment now!" He yells.
"Because you lied to me more than once, and I will never trust you again. It's that simple,"
"Fine," He says and drinks the whole thing at once.
I have the doctor come in after a half hour to make sure he is 'better' and nothing has changed in his body.
"Medic guards!" I yell. "You will arrest Eric, and make sure he spends the rest of his life behind bars," I say and walk out of the room. Eric is yelling unpleasant things at me, but I could care less. He deserves to be behind bars, but should still be treated with kindness because he is human.
I walk into Tris' room and give Christina a nod. She smiled, and leaves to go have the doctor set up Tris to get the antidote into her body. She then leaves to give me sometime with Tris alone when she wakes up.
I go and sit on the bed beside Tris and wrap an arm around her while being careful. "Tris, I told you a few days back that I love you. I don't know if you heard it then, but I still love you, and I will always love you. When you are up, we are going to spend the rest of our lives together because I'll asks you to marry me in a few years, and we will have kids, and be happy,"
"Yes," I hear. Confused because I'm the only one in the room technically speaking. I look over towards the door to see if anyone is there, but it's empty. "Yes," I hear once more. It's slight more audible than the previous time.
I look down and see Tris' lips moving. "I need a nurse!" I yell.
Some woman comes in and I tell her that Tris spoke a few words and I saw her lips move like she was trying to say more. "That's excellent. She's progressing faster than the doctor originally thought she would. Keep an eye on her and if she makes any movements, talks more, or wakes up call me or another nurse back,"
"Alright thank you," I say before the nurse leaves. I go back and sit beside Tris now that the nurse left.
